Americans who voted Trump don't seem to understand how tariffs work, They think other countries will be paying them when they send their goods over there. That's not how it works. it will be the American consumer who will foot that bill when the price of everything goes even higher.
Totally agree. Welcome to the American Brexit!
@@DrNewVegas Brexit was exactly what was going through my mind the last few days.
Aussie here, I’ve always said that even though our “Labor” Party is more centrist than left, many members of the Democratic Party would struggle to find themselves at home with the Labor Party, but would rather be at home with the right wing Liberal Party. Interesting fact too, the Australian Labor Party’s neoliberal turn in the 80s under Bob Hawke was the inspiration for the UK Labor Party removing Clause 4 and moving to the centre under Blair.
Yep. The UK Labour under Blairism has seen a cosying up to the Democrats in America, but I think many democrats wouldn't feel comfortable joining Labour. That's because at its roots, much like your Labor, its histories are rooted in the trade union movement. It's why, despite all their flaws (to which there are many), I'm still a Labour member and fight for Labour to stick to the working class. The democrats are not the same, as their roots do not belong to the labour movement.
Bruh you're point about the media attacking Trump is so bang on the head! They continue to use the same tired for over 5 years now and they're continue to use it for who knows how long. They will definitely do it even when he's out of office and it's the main reason why I'll continue to avoid seeing the news.
Its interesting because I've been listening to Americast recently (A BBC news podcast). Its been so refreshing to hear people talk about the problems of American people, rather than Trump himself. That's why they assumed he would win. It even got to the point where people started writing into the podcast saying “why aren't you attacking him?”. No, because that's not where the majority of Americans are thinking at the moment. Inflation, expenses and all the rest are far more important in this discussion. For once, the BBC did good!
@DrNewVegas that's a rare W for them. I might check them out
The problem with Trump is everything he embodies. For many, he's legitimised hating women, trans people and minorities. They have sold out their women's rights for the promise of cheaper gas which they probably won't even get.
When there's no meaningful difference between the parties all that's left is rhetoric. It's not even Coke vs Pepsi, it's Coke vs Diet Coke with the primary goal of both being to keep water off the table.
New small leftist youtuber? Yes please! And a fellow Brit! ❤
Nice to see ya!
Finally an analysis that isn’t either propaganda or part of an echo chamber. The only criticism I have is that the terms “left” and “right” are largely meaningless at this point. Look up statistics on how many Bernie voters switched to Trump in 2016 and 2020.
I agree the libs absolutely paved the way for trump to take power but... project 2025 is a conspiracy theory because trump said it had nothing to do with him? you're just taking that at face value? 25 out of 30 chapters were written by people who worked under trump also... like... project 2025: "GENDER POLICY COUNCIL (GPC) The President should immediately revoke Executive Order 1402041 and every policy, including subregulatory guidance documents, produced on behalf of or related to the establishment or promotion of the Gender Policy Council and its subsidiary issues. Abolishing the Gender Policy Council would eliminate central promotion of abortion (“health services”); comprehensive sexuality education (“education”); and the new woke gender ideology, which has as a principal tenet “gender affirming care” and “sex-change” surgeries on minors." trump: "on day one, I will revoke Joe Biden's cruel policies on so-called 'gender affirming care.' Ridiculous. A process that includes giving kids puberty blockers, mutating their physical appearance, and ultimately performing surgery on minor children. Can you believe this? I will sign a new executive order instructing every federal agency to cease all programs that promote the concept of sex and gender transition at any age. I will then ask congress to permanently stop federal taxpayer dollars from being used to promote or pay for these procedures, and pass a law prohibiting child sexual mutilation in all 50 states." project 2025: "Setting education policy on the right track long term would require sunsetting the U.S. Department of Education altogether. Doing so would not result in fewer resources and less assistance for children with special needs or from low-income families. Rather, closing the federal behemoth would better target existing taxpayer resources already set aside for these students by shifting oversight responsibilities to federal and state agencies that have more expertise in helping these populations" trump: "one other thing I'll be doing very early in the administration is closing up the Department of Education in Washington D.C. and sending all education and education work and needs back to the States. We want them to run the education of our children, because they'll do a much better job of it." project 2025: "Attacking the Accreditation Cartel For a college to participate in federal financial aid programs, it must be accred- ited, but accreditors have been abusing their quasi-regulatory power to impose non-educational requirements and ideological preferences on colleges. l The Secretary of Education should refuse to recognize all accreditors that abuse their power. l New accreditors should also be encouraged to start up." trump: "The accreditors are supposed to ensure that schools are not ripping off students and taxpayers, but they have failed totally. When I return to the White House, I will fire the radical Left accreditors that have allowed our colleges to become dominated by Marxist Maniacs and lunatics. We will then accept applications for new accreditors who will impose real standards on colleges once again and once and for all." the heritage foundation have had a pretty huge amount of sway within the republican party for a long time now and, while I doubt all of project 2025 will happen (I doubt they'll ban porn), he is absolutely working from their playbook, regardless of what he says
Hi mate. I don't know if you'll see this - but you're absolutely right. There is a dissmisal of an alienated class that was abandoned when the left shifted centre with blair and clinton. My PhD studies the role of conspiratorial reasoning in that regard, but an overwhelming amount of things have found are people that basically compare the status quo Vs 'something" that might be different. People just want change. What's interesting is that a lot of people I've spoken to (admittedly in the UK) totally hate the idea of neoliberal policies, and yet will vote for someone who is a representative of the kind of people that will benefit from them (ie trump, Johnson, Farage). Your channel is great and covering stuff like that! Please continue.
