Okay, this is uncanny. Just two days ago, I picked up a new-to-me (used-dated 2002) puzzle from a nearby Goodwill store - All About…Chocolate! This is the third time, lol. Another fun unboxing vid. You’re a lucky chap - it must be like a holiday every time the mailperson shows up 😄
Hi Ric. Another great job on a beautiful puzzle. You mention you’ve glued up a few puzzles for display; do they all have that glossy finish? Have you tried other glues to see if there is a difference? I ask because I have a 5000pc that I would love to assemble and hang, but I would prefer a matte finish (it’s enough to deal with glare when puzzling - it would be nice to not have that on the finished product).
hi mate! thanks again for the excellent feedback! well, so far all the glues I tried are glossy! I am literally starring at a hung puzzle here and double checked, it does reflect a lot of light. This particular one I used here has UV protection, hence why I used it, because this Map is facing a big window, the only place I had in the house. But I think if you look for, you may actually find matte finish glues. Please do let me know if you find it!
@ Oh, good mention on the UV protection - I hadn’t considered that - and living here in San Diego, I could definitely use it! I’ll certainly keep you posted.
This would be probably fry my brain and I will not be tempted as puzzle YT videos always have me grabbing my wallet. 😂 I do have a question…why didn’t you continue to work side by side longer before flipping, which made it more difficult?
hi Iggy! so sorry for the long delay, I was travelling and there was no Internet where I was (Raglan, NZ), just arrived home. well maybe you should try one of these puzzles! they are not as difficult! haha let me know if you do. well I guess I switched over because my brain was telling me it was time? I could have completed the 2 half maybe in my next "most difficult" (which I have 2 more of) I can definitely try that and will mention your suggestion!
@ Oh…I thought there was something specifically strategic about when you switched over. 🤣🤣 I have a slight problem with visual orientation, which is why not having a reference by way of a picture is intimidating for me and add differing angles? 🤯 No need to change what works though. You’ve made it sort of an organic process. 👍🏽 Looking forward to more videos.
Great video, Ric. I really appreciate puzzles like this - not only do they look like pieces of art, but they really are. I have a couple I’m saving to hang, but I’m hesitant to make any permanent decision. I like the idea of using butcher paper for the backing. I’ve also seen people using painters tape. What I’d really like is to find a glue that would “plump” the puzzle so the cut lines aren’t so visible. I guess I just need to experiment with some different glues. Any thoughts/suggestions?
Good day Murphy! just been on holiday at an off grid location, apologies for the long delay in replying! glad you see the same thing about this kind of puzzle, each piece seem to be a tiny artwork aren't they! I guess the trick is to experiment with the glue methods indeed! this paper works perfectly for me, but im sure if you experiment you may find the methods that suit your taste and needs, of course! pls do let me know if you try different gluing methods! hahah I dont why you would hide the joins / pieces though hehe unless the image is far more important than the puzzle. :-) Thanks mate for your feedback, great to have your input in the videos!
Wow!😯 Your review made me appreciate how tough this one must be. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Ric! 🙌
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed the video, I certainly had my work cut out for me with this one! 😁
@@RicPuzzles It was a pleasure to watch. I'm looking forward for more puzzling contents from you! 💯
Terrific puzzling tips and tricks, Ric. Like you, I enjoy taking the time to organize my sorts (they’ve been called my “Monk moments”) - I find it calming, and it really does help. I was always a “finger pointer” when looking for a particular piece, but I really like the idea of using the window/cutout. BTW, what are you using as pointer in the video (small silver tube with an angled black end)? Great choice in puzzle, too.
Thanks so much, it’s great to hear from another puzzle puzzler. Glad to know you find this Cutout useful. The pointer is just an old touch screen pen for an android phone, it has a rubber tip which doesn't scratch the puzzle pieces heheh, thought I could use it instead of a pen.
OMG. I previously left a comment on an earlier video - and what do I see in this one? The exact double-sided puzzle I mentioned! (the leprechauns) 🤯 I really never expected to see that again. Good luck, mate!
hahah it's the universe telling you to stick around with my videos heheh, jokes apart what a great coincidence isn't it?!
@ Yeah, it really was! BTW, when I worked the double-sided puzzle, I “improvised” by doing the puzzle on a glass-top coffee table. Some may call it cheating; I choose to think I was quite clever 🤣 It was a bit awkward…sitting on the sofa puzzling, then crawling under the coffee table, back to puzzling, back under the table…Needless to say, it wasn’t the fastest solve, and my knees were not fans of it.
