My mission is simple: To share stories, life lessons, advice and encouragement...plus my love of music & TV....oh yeah, and anything else I find of interest!
My channel is where I'll share my memories, chat about life in general and share my love of music, old films and more.
You won't find my thoughts on politics, religion and such as I've always believed them to be personal.
Here, it's all about sharing those things I've learned through the years, and remembering events that have stayed with me.
Take Care Of Yourself
Yesterday I learned a salutary lesson about taking care of yourself. Here I share it in the hope that it's a reminder for you to do the same.

The Life-Changing Secret Nobody Tells You About Your Mind
Two things..did they take your blood pressure, as you’re no longer on meds? It’d be interesting to see how you’re doing. The more medication they gave you, the worse your condition has become. The meds may well have caused a clot, if you have one. Presumably before your check up and change of meds for blood pressure, you didn’t have any problems with your legs swelling. Think about that if it’s the case. Also, if it was so vital to stabilise your blood pressure..a) why were your original tablets not controlling it and b).. are any meds controlling it now if it’s so vital? I’m constantly shocked by the massively high number of older people ( my age 70) who are told they need blood pressure tablets..but when I ask if their blood pressure has ever gone to normal whilst taking them..none of them know. Secondly..look into carnivore or keto diet. Read the comments section and note the number of elderly people coming off all meds. It’s astounding. I eat carnivore with no more than 40 carbs per day and am on no meds at all. Maybe start off with listening to someone like Dr Ken Berry. Worth a try. Side note. My partner has had bowel and lung cancer ( separate primaries) for 2.5 years. Both slow growing. Decided no op or any treatment ( due to severe essential tremor) but fasts for 18 hours a day. In December he was told to the astonishment of his oncologist and the whole team, that his lung cancer has shrunk by half and bowel cancer is slightly smaller. We saw the scans for ourselves. Wonderful moment. We did research before deciding on this eating course and we became convinced by the science that cancer is a metabolic disease. If it’s not fed glucose, it can’t thrive. They are astonished and finally asked what and when he ate and fasted etc. Let food be thy healer. Wishing you good health and a good outcome to your present health issues.
Thank you for your comment. My BP was checked it it's still bit high. It was a change of.meds that started this. I've already stated.this to the doctor. Funnily enough I've been intrigued by carnivore. My neice swears by it. The comment has been enlightening. Thank you Christine.
First rule of keeping healthy is not to take medication. It's all about diet.
I've found that since I had my kidney removed 8 years ago, I've been more susceptible to other ailments. I'm sick of taking medication though. Thanks for your comment.
I recommend eating the Japanese food Natto, it will dissolve any clots and will lower blood pressure.
I've not heard of that. I'll have a look into it Peter. Thank you for your comment.
didn’t they put you on a pill to increase urin so you have less fluid in your system and could make you keep your ankle elevated above heart level so you don’t keep pooling blood to your lower extremities?❤️
I'm expecting that tomorrow when I see the doctor. I've spent the last two days since in the scan in that position.thanks for your comment James.
Hope you are well. For me personally I would say avoid modern medicine like the plague. Never over eat Always stay active Dont eat processed food Build muscle Dont drink Walk regularly Get outside I have had zero health problems my entire life following these principles. At 44 I have never once been to a Doctor in 30 years I am not even registered anymore I have seen the devastating effects of the healthcare industry. One drug leads to another to another to another. All to treat problems caused by a diet and lifestyle we are not supposed to live
I do some of the above, but not all. I have become more susceptible to different things since i had kidney cancer and lost a kidney in my 50s. Thanks for your comment. It's much appreciated.
As a man in my 60s I really value your company and insights
Thank you Richard. Your support is much appreciated.
Thanks for the good advice. I hope they resolve your health issue!
Thanks, Brooke. Hopefully, that'll start tomorrow when I see the doctor. Happy New Year to you.
Sorry to hear about this, James, and hope you are on the mend. Thank you for sharing - it encourages me to look after myself!
Hi Jason, Thanks for commenting. I'm getting there. Back with the doctor tomorrow, so hopefully moving forward. I'm glad the video struck a chord with you.
Great video, Iam 58, on no medication luckily but you're absolutely right. we are only here for such a short time, dont leave things if you think something is not right.
Thanks for your comment Tony. I'm back with the Doctor tomorrow but for now, I'm sat with my feet up hoping it will help with the swelling.
I wish you well James, I hope you feel better soon, 👍
Thanks Steve. Happy NewYear.
Best way to health is to cut out the carbs, eat high fat foods and eat once a day. Also, be sure to take a vitamin D supplement. The third biggest killer is prescription meds.
We're working on our diet. We also take vitamin D every day. Thanks for your comment.
Hello, How are you? I am a regular viewer of your TH-cam channel. I came here to say that- Your content is always engaging and incredibly well-presented!" Good luck to you.
Thank you. That's very kind of you to say so and much appreciated
Sure hope they find out what is causing it all. Prayers 🙏🙏❤
Thank you Tia, I'm sure they will.