There is a cut through there that can be exploited if the right talking points are made! Best of luck with continuing your PhD! As a fellow ex-PhD student, I know how gruelling it can be 😂
the part about ashworth brought me to tears of laughter 🤣
Shit, don’t get Johnathon Ashworth to help you run a car park.
The Democrats created the monster Trump. Since Clinton in 1992 they have abandoned their core vote in the rust belt and then act surprised and indignant when the ultimate con man fools enough people into voting for the most right wing shift in American politics since Reagan was elected in 1980. His mission was to reverse the post war consensus by shrinking the state, cutting taxes for the rich, smashing the unions and privatisation. Just like Thatcher in Britain. Both succeeded beyond their wildest dreams in transferring wealth from the majority to the rich and converting the left to neoliberalism. Thatcher described 'new' Labour as her greatest achievement. The Democrats sold out the white working class and more recently black and hispanic voters yet are set to remain in denial until 2028 ( and beyond) blaming anyone and anything except themselves for the disaster they have authored. The party of blue collar labour transformed into the party of white collar liberal professionals opened up the space for MAGA extremism to take the neoliberal wrecking ball to new heights. Ayn Rand and Hayek would be delighted if they could see America in 2024.
Ayn Rand. Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time… you are totally correct in what you say. Continuing legacies and now accelerated. I read one of Rand’s plays once. One of the worst things I've read in a long time 😂
@@DrNewVegas Even some figures associated with the Blair era are starting to make noises about the implications of Trump's victory for UK politics in terms of a realignment of priorities and policies to tackle inequality to head off something similar happening here. Horse and cart spring to mind given the capitulation to neoliberalism under Blair and the purge of the left under Starmer precisely to preserve the status quo that is the root of every problem. It is hard to see how the red Tories could bring themselves to pivot to repudiating Thatcherism because it would be the undoing of their ideological certainty and rationale for being in politics. Perhaps John McDonnell should be put on notice there may be a vacancy to be Chancellor after all if he sticks around for a few more years! The law of unintended consequences might just see the left have its twenty first century moment just when it looked finished in Britain.
@@eightiesmusic1984 It's difficult because we're SO entrenched in neoliberal systems, all of which run on gross amounts of credit and debit, that to enact serious labour reform and equity promotion is to run the serious risk in the short term of financial ruin for millions. I predict a lot of pain and societal change over the next 10 years unfortunately, nothing good ever comes easy
@@Sam-uk4mb Capitalism needs to be regulated- neoliberalism has undone the guardrails that prevented inequality from running out of control due to the greed of the rich. George Monbiot's latest book The Invisible Doctrine explains how the insidious ideology has upended societies and the road map out of it.
Yeah I blame Ashworth
Who wouldn't? 😂
fundamentally as you said the people can't see money in the pocket and rising costs for food and gas plus trump being backed by a elon twitter ad overdrive. Sad reality is futher dissolution is ahead with trump eco policies
You are right. Dissolution will settle. Some will see reactionary elements, but the core group of workers will shift to politics that will help them and even get active out of it.
