Please, before you write your paragraph about the title - be opened minded about this hair routine for black women. Washing natural hair every day is absolutely OKAY to do and it has changed my life.

For me, it’s kinda hard to do the daily washes but I have been trying to let my hair get wet in the shower from time to time. I typically wash my hair once every two weeks but I gotta do better 😅
I didn't post until 5 years after the wedding. LOL!
Love hearing this, we don’t wash our hair enough!
fyi - watch this if you have a dirty scalp. 👉 th-cam.com/video/L9L3amltGDk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jToMuFK5c6cbWZZd
your hair looks great!
I'm mid-30s and I'm still learning my hair. I was brought up thinking I didn't need to wash my hair that often but I can tell my hair isn't doing well with that routine. I'll start off once a week and hopefully increase it from there! My main issue is time management.
Folks claiming that black folks only need to wash their hair once a month because we have “different hair” baffle me. Yes our hair may grow differently BUT our scalps still need to be cleansed regularly! I wash my hair twice a week and at least once every 7-9 days if I have braids in. At the very LEAST you should wash your hair once every two weeks. I don’t know where this idea that we don’t have to wash our hair as often started but it needs to ✋🏾.
Could it be that it was told to us to wash our hair less in order to sabotage us? Like imagine if Black women had our hair out more thriving and healthy as a collective. I think it’s all by design to break down our sense of identity!
Literally was dealing with a sore scalp and tried everything to fix it. I cut my hair and started washing daily bc it dries faster and don’t deal with any of that scalp soreness anymore!! Experimenting with my hair is the best thing I’m doing now.
It’s crazy more ppl don’t encourage it
Yayyyy yes if you have a scalp condition, washing it more definitely helps a lot! I too think it’s crazy work that ppl don’t encourage it…
Hey, could you make a video where you explain the aftercare routine for washing your hair? Do you use conditioner, oil, or hair butter after washing? How do you style it afterward? I'm also not sure how to wrap or style my hair for bed and which products to use. Any advice would be appreciated!
Hey boo! I’ll keep that in mind for a future video! When you have time check out my natural hair playlist, I have it linked in my bio but I’ll put it here too 😊 th-cam.com/play/PLD7Aj6c9WCAOqD7PNutlGSdQIApB5Xtol.html
I shampoo every 4-5 days but I really cannot maintain a wash n go style, retain length and go from wet to dry daily. There is a matrix of hair care, between the hygiene, time, health of strands, and how i want to wear my hair. I've seen ms. Mississippi vids but i dont want to wear my hair like that. As you get to mid back and waist length its not a sustainable practice
Def can see that as my hair grows longer. My only goal is for folks to wash 1-2 a week at the least! But so many ppl fight against that. Here to push for diversity in reshaping hair care routines that help black women love our hair and care for our hair.
I tried washing my hair daily. It wasn’t for me yet, because I have a 7 month old who’s not a fan of the blow dryer at night. I’m still washing once a week though. Can’t wait to retry it!
Aw, I understand and I appreciate you trying it out. The beauty of this is that you can pick it up when you need to do it and make it work for your lifestyle ♥️ let us know if you try it out again!
Yay my favourite type of content! 🥰 Can you please share shampoo recs? I get paranoid that some of the shampoos I use may be too harsh for daily use. I have been daily washing my hair for a while now, mixing and matching different shampoos and conditioners.. my hair and scalp are thriving!
Wow That’s amazing! Happy your hair is thriving. Yes I definitely can. I think it deserves a full video honestly bc I need to do more research 🧐 stay tuned!
@@EvieAswiti perfect, looking forward to the video 😍
I can see why you were asked if you had a perm. You have straight bits on the ends. Nothing to do with your skin tone which is beautiful. If daily shampooing works for you go at it. I'm team clean scalp too. I don't add oils or conditioners. My head feels light and free. I shampoo three times per week. That's my limit. I did an experiment washing daily and it was definitely overkill. My hair NEVER gets greasy and I wish I had more sebum. Greasy girls need to heed your advice; others can stretch it.
Yessss, I wanted to laugh so hard!!! I always get questions about my hair though so I’m not mad. Very good point about the greasy girls especially washing more. I do have a finer hair texture so I think that’s also a factor too. Thanks for sharing love! 💕
Good concept for people who’s hair isn’t shoulder length to tailbone.