I really like the double-sided HMS Victoria puzzle. Such a great find. I have only done one double-sided puzzle, but that was more gimmicky - same image on both sides, but rotated 90 degrees. Challenging, for sure, but I didn’t care for the image (repeating leprechauns). I am a bit jealous how many unique vintage puzzles you have managed to find in your corner of the world. Here in the states, it seems like anything old is shunned and disposed of (read into that what you will); we’re like magpies, looking for the next shiny thing…
hi Murphy! thanks for the excellent feedback mate, indeed the HMS is such a unique and older puzzle, Cant wait to get to it! it's definitely on the to-do list. haha ohh thx mate, im glad to hear you enjoyed the collection this much. I really appreciate the feedback!
Yes
Hello.
Hello!
Hello.
hi there! sorry for the long delay!
It‘s so interesting what kind of strange puzzles, puzzle ideas and motives exist. Thank you for showing us this puzzle! I had fun watching. :)
hi Sorta! thats nice to hear, glad I am able to surprise you with exquisit themes :-)
I absolutely have to sort and organize my pieces like you do! Some channels act like piece sorting by shape should be a last resort thing, but my brain needs order 😉 Glad to see I'm not the only one 😊
Hi Suzie! Thats so cool, im glad too im not alone. For me as well order always comes first- chaos doesn’t work for me!
Another great video Ric and I might steal your idea to solve my version of this type of puzzle!! The one I have has different dogs on it, as opposed to the one with all Dalmatians!! I am really glad you are back creating content (which I have said before)!! Watching you and listening to you, as well as some other creators, helps with chronic pain flare ups. I had a botched back surgery years ago and had been dealing with it well. Unfortunately, in past few years, the episodes of pain and now weakness in my legs has gotten worse so I had to give up being a nurse after almost 40yrs. Not looking for anything by saying this, just letting you know how much I enjoy your videos. Until the next one caio😊
Thanks Donna! That sounds like a challenging puzzle! I myself also have botched work done and now have to live with it so i know what you mean very well. Thanks for enjoying the video, it means a lot to me!
the only type i have tried with these so called "harder" puzzles are the 'Impossibles' puzzles where there is no edge and has extra 5 pieces. it was more challenging than normal puzzle and i think from after watching this video it was more difficult than your one but not impossible to complete. great video Ric!
Cheers, glad you enjoyed it! I’ve heard a lot about those impossibles puzzles.
🧩🎉🧩🎉🧩🎉you made it look so easy!!!! :) :) 😯a double sided puzzle😯 i don't know if i would try it!😅😅😅😅
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Double-sided puzzles can be a fun challenge if you’re up for it, but definitely take your time! 😁
@RicPuzzles your presentation was really really really well done again too. 🎉🧩🎉🧩🎉🧩💚🧩💜🧩🧡🎉💚🧩🎉🧡🧩💜🎉🧩💚🎉🧩🧡🎉💜🧩🎉💚
@ThirzaTumTum wow thank you so much Thirza! I was just watching Mandy’s latest live chat and she said hi to you! What a small world 🤭
That is an old Buffalo. It is an interesting image Ric. I enjoyed this video. I have only done one 500 piece double sided puzzle. It was fun.
Cheers, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! That sounds like a great puzzle, the one I did was tough!
Great video! Thanks for sharing the tips and tricks. I bought the Leprechaun puzzle for hubby as a Stocking Stuffer for Christmas. He loves brain teasers. I’ll direct him to your video if he gets truly stumped. Maybe 😈 😆
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it! The leprechaun puzzle is a tough one, hopefully the video will help if he gets stumped, good luck! 😁
Hi Ric, your video must wait, cos I want to try first "The most difficult jigsaw puzzle - Dalmatians" and dont want to know any hint first. I have respect of it. U r doing great job - love your puzzles. ❤❤❤
Hey thanks so much for that kind feedback! Looking forward to seeing your progress with that one 😁!
That makes me not be so intimidated by those double sided ones. Thank you for your advice on how to approach it without pulling your hair out.
good day RockyMountainPuzzler! cheers from New Zealand, always great to hear your feedback. glad to hear you feel more confident about this kind of puzzle!
I have the clown fish double sided (not from buffelo) on my to do list. Watching your video I'm thinking I should attempt mine soon. Well done! It's a beautiful puzzle.
oh thanks Isabelle for your excellent feedback, I have just looked up the puzzle you mentioned, looks so much fun! I found a similar one today but didn't buy it, at a local second hand shop, but looking forward to seeing what you will come up with!
