Stunning alcohol ink ceramic tray #alcoholinks #alcoholinkartist #trinketdish
Long time between drinks, my friends!
Check out this gorgeous ceramic dish I created for my son's amazing girlfriend 🥰
I used #copic in the colour: lipstick rose, and a little argyle purple, also with the old faithful: pinanta brass by #jacquard and 100% isopropyl alcohol.
I used all my usual air tools (air bulb, air brush and hairdryer) because they each serve their own purpose and strength for helping me to control the ink.
When you choose ceramic for your inks, you need to make sure it's glazed. Bisque will absorb the inks, and they won't flow the way you want them to.
Inks like to climb up the sides of ceramic dishes, so you'll need to clean those edges down so they're not too high for your resin coating. (Just something I've observed, and figure is noteworthy).
Even if you're using resin, the inks still need to be sealed with Krylon Kamar, because resin is a solvent and will reactivate or bleed your inks.
Ceramics are great because the ink doesn't stain the surface (99% of the time), so you can rework as much as you like without being bound to any staining hindering your designs.
Let me know in the comments if you have any questions, I'm happy to help and love talking about art!

Ohhh, how I was charmed by this magical dance with my media! Many moments were spent basking in her flow, just waiting for her to tell me what more she needed 💖 I sat for hours listening to her whispers, calling for me to trust that I would know when she was whole and to have no doubt that it would be my hands that carried her through. Hello hello! These little beauties were popular! I have to admit that I'm very much in love with them, myself! Working in this manner can also be done on one large sheet, (taped into sections or not; whichever you prefer), and then cut into individual pieces when you find cropped sections that you think have a good strong composition. You can do this by using a viewfinder, or a mat frame, or ev...

Alcohol ink abstract tulip- simplistic, but gorgeous!

Hello loves! Just a quick little cutie to show you all. This video is a good visual for you all to see how I use my hairdryer to push the ink around. Always from the outside, allowing the air to hit the surface and push from the sides of the puddles, NEVER directly on top when I'm trying to control the inks. It is ok to do it when the majority of the evaporation has occurred, and your puddle is...

Hey crew! I've noticed a big up-trend in a couple of art groups I'm in (@sheleeart and @thislittlepigment), where people are wanting to make alcohol inks with their pretty, shimmery mica, but a lot of people aren't considering a binder! If you're adding isopropyl alcohol to mica, what happens when all the iso evaporates? ...yep. You're just left with mica again. YOU NEED A BINDER! I gotchu, fam...

Hey peeps, it's been (another long) minute between vids! Today I'm showing you how to mount ink art onto a cradled board! You will need: -A piece of art- Please make sure you have fully sealed the artwork prior to mounting. This is particularly important because adhesives can re-activate/run/smear alcohol inks. - A cradled board - A cutting mat and blade - A brayer/rolling pin/cardboard tube or...

