- So, here I am: unfiltered, dishevelled, and thrown in the deep end!
I'm doing a quick chit-chat intro (about 5-ish minutes, so, not actually quick at all), and then a simple alcohol ink piece tacked onto the end.
It's a nice, easy starting point to show you all that you can make something pretty without over-complicating or overwhelming yourself with any pressure or crazy expectations.
The original art making video is about 20 minutes, so I've sped it up 300% to prevent boredom for you all. Let me know if time lapse is not your thing, though! Part of the reason was simply because this has an intro chat, and I didn't want it to be too long.
There really is something about putting oneself out like this. I feel incredibly exposed 😅 and have a renewed respect for people that do it, and for the people I insisted had to do this (looking at you, Niki 🤭). I'm used to presenting my art in its completed form, with all the frills. But this... this is new.
Anyhow, I hope you stay a while and give me the opportunity to improve 😉
WHAT I LEARNED: TH-cam likes landscape filming orientation, not portrait 🤦♀️
I used: 100% isopropyl alcohol #copic alcohol inks in burnt umber and agate; #pinatabrass by #jacquard and #yupo paper

That piece is stunning, of course you made it look simple. I wonder if you could put either a very small piece of double sided tape on each corner, or a dot of glue stick to help hold it. They would probably keep it in place and you could still re position as long as you just use a tiny bit. It’s just a thought, try it first with a piece of regular paper. 😊
I have used regular tape and it works great, but i like to move the paper around a heap, so i need to remember to tape it to a piece of small cardboard or something

So happy to finally put a face to the art. Lol. This is amazing Bree. When you use those little bottles, do you add alcohol to the ink or just alcohol to the piece, then ink. I have all the stuff except the paper. I’ve seen it being put on canvas as well. I’m really excited to learn from you. Thanks for your time and knowledge. You rock! ❤
Hey Joyce! In this particular piece, the tiny dropper bottle i was using had only isopropyl alcohol in it. You can pre-dilute the ink into bottles if you want, but i don't (except for my metallics). I prefer to use disposable shot cups now if I'm pre-diluting. It will all depend on what my intentions are with the piece of art as to how i approach it.
Yes, canvas is fine, too! It will move differently because it's not a slick surface, though, and is harder to rework. 💖💖💖

Question...can these inks work on a canvas with a base of acrylic paint down? If so how would I do it
Thanks for subscribing! Yes, that will work. You can ink directly onto pre-gessoed canvas, you can seal it with any kind of clear medium if you prefer, too (i used to use diluted gloss medium), USA inkers would often use kilz as an option. The inks will never move the same as they do on yupo or ceramic, but they will still work on canvas. That's a slightly different learning curve, though. It just feels different, and you'll notice it in comparison.

I don't, sorry! I bought it from the online yupo store (I'm in Australia), but I don't think it's running anymore. If you google yupo paper, it should come up available in art stores etc still, or other brands for synthetic paper will come up 😊