Cut taxes and print more money, very clever economics if his last term was anything to go by..Apathy towards the democrats policies was their biggest enemy, not the progressive left and AOC.The right wing is far better at right wing politics than democrats are
Like you say, It's a bipartisan issue really. Neither party are going to push back significantly against the interests of the big financial institutions/corporations that provide billions in funding to both parties. To enact a bernie Sanders style set of reforms and regulations is just a non starter- political suicide. The working class and those in poverty are suffering from the illusion of choice- The house always wins no idea how unions amass power and incite reform without some serious, awe inspiring change in the US. I get the feeling the country (and, by association, the world) is in for some serious pain over the next 10 years because once those at the bottom realise Trump wasn't the answer, there's going to be those who feel forced to take drastic measures.
Totally agree with what you say. The last point is important as the terrible policies might spur something within the unions to organise. People losing jobs, strike action, people walking out of jobs, demonstrations and even some violence might come out of it. The unions will have to go with that as they will be pushed against as well.
@@DrNewVegas it's just a shame that the neoliberal system is run on SO much debt and credit that a loss of company profits will metastasize throughout the economy and cause even more financial hardship and strife in the short term. And I guess that's by design; part of the reasoning for crushing austerity measures in Britain and Italy Post WW1 was ostensibly to 'balance the books', but really centered around the belief that unions were gaining dangerous amounts of traction and threatening a socialist takeover. And so the unions were painted as threats to the livelihood of the common man, unemployment was intentionally increased and hundreds of thousands were sent into financial ruin. All this to say- widespread societal change comes with a lot of strife, and we live in really precarious times. At the risk of coming across as trite: "There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen"--Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. J Hepatol.
You're quite correct
Thank you! I try sometimes.
So glad this channel has found me. I have no idea how the algorithms work, but I've seen my TH-cam recommends page turn into a wall of fascist propaganda, and I'm just a bit of a lefty who's into history, comedy, and motorbikes. Luckily I'm able to realise what's happening and try to ignore it, but I can see how so many people can get sucked in - like any cult, you start off slightly interested by some seemingly innocuous interview about eg TV licensing which seems to make some valid points, and before you know it you're being told all the reasons why Tommy and Nige are our saviours. When I tried actively looking for an intelligent view from the other side I found nothing, so I'm not sure why YT is recommending this channel to me now, but I'm very happy it did!
Hello friend! I am glad that the algo has found you. It's good to have you around. I don't know much about motorbikes, but I do know about, well some history! Yes, I get it a lot as well and I only follow lefty accounts. I do still watch it to keep me informed of what they are saying, though I often get a bit bored in their rants so I move on a bit 😂
I think this makes me even more nervous when we see how willing this labour government is to say one thing and do another. Even if they promise something good, we can't trust them to follow through with it at all and it all just adds to the frustrations i think most people have with our current situation. I know farage isn't perfect, and i can't trust him either, but at the moment, a new political party becoming popular like reform is a good thing for ordinary voters, we need to have a more competing parties in the uk to drive competition, i think this could be an interesting way forward.
This is brilliant, good to hear someone with an intelligent, honest take on this absolute hypocrite. You can take the boy out of the Daily Express, but you can't take the Daily Express out of the boy...
Thank you friend!
I identify as left. But this video is a little frustrating. You spend the majority of the video telling us why you disagree with the politics of these podcast hosts. I don't disagree with you, but why is this relevant? Unless you're advocating that only podcasts that agree with you are valuable (which you claim you're not), then I don't particularly care whether you dislike Rory Stewart, Ed Balls, etc. The value of these podcasts comes precisely because many of us find value in hearing opinions from those who have decades of working experience in politics. Rather than listening to endless 20-something year olds pontificating on topics on which they have little or no real-world experience. I also think your distaste for these hosts' politics is clouding your judgement on whether the commentary they provide is valuable or not. On TRiP, you say "the solutions are never there, avoiding deeper, actionable insights". What do you mean by this? From when I've listened, both hosts are more than happy to criticise politicians/policy and offer what they would have done differently. Of course, you or I may or may not agree, but I cannot criticise them for not giving opinions. Of course, you can always say you want deeper critique. But then why are you listening to a current affairs podcast? Similarly, another place where I think your bias shows is when you say that opinions on TRiP are treated like objective truths. I disagree. These podcasts are the modern evolution of the newspaper opinion column. It is a given that the statements within are opinions. I could write more, but I think I've written enough. I think the main point is that we disagree about the fundamental purpose of these kinds of podcasts. There's value in listening to those we disagree with. Despite the above, I don't disagree with many of your points on these hosts themselves.
