  • Today, I'm attempting to restore a massive 36.5 foot smoked in travel trailer. This is one of the grossest jobs I've ever done..... if you have a weak stomach, you may want to skip through a few parts...

    OMG! This thing is HUUUUUGGGGEEEEE! It is bigger than my apartment, haha. You guys live in a beautiful part of the world. I can't mention this enough. Anyway, I was totally prepared to watch a new episode of MEGnificent Meg, you know, with a drink and food to start watching your video. Well, after seeing the video, I wasn't hungry anymore.
    I am so glad, like you also mentioned, that I have never touched a cigarette in my entire life. This must have been the most disgusting project you did. But where there's a Meg, there's a way to become happy at the end of the video. Enjoy this mobile villa and the upcoming vacation with your partner. Big X from your fan from the NL.

This was definitely the grossest project I've done lol but honestly, knowing how much of a difference it would make made it all worth it and we're going to thoroughly enjoy this 'yacht' this summer! Hope you're having a great week!

    Great work! But in the future,just a tip! Use foam and foam it down and let that soak for 10min or so,and rinse. If its not clean after that,then use the foambrush as last step. It makes the job to remove algae soo much easier. :)

    Got a little bad information for you worked on RVS and rebuilt RV's professionally for 9 years rebuilt my own RV's and let me tell you most RV's have wrought in them within the first three years because the fact rebuild does not properly seal them their computer sealed so if you want to keep your rv in good shape you have to get up there even when it's brand new and seal it with the proper good sealer which most of them are rubber roofs and there's two different kinds of rubber roofs so you have to get the proper sealer for the proper rubber roof if you use the wrong sealer it will burn it and stretch it the only way you can tell is if you have the book for the rv or from the color of the inside of the rubber one is white one is black you have to use a self leveling sealant for the roof and then a good silicone not cheap silicone on the seams on the walls They're not built to last because they wouldn't make any money if they did so trust me get up on the roof walk on it very carefully see where your rod is hopefully you got one with a winter package on the under case with the hard plastic or steel if it's got the perforated tarp type material when you drive water sprays up gets the installation wet and then you get mold on the floorboards underneath the trailer trust me I'm ripped out enough installations on RV trailers and it's really weird mold because it seems to like to eat particle board which your floors are made out of on all rb rentals that we had I had to rip out all the installation and we just ran them with no insulation because we didn't rent a motor in the winter I learned rvs were no good years ago before I even worked in an RV place and I bought a school bus and changed it into a motorhome because school busses are all metal so you got one thing good right fiberglass on the outside rv's is a good thing because most of fiberglass rvs have metal studs so good luck I found even rebuilding rvs that have got rod in them once you start replacing you don't stop never ending job If you see any leaks in the colors or the sealant it's too late And if you're gonna cook in an RV with propane and heat it with propane make sure you get yourself a very good dehumidifier

    A tip from Germany for you Americans: Use washing powder for cleaning textiles, pour two large cups of it into a bucket full of warm water, then use a mop with a telescopic pole and start scrubbing the ceiling. The surfactants in the detergent dissolve the nicotine dirt very easily and at the same time more cost-effectively than all other detergents.

    Oyyyy, Meg, today you hit me in the hurting spot... If there is one thing I can't stand is some musky smell, grimey, yellowish, sticky disgusting smoked place, caked in tar-like thowing-up inducing shit... 🤮 This should be a waking call for all smokers out there.. If this is what a wall looks like, everybody, think of a smoker's lungs..directly inhaling in the millions of lung "stomatas" (I don't know the name of lung bubbles, actually stomatas are plant breathing mechanism). No wonder those get clogged badly resulting in breathing defficiency and illnesses.. 😒 You did the right thing in young years, absolutely something to cheer about!
    Good job though, it looks better already at a glance.. Well, you will have to use more elbow grease and that magic solvent to get it right. Good luck, cheers and keep on. Don't forget the trailer measures also, keep in mind it's pretty big..😉

