    Damn, Meg, you're making unspeakable progress... but the winter was faster... Oh, Canada is one of the winter-iest countries of the world.. except Siberia probably.. Ha, I know how is it to work in winter.. If you get also some wind (like at my place, which reaches hurricane speed no sweat), then you have a perfect recipe to die of hypothermic exhaustion... Anyway, it's looking very good, the only trouble will be keeping the snow off the roof.. It gets pretty heavy by the minute when snowing. Cheers, keep it going to set up at least the house, so you can use it. =)

    Those containers need to be off the ground or you'll be facing problems with condensation and rust. Not immediately, but it is in your future. Hiw do you plan on getting the water off the top of the containers? It will run off the tarp and collect on top of the roofs and not drain... until they leak into the interior eventually. This is a temp solution, but a proper solid roof over both containers and the open space will be a solution in the summer.

    I wonder if you could've used to the skid steer to lift this up just a tad instead of bottle jacks. hmmm. I never really gave any thought about how much a manufactured home would weigh but I'd imagine considerably less than a conventional building.

    It's good but the snow will collect on the roofs. You might like to clean off the roofs by having to climb up. When you get the wind it should pass through OK.

    something to think about : A big tarp hung from the one end to keep the wind from blowing straight through. It will help to keep rain/snow out of the area, as well as help to keep what little heat gets trapped to stay in there. Also, along the same lines, At the front of the shelter, get 2 smaller tarps to hang and act as doors, for the same reason. Also, to keep your trailer a little warmer under there, buy some bales of hay, and stack them around the bottom of it. Or some foam sheet insulation and tuck tape. That will keep any breezes from "robbing" any heat that is able to be trapped under there, Especially if you then put a couple of incandescent (Not LED) 100W light bulbs under there to provide some cheap heat.

    Great shelter, but why are you keeping the travel trailer under it? I assume you have a good reason, but it's not obvious to me--maybe because I'm from the southern US where we get a couple of inches of snow once every few years. Is it just for when you're walking in and out of the trailer, or is the trailer itself not rated for the snow, or something else? Love your channel!

    • @Meg.August
      @Meg.August 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Great question! Where we live (BC, Canada) we can get multiple feet of snow over the course of the winter and lots of rain. This is a 4-season trailer however you still have to remove the snow off the roof. Although this shelter would have been great throughout the summer for shade, it's more so to protect the travel trailer from the weather as we will be storing it on our property once we move into the manufactured home. Thanks for watching and so glad you're enjoying the videos! Happy New Year!

    Ferro/Mesh Crete the roof. It will make it more permanent, and increase it's rigidity. If it was me, I would FerroCrete the interior of the fabric, and allow it to cure, then MeshCrete the exterior to lock it in. Once the inside is FerroCreted, the frame will be properly supported, so you won't have as much concerns about the snow load, or weight. You can also FerroCrete a wall between the 2 containers blocking off one end giving more protection for your equipment and travel trailer. If you REALLY want to make it permanent and to protect it, FerroCrete the containers themselves. A friend was burying a container, but the walls aren't built for the side load, so we FerroCreted them with 3 layers over a month, let it cure for another month, then painted it all with tar to fully seal the walls and roof. Then we filled in the hole. As of 2017 he was still using it as his root cellar/storage/storm shelter in NW Arkansas. He moved to Montana to be near his grandkids, so as far as I know it's still there and working as it should since we buried it in 1991.

    Amazing teamwork! It makes the dream work!😉 I drove through northern BC on the ALCAN a couple times going to and from AK and MN. Beautiful area to live in. I’m surprised by all the peat bog stuff. You’ll have some great gardens eventually with all that moisture and nutrients in the ground. I can’t wait to see that part next summer. At least plant some test gardens? Wrapping a beat in tinfoil fresh from the ground and roasting it on the grill is the best. 👍