I better get my hearing tested,I swear I heard the word compassionate coupled with conservative
According to the world of Janan Ganesh (honestly, reading his work makes me want to bang my head against the wall countless times).
Very excited for this watch! We need to talk more about think tanks

Nor should you. That's what makes democracy grand. Thank you for hanging around either way! Edit: Best of luck for your A-levels. Make sure you look after yourself, A-levels are such a stress... Worse than doing a PhD).
This is a good channel for content that chooses to focus mainly on British politics from an informed left perspective. He seems not to comment on cultural political arguments even though he does support these issues, I surmise he is smart enough to leave these conversations with the channels whose creators represent said communities. So yeah a good place to practice your arguments if you have any kind of investment in the persuasion business
@@DrNewVegas thank you! i will try haha
Another great video! congrats on surpassing 2.5K and thank you so much for covering this topic! :)
No problem! It was a pleasure to do it. Thank you!
There was never a golden age for working class education, it was more about conditioning kids to work in factory environments. I think a more holistic approach is better where education is more than just working life, as so many pensioners are sitting around waiting to die only educated for work. You're confident on the subs goal mate, are you planning a "How I escaped the Alt- right pipeline"video.😂 Just been exposed to one of these, seems like a common grift, though tbh who gives AF when the privileged now insert themselves into left spaces thinking they're the voices to lead some crusade to save others from the same mistake.great content here again Dr...
I am brave and stupid! No, never 😂 I could do a "How I escaped the liberal pipeline", but then who knows what the hell I am doing to get... Edit: Yes, I've seen those videos. They will do it for 10 minutes, then realise that culture war stuff has far more pull and run away again. Some of us are boring enough to stick around the left!
@@DrNewVegasall good but appealing to boring old Trotskyist farts like me won't hit that sub goal..You need to appeal to the young cultural Marxist, with better coloured lighting and a few costume changes😅
rlly great video !! was so happy to have a socialist perspective of british tv on my feed :))
I find it funny he was exiled like napoleon to am island😂
When you say the 'academisation' of schools, let's be clear, it's privatisation. Local authorities have been forced into selling off the education 'business' to private investors. The aim was purportedly to raise standards, thinking that private companies (for that is what academies are) could somehow raise educational achievement through the market-place. The result of privatising schools is that arts, language, music and sports education has been slashed in order to focus on the Science, Technology, English and Maths agenda to boost exam statistics. Schools have become exam factories. The Blair years were actually pretty good, there was a lot more money in the system for Summer Schools and extra-curricular activities and projects. But Blair proved to be a tw*t eventually. And a war-monger and war criminal. Yes, I was on those marches. As a public employee, I never had a problem with accountability and I was more than willing to be observed, coached and guided by my peers and superiors. But Ofsted was, and still is, a complete failure. They kept moving the goalposts, year after year, based on varying theories which took no account of 'best practice' and without consultation with the teaching profession. You know, those professionals and experts. Peter Vardy, the car salesman, got into the educational cash-cow of school academies, with an agenda of teaching an alternative version of the 'Creation' story as opposed to Darwin's wisdom and scientific research. Vardy eventually handed those schools back to the local authority, presumably the profit margins weren't worth the effort and cost. I hope he made use of the 'additional extended warranty' clause on his purchase. Ofsted's first leader was Chris Woodhead, a very average teacher at best by all accounts, who had a sexual relationship with one of his previous sixth-formers. Hypocrisy and potential criminality. (The rules are different for teachers). What an unpleasant man. The Gove era was a disaster. I'm going to leave it at that for the sake of my mental health and blood pressure. I sincerely hope I never see him in Sainsbury's. That would be a long conversation. My last Headteacher was on over £120k a year (that was more than ten years ago) and within two years the brand new school was in Special Measures. Not value for money. Incidentally, that brand-new school was utterly jerry-built. It took eighteen months to correct major leaks, plumbing and electrical issues. The build quality was worse than my home-made brick barbecue. Guess what, it was built by a private company. It's so annoying. My own children are all grown up now and doing well, but I seriously fear for my grandsons (and another one on the way) educational prospects. I might have to 'un-retire'! 'Public money going to Private hands'. That's my beef with recent Governments. It's endemic. From Education to Covid. Plus all the Utilities. And more. 'Bent a nine-bob note' as my Dad used to say. Love and peace.
