FL5 CSF OIL COOLERS AND PRL COOLANT TANK
Some post track day maintenance but I also discuss the general layout of the CSF Dual Oil Cooler system and my initial observations budding track day. We also get the new PRL large capacity coolant tank installed.

What was the verdict? I'm not sure about blocking Air from the radiator especially with the prl intercooler.

Engine was never rebuilt if that’s what you meant. Still all stock. It was only pulled to install an oil pump. 470whp
Who is using an oil catch can for their FL5? If so, which would you recommend?
I have one on mine but difficult to fit it off you have a flex fuel kit installed. I mounted mine to the strut bar. Radium engineering

Anything that uses the oem valve yes
nice, the car looked almost weightless at the top of the first curve of the cork screw. Must been a blast! But looks scary going up the hill and just seeing blue sky for a second.
First couple times I did corkscrew years ago it was very scary. A lot of trust in your brakes and just using trees as a guide for the line
This video popped up in my recommendation. First I switched to the MHi turbo on the FK8 using the same tuner as you and now I also have an A90 and these are the wheels I want. In 19s of course. Not tracking the A90. My fun good weather daily
19s are the way to go! Especially on a daily!

Nice to see someone else has noticed about the trans cooler - been running mine in the UK for around 6 months so far. Only downside that you notice is it takes 5-10mins to get smooth gear engagement due to gearbox oil not getting warm compared to OE setup

Did you just transfer over the OEM TPMS sensors?… I just got some wheels for mine. Was just curious if you use the OEM ones since they have that odd design.
Nope. I just recalibrated 3 times to clear the TPMS warning
Yet the Infiniti and eventuri easily outperformed it? Even GruppeM did better. Definitely not the best, but price wise it's good

They have dual oil coolers too but all those race also delete their AC condenser which is not an option for me on a street car.
Love the dual coolers. Trans cooler not necessary as the oil only lubricates the gears. Trans coolers would only work if you have a clutch type lsd like cusco. Automatic high performance cars like supra and comes with trans oil coolers due to the fact that their clutches get heat up on use.
I agree that the transcooler is overkill for cooling the transmission but that’s not the main purpose in this application. It’s mainly to divorce the oil and water from cooling the transmission and the parasitic heat that drives into the water and oil exasperating the overheating issue in these cars
Interestingly, this is done on the European fk2 type r where the coolant does not cool the trans, as it has a separate oil cooler from factory.

Don't understand why you using water. It boils at 100C. Some cooling fluids boil at 130C and+. Cuting oem trans water to oil cooler is great. Trans air cooler is great setup. In fk2 2015 typer there is trans air cooler to. Dont know why honda change this. Look at TCRs ... do ducting.
Water has a lower boiling point but it sheds heat quicker than coolant and a lot of race clubs will require you to run water instead of coolant because of spillage on track. Coolant is slick and can be quite dangerous driving over into a corner. Water much less of a risk and nothing to clean up.

@ it’s a pressurized system and there’s water wetter. People have been using straight water for decades.

Theres a UK company that makes the trans cooler seperate. Mounts just above the splash shiled. Im running a setup like Jasons but only 1 cooler, worked well for me at midohio, but ambient was around 70ish. Also just running with OTS tune, no big turbo, so less heat. Really dont want to cut holes in the bumper, but these vents do look good (once they fix the fitment).
Yeah saw that oil cooler kit but still not clear on whether it deletes the oem trans cooler or not. That’s an important distinction because not deleting the oem cooler would imply surface cooling and not actual transmission liquid cooling

😂 for what it’s worth most people won’t need to go the full transmission cooler route. The dual oil coolers with a good radiator and vented hood will work for most but for those that push a lot of HP and track in warm weather the trans cooler with the oils coolers is the way to go.

PWR doesn’t have an oil cooler kit for the FL5 Type R and I helped develop this kit with CSF. I speak from experience and I’ll be the first to tell you that there isn’t a better cooling system on the market for the FL5.

@ good chance both will rub with a +35. Min for the FK8 I’d say it’s +38 and when the you’ll have to cut one tab in the rear to prevent rubbing
Thanks for this video. I want to 6 piston brake upgrade on mine and really leaning towards these. Is the rear upgrade necessary as well or do we need to do it for balance?
Not needed for balance per se. Just great reliable brakes that with the right pads and fluids will never fade and brake super hard

4 bangers sound awful with aftermarket exhaust on them. Stock sounds perfect. Say No to fart cans!
I think the stock exhaust sounds fine but there are some amazing aftermarket options out there if you know what to look for.

Any regrets selling your fk8? Do you like your fl5 a lot better? I know this sounds corny.. but I just traded in my FBO fk8 for a 2025 fl5 and I’m having regrets and am depressed as can be.

Hi mate, You’re the only person I know with a valve controller. Have you had any issues with the valve not responding to the controller? Got mine installed and by the time I got home two hours later the valve doesn’t seem to want to open
Double check the spring at the bottom of the valve. If it’s installed wrong or not seated correctly it’ll actuate once and then it’ll get stuck
@ Found the issue, the heat shield had cut and sliced the word and shorted the fuse😂 Garage who fitted it have rectified it so all good Thanks for the quick response, went for non res to start and am happy I bought the controller, might look into part-res like you have in future. Does it still crackle with the res?

A CF or FRP insert that’s open would look good. And cut out a square on the fender liner and put a mesh screen, so air can flow out. I hate the fake vents. Also - I never use wiper fluid as well! Thought I was the only one.
I now have custom vents for a dual oil cooler set up.

Obviously these are track temps/conditions, but is the oil pressure supposed to be in the 50psi range for your setup now? Seems like the stock system hangs around 60-70psi range, but IIRC you have a high flow oil pump so maybe its different.
You aren’t wrong. I had 0W20 in there and at this power level I likely need a thicker oil so will probably bump up to 10w30. Oil pressure will drop a little bit also because of the extra lines and now 2 oil coolers it has to pump through

Normal for a tracked Civic Type R? Absolutely. After the first session the temps got much better because we found an air bubble in the coolant and I accidentally had the AC on full blast the first session. So all things considered those are better than they would’ve been

I agree but things to note. First session I had the AC on full blast (by mistake) and there was a bubble in the coolant. Once we resolved those two things the temps were in control
I would highly reccomend avoiding Rich Farler at all costs. Previous business names: RDF tuning, VRF tuning. 5 minutes of research shows multiple horror stories. Richard has taken credit for other people's work.
It’s a bit of a moot point since Rich is probably winding down operations but having said that, unless you’ve seen things first hand I’d make sure you have all the facts before commenting.
