    thanks for the video. Im in the process of joining up with a team that supports the National Guard in California. Its through the Cal State Guard. I always consider myself pretty fit my whole life, but Im in my 50s now. My recruiter told me the prerequisite to join this hotshot crew is to be able to carry 45 lbs in a backpack and do 3 miles in 45min....no running or else disqualified. I really thought that shouldn't be a problem. But out of curiosity, at the gym I set the treadmill to 4 miles an hour - which would be equal to 3 miles in 45 minutes. Geez! That is a freaking fast pace. I understand the necessity to weed out people who probably wont be able to hang out in the field. Now I have some doubts about myself, but I am training. I have the pace down but will need to practice with a weighted backpack next. I guess if I can do it, then I should be up to the physical challenge. This vid helps because I realize that the test is completely necessary with 45lbs.

      I didn’t purchase my sled with the plastic pads but they hold on by recessed screws so the screws won’t scratch the surface floor I always recommend that people purchase the sled with the pads in case you need them or like them, they are not much more money since you are already buying the sled.

    Ex shot member back in 03 and 04 modoc nat forest primarily, good to see a gear rundown video, I remember my pack was roughly 35 to 40 lbs somewhere in that ball park I believe, most of my weight was my camelback then extra water bottles, upper pocket carried usually min 2 saw chains for Sawyers, saw file, flat file for my polaski , head lamp and spare batteries , ribbon for hazards or markings, 2 flares, lighter, boot laces, bugz safety glasses, sunscreen, pen and notebook, moleskin for blisters, another incident notebook with frequencies and all that jazz for air to ground and other info, fire map of the incident and emergency blanket for warmth- very good to have! In main part mres/ or sack lunch, beanie, spare socks, on my hip had a Gerber Leatherman tool side pouch pocket on pants granola bar or chips for energy, other side pocket, sometimes baby powder for skin chaffing.... it does happen and suuucks! Great review, thank you! I've been watching a few other vids on this specific sled, the vertical bars seem great for pushing on cement and I think you mentioned they work for pulling too. Can I confirm that? I plan to push and pull this sled, sometimes with straps and sometimes just by hand with the bars. Some reviews on the rogue site also report this sled gets stuck a lot when pushing on softer surfaces like grass, any truth to those claims in your experience? Thank you!

    • @PREPANDDEFEND
      @PREPANDDEFEND ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the bars work well for pushing, for pulling, you will need to use the strap that come with it

    • @PREPANDDEFEND
      @PREPANDDEFEND ปีที่แล้ว

      And because the sled is so much shorter and compact that others, it can get stuck or dog in if your hands are placed too high on the bars while pushing with the bars. I’ve never had an issue on any surface when using the pull strap.