I think its too late tbh. The country is only going to keep declining and nothing will improve. The vultures have picked at everything worthwhile. Eventually theres only gonna be scraps for the wolves to fight over. Its like theres no effort or education worth pursing to be passionate about or careers worth a damn. We're all gonna be like those elderly Walmart workers who just keep going with nothing until we drop.
Not if this channel has something to say about it!
we neeeed to stop specialising so young, choosing the wrong gcses makes it annoying later to try and get into other subjects if they will even let u in at a level, also some schools dont offer e.g. Triple science during school hours so kids who cant take that option are super disadvantaged at A level, same for maths/further maths, i got an A in my maths gcse but because everyone else in my a level maths class had taken further maths gcse (not available to me) they had already covered most of the topics so the teacher taught to them :(
same thing in my a level bio/chem classes, most of my peers had triple science gcses i only had double, yes i soon dropped out of 6th form LOL still bitter and mad abt it
Just to play devils advocate here, I personally took triple science, maths, and further maths as part of my GCSES and did Maths and two sciences at A level. The content covered in further maths overlapped with on it the first 2-3 weeks of Lower 6th content at a level. So personally I really don’t think it makes a difference if you did further maths at GCSE or not. Same for science subjects, the ‘advantage’ only lasts about 2 weeks
@patbland3808 im glad you made it thru til the end and got your qualifications!
I went to the school that had the head teacher on the news for her offstead suicide. Mrs Perry. Something needs to change so this doesn’t happen this again. Strangely ironic that this teaching tragedy happened in a town called Reading.
One of the biggest drivers of the teacher exodus ( over 44,000 of working age in each of the last two years and it will be a similar figure when the next figure is released) is bullying. Toxic work environments without the guardrails in the corporate sector are leaving staff in many schools at the mercy of dictatorial management. Without exaggeration, staff are petrified with nowhere to turn. The unions are ineffective, there is no solidarity in teaching so you are on your own if targeted and the weakness of the law means there is little redress except in cases of discrimination regarding protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. Even then proving a case is not easy, which is why people vote with their feet to protect their mental health or accept settlement agreements ( three months pay and a good reference with an NDA). Sky News did a report on bullying in education two weeks ago and it is on its website- until there is a national reckoning over bullying and the poor quality of management is addressed, the exodus will not stop. No surprise that the focus recently is on extending maternity rights to persuade women in their thirties to stay in teaching. Worthy and correct though this is, the number of women in their thirties in the 44,000 figure is about 10,000. Staff may leave for more than one reason but bullying will account for many of the departures and the colossal waste of talent it represents.
You are so right with your observations. I was a teacher for twenty years, but I would actively discourage any young person from taking up this profession today. I loved the creative aspect of teaching and the interaction with young people, it was just good fun! Hard work but rewarding. It's the way schools have been taken over by private companies ('academies' is the word used to hide the truth and make it sound more respectable) that has ruined the teaching profession and the futures of our young people. Modern shools are just exam factories which place excessive burden on the school students without adequate support or interventions and place unrealistic demands on the teaching staff who, in turn, have reduced rights and job security. Those school leaders who have pledged to 'stamp out bullying in schools', are themselves the true bullies. Stay safe. Love and peace.
@@daweshorizon Every prediction opponents of academisation warned about has transpired. Most teachers failed to come on board with opposition to it. They are world class whingers but asked to take a stand most run to the hills, with honourable exceptions in some schools. It is worse in the suburbs generally compared to the inner cities. The fact that large number of teachers are quiet Tories despite the self evident destruction of the system before their eyes due to disastrous policies before and after the Blair era ( he hollowed out Labour but there is no doubt money poured in after the two year delay from 1997 sticking to Tory spending plans) ensures compliance. Largely ineffective unions that often side with management ( you could not make it up) and the fact that teachers were often the best behaved students at school also ensures a bias against moving beyond grumbling. The psychology of the profession results in accepting conditions of service that would be deemed intolerable in most other areas. All these factors play into the hands of management. The threat of capability also keeps people in line. Accountability is entirely appropriate and necessary in support of standards and consistency but the sword of Damocles represented by OFSTED inspections is not the answer. The organisation is not fit for purpose although teachers are in for a surprise when they realise little is likely to change under Labour. The old HMI model is the solution- supportive and developmental, eschewing the high stakes model that has caused incalculable damage since 1992. The number of managers on outrageous salaries as executive head teachers and in other roles is a scandalous racket and waste of public money. Some of them have been on higher salaries than cabinet ministers or captains of industry in large companies, while teachers have seen relentless deterioration of wages in real terms since 2010. I am not holding my breath but Labour should call time on the excessive salaries being paid to this layer of leadership. The hierarchical nature of education in Britain also fuels bullying where it occurs- the power imbalance between staff and management increases vulnerability to abuse of power. Other countries have a much flatter structure without unnecessary layers of management that does little to improve the quality of education. There is no compelling evidence that paying sky high salaries makes any meaningful difference. The system encourages chancers and egotists to push themselves to the front of the queue for plum jobs that take them away from the classroom. Academisation is an ideological scam that has destroyed education and it is going to be almost impossible to fix. Starmer's remarks to a group of teachers and teaching assistants at a recent reception that the biggest problem facing the sector ( I refuse to call it a profession because it is anything but) is lack of respect shows woeful, possibly deliberate myopia in the face of multiple problems no-one appears capable of addressing.