I’m glad you’re getting things checked and sorted James, wishing you all the best my friend. Feel better soon we need you.🙂👍❤️
Thank you Tammy. Your support is much appreciated
If possible id rather gave a Blu-ray/4k disc, but uf bot available I'll happily get the DVD. They don't look/sound bad on my setup for certain releases. They are also cheap.
That's how I find them as well. Thanks for commenting.
Sorry to hear James, praying it all gets sorted and you'll be back to your old self 🙏 Thanks for the reminder to have our yearly physicals 🤗
Thanks Angela, I'm sure it will get sorted, hopefully soon. Much appreciated.
Hi James, I am praying for you. Nothing is impossible for our God. Keep us posted we care about you.
Thank you, Pam. Much appreciated. Will do.
🥲😪 *Scary, and frustratin*
You're right about scary...if it carries on much longer it'll be frustrating. Thanks for commenting.
I know you said about seeing a doctor, I get your message but you say you saw the doctor who said you had high blood pressure then came back with a reaction to the medication? It doesn't really reassure anyone to see the doctor lol however I wish you speedy recovery James
My problem, Dale, is that having only one kidney, I am more susceptible to problems. They'll get it right, it'll just take a bit of time. I've probably made the situation worse as my wife told.me I should have gone back earlier, and she's usually right. Happy New Year to you!
@JamesMurphyYT ah, that makes a lot of sense now, my partner too has one kidney, let's hope they sort it for soon enough, happy new year to you
@@vinyldale Thanks Dale
James, I’m glad you’re getting everything taken care of! I’m wishing you the absolute best, and a long life!!!
Thanks Kevin. I'm sure they'll get it sorted over the next week or so. Much appreciated!
Oh James...I'm so sorry to hear this...did your Dr give you any diuretics to get the fluid buildup down? My Ex has heart issues and his legs and mid-section swell up with fluid from time to time. His Dr prescribed him strong diuretics and potassium pills to balance sodium in his system. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 for you and Ms Debz
Not yet, but I'm back there to see the Doctor on Thursday, so I'm sure they'll get it back on an even keel. Thanks Ambree. Hope you're well. Happy New Year to ya!
Thanks for sharing, James.
You're welcome Jonathan
Praying for a quick discovery and recovery.
Thank you Christano. Much appreciated.
Prayers for a complete resolution to this issue James. 🙏
Thank you Kaye. Much appreciated.
So sorry to hear this James! Hope they get things figured out quickly. We wondered what you’ve been up too. 😕 From what you said, it seems to me it was the medication prescribed by your doctor that caused the swelling in the first place. We just recently got a new doctor since we moved and had some bloodwork as well. We’ll be talking soon about some changes we’re making for better health. ~ Deb
Thanks Deb. I think this is to do with the medication that had been prescribed. I think I didn't suited me.
Hi James hope everything is all ok take care of yourself.
@@PaulGibbons13 it will be once the professional get their act together! Thanks for asking Paul
So sorry to hear this Glad you are on it and hope things improve soon. Thanks for the nudge-i am one of those who avoids Dr visits
I seem to spend half my time around doctors since I had kidney cancer. That's gone fortunately, but I seem to get loads more niggles since. Thanks for commenting Janet.
I hope everything is fine
Thank you. Hopefully we'll get it sorted over the next week.
What a scary story! I'm glad you are taking care of yourself. We need you around!!
Thanks Tim. I've got to keep legs raised as much as I can to stop the fluid moving up my body for the moment, until the next stage is sorted. Thanks for commenting.
Buying dvds and paying to stream... jesus! Ive been torrenting for 15 years.. saved thousands!
I quite like having the physical media...and I'm a bit dim about torrenting. Thanks for watching.
@JamesMurphyYT but your just keeping these actor a55holes rich. Don't give your money to hollywood!
I was watching 'overboard' Kurt & Goldie movie on ITVX. They cut scenes out 🤦🏻♂️. I couldn't believe it, what a joke!
The film was too good to cut anything out. It disrupts the whole story. Thanks for your comment.
Words of wisdom that relate to all of us! I listened to a short Audio book last night by author James Allen from Leicester, England called As a Man Thinketh written in 1903. If you search the history of his parents and his story it is amazing what he overcame! I will say it again but the book you suggested recently “What to Say When You Talk to Yourself” has tied right into this video! James keep up the great content and keep on encouraging your followers! It is a breath of fresh air!
Thank you for your comment. I have the book As A Man Thinketh in my collection. I think I bought it in a collection some years ago. Our thinking is what decides where we'll end up negatively or positively. Thank you for your support. It's much appreciated. Happy New Year to you.