    • @Meg.August
      @Meg.August  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So.... did a quick check on TSP.... turns out it is not exactly safe or environmentally friendly...
    What Risks are Associated with Trisodium Phosphate?
    A toxic substance, TSP can be harmful if swallowed, and exposure to it (in granular or diluted form) can cause serious eye injury and skin irritation. Personal protection equipment (PPE), including long pants and sleeves, waterproof gloves, goggles, and a respirator, should be worn when preparing and using TSP
    Up until the late 20th century, trisodium phosphate was a common ingredient in household cleaners and detergents, but negative environmental impact led to strict limitations on its use. Phosphate runoff into lakes and rivers was found to trigger algae overgrowth, depleting oxygen in the water and endangering fish, animals, and aquatic plants.
    Now TSP is no longer included in most commercial products, and its sale remains banned or restricted in various states and cities (consult your state’s environmental protection agency, health department, or department of natural resources’ water quality division for local laws).
    TSP can damage some common surfaces in and around the home; particularly vulnerable are bathroom fixtures such as faucets, pipes, shower/tub enclosures, and drains. Its high alkalinity can etch glass, mirrors, and ceramic tile, as well as darken and corrode aluminum, chrome, and other metals. TSP eats away at grout and shouldn’t be used for general cleaning on painted wood.
    Take care around foliage when using TSP outdoors. Opt for a windless day if possible, and hose down landscaping, before and after use, to avoid exposing and potentially damaging plants.

    • @Meg.August
      @Meg.August  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for this info! I definitely should have been wearing a mask and gloves, it’s very important to be safe around chemicals regardless if they’re biodegradable or not

    As a lifelong contractor, I LOVE TSP for sooo many different uses!!! You could save yourself a lot of $, though, by getting a generic spray bottle at the Dollar Store and buying a small box of powdered TSP at Home Depot and mix it to your own desired strength. Now it's more concentrated than pre mixed and you have a 2nd spray bottle, so you don't have to do it all by yourself!!!

    • @gerbil7771
      @gerbil7771 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No kidding, I've always bought the little milk carton of it to use before painting and that makes gallons on concentrate mix for the same price of one bottle. 10$ CAD seems to be the going price for the spray bottle and I can't find the cartons.

  • @earlbrown
    @earlbrown 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    For the amount of squirting you're having to do, it might be worth it to get a bug sprayer. Get the cheaper granular TSP and mix up your own.
    And check the date code on those tires. Trailer tires like to explodes every few years completely unexpectedly. Full tread on those tires aren't the same as looking at car tires.

    • @Meg.August
      @Meg.August  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the tips! And yes definitely gave those tires a good check to look for damage, sun rot, etc. they looked good!

    • @earlbrown
      @earlbrown 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Meg.August That's the problem with trailer tires. They LOOK good (right until the 'splode).
      You really need to look at the date codes and see how old they are.
      The problem is they sit for long periods of time in one place. And moisture can seep into a very small 'crack' and get the steel belts wet and make a small divot in them.
      Then when you finally start towing that belt starts bending back and forth until there's an internal failure. (think: bending a coat hangar back and forth until it breaks).
      Not trying to scare you, but when tires let go at speed, they tend to tear up the trailer they're connected to.

    Do *YOU* Know the Difference between having a ( DREAM ) and then it becoming a certified * N I G H T M A R E * ???? (If) the answer is *NO* then this should help YOU going forward. Time is the Concept of being able to *TRACK* Events. ANYONE can have a DREAM while awake *YET* as soon as it is ( A C T E D ) Upon - EVERYTHING - Literally Changes. Like a Budget of say 5000 bucks. Unless you directly have Three times that in reserve along for this PURCHASE as a EMERGENCY / Disaster - Piggy bank of FUNDS that are solely Dedicated ( ALL ELSE ) will then Be a Master plan of NEVER EVER going to do something So stupid and impulsive and thinking MONEY grows on trees...
    SMOKERS are NOT KIND in any regards to products, surfaces, or the environment to be quite honest. Side Bar here. We were asked to Upgrade a place that two had occupied as smoker for a period of time. Just throw on some paint and get \some glade or Lysol or Febreze and spray away the disgusting fumes and residues it all came crashing down too. The First coat ( OR ) Attempt to put paint on the walls was met with INSTANT ( BLEED through ) as some water color kids play set might have used. The Version of KILZ in the oil Base version was then tried. It only began a Cover up yet as it dried To shown through was still underneath too. A second full coat of Oil Based Primer sealer was applied. Then the first coat \of paint followed by another that truly should have been TWO more making 6 total to get what many expected one to do as with most common issues. The carpet guys had to wear Vapor Maske to rip out the stained and soaked interior coverings before stating. We are un-able to continue with the previous arrangement stated. The owners / sellers wanted more info before simply blowing it off. We all sort of laughed when the BUSINESS Head honcho said LOUDLY ( YOU ) are not able to Pay for all that would need to be done here today ! ! ! HIS expert recommendation. Gut the entire place. Taking it right down to the studs and Framing members. Then have it Sprayed and sealed much like what ( WE ) were tasked with to get a Firm Grasp of what ever else was still there. They Wanted a Second and third opinion. A few local places not only stated a few month waiting list bitt also based on there own Understanding of the situation. WOULD NT Ever be able to Give a warranty or Other such product conditions that the manufacturer would normally say is included. They proclaimed. a Above and beyond Deposit along with 40 to 60 % increases in services rendered would be the very minimal they could possibly consider.
    (IF) you are not of a solid Belief that these things too will come back to BITE YOU !?!?!?
    Roll the dice and ( I ) swear IF there ever was a time to change your name, location, and also country as to who can come after you ??? This would be considered a Witness Protection Program Triple GOLD Star ( CUASE ) for review too.

