Hey I am planning to Pursue, MSC in HR next year in UK. Can you help me understand how the Job Market is specially for International students. Would it be a wise decision to study in UK, are there enough internships & jobs after graduation. I do have 3 years of experience 1st year into Internships 2nd year as a trainee & 3rd year as a Full time HR Generalist with an agency Looking forward to hearing back from you.
@@pritikulkarni4117 Hi Priti, hope you are well. When you study here on an international visa, you can work part time 20h a week and then stay up to 2 years without sponsorship (perhaps you could find a 2 year fixed term role) You then need to find a sponsor to stay. Job market is always competitive but with a good strategy and plan, it’s possible. Many want permanent jobs so your immediate situation will perhaps put you in a better position. Hope this helps.

I always wanted to work in HR. Do you need to have a masters degree in HR or certifications?
@@simplylittleglam it’s not essential. Many do additional courses but not needed. It does look good on your CV though as it shows commitment to the profession. I would consider finding roles in operational HR and then move from there

Hey mam your videos are really good! I need your advice, recently i did Master in human resource and joined a company they newly started a role of Human resource business partner and they hire 3 young fresher me and my collides but they not hired HRBP manager in this situation they assigned a person who didn't no idea about human resourses, she doesn't idea about what HRBP do so last three months we did many wrong things one day our boss ask me what you three did in past three months i said what we did but the boss said who said to do this really HRBP do this kind of role and boss said worst team i met our manager stay quiet when boss raise questions, so please guide me how to be successfull business partner in my organization i hope this comment will reach you i will wait for your reply mam.
This is a difficult and unfair position to find yourself in. Especially as you are developing in the role as well. If you are keen to stay where you are, it’s best to set up a meeting with the boss - who asked about progress. You could simply say, “further to our conversation, I would welcome another opportunity to discuss how to improve things. I suggest we discuss what you would like to see as well as my suggestions as to how improve things.” Something along these lines will do. You also said you all report to a manager who isn’t HR experienced. You do need to raise this point too. I would also set up a meeting with the manager in questions and simply say you are keen to help and improve things and discuss what your objectives could be. Be professional and simply helpful. If you decide to leave, then I hope this has been a lesson for you to ask all sorts of questions. Especially about the HR structure, plans etc Hope this helps. This is what I would do. Anything is better than staying silent. You will be seen as proactive and helpful.
@@SanjaWilliams mam I can't meet my boss because I m fresher so other existing HR didn't allow me to meet a boss also i can't leave in this organisation because I am fresher i joined my company three months ago If I leave that my profile got sever damage I had only option to do stay that organisation atleast more then one year and to make changes in the organisation as Human Resource Business Partner but I don't know where to start, because existing manger said to my team to take care of House keepings activities, that makes me why I should I study 20 years of education in India it make me sick every day i went to my office i studied for this only it's make me depressed, i got 7 months internship I feel very happy on that period because my HR mentors really great that things make me feel I want to become good HR now facing this kind issue i couldn't mange this thing if I raise my voice they try to terminate please guide me to get out this situation
@@Srikeshvu I see, so you work in a very hierarchical team. Here you go a couple of things to learn how to manage upward/people around you: 1. have a meeting with your immediate manager to agree objectives and expectations if possible to avoid any confusion 2. ask them how they would like to work with you, how to report progress etc (is it a weekly meeting, or an email update for example) 3. every time you meet with them and you have a meeting, summarise what you discussed and agreed. So for example, "let me summarise for my notes, you would like me to focus on x, y , z" 4. always ask for a deadline, when they expect your work to be completed by. Again this is to avoid any confusion, if you need more time, simply ask for it and explain what has happened, what you have put in place and your suggested deadline. 5. be brave to suggest solutions and ideas. Simply say "I have been thinking about x, y, z, I am keen to get your feedback." Always seek to collaborate and partner. Be helpful at the end of the day could be your line. Hope this helps for now and the next year flies by to find some else in due course unless things improve where you are.
@@SanjaWilliams i did first three things with my manger she doesn't have idea about HRBP and who is HR she said "take care of House keeping team and maintain plants cleaned make the gang way cleaned this two things majorly mentioned otherwise if I ask any questions don't raise questions against me, I stuck in this situation mam, please considering situation your working xyz manufacturing company as HRBP and I'm an junior of your team what kind of tasks you given to me for tommorow I need this kind of help

Hello. Thank you for your comment. Congratulations on the new role 🎉 I hope it goes well. Happy to share more in case you have any specific questions. You can email me on info@focusyourself.co.uk
Can i say workplace planning and Succession planning are same?
Hi. They aren’t the same but succession planning should contribute to a workforce planning process. Workforce planning - which can be operational or strategic - is all about business demand and supply of resources, succession planning identified key roles and critical people. Both process are rarely done properly in many organisations as HR in the U.K. often expect a business to drive it and they don’t have time so it gets ignored.
hello are you still active on here?
Hi. I am not publishing for now but planning to get back to it. Did you have any specific questions? You can always email on info@focusyourself.co.uk happy to help.

