I'm confused by you guys. You winced and squirmed at the perceived violation of every Liberal hot button issue in this movie, but you also made sure that we know you're just a couple of straight guys reacting to a gay movie. And this comedy is more seriously propaganda. You guys confirm the propaganda. Apparently you live in the Lib echo chamber. Oh, Kiddies, I was out and about in the late '70s and '80s when people had thicker skin and better, more organic grounded laughs. La Cage, BTW, came out in 1978.

The editing could have been a bit better. It's too much talking and too little from the film. 40 minutes is a good time for a movie reaction in my opinion and to edit / cut important things on the movie. It makes no sense if you talk 15 minutes and we see 6 minutes of the film. Then you could just make a 3 min video and talk how you liked it... Just saying... 🥵

Fun Fact - According to Homer Hickam October Sky is an anagram of Rocket Boys. ................................................................................................................................................................. the title of Homer Hickam's 1998 memoir that was adapted into a 1999 film of the same name. The word anagram means the letters of a word are rearranged to form a different word, and in this case, the letters of Rocket Boys are simply moved around to spell October Sky. Director Joe Johnston discovered the anagram using a computer program after the movie title had already been chosen, and he described it as "cosmically inspired". The paperback version of the book was also re-released with the movie title to capitalize on interest in the film. Rocket Boys is about a group of boys in a small town who start launching rockets in the late 1950s, and the title has both literal and metaphorical meanings, including "reaching for the stars".

When the movie was released, Nathan Lane was virtually unknown outside of Broadway, and was still in the closet. Officially. Because it could still kill a career to be an openly gay actor. During a promotional appearance on Oprah, Lane and Williams appeared together. Oprah asked a “gotcha” question of Lane that would have forced the issue - but Williams, in his inimitable way, interrupted and pulled the conversation away from the topic. To save Lane from having to answer. After Williams died, Lane told that story as a tribute to what a great person he had been, and how Lane was eternally grateful to him.

Cooler cups are cones so that they can be efficiently stacked, one inside the other. Air conditioning was very rare, even in the early 1960s. My elementary school had no AC. Most stores had no AC; the ones that did usually had a sign, “Come on in, it’s cool inside.” They started putting central AC in new houses in the late 1960s. Typically, families in older houses had a window AC unit in the parents’ bedroom and nowhere else. Most juries were all-male because almost everywhere, even today, jury pools come from tax rolls. Few women worked then, so men overwhelmingly predominated the tax rolls. It is essential for juries to be allowed to examine exhibits, as well demonstrated in the movie. It poses no problem because the forensics have already been done. This was written as an original teleplay (1954), which can be seen on TH-cam. The movie is a revised and much-improved version of the story. It was remade for TV again in 1997. If anyone out there sits on a jury, I strongly recommend NOT taking a preliminary vote first. It causes people to stubbornly defend their vote before they have discussed the facts.

30 years ago it was a different world. By 1994, AIDS became the leading cause of death for all Americans ages 25-44 years old and against this backdrop to gay people were terrible. You had Senator Jesse Helms calling gay people in Newsweek in 1994, "degenerates" and "weak, morally sick wretches," In 98 Matthew Shepherd was brutally murdered. You can be sure people like this fictional politician's family existed and I can understand why Val wanted to 'tone down' his background as 'sad' as it seems, and why his father would agree with it out of love for his son.