Heya, welcome to.. whatever this becomes!
Very beautiful. Alcohol ink is such a special medium with so many different possible effects. It may be difficult with that narrow opening in the vase but I have seen artists use foam and a pipe from a cup turner to hold the vase firmly. They just hold it by the pipe and turn it easily in their hands without touching the vase at all.
@sherryleggett1612 thank you! I actually tried that with a christmas decoration once, and i just couldn't get it right- it was my best option, but i still struggled to make it feel stable enough. I was using a piece of dowel, though, because it's what i had at the time. I suspect a wider pipe would have been more ideal!
the video is very pixelated is that youtube or internet compression?
@lprophit you're right! I have not noticed it before. I was having a lot of trouble with the editing app i used at the time. I suspect that may be the cause. It was incredibly glitchy with long videos and lots of edits. So sorry!
Omg! Thank you! I live in Florida, so soo humid. I thought it was just me!
It can be a bit of a bugger when you have a specific task! 😅
Very beautiful! 😍 3. questions: 1. do you use alcohol or blending solution with your inks? 2. do you dilute your piñata brass in alcohol if so in approximately what proportions, or you use it straight? 3. You mentioned non-staining paper, is it Nara of graphic paper, what would your recommend? I hate Yupo because it stains right away…
Thank you! I don't use blending solution very much at all. If I'm working on ceramic dishes, I might use a little then. Otherwise, it's still just isopropyl. Yes, I do dilute my brass. I have a small needle tipped bottle that i use, so it's always ready to go. I am terrible with amounts, but my guesstimate would be about a quarter to a third of brass, and the rest isopropyl (mine is 100%). I think the grafix paper is lovely to use- if i was only allowed to pick one, I'd probably choose that. They really do all have their place, however. Some inks break out beautifully into multiple colours better on yupo than grafix (the joys of dye). But I also love the convenience of the nara rounds. I get annoyed having to cut it up myself 🤭 But I'm also limited to the size I can get in the grafix paper, so I bounce between all 3. 😄
THANK YOU for putting so much emphasis on the safety and importance of using a mask. I also tell people to be sure to use nitrile gloves to help minimize exposure through absorption through the skin. Great tutorial on how to move ink with different tools!
I know how ill I have made myself when I was none the wiser in my beginner days! It's an incredibly awful feeling, and one that is definitely not worth ignoring! There are still people that don't take it as seriously as I think they should, but all it takes is a quick google search to know the vapours are harmful ❤️
Can you😊please make ag video that explains how to do it. The things we need to😊know. I'm sorry, but I didn't get heads or trails out of your video. Because I am a 1st timer, I had no clue what you were talking about. Please try. Ty
Thank you for your feedback! I will try to make sure I provide clear information in future 😄
What paper are you using? I am struggling to find one that doesn’t stain…
In this video, i used Grafix paper. I got it from amazon. It's probably the best at minimal staining. Copic ink in black has stained all my papers, so they aren't 100% flawless, but it's the best so far 👌
Perfect and to the point! THANK YOU! Question: could you use guar gum as a binder?
Thanks Suzanne! I haven't tried that- give it a go and see what happens! It would only take a small dash to test, so no major wastage if it flops! ♥️
I love working with texture art and mixing it with acrylics. In fact I have a piece I did with actually joint calm down mixed with glue and paint and then painted it and I messed up the bottom of the canvas where are the material ended so thanks for the tip of putting canvas on the back and covering up the mistake. I can see this is going to be gorgeous.❤❤❤❤
Texture is so great, i have big love for it too!
@coolbreezeartstudio could I use an acrylic medium i.e. liquitex gloss medium or the liquitex pouring medium and mix the alcohol and pigment in with one of those?
Unfortunately the acrylic mediums are incompatible with the alcohol. Alcohol is a solvent and it works unfavourably with acrylic mediums- you'll get a clumpy, goopy mess.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE KEEP MAKING VIDEOS!!!!! Tutorials especially!
Ahh thank you! I love your enthusiasm! ❤️
@@CoolBreezeArtStudio I find there are a lot of "tutorials" on here but few that really hit home. Your videos do! I've even reached out to a few people asking if they do private lessons and either got a rude response or no response. I stopped asking!
@@littlesistersoaps7653 I'm so happy i can convey myself in ways that work for you! It's such a bummer that you've had negative interactions, i really hope they're a rare occurrence 😕 I could talk about art all day 😅
Thank you so much for being a supporter and promoter of safety with alcohol inks! So needed!
Thank you! So many people are just so unaware (even I was oblivious when i started out). I can't help but cringe when i see people unmasked or using straws

