    How do we break the Murdoch stranglehold on our media? it's almost impossible, it's so depressing.

    • @DrJoeLovelace
      @DrJoeLovelace  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      One of the things I got annoyed about (which I forgot to add to the script) was the amount of complaints from Ofcom during Piers’s time. If they did their job, Piers should have been taken off GMB a long time ago. Our regulators are too weak and bend over backwards for the press (most of the people in them are Tories or ex-media figures).
      To just stand a chance, all the regulators need uprooting, given an “arms length” approach and clamp down on the media barons by regulating them properly.

      Well Murdoch is in his 90's so it's a matter of when and considering him and his crazy son is suing his non-crazy kids so they don't dissolve Fox News.

    I'm loving these longer videos, what a treat!
    There are many thoughts I wanted to share while watching this video about Piers Morgan, but alas, none of them comply with TH-cam's terms of service 🤷

    • @DrJoeLovelace
      @DrJoeLovelace  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Are you preferring them? I'm slightly working with different formats to see which one is best.
      I couldn't even be bothered to get into all the things he said. He doesn't deserve to have his horrible voice echoed on my channel.

    • @entropyinreverse
      @entropyinreverse 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@DrJoeLovelace I think I would always prefer you make them the length you feel is best for the topic, without over-working yourself, cause you're putting out loads of content as it is.
      I do enjoy short videos when they cover dry subjects/people (lookin' at you, Keir Starmer), cause my ADHD ass can get through the whole thing without zoning out 🙈
      I would say, definitely do longer ones whenever you feel you can, not only for my own selfish reasons but for the bloody algorithm God's, though I'm sure you know this.
      In any case, your videos are great, and the channel is only going to continue to grow. We're in desperate need of British leftists on TH-cam, just don't overwork yourself!

      @@entropyinreverse I feel the same about making my videos 😂 my brain is like, “Ah, something more interesting now” as I'm editing. I'll work it out, but yes, you are right; I will be careful not to constrain myself to the capitalist mantra of being over-productive. I am having the best time with this channel and appreciate it when great people like yourself support me. I know I say it a lot, but I am genuinely thankful for you and our interactions. It keeps me going!

    Always remember when Morgan guested on an episode of 'Have I Got News For You?' which predictably became more fractious and argumentative with him on the programme, with Morgan asking the quick-witted Clive Anderson "What do you know about editing newspapers?", to which Anderson replied "About as much as you do!"

    They should be noted that Piers Morgan began as a celebrity gossip “journalist” and has remained so the past 40 years… he treats politics like a gossip mag talks about whose fucking who.

    Another great video! You probably don't need any help with video suggestions, you have picked some great things to talk about so far and have an impressive upload schedule, but if you were ever looking for something to cover, I would really like to hear your take on Policy Exchange.
    I’m sure you’re familiar, but in case not they are the right-wing think tank that proposed "cold-war" tactics against "Islamic extremism." Gove was a key member, and they were behind pushing the creation of the "non-violent extremism" concept as well as the Prevent programme. These policies have most recently led to university undergraduates having their essays read because they were reported by their professors. A young boy was also detained because his teacher mistook the name of a companion of the Prophet Muhammed as that of a terrorist. I think it has unpinned a lot of the Islamophobia we continue to see in the UK.
    If you haven’t read it already, I would really recommend The Fate of Abraham (Oborne, 2022).
    Thank you so much again for making this content!

      Ah yes, I know them well. I'm pretty sure they were also some pioneers in the economic choices in the past 10 years (Austerity, Lizzy’s mini-budget). An excellent discussion for a video. Oh, and they promote outsourcing. I remember reading a recent paper where they promoted methods of further outsourcing in Higher Education. As a former lecturer, it has destroyed HE and they just have the most stupid and disastrous policies I've ever seen.
      I have been recommended Oborne’s book before (well that book as he has others). I'll check it out and be sure to see something on it next week! Thank you for the excellent suggestion!

    Loving your work, but being as you asked for ‘tips’ and ‘suggestions’ about how to improve….here goes…
    Quite simply I’d tone down the comedy, the cut in illustrative memes and silly voices. You don’t really need it - what you’re producing is super articulate, coherent and well thought through… imho
    Again, this is meant to be constructive 🙂
    (I’ve worked as a sound recordist in main stream documentary media for, ahem, quite a few years and it’s a common request that I’ve noticed over the years from most directors to presenters…)
    Comedy is just hard to pull off properly - it’s often way more subtle than you might first think…. and the camera tends see through and amplify imperfections - the ‘unblinking eye’ and all that….

    • @DrJoeLovelace
      @DrJoeLovelace  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the great and constructive feedback. I agree with you. I don't think they are needed and honestly, it takes longer to do them than the video itself, so you are right.

      I think the comedy stuff is mostly fine, but purely visual stuff is a bit confusing if I'm listening to the video and not watching.