I've had to a couple of times but I am terribly bad at speaking in front of a large group. Memorials are the worst. (Ok, a few years ago, I got a signal from a funeral director and got up and went to the minister, who had never met Jake, and told him in front of everyone that there are other funerals waiting and he had been going on for ages about nothing to do with anything. He was just talking to hear himself talk. Before we were all thrown out for going overtime perhaps people who knew him should talk. Actually, everyone but one (it was his personal minister) thanked me later. I then pushed him, politely, aside and told a quick 'Jake and me' story and asked his other son to come up. I still get queasy thinking about it.) If I have to talk, I pick one subject and give a fast talk and hope people smile or even laugh, even at memorials. As a person who knows a little about everything and a lot about nothing, I am great in small groups. I'm not an imposter looking to try and belong. You can look up whatever I add online. I don't fake it trying to belong. And I ignore people who tell me that if I like 'whatever,' there are great books on the subject that they have studied. I left studying back in school. I like to contribute something and listen to everyone else. That is how I get along. Just talk about your experiences, as you have been, that you feel will relate to people watching and let them say, "Oh. I get that! And his way seems a bit better/wrong/on-the-nose. That is how we let people know we are there, but don't try to better them. I have never felt you are an imposter and making up stuff. I do hope your sons watch these again years from now and think how smart and clever you were but never a multi-millionaire! Happy New Year.
Hi Josh - thanks for your comment. I've spoken in front of big audiences before and funnily enough, I didn't find it daunting. That's probablly because we had to do 'debating' at school and I got used to it early. I'm a great believer in continuing education and have been a reader for years as I like reading non-fiction and expanding my knowledge base. It doesn't stop me feeling like an Imposter at times. I'm very much a jack of all trades and a master of none. I have a wide range of skills, butI've never been an expert at any of them. One thing I've never done with my channel is make things up as it wouldn't come across as true. I tell my life stories whether good or bad in the hope that they help someone and if that's the case, I'm happy. Even now though, I still have memonts of self-doubt when I need to get out of my comfort zone to move on.
Wisdom is not in a degree but in life experiences. Thanks for sharing this encouragement .good start to the New year. May yours bring you all you desire.
Thanks, Janet. That's kind of you to say so. I'm glad the video was of value to you.
Oh James. You and I must be within a couple of months of the same age. You have definitely been paying attention along the way. I appreciate your thoughts and perspective. I value what you've learned. It seems to me that I keep forgetting things I've learned. We've got to keep reminding ourselves and each other of these bits of wisdom.
I'm July 1960. As I've gotten older, I feel as though it's a duty to share the experiences with my sons and others so that they don't have the mistakes I have during my life. Thanks for your support. I'm very grateful.
Happy New Year James, this was another great subject.🎉
Thanks Tammy. Happy New Year to you too. I'm glad the video had value for you.
Good topic. I sometimes have the feeling that I can't find anything better than what I am already doing, which sometimes causes anxiety😅 like it will be a downhill from now on.
Thanks Christiano. I'm glad you found the video of value. There's always something better, sometimes you just have to look off the beaten track.
Happy New Year James 🎉
Thank you Angela. The same to you too.
*Amazin advice and perspective!!* We can put so much pressure on ourself to be perfect, the perfect we think people see, fearin lettin them down, or disappointin them. 🤙🏽⚡️🤟🏽⚡️👌🏽 Havin an "Express rather than Impress" mentality has helped me for years but the stuff in this video is just as important, if not, more important 👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you. I'm glad you found the video of value. Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated.

Hi great video hope you had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year to you 😀
Thanks Paul. I've had a busy Christmas/New Year, but a good one. Glad you got something from the video
Happy new year James! ☕️🇨🇦☕️
And to you both!
I just have to say James, you seem so comfortable talking to the camera. I’m sure picturing your sons helps, but I’m impressed. I have no problem just chatting when it’s me and OJ, but on my own, my mind goes blank! 😃 Something I need to work on this year! I guess I need that confidence that what I have to say has value.
Thanks Deb. It's much appreciated, especially having lost 20 subscribers over the Christmas period. I'm always working on improving the quality but sometimes it's hard to see that it's working. But that's part of the journey.
@ sorry to hear that James. We finally gained some! For months it’s been a trickle, but our year end video has brought a lot of new subs.
@MrsCoffeeWalks that's great to hear!
Thank you, James.
You're welcome Jonathan!
In many cultures, the elders are respected and revered for just the reasons you expressed. They've lived and learned and have valuable things to say (unless life has made them bitter.) On the other hand, kids have wonderful insight if we take the time to understand what they are trying to say. They are not hung up on whether they are qualified, they just say it. It's really quite wonderful.
Thanks for the comment Kaye. It's true that younger generations see things in different ways. My problem growing up was that I never took the time to understand what was being said, so I always felt I knew it all. It took me ages to learn that. Listening is a skill that we all need to learn better. Happy New Year to you.
Is this guy for real? He's paying for all of these streaming services AT THE SAME TIME! Just pay for ONE at a time and just take turns with them, limit your favourite movies and TV shows for that one service you're on at the time! It's very simple, really.
Sadly, I was for real. That's why I called it a day. unfortunately I've never been perfect and I've learned lessons the hard way. Thanks for watching.
Sorry, mate, you've got TERRIBLE taste in movies and TV shows!
It's a good job we've all got different tastes or we'd all be the same - Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy New Year