    Why didn´t you use a Steam cleaner, you only need a fraction of the time to clean any surface. In this case - which is exactly what I did - I can only recommend a chlorine cleaner. And you will reach every corner whithout any harm. However, steam cleaners may be banned in the USA and Canada. Many people in Europe use them. You even can get second hand cleaners for small money.
    Kärcher is a good address. They don't just produce pressure washers!

    How is it towing with a 1/2 ton truck?

    • @Meg.August
      @Meg.August  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The only way it’s possible with this half ton is because it’s a heavy duty package with higher payload and towing, otherwise it would be illegal with a regular half ton! And honestly, it’s still pretty sketchy

    I had a friend (passed sadly) who bought a building that had been a bar/ nightclub for many years. The place had been boarded up for several years. The owner that ran the bar died of a heart attack and wasn't found for several weeks. This was south Florida during the summer, so you can use your imagination....if you dare. A homeless person had set fire to the storeroom in the back and filled the place with smoke from plastic jugs.
    We cracked the plywood off the front door, and my friend started to gag. Tobacco smoke, stale beer, sweat, urine, dead body, and finally, the fire smell slapped us like a brick bat!
    It was a shame. It was a pretty nice building. We got jumpsuits, respirators, gloves, and boots. After a week, we realized we were in WAY over our heads. He spread the cash and got that pro company that advertises to do it.
    After they were done, it was great! The only time there was any odor was on those hot, humid days, and it was closed up for a few days. It might have just been our imagination.
    Less than a year later, Hurricane Andrew cleaned up the mess permanently.
    But ever since then, i have hated cleaning houses.
    Cheers
    Terry

    Ah, I was thinking from the title that there had been a small interior fire so was expecting ash/carbon dark black walls and ceilings, but beginning to wonder if that's much worse than 'just nictoitne' stains. I'm a smoker, have been for 32 years, but remember when I part exchanged my first car for the second at the Ford dealer, I decided I'd clean it as best I could, and using anti static foam cleaner in the plastics, the indicator/windscreen wiper stalks were coated in crap and yellow stating on trims that I stopped smoking when driving and hardly smoked much at all, but then was stuck in traffic by Birmingham (England's second largest city), and thought sod this and sparked a cig up, and sadly never stopped for any decent length of time since, but this will certainly help me slow down a little. That cleaner you used looks good, what is it? I was thinking if this was me try steam cleaning, but your cleaner seems better, but would try shampooing carpets, and going over with steam cleaner and then wet vacuuming after, you can get carpet/ car interior shampoo's with enzymes in to kill bacteria and helps get rid of odours. That was hugely satisfying to watch, especially as I wasn't cleaning 🤣but in all seriousness, that has inspired me to doing some though cleaning of my car, house etc.

    • @Meg.August
      @Meg.August  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You know that's a good point, I honestly wonder what would be worse - small interior fire damage or cigarette smoke damage... The cleaner I used was Solvable brand TSP. It worked very well! It does leave a bit of a chalky residue so I gave everything a secondary wipe down with some diluted Dr Bronner's soap and now everything is squeaky clean. I'm glad this video inspired you to clean!! It honestly is such a great feeling getting a space cleaned and freshened up!😊

    Saturday's with Meg, what could be better? When I saw the trailer in the "trailer" (see what I did there) my first thought was this is where we will be living while working on the new property. Nope, This was a financial move and a smart one at that Congrats on the find this should really be a win in the end. As per usual you make hard work look fun, can't wait to see what you're up to next.

    Very interesting project 👍 Big and spacious travel trailer, I can imagine it's very comfortable place to be in a holiday. A lot to clean too, but the result is very visible and satisfying. Most likely indeed makes nice profit when you sell it, if you want to even sell it after all ;)
    My parents had caravan trailer in the 80's - 90's, much smaller though, but it was still fun way to travel around in summer holidays. Saab 99 and Opel Kadett E served as a towing cars for it, so when the caravan trailer was parked at camping area, it was easy to drive around in the car for sightseeing, shopping, etc.
