AWD Mustang Gets a New Driveshaft EP - 30 Project Traction
In this Episode I cover the going to the track and trouble shooting a vibration issue that cropped up in the AWD Drivetrain.
Part of the Solution was installing a custom Driveshaft Shop Double CV joint driveshaft.
I then rebuild the front differential and swapped out the motor mounts to make the car a bit smoother and address some vibration issues.
AWD VMP Supercharged boosted 5.0 Coyote Mustang.

While AWD is not traditional in an American muscle car, this conversion is the most award-winning I’ve ever seen, since you successfully added an AWD system to a Mustang despite the chassis not being designed to support it. It was indeed not a case of simply screwing a front drivetrain where it can physically fit with some improvisation, some components had to be modified or even replaced just to allow the front drivetrain to fit. It’s nice to see someone try out something new over tradition, in this case adding AWD to a muscle car. Ignore all the controversy. We need more mechanics like you!

I can relate to this guy because im constantly looking for ways to improve the design of things. Also, I try to look at the best products, what makes them great, and how they can be surpassed. Great job, hopefully Ford takes note. Maybe a rear engine Mustang with an electric motor for the front wheels like the E- ray, lol

For a point of reference. On the 1999-2002 Mustang Cobras, there were significant problems with driveline vibrations. To fix this, in 2003, Ford made a number of changes to the car. The pilot OD of the centering ring on the pinion flange was increased by 0.002". This made it a line to line fit with the matching part on the rear u-joint, so there was 0 runout. The pinion flanges and the pinion gear were also balanced as a set. Holes were drilled in the OD of the pinion flange for balancing. The nose of the pinion gear has a zero stamped on it as a rotational reference for the pinion flange to be installed. I do not recall if Ford did anything similar on the S550 Mustang.

You’re an expert fabricator and most likely were looking for a challenge, but it looks like your goal is to run 10s in the quarter. The car would be better suited as a road course machine. To get to 10s in a Quarter mile you could have clutched it, tubbed it and added drag radial tires, done.

I had a nasty driveshaft shake after doing a 4l80e swap recently (put the rear DS yoke 180 out lol) and that was a big bummer. I can imagine how bad it was to loosen all the bolts.

Ford might introduce the first factory AWD Mustang (other than the Mach-E) after all after believing it would never happen. That would be the off-road Raptor Mustang which was said to be in development. If it ever comes out, you could do a comparison video of it with your custom AWD Mustang GT here.

It's funny that it was an auto, now it's a manual.
It was always a manual, but it has an oem gt500 steering wheel and I have been to lazy to take the paddles off😁
@npvg There's nothing wrong with that unless they're in the way. I actually mentioned this thought that you put into working action to my landlord about a year or 2 ago. I was wondering why Dodge had pursuit cars for police in RWD or AWD. And Ford had the Interceptor Sedan that is either front or AWD. In N/A or Ecoboost. Some police have a Mustang, maybe 2 but they aren't AWD. I've wondered why. It came be that much more expensive to do AWD in an American sports car.
Did you know there is a problem on Highmiledge 4runners in the front diff a sleeve bearing wear causes intermittent vibration .

Car runs low 11 seconds first time at the drag strip. Builder says "unimpressive." Brother. That's Trinity GT500 competition. Give yourself a pat on the back. You're not a whole team of engineers. You're just one guy. Get that clutch dialed in and that 60 foot down and this thing will be tough to beat for a true daily-driveable street car.
Cant really call it a true mustang ford didnt make a s awd mustang so at best youve meshed two cars together and came up with a hybrid not a true car
8.0’s in the 1/8th in an awd boosted car? My bone stock 2022 mt82 gt ran 7.8 @ 92