@@eightiesmusic1984 I agree. I was the NUT rep in three schools and organised two strikes. The NUT was never a 'radical' Trade Union as the Daily Mail would have us believe. The NUT struggled to get things done because of its lack of purpose, vision and unity. And lots of members lacked conviction. Sometimes, just getting a meeting organised in school was a major task! I did have direct access to the Head Teacher though in all cases but the responses I got were lack lustre, shall we say. Some responses were (darkly) laughable. The recruitment and retention crisis in teaching has no forseeable end in my view. Our young people are being cast aside in the name of money. Tragic. Love and peace.
@@daweshorizon I know of what you speak. One HT informed me the school was a benign dictatorship. Only one of those words was accurate. There should be one union but vested interests clearly do not want it. Fundamentally, the system is now so broken that it cannot be put right- the genie is out of the bottle.
@@eightiesmusic1984 With a heavy heart, I have to agree with you. The whole system needs a re-think. I'll be keeping a keen eye on my grandsons' progress through the education machine, especially when they get to Seconadary School. Love and peace.
Does anyone still go to school 😅?
Not anymore, apparently!
Brilliant analysis mate; so impressive👏
Thank you, faithful viewer!
Oh no, you used the word 'reimagine' 😱
My wife is a teacher, in Indonesia.you should do a video about that awful Burrbell-Singh character.
Oh yeah. I've read a lot about her. A hard-right authoritarian that Ofsted praised for their stance. Even teaching courses were telling their students to follow her model! (surprise surprise).
My eldest lad went to college to do bricklaying. I think he had anout 8/9 months of classroom/ workshop training and no help to organise apprenticeship. No second yr offered and as theres no money in apprenticeships only firms taking them on were just after piss cheap labourers as taking time out to teach them costs money for pricework gangs. 2 years later hes cutting grass for minimum wage . Total fkn joke
it's a complete joke, especially when we have a huge shortage of professions like tradesmen. The government should be making it a priority to invest in, and encourage employment in sectors like this and yet we're broke because the banks went bust 16 years ago due to corporate greed and light touch regulation
@Sam-uk4mb the tutor spent the 1st year telling students that they didn't need the 2nd yr ( which teaches the more technical/artistic skills , arches etc.) and just get on site and get earning . When my lad asked nr end of yr 1 about next year he was told there wasn't enough demand so not being offered . Total waste of time , rushed through and chucked out to non existent apprenticeships.
Tory Scumbags had no intentions of supporting trade apprenticeship schemes while we could import very good competent skilled people from Poland. Shysters!
It's more than that the ENTIRE system is broken from the top down perspective YOU PAY TO WORK -degrees are WAY too expensive for what they are meaning you have NO chance to pay them back which causes student debt which is a net negative to the country. -Qualifications can run out which is stupid like your CSCS cards your ACMES all have so many years before they're useless. -So many useless degree's if you want to take an "arts master degree" you should have to pay that out of your own pocket because it's useless in society. -Experience<qualifications it honestly doesn't matter you have X degree because 99% of firms want is "X amount of experience". -High bar of entry to get into uni you need credits most useful qualifications DON'T have many credits meaning if you wanted to go to uni (such as myself) you can't enter it story-from my time working i have 32 different qualifications 4 level 1's & the rest all level 2's in four different sectors of engineering (mechanical, electrical, CNC & welding) all from all from highly saught after boards with experience to back it up, shall i tell you what they said to me "we aren't accepting you because you need atleast ONE level 3 qualification" HUH!? I'm more qualifified & have more REAL world experience than most of your Professors have so why? they responded with "we can see that Mr X, that your an established engineer with the qualifications to prove it so we'll offer you this special deal heres this top up course for your level 3 qualification". so i did what i was asked signed up for it, only till i read what the subsections of the engineering course & i was honestly shocked 90% of the ENTIRE course was just bloat so i asked about it got no response & canceled the course & told them to stick that course where the sun doesn't shine since the only wanted to do my bachlors in mechanical engineering is so i can claim chartered welder status because it's higher than my coded welder status & don't run out like my ISO's & ASMEs XD. The main issue is BLOAT which bloats the time & price of the courses which makes them unpayable by normal people if the Uni's cut the bloat then the price drops it's that simple & they should remove ALL restrictions so you don't have to waste 9 years just to get accepted.
