I see I'm not the only one who has searched washing natural hair daily lol. I also wash my hair more than once a week. I'm trying to go for every two days but I really do like every day. I just want to share what I've benefited from washing more than once a week Curl texture improvement (my curls have a smoother surface. Kinda like the smoothness of straight hair but coily in pattern) Curl definition without products. I can now see my curl pattern without the need of using any curl products. Reduced tangles, breakage and shedding (I discovered I get this when I use hair products that have a lot of heavy oils and butters). Growth (Washing my hair more than once a week has reduced the overload of hair products.) I stopped putting oils in my hair because I cannot stand the feeling of oily hair anymore. (I don't think my hair ever liked oil products to beginning with.) I think this is what a lot of influencers mean by staying consistent. You don't need a fancy routine just a routine that is the easiest for you. Also.. I never understand why people comment "Do what works for you." Like she's forcing anyone to wash their hair daily. I'm glad yall have a conscious to let yourselves be known. But yes this does work well. BUT! I'm going to put my own experience in. If heavy products lines like Shea Moisture, TGIN, or Carol's Daughter break your hair off. Don't use them! I would recommend brand's like L'oreal, Aussie or Garnier Frutics. Some people's hair does not do well with the black natural hair brands because they're just too heavy. This includes shampoos and conditioners.
I wash my hair about every two days and when it was shorter I use to do everyday. It grew like crazy. You’re absolutely right, especially if you’re a fitness girl!
omg I forgot to mention the working out part. The way the sweat in my scalp would do a thing 🤭 I don’t want my hair to smell like sweat My hair is growing like a weed rn can’t wait for it to thrive even more the next few months
I like to wash every 2-3 days! My scalp doesn’t dry and flake like it used to when I washed once every two weeks. And I love my hair smelling good!! Washing my hair more is almost like perfuming my hair, to me.
@@Afrodite96how would you do a twist out everyday? Do you have a lot of down time? nvrmd you said 2-3 days but I'm curious what someone with longer hair would do if they literally washed everyday like Elvie.
@@LethalLemonLime I have locs but I would wash my hair in the twists and just retwist them. Let them dry and style them in twists or occasionally do a twist out
Yes! I’m 4c (waist length) I’ve been daily washing since late 2020. I cut my hair off to a twa four times. My hair is moisturized, super manageable, shiny, smells fresh & my routine is simplified. I couldn’t have ever imagined my hair behaving so well. Keep at it, your hair is flourishing!
@@marginemondestin4227I would dry it with a microfiber towel (to quickly squeeze out the water without causing friction on my hair & then I either twisted it in 2-4 twists pinned flat on my head like a headwrap underneath my wig. I have thick hair but because it was damp from the wig it would lay flat. However it’s bulky now that it’s much longer but the curlier wigs I wore hid the bulk. I also would wear my hair in a drawstring ponytail which I wear 89% of the time. I’ve only blowdried my hair twice since twa. I may blowdry it this week which be the 1st time in 14 months. Or I may try a heatless stretch method. My hair is so unbelievably manageable, healthy & thriving due to daily washing that I don’t want to risk the softness, shine, damage from misuse or overuse of heat. I’ll probably use cool air to be safe. My type hair used to loc up into impossible tangles & hated water so daily washing transformed my hair! Game-changer. If my hair can do it any hair can do it! I don’t think you need to cut it but keep in mind I cut my hair because I had unwanted tangled locs from not being able to manage my type 4 hair. Daily washing my hair and if my hair tried to loc (which is rare) I can finger detangle within seconds.

same if i don’t shampoo my hair once a week i create more work for myself. i really need to do more like 2 washes a week and my scalp is so much healthier. it’s really just laziness nowadays coz back in elementary high school etc i didn’t have a choice but to wash a lot more frequently.
YESSSS!!!!! thank you so much for making this video. I have type 4 hair and have been washing my hair everyday since 2021. It has been such a game changer for me, i don't stress about things like working out anymore because I know I can just wash my hair after working out. I used to have pimples on my forehead, but it's all gone now ever since I started washing my hair daily. my scalp is healthy and my hair is growing just fine. i honestly think more black women need to adopt this life especially those who are active. I also only use gel and mousse to braid my hair into two pig tails.
That’s amazing! My forehead is clean and clear too. Glad you mentioned being an active girlie. The more I share my thoughts on my channel the more I realize that I’m not alone after all. Happy that you’re thriving too on this journey 💕
@@EvieAswiti thank you, I hope this becomes a more popular trend that helps black women realise our hair is not hard and we don't have to be prisoners of our hair.
I used to wash my hair everyday when I had a TWA for 4 years. I loved the fact that I didn’t have to fear water getting on my hair. My hair is longer now so I switched to 2-3 times a week in the last ten years but I still get crazy tangles. I want to try washing daily to see if my hair softens and is easier to detangle. Love your curls and your glowy skin today!