God willing I’ll be able to make a video about that when the time comes
@@mesidye even when my hair was brastrap length 1-2 times a week is the bare minimum
Yup. My hair takes forever to dry and if I washed it every day it would just be a soggy mess.
Do you use indirect heat in your hair? Like blow drying with a diffuser or hooded dryer (stand alone or portable/detached)?
Yes! 1-2x/week is minimum for all hair types of any length IMO.
Hi Evie! Thank you for the special shoutout it was a pleasure meeting you as well. I can attest my mother suffered from hair loss along her hair line as a result of high tension hairstyles. Ever since I told her about Evie and her advice to wash her hair daily we have seen a drastic change in her hairline! My mom has regained so much confidence and I’ve been washing my hair more often myself noticing my curl pattern becoming more defined even with heat trained hair! Please don’t knock it until you try it🫶🏾
Hi Daijah, you are so welcome! Thanks so much for sharing bc this can really help someone ☺️ alsooo yessss to “heat trained” bc I already expect somebody to come for me claiming my hair is super damaged since my curl pattern loosened up from straightening it this summer. Maybe it’ll be a future video 👀
The most I’ll do is once a week. With washing my waist length hair everyday in the cold climate I live in, I’ll be chronically wet all the time. And I’m not keen for so much heat. I think if your hair is short or depending on your hair porosity it can make sense to be able to wash everyday. Yes, other races wash their hair everyday or multiple times a week but that’s because the oils from their scalps travels down their hair shaft really quickly. With coily hair it doesn’t travel as fast so our hair can be cleaner for longer. I’m not in the “dirty hair grows” club but I’m not in the “everyday wash” club either. Part of healthy hair is hydration which can come from washing but also for having the most fragile of all hair types, low manipulation and penetration of oils with nutrients to maintain hair strength and structure is necessary. And with the latter, I think with constant stripping of oils with more frequent washing in a week works against what most black women want to achieve which is length retention
I definitely see your point. I think from a vanity perspective I’m not gonna lie, it feels so amazing to massage my scalp in the shower and feel how soft my hair is ngl 🤭 BUT I’m excited to see how I tweak this routine as my hair grows longer! Stay tuned and thanks for sharing your experience
Yes!!! For the past month I have been experimenting with washing my 4c hair daily. I am absolutely loving it and wish I had started sooner. I wash, condition, then wrap my hair with flexi rods using a tiny amount of gel + oil to stretch it while it dries overnight. The feeling of a fresh, clean scalp with nice-smelling hair cannot be matched. It's a total confidence boost and really has elevated my lifestyle in several ways. I can't wait to see what my hair looks like a year from now - it's growing fast now!
Looking good friend ❤
Thank you friend!
I grew up getting my hair washed every 2-4 weeks. When I became natural I washed every 2 weeks up until my fourth year being natural, after I discovered Mrs. Mississippi's TH-cam channel and I fell in love with washing every week and twice a week. Now I'm almost eight years natural and I still wash once a week, even with using heat. Ive also washed twice a week and even daily before. It baffles me now to think that back in the day I thought dirty hair grows, when we wash our face and body everyday. Great video. ❤️
I love this backstory! I also can’t believe how I also thought dirty hair grows. I still remember picking out dandruff flakes from my scalp as a kid thinking it was good for my hair 🤦🏾♀️
The straight pieces are heat damaged?
Yeah, according to TH-cam university.
@@EvieAswiti 😂😂
💀 your username is hilarious 🤣
I’m a weekly washer but if I play tennis or workout I’m deff washing twice a week. I tell BW all the time to wash their hair more 💡
@@VirgosGroove3 We love a tennis girlie! Yeah, nothing like a wash after a good workout 🏋️♀️
I absolutely agree with washing my hair more than once a week, but every day in a midwest winter? Absolutely not sis! lol I do plan to wash 2-3 times a week. Scalp cleanliness is highly important. I think the more water we get on our hair the more maximum hydration we will have. We will start to see more growth, retention, better scalp care, and moisture. With more hydration we'll be able to see what our true curl pattern is. I think what keeps some Black women from washing multiple times a week is their wash day is so complex. Too many people use 4+ products. It really doesn't take all of that. But that goes into the conversation of how some of us have a hard time wearing our hair how it grows out of our scalp without manipulation.