I love YOU! ❤️
Bree this was so cool to watch.
Thank you! ❤
This is amazing Bree, I’m just starting out and wondered how long you have to wait till you use the Kamar Varnish and then is there a waiting time until resining. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful piece of art. 😊
Thanks so much! ❤ You can leave the art for a day before you use the kamar and it'll be fine. I have sealed it the same day when I've been in a time crunch though, and everything was fine. Give it a day before using resin after that as well. People say some things need to 'gas off' so I figure the 24 hours gives it some breathing time. 😊
@@CoolBreezeArtStudio thanks so much Bree. I wasn’t sure if it was like acrylic pouring where I usually wait 3-4 weeks. I really appreciate you getting back to me.
😍🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks piggeh! 🫶🦾
WOW love this so pretty and love the colors 😍 can you tell me what your favorite brand of alcohol ink is and why ?
Thank you! Copic are my favourites, and Ranger are a close second. I like the colour range and thwy move well. There have been some cheap inks in the past that have moved a little oddly to me, so I have settled on those brands. Pinata is also very good, I just don't tend to reach for their colours, unless it's the brass. 😊
@@CoolBreezeArtStudio Thank you and more videos please 😁
Great video, thank you! I don’t ink often or for long periods of time but I don’t have a respirator. I do wear a good quality face mask though. Will that be providing some protection do you think?
Thank you! Your mask needs to be for VOC's. A particulate mask is not going to be adequate, as it filters vapours differently to particles
How much binder do I need for a bottle
You're going to have to experiment with that. Truthfully, you can't use "too much" because the solutions are made specifically for alcohol inks anyway, it's more about how much mica you prefer in your mix (which really doesn't need to be much at all).
@@CoolBreezeArtStudiodo you still use ipa with the binder too?
Thank you so much. 😊
💖
Do you use just the binder, or together with the alcohol?
You can add in some alcohol if you like, yes. You can also make the mix with the solution, and then work on your substrate with just iso too. Just remember if you flood with too much, you might have some mica dusting/transference again if you over dilute. ❤️
Love love love when people know what they're talking about!! Thank you :) Saw a video saying that you could also use hair spray as a binder and then just mix mica with isopropyl? Have to try that out too - would be more inexpensive if it works?
I have heard the hairspray suggestion, but I don't use it. I already had the proper product, so I didn't need to attempt it with hairspray. I am curious as to how it would hold up longer term, in comparison to the branded ink solutions in the video, though. I also don't love the idea of spraying the aerosol into a cup of fine mica powder, which is another reason I've refrained from bothering.
Just beautiful. I would like to have seen the full 20 mins though. Probably could have sat an hour, its that good❤
Wow, thank you so much!
Stunning piece!!! And thanks to sheepy. Now I can fix that canvas I put a hole in
🤣 bloody sheep. Lucky i love 'em 🥰😂
Can you make it with regular pigment?
You mean non-iridescent pigment, such as oxides? I have not, but let your curiosity guide you, and test it out!
Bree just subscribed after seeing Lisa's channel. Question...can these inks work on a canvas with a base of acrylic paint down? If so how would I do it
Thanks for subscribing! Yes, that will work. You can ink directly onto pre-gessoed canvas, you can seal it with any kind of clear medium if you prefer, too (i used to use diluted gloss medium), USA inkers would often use kilz as an option. The inks will never move the same as they do on yupo or ceramic, but they will still work on canvas. That's a slightly different learning curve, though. It just feels different, and you'll notice it in comparison.
Bree, this piece is amazing, I love love love it! Just found out your channel while watching alcohol ink videos. You’ve got a new follower from Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so grateful you're here 🥰
Hi, I'm a beginner, I'm fascinated by your work ❣ Can you please tell me the name of the brands of your material? Paper, ink, extender... I'm portuguese, so I can't understand the brands of good materials. Thank you so much 😍❤
Thank you Cecelia! The inks i use are made by the brands Copic and Ranger. My favourite metallic is brass, by Pinata. I use Yupo, Grafix and Nara papers (in this particular video, i used Nara). I buy 100% isopropyl aclohol to move the inks, but if you can't get it that pure, anything above 90% will be fine. Make sure you wear a respirator suitable for toxic vapours when you work with inks! ❤️
I really enjoyed your video. Thank you. 🥰
Thank you so much, I appreciate you saying so 🥰
Thank you for sharing this info with us. I just ordered some claro and I’m waiting for the delivery!
You are so welcome, hope you have fun creating! ❤️
Excellent work Bree - as an Aussie can I ask what was the name of the locally produced ink you used?
Thanks Lindsay! It was by funkadelic. Their insta handle is funkadelic.com.au and there's a link to their website which is ceramictilepaper.com I don't know if their range has regular dye-based colours or not, i only know of their mica-based ones.
is Yupo the only substrate you use?
Hi Marilyn, no it isn't. I use Yupo, Nara and Grafix as my main synthetic papers, i also like to ink on ceramic/porcelain too. If you're wanting to explore, just remember anything that is non-porous is good game!
Awesome thankyou so much this is exactly what i have been looking for. I have been wondering this for a long time off to the shops tomorrow for some binder
You're welcome, so happy it helped you! 😊
Beautiful Bree! Haven’t tried any alcohol inks yet but have everything😍how did you or do u seal this vase?!
Thanks Penny! The same way we seal our yupo pieces. Always with kamar first. I was actually wanting to put this one on my cup turner and resin it, but i haven't done that yet 😅
Hi Bree! I just learned about you through Shelee. There is no need for apologies, I was pretty engaged with your lessons. I really really want to dive in and learn a ton about Alcohol ink art, sooooo I'll be back! I'm subscribed and the bell is set to on! Love your work And thank you for what you do!! Jennifer from Colorado USA
Love that, thanks, Jennifer! It's always so lovely to hear I've helped or encouraged people in some way! 🥰
Here with thanks to "Messy Marvin" and very grateful to have found you! A whole new insight into using brushes to assist in controlling both composition and ink flow. I just love the addition of the sprays of ISO! I've seen it before but it was always added at the end of the piece rather than during which resulted in an uncontrolled spray whereas yours .... c'est magnifique! Please keep posting more vids :))
Wow thanks Karen, what an encouraging comment, fills me with enthusiasm. Thank you! 🥰
You are so versatile!!! I envy your abstract ability! 🥰
Aw Sez, i say the same about your trees! 😍😍 Your drawing skills are incredible! ❤

I love this piece 😍♥️💐
Thanks Fiona! ❤❤
Omg really enjoyed watching you create this beauty ❤ good job your sheep didn't make a horizontal tear!
Thanks, Niki! I still would've tried to save the canvas 😂 I've had it for ages and was dying to use it, I just would've used a whole bunch more texture paste 🤭
Stunning 😍
Thanks a million, Julie ❤❤
I think it's beautiful.
