  • Do you need to replace a faulty transponder antenna (Coil) on a VW group car? if so you will of found out that they are fixed to the lock barrel & cannot be removed - VW only supply a complete lock barrel with the antenna already installed, this unfortunately means that you will also be supplied a new ignition key cut at random that will be different from your car door - not convenient! Don’t worry - We have the solution! Simply use our transponder antenna remove & refit service we can remove your faulty antenna from your lock barrel, then we will remove without damaging your replacement antenna from your donor lock barrel (Either new or secondhand) & then fit your donor antenna to your original lock barrel. Your original lock barrel will then be returned to you in just a few days with your new antenna installed so your original key can be used to start the car.
    Here is our full guide on how to remove the ignition lock barrel from the steering lock, an easy DIY job, all you will need is a piece of wire apx 1- 1.5 mm diameter (Large paperclip or wire coathanger is ideal)

    Very useful thanks for sharing. I found electrical wire wasn't stiff enough., but, luckily my other half sews so I managed to find a large sewing needle that did the job,

    I’m getting the following message on my Leon;
    Starter system faulty see workshop!
    Starts and runs fine stop start works as it should.
    Car battery is original and 10 years old now
    Unsure if I need a new battery or if it’s ignition switch related?
    One thing I’ve noticed is that when I turn the car off it runs until I pull the key and I can’t for the life of me remember if it did that before or if it turned off engine before pulling key?

      @@R55LSD Hi and thanks for watching!, sounds like the ignition switch is faulty if it still runs with the ignition switched off. Firstly I would plug in a diagnostic scanner & check the live data readings from the ignition switch & move forward from there..

    Hello. I changed the housing that holds the ignition switch and lock barrel. When I try to re insert lock barrel, I put key in, turned to on position, insert lock barrel but can’t get it to click or lock in place. Key stays in on position. I’m thinking it’s the $30 Amazon part that’s the problem. Maybe I need to buy the housing from a better site? I just can’t get lock barrel with the key in it to fully seat and click in. Goes in almost ol the way but won’t click in. Thoughts?

    Hi, is it possible to remove the antenna safely using a vise? I don't have that tool that fits the ignition barrel and also don't live in the UK to bring it by the shop. My original antenna doesn't read my key anymore. Only when I place a 2nd antenna close to the key in the ignition I can start the car.

      Hi, no I wouldn’t try to remove it with a vice, if you are in Europe we can do this job for you no problem, our services are IOSS compliant & can do it by post, for more information please view our website: www.ecuconnection.co.uk

    So when you replace ignition antenna don’t you have to program it so it connects with the chip in the key?
