Fiat 500 Convertible boot release not opening How to reset & fix if button not working in car or key
Today we have a typical fault of a Fiat 500 convertible boot release button not working leaving no access to the boot area, often the mechanism itself can fail, the wiring can also be damaged or the body control module (BCM) can fail. If you have tried all of these components & its still not working then you may need to perform this reset - Also this reset often needs to be performed after replacing the BCM or after reflashing the BCM, after the battery has been replaced or in some cases after keys programmed to the vehicle!
If your boot release button is not working in your Fiat 500 convertible - TRY THIS FIRST before you start wiring tests or replacing the BCM, this video just might save you a lot of time, hassle & money!
Please note this procedure is only for the convertible model, the hardtop Fiat 500 often has problems with wiring, release mechanisms & BCM faults, if you need to replace the BCM on a Fiat 500 they are programmed to the vehicle - if you require this service please click on the link below to our website:

Thanks a lot for this great tutorial , i’m planning to swap an M57N2 EDC16CP35 from a 335d into a 320d that have an N47 with EDC17 , there will be some repinning on the ecu body connector to match the edc16 as per the wiring diagrams, however will changing the isn and vin will make the engine run ? Or do I need to buy a complete ECU/CAS/Key kit ? (I’m avoiding this solution tbh and only want to swap the ecu)
@@Minorock93 That sounds like a challenge! To change the ECU by ISN number it would first need to have the same length ISN, earlier ECUs had a short ISN & later had long ISN, I’m not totally sure without having the units on the bench but I’m pretty sure EDC16 are short ISN & EDC17 are long, if so then it’s not possible as far as I can say, also they would both need to be manual gearbox variants as Auto boxes also have ISN on later models.. a bit of a can of worms for you I’m afraid, I don’t like advising ECU kits at all but this may be best in your case..
@JC-ECUConnection Thanks a lot for the quick reply and for the precise information, Since there will be a problem adding the long ISN to the EDC16 I think the easiest solution is the entire ECU kit unless there’s another way around, i’m not seeing any 🤔

The level of needless complexity is disappointing. I hope European right to repair regulations move its auto industry I. The same directions as phones.
@@samgod Yes, car companies have indeed made things complex & difficult to repair modern vehicles.. Thankfully for us the EU has helped enormously - Firstly the rule that forced car manufacturers to fit a standard OBD 16 pin Diag socket enables us to actually plug into a vehicle, also there is the rule on access to vehicle data, without that then we would have to send all jobs to dealership.. It’s not perfect but it helps, hopefully these laws will be renewed when the next review is due, sadly (For obvious reasons) the U.K. no longer has a voice on the subject 😏

What would have caused the original ecu to become corrupted?
@@ConesuelaLadyTailor Hi & thanks for watching!.. It’s hard to say what causes data corruption in EEPROMS, it can happen from flat batteries, especially when they have been flat for extended periods, jump starting can be a cause - voltage surges etc, sometimes they just randomly fail. I have seen corruption happen from people trying to remap cars and on clusters & BCM modules it can happen by people trying to read PIN codes or attempting mileage correction, on this job as it was bought with the fault it was a complete mystery!
I think Module issues will be one of the main reasons for cars being written off in the future as manufacturers provide less and less support. Classic cars etc will be a whole new game in years to come. Well done and I’m sure you’ll only get busier.
@@davyarthurs Thanks & yes indeed, I fully agree! Many faults on vehicles are due to data faults, hopefully we can keep future classics alive for all our enjoyment!!
Awesome vid. Quick question. My f82 recently had an ECU replaced. It starts, remote works, drives normal. However, the infotainment does not have the M menu options, nor does it show bluetooth, and there is no audio through the speakers, steering controls also don't work. I believe this may be a coding issue. Is that normal? Is there an additional step after ECU cloning that is needed to be done to get all the factory options back?
@@shaazy Hi & thanks for watching! - Firstly have you had only the ECU replaced?, if so how - cloning or by adapting ISN? - if done by cloning then no, there shouldn’t be any follow up procedure - if done by ISN transfer then yes, you will need to perform final coding & preferably software update. If however you have fitted an ‘ECU kit’ then personally I would put it all back to original & get the ECU cloned or ISN transferred - it’s too messy to try to instal kits on modern vehicles!
@@JC-ECUConnection Thank you so much for the response. The workshop that did the work had it done by someone else in a different country, the ECU was ordered to them, then imported, installed and handed me the car. When I received the car, I noticed that all the previous factory options were no longer available, and having played with INPA, Tool32, and NCSExpert from my e93 335i days, I figured it was a coding error. So I'm gonna go with ISN transfer. So in its current form, would you suggest just adding those missing SA option codes via E-sys is the way to go? That doesn't hurt anything in the replaced ECU, does it?
@@shaazy I can’t see why these items are not working if just the engine ECU was replaced by adapting the ISN, these shouldn’t be affected - I would check the VIN numbers to ensure a kit hasn’t been fitted, then start changing the codings after..
@@JC-ECUConnection Got it. I don't think there's an ECU Kit in there but I did scan the car, and under 'Car Information Computer', I get the code: 026308 "HU-B: No Current Coding Data Stored". This is a 2016 m4. Does that hint at something?
@@shaazy if it isn’t a kit that’s been fitted then it looks like the coding has been wiped somehow from that module, I would see if you can re-code it

@@phillwilliams3399 I make a back up of the codings of the ori FEM, once the Immo data is cloned onto the donor, the ori codings will need to be transfered as well, sometimes these can be a bit of an ass to write back in, remember to power down the unit & switch on again, this usually works..