Thanks Ric another great video
hello theGoodChicken! ohhh thank you very much for your feedback! so happy you enjoyed it
That puzzle is as old as me!😅
haha that's awesome, I was 8 years old when it came out heheh
@@RicPuzzlesI was 18! 😂😂
Congratulations, great job! I haven't done one of these. I don't know if I would have had the patience to do this. Great image.
good day Laverne, what a great surprise to see your comment today, thx! haha yeah it's a different puzzle but I'm sure once you try one you will feel more adventurous about all sorts of puzzles. I'm trying to think outside the box lately and this type of usual puzzle have come really handy! cheers!
Never done any of that type and not particularly interested in so doing. The word difficult can mean different things to people. For some it will be I'm doing it however long it takes and for others it's no thanks I don't want to fry my brain. The same principle could apply to the word impossible. Well done for getting it finished and the image is really good.
Hi puzzlepiece! Haha yeah i get you, not the most exciting puzzles for sure but fun once you start. There is also the manipulation of words to sell more too which is probably where the intention is for brands, as you pointed out the word difficult might mean different things - causing some to take the plunge when they see the word on the box. So true about impossible too, i get what you mean 100%
Great video!
Cheers mate! Thank you so much
Interesting puzzle to say the least! I have never assembled a double sided before. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed it!
Hey, Ric! Thanks for the shoutout in your video! The one from that series I had done was "Devil's Dilemma', Buffalo, Sue Parnell, 500. I had found all the matches, lined them up and put them together in about 5 hours. I never did flip and join two sides like you did. Lots of ways to tackle puzzles like this. This past April, I did another 500 double sided one, same format, "Souper Hard" (Campbell Soup Cans), TCG Toys. Knocked that one out in 4 hours--was also labeled as 'very hard'--your emoji fits! I have done some WFH puzzles in the past that took me weeks--these definitely ain't them! The image on the double sided one you just did reminded me of the artwork in children's Bible story books I saw as a kid. They just have that look. Cheers!
That is so cool! It's great to hear from other puzzle enthusiasts and hey i hope it wasnt too much when you saw your comment in the video! I’ll definitely check out the titles you’ve done already, they might be worth a shot too 😁👍🏻
I have a few of these and love them. You'll have a different experience with the leprechaun one.
Hi TimRachel, thats awesome to hear, i cant wait for the Leprechaun puzzle indeed 👍🏻😁
Amazing
Thank you so much for watching mate!
Excellent puzzle! I remember seeing this before and was intrigued. Thanks for the wonderful insight.
Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate you!
Impressive, on all fronts. You said you had to repair a few pieces (peeling). Have you done a video showing how you do that?
Thanks mate, really appreciate that feedback, the missing pieces reconstruction is at 6:27 onwards 😁👍🏻
Sorry, I was referring to your mention of peeling pieces at 4:55. I’ve had a piece here and there that needed some TLC, but I wasn’t sure how to best fix them.
Oh! Sorry mate i must have misunderstood 😅 i am yet to make a video about that! I dont have much experience with it though, normally i just ignore the missing pieces 😂 but thanks for asking! Something to think about for sure.
Great insight into your approach to solving this puzzle - and the paper cutout was brilliant. This reminds me a bit of the corks puzzle (Piatnik) I did a couple years ago. It was very challenging and took me about a month to complete, but the sense of accomplishment was well worth it. Give yourself a pat on the back. Well done.
Thank you so much for watching and for the feedback! The feeling of accomplishment after completing a puzzle that takes a month is truly remarkable, im exactly the same as you, i take my time as i know it’s worth it! 👍🏻😁 thanks again mate!
I will miss seeing your handsome face, but your comfort comes first. Do what you need to do for you. I will still enjoy your videos. In fact, I know a TH-camr who started without showing her face and she did that for some years and now has 172,000 subscribers, and now she has decided to start showing her face in Jan 2025. She had kept her face off for privacy for herself and because of her discomfort. But now, she says she feels more comfortable and wants to reveal her face for the Lives she does. Anyway, my point is everyone does what works best for them, so no worries at all. Thanks for letting us know the reason. That helps.
Thanks so much for the understanding and the great feedback! Fascinating story about this other TH-camr! I was considering doing livestreams too but show the puzzles from above then i realised yeah i am literally blocking up from all the good stuff because i just feel like my talking head intros are so cringe
@@RicPuzzles I don't think your intros are cringe at all - I think you are being too hard on yourself! I hope you go easier on yourself - and can enjoy the whole sharing puzzle experience on TH-cam.
👍🏻😁 oh thank you do much! I’ll think this through.