Very informative (and infuriating) video. I hope and pray that we start seriously demanding to take everything back into public ownership, and properly fund schools and the NHS. Surely the general public are united on this... Aren't we?
3 in 5 Brits support it, according to Ipsos: www.ipsos.com/en-uk/3-in-5-britons-would-prefer-utilities-to-be-publicly-owned-and-operated. Even when I've chatted to right-wingers, they often support it! You will get some oddball who doesn't, but most people do. The only ones who reject it are Starmer and the gang. As you say, infuriating to make such easy steps. But they will have to when they can't keep chucking money at it and services crumble to bits.
Unfortunately the public are constantly distracted with the usual immigration panic and dole shaming shite that our politicians love so much
we aren't unfortunately because many of the right wing newspapers are owned by people who stand to benefit from light touch regulation and taxation
Unfortunately not. Only one in five voters backed Labour in the election and the Starmer project is wedded to neoliberalism- privatisation is one of its key tenets. At every turn since 1979 the electorate has voted against its own interests despite repeated warnings. Once Blair converted Labour to Thatcherism it was too late- Corbyn was the last chance to turn the tide but the establishment did everything possible to block him and the voters swallowed the propaganda, especially in 2019. Under FPTP the interests of the minority take precedence- while polls show support for renationalisation of water and the rail network, for instance, public ownership is anaethma to the neoliberal project. Reform is a euphemism for more privatisation of the NHS- Britain spends 4% less per annum than major European economies on healthcare. Money is the answer but it has been deliberately run down on purpose to create the space to justify privatisation.
'48.4% of grades in independent schools were at A/7 or higher, up from 47.5% last year. In contrast, at academies it rose slightly from 21% to 21.2%, and at comprehensives 19.3% to 19.4%. This means the gap between independent and comprehensive schools rose from 28.2 percentage points to 29 percentage points. Grammar schools similarly saw bigger rises than non-selective schools.' (data for 2024) Yet another sector in which the gap between rich and poor is being solidified, private healthcare being another huge one. This country is broken, it's not just the education sector
Totally agree. I had a video discussing outsourcing in general last week. Privatisation and privilege is a monument to their political sins.
@@DrNewVegas it's just another way for the investor class to close off access to the high paying jobs, whether intentionally or otherwise. In the same vein, only those who have parents in high paying sectors/go to prestigious schools like Eton and Harrow have the social capital necessary to get their foot through the door and grab crucial placement years. It's one huge old boys club and it's so cruel to live in a country that punishes people for having the gall to be born into a low income family. How many great minds born into poverty have been wasted because we haven't invested enough to be considered (even remotely) an equitable society?
watching this on my phone i thought the light up globe was the eye of sauron
See it as a budget version
"Made-ley", not "Mad-ley" Not a criticism, but the only thing more irritating than the man is hearing his name wrong :)
The BBC should pay average wages. Nothing special. If a presenter gets popular then fine, move to ITV. Public money in the order of hundreds of thousands should not be lining the pockets of presenters, if anything the BBC should be a stepping stone to better pay elsewhere. All the while TV Licensing are chasing vulnerable people for their licence fees and taking them to court for it, they should not simultaneously be paying any presenter the equivalent of three and a half thousand licences every year just to do a very basic and easy job. There are no doubt thousands of people who would do that job for almost a minimum wage. The idea that Gary pissing Lineker is worth over half a million of anybody’s money is an absolute joke, and the BBC should be held to account for such shocking a waste of our money.
