How Napoleon is portrayed as simp and childish is extremely embarrassing. It's true that he probably loved Josefina a lot, but he didn't let himself be f#ck#d like in the movie. Even the scene where Napoleon slaps Josefina during the divorce is complete nonsense. Napoleon was certainly not a good man, but he would never allow himself to hit a woman. It wasn't in his nature. They made him a total desperado in the movie. Overall this movie had potential and they just screwed it up.

Fully agree! They definitely didn't portray him well

Instead of ridiculous and disgusting bed scenes, they could have depicted Napoleon as a statesman...

45:59 basically the drummers beating the drums kept cohesion of a formation, making sure the common soldier knew he was not alone, his comrades and officers were alongside him and he was in a formation marching together
Drummer dead means cohesion lost and no one to beat drumming orders cause it was only by hearing the drums could you understand whether you had to charge, or stand or fire cause shouts can't be heard in the smoke or chaos of battle
And yes, the soldiers joined Napoleon, cause even after his defeat, he had stayed by their side afterwards and secondly, as you correctly guessed, things under Napoleon were better than under any Louis.
Basically, a lot of details are not mentioned and entire parts of his story removed in the movie which can cause many questions and doubts like you guys had

The coronation in Notre Dame is the exact reproduction of the Napoleon coronation painting by Jacques Louis David, the is in the Louvre

The portrayal of Napoleon in this movie was highly inaccurate. Napoleon was a calculated and tempered guy. He was elegant and posh in both his mannerisms and rhetoric. He wasn't a high strung little man child

It did seem like Joaquin wasn't sure what to do with the role. Not sure where he got his info from.

@@joshandcaseyworse this movie skips over soo many important historical events that were instrumental in napoleon's rise and fall to power it was a disappointing let down along with the waterloo movie people have been suggesting i recommend you watch epic history tv they did a full series on napoleon and his military marshals too

If you want a better version of Napoleon there is the Napoleon 2002 serie (4 episodes) 10 time better than the Ridley Scott Movie ! She is more "historicly accurate". The principale problem is her low budget for battle but it's less important.
The serie respect Napoleon, that the thing ! Show the good and the bad
There is Waterlo (1970') with one of the most incredible image of fight. They use 20 000 people, real scale army size ! Stunning !

A terrible film really, big missed opportunity. As others have said, the film Waterloo from 1970 is a far greater spectacle, and the acting of the characters, especially of Napoleon and Wellington, is brilliant

It would've been better if it was directed by a French director who knows about the history of Napoleon. Ridley Scott's directing this movie was a big mistake, he has no heart for history or planning all he cares about is just fighting and deaths in films!