Hej Ric, I was rewatching this video and I noticed something I missed the first time around, regarding the F.X. Schmid, Tribute to Nelson by William E.D. Stuart. This brand’s name is similar to Schmidt Spiele (usually just call Schmidt), and I wonder if perhaps you have heard about their puzzles when people have mixed up the names. Both brands are German but that is where the similarities end. Schmidt (with a “t") puzzles are today of the best quality, sometimes even better than Ravensburgers (modern Ravesburgers). And it was just Ravensburger that bought up FX Schmid in the nineties and now uses the name brand for some of their products, although not puzzles. If the bad info you got was indeed about a Schmidt Spiele puzzle, it had to have been an old exemplar. If one exists; I have never even seen one.
hi Lock Kulla! absolutely, I always thought I was going mad, because every time I say FX chmiD people jump in to defend them and call it Schmidt, and I really failed to see what the fuss is about since the quality was really basic or questionable! I have bought many older FX shmid puZzles (SHMID) from the 90s mostly before and pretty much all of them were on the blurrier looks...hahah your feedback makes perfect sense! I will write it down to make a video about it.
@@RicPuzzles Glad to have cleared some of the confusion. There are other tidbits in this video worth expanding on. Falcon puzzles, for example. Originally a British brand, it is now owed by Jumbo Games, from the Netherlands, and has become a very popular collection under this brand. It’d be interesting to own an original Falcon, for comparison. See how you keep finding the odd and the unusual? If you happen to find a Falcon/Jumbo, in its distinctive forest green box design, don’t hesitate to buy it. Great quality and their artists' work on themes like the one on the Holdson Times Past. Kind of nostalgic scenes of a kinder time. Or an Idealised picture of a time that probably never was. The images are pretty either way.
Oh wow thank you for the fantastic insight, i didn’t know any of these logistics, good to know! I’ll keep an eye for the green boxes then jumbo and falcon together. Thank again!
@@RicPuzzles You're welcome 😀🧩
Hej Ric 🙂 and a scary Halloween to you 🎃🎃🎃. We have several Heyes and I think we can concur with your observations regarding quality. And I agree that some of the cartoonists the brand features, draw pictures that squarely belong in the adult section. Something that has bothered me because when we began buying puzzles in hauls, we didn’t fully study the images before buying the things. Now I scan them with a loupe. The Heye you have, is especially unsettling, but even kinder themes have unsavoury bits here and there. Puzzles by Loup, Blachon, Ryba and Degano, all have in common amazing draftsmanship, ingenious design, and a touch of the misogynistic. Sometimes more than a touch and it ruins the effect. The first three artists are all death and it could be argued that they were men of their time, having been born in the 30’s and 40’s. Another time, when lack of respect for women passed for comedy. Excuse the rant. It just bugs me, although not enough to give them away. Art and its appreciation is complex and ignoring or erasing the record doesn’t help anyone. Anyway, you did well. Large puzzles are very challenging. We are working on another Heye as we speak; it’s called Trafalgar, has 2000 pcs, and we’re stumped. I’m sorry yours was missing pieces. It is always a bummer.
hehe same to you mate! Happy Halloween!!!
Hi Ric, I love the puzzle. it's so vibrant and sexy! sorry to hear you don't feel comfortable being on camera here. I know your other works and love all of what you do, but you do what is best for you, I will continue to watch anyway, your videos are on another level. so funny you said 'relaxing BS', I giggled away.

It was an awesome puzzle. Sorry it had 2 missing pieces. Also, thank you for link the puzzles I gave you as a gift. It was a nice puzzle. Anyways, keep up the good work. I did send you some pictures for the new puzzle room. I hope you enjoy it. It is still simple and I need wall decoration. But I’ll get there.
Thank you so much mate! Yes i still think the puzzles you sent have been very very special to me. I will be forever grateful! Hope the house is going well, again the images are stunning!
I own 2 x 2000 piece Heye puzzles by artists Doro Göbel and Peter Knorr called Super Hero Movie and Sherlock & Co (Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman modern day version). They are very fun to look at with so much detail. However, I do have an issue with them being in a triangular box because it makes them awkward to store.
Oh thats really cool! I just checked them out on google, look really fun indeed! Haha yeah the triangular box is a miss for me too, same as the bepuzzled puzzles, the boxes make it impossible to store 😂
Very clever and thrifty. I’ve been taping closed the plastic bags that came with the puzzle, but this is so much better! Thank you for posting this.
oh thank you so much for checking this out mate! I just made another 20 or so bags the other day with a $2 very fancy cotton bedsheet from a secondhand shop! they look 1M bucks hahah glad you like the idea!
@@RicPuzzles OMG, you just blew my mind - it didn’t even dawn on me to use something non-tee (although they will make great drawstrings). I was just going through our linen closet and was about to throw out some old sheet sets. Hubby has a new project, lol.
I will miss your handsome face, but I will still watch your videos.
oh thank you! im so awkward doing talking head videos, :-)