So the rises in minimum wage, will this mean working families will no longer need to visit food banks remains to be seen.Nothing for the unemployed or disabled,Pensioners whose pitiful private pensions take them a couple of quid over the pension credit qualifying amount can continue to worry about putting the heating on this winter. The UK financial market has seen business flooding to US markets since our incomprehensible decision for Brexit, given the incredible deal we had managed to broker with the EU,so good luck trying to convince them to return..Good critique btw,I watched your video yesterday where you talked about subscribers demanding what content they want to see.But excuse me if I'm mistaken, you did ask a couple of videos back if there were any topics we would like covered ,how about the current US policy in the middle east, their efforts to bring the saudis and Israel together and how things have escalated since China the worlds current biggest consumer of oil,was brokering talks between the Saudis and Iran very successfully last year..worth looking into imo
Completely agree with you on your points. Brexit has been an utter disaster the more I look at it. I may do a video on that at some point. I'm happy to do videos on whatever people would like me to explore. I'm not sure what I said now off the top of my head, but I'm always happy to have suggestions! I get a bit worn out by the comment section sometimes over people just attacking me or asking for videos that have nothing to do with my channel (which sometimes pops up). I've had some great suggestions from regulars, and the video you have suggested is included in that greatness. I will start researching about it, though I have read some bits on China's deals relating to oil. I would have to tap into discussions about China's economy in general, which riles up mass debates on the left which aren't inherently worth it sometimes. But I like the idea so let me work on it.
@@DrNewVegascool,I had a great discussion with an asian taxi driver who told me he felt paranoia about China was unjustified as, the only interest they have in the outside world is that of customers..I forgot to give kudos for your call for nationalisation,it never hurt the French economy and their investment in infrastructure just brings shade on our systems
the budget stunk of a desperate attempt to stand with one one foot in the water and the other on land. inconsistent half measures that don't resolve the problems we face as they had to be curbed to allow for some corporate interest to flourish. i can't see how any of this would create a better situation for the people, its the same shit different story once again and it's deeply frustrating
I'd rather have UBI and cooperatives than nationalising everything. Cooperatives democratise the economy by putting the power in the hands of workers and communities. UBI insulates people from poverty and provides security against capitalism's coersive elements. Nationalising puts all the control in the hands of the hierarchical state, which is going to act in its own interests that may not necessarily align with the people's interests. The state may also sell public services to the private sector, which is much less likely to happen with cooperatives.
I personally disagree. Both options would not eliminate the greed and exploitation of capitalism; they only seek to accept it. UBI has been supported by right-wing economists, because as you have put it, gives less reliance on the state’s involvement of industry. The state must be democratised when moving towards a programme of public ownership, but without it, it wouldn’t stop co-operatives exploiting other workers or companies as the business grows. I haven't seen a dominance of co-operatives, because you would ultimately need capital in order to create one in the first place. The goal of co-ops is still to make a profit, and some co-ops have operated with workers still being exploited in the company, as only the founders have been part of that co-op (though you could then argue it isn't a co-op). journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/09730052231224575 I've never really bought into either of these methods. If people prove it works, I would be happy to discuss it further.
It honestly pisses me off that we get MORE taxes every single tax they've increased you guessed it hurts us at the bottom of the barrel of the working class & even the middle class, making the poor poorer & the rich richer this is going to drive us into a HARD recession because people will stop spending, all these business's that have had minimum wage & NC contributions increased will just fire one person & keep the other 10 & any extra costs will be passed down to the purchaser making it more expensive making it worse for them. This isn't all when the Cons were in they capped the income tax bands till 2029 meaning you'll be pushed into higher bands aka paying MORE tax. overall this entire budget is stupid the goverment SHOULD be cutting the useless fat off the govermental services making them cost less meaning less taxes to run them why TF am i paying more for less. the entire pension ponzi scheme should also be completely reworked before it fails to be based on economic growth aka when you pay into your pension that money is used to upgrade country services & infrastructure that then you profit off of when you retire, not "workers now pay off the pensioners because reasons" because ALL ponzi schemes are doomed to fail in the end & we're just seeing the cracks of it. Personally this is just showing HOW incompetent these politicians are with OUR money costs should be dropping not increasing XD.
I disagree with much of your analysis on Meloni. I did an essay on her at uni this year and read numerous of her speech transcripts. She’s got an unfortunate skill of seeming respectable and credible, while sneaking in dogwhistles to her base. Her interactions with the EU and support for Ukraine has given her tacit leeway in pursuing right-wing migration policies. She has also outmanoeuvred all of her political opponents, and managed a stable government as neighbouring EU govts are in freefall. I fundamentally disagree with her and her policies, but wouldn’t underestimate her or her electoral skills.
