Caught a Venomous Coral Snake in the Garage!!! Catch & Release!
Well, this was quite exciting! A few days ago, my buddy Will and I were wrenching on Project Brownie, a 1991 F350 crew cab diesel dually, when I spotted a coral snake that had let himself into the garage! It was high adventure until I managed to get him secured in a pillow case. From there, we took the snake to a nearby uninhabited area and released him (or her) into the wild. Folks - venomous snakes can kill you, so please don't try this at home!!!

    Only Part way through the video but i just wanted to point out for those watching..... @ 13:06 - try not to get assembly lube on the mating surface where the cap sits as this can leave a small gap between the block and cap giving larger bearing clearances.

    A tip I've learned myself when applying anything from a squeeze tube is to use a pair of pliers pinched on the end and roll as you go. Much quicker, much easier, and more consistent application. If I didn't know any better, but I think the lockup collar/spacer was installed one tooth CCW? It just didn't look right from the video, but I haven't disassembled my 1356 yet to verify it! Also nice mod on pump, anything small to make it last that much longer!

    Farmer for 45 years, fixed lots of junk. Been around loggers and skidders. One way to repair a tapered shaft on your drive axle. Remove out drive axle, clean shaft best you can, get a welder. Set welder on highest power, take copper water pipe and scratch around on the drive shaft.. Lots of sparks and dazzle. The result, small fine balls of copper semi welded on the taper. This gives a larger diameter on the shaft because a loose wheel is a failure. Place wheel back on. Pressing the balls of copper flat. All your doing is making taper larger. If you got lots of money. Buy the replacement. If not, what you got to lose.

    I wanted to point out a possible safety issue. Make the bottom rails of the cribbing extend another 6-12" to increase shift stability. Sometimes a jack, especially on a rough surface like an older cement driveway with embedded rocks, it won't roll as easily under the vehicle as you jack it up, causing the vehicle to be pulled towards your jack. Even just as a precaution incase something else fails or goes drastically wrong, you can have more confidence in your car not tipping the cribbing over. Still a great simple build though!

I picked up what was left and placed on some wood for critters to eat...birds, other snakes, etc...kinda recycle the good (or bad) fellow. I felt bad for doing that but cannot take any future chances for my boy or wife or even myself, specially when we play in the backyard. After that incident, I bought a snake handler stick and a 5 gallon bucket from Lowe's with a lid ( I drilled small air holes on lid). Any future snakes that I don't want in my backyard I'll just catch them if I can, and my neighbor volunteered to release them in the wild.

    How much hp did you end up pulling from this build. Im curious. I have an 86 f250 with a 6.9 . It runs great but is limited. Wanna swap it for a 7.3 in the future. These videos gave me confidence in building one . R and D has some beautiful engines but im hoping to save a few thousand by building my own. Any tips on beefing up the block to support around 400-500 hp?

      I had to sell it before I got it on the road, but I really didn't care about hp. This build was all about torque, and if I recall correctly, I was looking at around 250 hp and 550 ft/lbs.

    Interesting video. I will definately give the wooden blocks a go. Check out the Gortech multi stage heavy duty scissor jack with the extra height accessory. Its a company out of South Africa and available in the US. You can lift heavy 4x4 's and even tractors with it and much cheaper than the Daytona low profile jack too.

    Would it be more structurally rigid to use full-length blocking in the center instead of just around the edges? I love the concept....Good job! No way I'm getting under 2 or 3 tons on jacks and jackstands...too old get stupider now! 😆

    • @THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE
      @THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure, it would be more rigid, but you get to the point of diminishing returns and it adds weight, too. I think these are plenty sturdy for what I will use them for. Thanks, Scott

      @@THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE , What worries me....without a solid layer of wood from top to bottom directly under the tires, those screws around the perimeter boards will just blowout and have a collapse like on 9/11?

    • @PTucker0864
      @PTucker0864 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just built mine....but with all 2x6" wood. 24" L x 18" W x 12" H, but made into 2 sections....a 6" H bottom and a perfectly fitting 6" section for the top. They are SOLID! I used interior grade non- predrill #10 3" long torx-head fasteners screwed in at a slight angle, from different directions per layer. I'd sleep under that car now if not for the spider larvae.....😬

      In my experience, there's always been a washer between the castle nut and the bearing, but I haven't seen every single application. Scott