@@kiykiyaaa I think 2-3 times a week is great actually! Now am I unhinged? Yes. Do I love y’all and see the benefits of daily? Yes. However, even the average girlie doesn’t wash their hair even once a week 😮💨 we gotta be radical to shake the table you know?
I wash every 5 days and my scalp love it! My scalp start to crave water by day 3 and love to be clean
@@Keepingupwithnayy You know it’s a crazy thing bc it’s like you “trained” your scalp? Idk how I got away with not washing my hair often in the past. WE LOVE WATERRRRRR 💦
I don't understand why they get mad about it either. Going several weeks is a no no!! I wash mine every other day. If I wait, It starts to stink by day 3. I washed my hair Monday. Today is Wednesday and it's starting to stink. Wash time!!

Thanks I used to always dim my light, dress down, disregard my achievements and make them look insignificant, because I get extremely bothered by people's envy. But not anymore.. Because I realised no matter what I do, they will continue to be envious. They won't love me, and they will always consider me a threat. It's about them and their insecurities, not me
This is enlightenment and I’m proud of you for getting here.
5:07 just say I shampooed my hair every day 😂
You have kinky hair not curly. Type 4 hair is more coily than curly. I have type 3c hair and even I can’t wash it everyday. I wash it every 3 days. So if I wash it Monday morning I have to wash it Thursday morning.
We are not supposed to wash hair daily. Remember we are not white our hair doesnt produce enough oil daily. It will become more dry.
Even white people don’t wash their hair every day or every other day. She trippin.
why cant we not like our hair like other races without people assuming you want long straight hair or dont like it because it's black. I always wanted regular black hair so called 4c, no i dont want it long. Also like any race of woman i want hair that styles easy and keeps a style . Can i be female withou black hatred being the scapegoat for how i feel? We need to growup as a raace and be ok and not have to say all blk hair is good , its like saying we all have to win. im an adult vi can deal with others being smarter or prettier, no my self worth is not tied to my hair. Why don't we start saying we are attracted to every blk person and we like fat same as we do skinny its disingenuous.

You’re so welcome! Happy to inspire you 😊
Washing bra strap to mid back 4c hair is not realistic for everyday. It can work for shorter hair but it's not necessary. It's fine to wash longer natural hair once a week - which is recommended by doctors
@@coffeewednesday553 Once a week is bare minimum honestly.
Right idky she keeps saying wash her hair everyday like our hair needs the natural oils to be thick and to grow faster 😅
I don’t know why you’re speaking in third person. That’s odd, address me directly especially since I’m in this comment thread.
@@EvieAswiti not odd, obviously it’s about you under this thread . Js, washing your hair everyday isn’t healthy
I disagree, and that’s okay. Enjoy your day, Yummi.
A solid hair care regimen is key!!! When I started straightening my hair more frequently, I really started to stick to my 2-week wash day routine and my hair is flourishing. Now I’m using wigs for a while just for its simplicity 😅
Thanks for emphasizing that! Our routines are what save us. If the wigs don’t damage your hair then I’m not mad at it!
Proud of you for trying it out ❤
Aw thanks! You were one of my biggest inspirations to start this journey 🥹🤗
Thanks for sharing! I am currently going through reconditioning myself with being comfortable being curly year round. Trying to follow the "straight natural" trend left my hair beyond damaged.
Oh really? Dang. I’m sorry. Give yourself a challenge! I was tempted to do a sew in this fall/winter but I’m like nope, I only have a few months left until 2025!
transitioning to adult friendships has been the biggest joy of my life--i can't be in people's pockets 24/7 nor should they be in mine. i do put it on the calendar to text friends about how they're doing at least once a week and try to make time for calls/in person hangouts once every couple of months or so. i had a rough time in middle and high school bc i had much less time freedom than most of my friends, but for the friendships that have stood the test of time, we're very close and will always be in each other's corner even if we're not talking every day. as for new friendships, my biggest tip is develop a love of learning about others, and all the behaviours that make you good at socialising will naturally follow even if it takes a while. love from a fellow diaspora kenyan :)))