Hi Karoline, first of all congratulations on doing your master's degree. I assume it is in HR. If not, what have you chosen to focus on? In order to work in HR, there is no essential and formal requirements, although people do complete courses, often study for a degree in HR etc which does help and looks good on your CV. I have recently taken over this role. Just landed up on your channel and finding it useful, thanks. QQ- As a HRBP we get a lot of unscheduled calls in between, how do you manage your focus and also how do you prioritize and accomplish deliverables / tasks for the day?
Hi, random calls to you from managers or employees will depend on which HR operating model you work in. So if you have shared services, HR operations in place who deal with initial queries, then those calls need to go them to respond to or emails to respond to. In large organisations, managers and employees need to raise a ticket in the system. If there is no such thing in place where you are, then you need to re-contract with your allocated business areas as to what they need to contact you for. Try to do some analysis as to what they contact you about it and produce FAQs docs or links or information you can provide. Also, try to schedule an hour of each day to review and respond to emails or missed calls. You dont have to answer it as soon as they call you. If you have teams, perhaps they can drop messages there and you can respond when you have allocated the slot each day to do this. This work is viewed as reactive and I can see why you wouldn't want to do it. How big is the HR function you work in? Large organisations are great at this, small to medium you can expect all sorts of things to do you would never do in a large organisation that is set up properly.

How can an employee who wants to be on another’s succession plan get on the radar to be considered for the role when the person in the role moves on?
They need to raise this with their manager and/or their HR Business Partner/HR manager to represent further and ensure it is on a relevant succession plan. If is there a talent/career profile section in your HR, then it needs to be stated there too. Do you do regular succession plan reviews at your work place?
@@SanjaWilliams To answer your question at the end, I don't know. However, I am an external corporate coach, so I was coaching another career professional on this and it was my first time interacting with this topic. Going to HR is a good first step it sounds like.
@@JenKumar I agree. They need to state what they are interested in. So if their organisation conducts regular talent reviews and succession planning, their name should be mentioned and skills/experience and aspiration discussed. Many organisations aren’t great at this btw
@@SanjaWilliams It's too bad that many organizations aren't good at this... Well I can understand how easy it is to get caught up into the day to day business and miss this opportunity. That is what it is- an opportunity. There is so much wisdom that goes untapped due to this I can imagine.

Hello Sanja ! Thank you for this video. I am really interested in HR and I wanted to know if I can just start with a CIPD ? I just have an A-Level in Secretary and a one year validate English Licence. But after a long pause in my professional career I am really interested in the HR wolrd now. I live in the Uk. Please what do you suggest I should start with ?
Absolutely. I would start applying for HR apprenticeship schemes, you get to work, earn money and get qualifications paid for. Could you afford you start at a lower salary as you build your career?
@@SanjaWilliams Ooooh yes that’s sounds like an amazing idea ! And yes no problem for the lower salary as long as I do something I am very interested.
@@sharon.l7465 Good luck, check out EON, and larger companies.

Utterly impressive! Thanks for sharing!
I really like your painting 🖼 where did you get it from?
It is a shop in England called Next. This was bought nearly 15 years ago, so not sure if you can still find it. There are many options if you look for a couple walking together you will get some ideas.

Please suggest me how ro get sponsored job in uk im on students visa for master of HRM
Hello, if you are already in the UK, you can work 20h a week. Check your visa, so look for part time jobs instead. See if there are any part time jobs at your Uni. Once you graduate, I understand people from India can stay for up to 2h without sponsorship. Are you already here? Please note I am not an immigration adviser.

Hello sanja! I have done my mba in hr and worked for 8 months and currently want to study in uk in labour law...will it be useful??
Hello. Where did you find labour courses in the UK? Over here we call it employment law and employee relations where employment law and best practice is followed and implemented.

I may have an offer for an HRBP role. I already have an MBA. Would any further specific education help me advance? Masters in HR? Other?
Hi, I hope the offer materialises soon. Congratulations in any event. If you already work in HR, have an MBA. I wouldn't do anything else for now. If you want and have time and money, then yes go for a master's in HR. Even psychology is a good combination. If you are in the UK you can complete CIPD courses and you have similar ones in the USA/Australia etc that are more HR specific. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more queries. Good luck.

Would you please clarify what do you mean (if family in place) is it the available replacment from family members as an example ? Thanks, so much
This is a great question. In terms of family members to inherit and run a business, you are a limited here in terms of options as it will go to a family member regardless, however, the same principles should apply if it is not clear to whom it should go. Assess if they have the right skills and behaviours required to run a business if not assist with training or simply find other people who they can rely on for their gaps. Is this something you are dealing with at the moment?

This role is an artificial ideological construct invented by David Ulrich a few years ago. This is one of the typical successfully promoted pseudo-useful consulting tricks. The key question is what exactly this so-called HR business partner is ACCOUNTABLE for and what decisions he/she has the right to make. The problem is that when they try to explain the role of HR in the organization, and in particular, the role of the so-called HR business partners, they forget to emphasize 2 things: 1) that it is managers, and not HR, who are accountable for the staff subordinate to them, that is, it is a manager (not HR) who is accountable for a) the working behavior and work results of their subordinates, b) the teamwork of subordinates, and c) the enthusiasm/engagement of subordinates. 2) any (not only HR) employee of an organization is, BY DEFINITION, obliged to partner with all stakeholders in the organization. Therefore, guys, PLEASE stop mindlessly repeating, like parrots, mantras about the HR in general and the HR business partners in particular. Turn on your heads and finally understand that you should not stupidly list the functions of these artificially created roles. Try to realize one single simple thing: EVERY HR specialist must be able to partner with all stakeholders in the organization. There should be not specially created "partner" roles in HR or finance, or logistics, or marketing, or in the legal department. If the employees of the organization do not know how or do not want to interact effectively, then no dedicated HR employee (whatever he/she is called) will solve this problem. Management and only management should be held accountable for this. And about HR, it's enough to simply say that 3 things are expected from ANY specialist in this field: professionalism in his/her function, business understanding and leadership (as from any other specialist in any other function in the organization).

Can you please create video couch training for 9 box performance matrix and tracking? Thanks
Will do, great suggestion to get me back on track with making videos. We all need to be aware of it as an employee and also as someone who may support this process as a manager or HR person.
