Nikon D3200 in 2025 - The best camera for beginners?
Is it still a good camera? YES!
Is it better than the D3100? YES!
20 months after the release of the D3100, this is what the D3100 SHOULD have been. Released in the rise of mirrorless camera, the D3200 stood it's ground because of it's amazing image quality, snappy autofocus and an excellent GUIDE mode that really helps beginners.

+ ISO 100-6400 with a boost to 12,800)

When it was released, the D100 was $5000. Now, you can get one for $50. Although it's a relic in the eyes of modern Mirrorless camera users, it's still a VERY fun camera to use. This was my first camera, which I got as a hand-me-down in 2008 and I learned everything on it. The tiny-ass screen meant I learned to trust my gut on the technicalities like focus and exposure. It was already 4-5 years old when I got it (albeit with light use for a cosmetics company), and I carried it for the next 7 years before finally upgrading to a D7200. It was truly a workhorse of a thing.

    Nice shots on the event. I'm also sporting this lens but with a Nikon D7100. Just as your comments, this lens was tag sharp, nice color renditions, full F/2.8 through the range, and for a good price when it was newly introduced. Good one!

    Hi, I really appreciate this your video about the Nikon D40. Do you know why? Because, at the moment I moved in Sony Systems, but I am still keeping going with this camera for many reasons. If you take professional pictures, of course, this is not enough at the moment considering the Technology and how it is evolved in the last years, but if you are taking pictures for Socials, and you know better than me, the resolution of 6 Megapixels is plenty, so well done, and I will keep my D40, as sister of my at the moment fleet. I have Nikon D5600, Panasonic LUMIX DC-FZ82EB-K, Sony A7III and Sony A 7RII. I am not here to talk about my lenses, but as you can see my D40 is here always to makes her parts. TO be honest I need a properly cleaning tasks, for that. that was my first Digital camera, i will do as soon as possible.

I can recover it using de haze in Rawtherapee and increasing the saturation, but surprised at how flat and bland they appear, not sure if its normal for that camera? The d3000 with the same lense doesn't have the same issue, but I think it's a different sensor?

      Better quality really depends on a lot of factors; such as what lens you are using, what your settings are, how much light you're working with and much more. I would choose the D7000 over the D3300 because the D7000 can utilize the older Nikon screw-type lenses.

    I still use a Nikon D300 and think about adding a D700 to my gear 'staff'. Together with some analogue Nikons both digicams would share the same Nikkor MF lenses from 1969 till 1983. A D700 could reproduce the original image ratio because of FX instead of DX format. But I like the crop factor 1.5x with the D300, too: my Nikkor 55mm enhances its abilities to a 82.5mm telephoto lens;-))

    There are probably sharper lenses out there because if you look at dxo mark the perceived megapixel is about 26 p-mpix on my D810 (that has a 36 mpix sensor). And some sigma lenses go 36 p-mpix (perceived mega pixel). That is all nice in nert theory but in practice this nikkor lens looks really good on my Nikon D810. And I love the color rendition. it is a very nice portrait lens. so the sigma is probably a better lens but i am more than happy with my Nikkor 85mm F1.8G.

    • @BoostLeekdMedia
      @BoostLeekdMedia 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Nice! Thanks for sharing your experiences with the Sigma and Nikon 85 lenses. I do consider selling my Nikon for the Sigma 85 1.4ART sometimes but it's hard to beat the 85mm 1.8G with the price it's at. I have been seeing the 85 F/1.4 ART lens fall in price though!

    • @420sigmapower
      @420sigmapower 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@BoostLeekdMedia I never used the sigma. But the dxo mark does not lie about the numbers, because it is an iso standardized process. The only reason you probably want a sigma or a nikkor "z" 85mm lens is that it can keep up a bit better with the latest higher megapixel cameras of 45+ megapixel sensors. so if you buy a 45+ megapixel camera you better also buy a lens that can actually give you that detail. But for me it is not worth it for me to go down that rabbithole.. I am happy with a D810 and a nikkor lens. there is more to photography than sharpness of the lens. If you mess up your light and composition you still going to end up with a bad photo, no matter how sharp the lens is. I think if i ever upgraded the body I might consider a nikkor "z" lens. But i dont feel the need to do that any time soon, because it is not the sharpness that is the problem. it is my light, creativity and posing skills that need improvement.

    The main flaw of the D40 is not being able to use some of the older screw drive auto focus lenses. So for me as I have several of those I opt for the D70 or D50 which I believe uses the same 6mp ccd sensor as the D40. Couple of the 6mp ccd Nikons and the D700 are the older Nikons i will always keep around

    My wife wants to get into photography as a hobby. What good starter camera would you recommend under $300?

    • @BoostLeekdMedia
      @BoostLeekdMedia 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's hard to say as there are many in that price range but only in the used market. I think an excellent camera to start out with is the Nikon D5000 or the better Nikon D7000. You can find the Nikon D7000 body for under $150 if you look at Adorama, B&H or KEH BUT read the condition the camera is in. If I had a budget of $300, I would buy the Nikon D7000 camera body for $150-$180. Then, I would buy a good all-around lens, like the Tamron 17-50 F/2.8, for $100-$120. I hope this helps!

      @BoostLeekdMedia Thanks for the reply. I was able to pick up a D3300 with tons of accessories for $240. It was listed as an open box in mint condotion. However, it didn't come with a charger. I'll give her some time to see if she likes it, and if so, I'll sell off this one and get her a much better one.

    I LOVE my D700 for the reasons you described. I love the weight of it in my hands and the beautiful portrait pictures I can take with it. Although if I was in a hurry and weight was an issue, I would use my Nikon D40. It's much smaller, lighter and a fun little camera.

      Nice!! Definitely on the same boat as you as well! Very neat to know that I'm not the only one that loves the D40 and D700 combo! Thank you for sharing!

    It is slow and sluggish, not worth the money, you can get a son Sony nex-6 for the same price and it's far better.

      @BoostLeekdMedia 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      100% agreed. Especially if you can find the Nex6 thats in good condition too. I think the only downside with the Nex6 (that I experienced) was the battery life.

    I have this same camera and I'm practicing more Photographs on Nikon D3100 , how can I get a raw and super sharp photos in this camera ?

    • @BoostLeekdMedia
      @BoostLeekdMedia 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can change the image format to RAW. As for super sharp photos, it depends on your settings and what you are photographing. A good lens can definitely improve image quality but the "best lens" just depends on what you are photographing and what your budget is.

    I found a D5100 the other day selling for barely over a hundred dollars! I'm looking to pick it up but I have to work my ass off quick before someone else snatches it. (I'm a student working part time lol)

      Nice! The D40 is an excellent start to really take a dive into photography. While phone camera's are good they're not close to DSLR image quality, especially if you're zooming. Take it day by day because there is a lot to learn. And, don't others persuade you to get a 'new' camera too, because a new camera won't make you a better photographer :)