It’s actually much easier than you think. Now that I wash at least twice a week, I don’t get as many tangles and the washing process is much easier! Shedding is also verrrrry minimal.
I watched a Mrs Mississippi YT video and saw that she washed her hair everyday so I figured I had nothing to lose. I have fine 4 type relaxed hair that I washed twice a week and deep conditioned for 30-60 minutes with heat. Once I started washing daily I went from needing a touch up every 3-3 1/2 months to needing it after only 1 1/2 months. Because the roots stay so soft I can wait longer for a touch up if I choose. My hair is highly porous and would dry within an hour, now it takes hours to dry. I use a low sudsing shampoo and only leave the conditioner in for 2-5 minutes. No more pre-pooing , no conditioning with heat for long periods of time. Everyday is a good hair day and everyone at work notices and comments with surprise how fast my hair is growing. My hair dresser is in shock. Plus no more clipping my ends I have not put a scissor to my head since starting this process. The water detangles my hair so I barely comb . I wish I knew this all of my life . I even experimented washing my hair 2x daily with each shower it worked fine but I only did it for a few days and may try again during the summer . I use a nickel size of shampoo and apply to my scalp , I use a dollar size coin of conditioner and a dime size of leave in which I really don’t need but like to use. Although my hair is relaxed I don’t even use products formulated for relaxed hair. I’ve been messing around with Shea Moisture using different ones every night. I plan to play around with different brands . My hair smells delicious every day, it swings and rest comfortably on my back but I always put it up as it moves and stick to my lip gloss, and gets stuck under the seat belt strap. I wore it in in a single loose braid to the side that sat on my shoulder and I was amazed to feel my heavy braid lay along my neck and easily sit on my collar bone .. This is crazy , who knew? It is near impossible to find Black women that wash daily . There are maybe 3 here on YT that have videos but never followed up with updates and the others are daily co-washers which I am not. Can’t wait to see your progress.
This is so detailed and amazing! I’m so happy for you and can relate with everything you’re experiencing. Yes there aren’t too many girlies on YT talking about this so I’ll make sure to keep posting updates on my channel. Excited for my journey to progress!
@@EvieAswiti Just got home from work and I just let my hair down from a bun preparing to wash it. While in the mirror marveling at the weight of the hair falling out of the bun down to my shoulders and back I heard your notification ding. Green Beauty here on YT gave some info that made this all make sense. She says that our strands stay under the scalp coiling before it pushes through the scalp almost like an ingrown hair in reverse . So if the scalp is kept free of dead skin , debris and product there is nothing to block the process. Also sebum is stimulated by the massage the scalp gets during the washing/conditioning process. My hair has incredible shine. No expensive or special products . Another hair person that I can’t hair person I can’t recall the name said as long as conditioner is used the hair will withstand the washing. If our scalps can withstand everything else it has been subjected to why would it suffer from washing? Our skin hasn’t dried out from bathing. Check out Phillips Kingsley video : The importance of washing hair everyday. He has had a product line for many years. He is a white British man but he makes reference to Afro Caribbean hair as he is not in America.
Oh wow thank you for the info and suggestion of other resources! I get so much ppl trying to convince me to stop washing my hair daily. Idk if it’s cognitive dissonance or insecurity because they can’t take that their hair habits are not the same as my hair habits.
It doesn't have to be everyday. Evie probably does everyday right now because it's easier. As hair grows longer (because of water and shampooing often), she could transition to every 2 or 3 maybe 4 days. I will say though type 4 hair needs drenching water on scalp more than once a week. That's facts. Try it out. You don't always have to use shampoo. I use grease, so I do use shampoo. My hair is not dry because I replenish the dryness with the ultimate hydration... WATER. I add my leave in and seal with grease or a gel depends on style. Once my scalp tingles... usually 2 to 3 days later I shampoo again. Try it. Your hair may thank you.
Speak for the bw you know I wash my locs every 7 to 10 days even when I had loose hair I still did the same we’re not all on the same washing routine washing everyday is a bit much though
I ran to this video! The girls that get it, get it. Will definitely be doing this allllll summer. I used to do it as a teen and people thought I was crazy but my hair was so happy!
Yesssssss when I tell you my hair was talking to me in tongues after day 5 😊🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I still get so gassed about this and I’m so happy I can put this video out to the world
i absolutely love talking about our hair. you constantly bring up so many good points. if the 'traditional' methods of black hair practices had already been effective, more of us would NOT constantly rely on wigs and feel so insecure/not as beautiful without it. once you notice this, it is really hard to go back to seeing it as normal! such a great topic
I've started washing my hair more often so it's too soon to say its benefits but it just feels nice having a clean scalp after a shower makes you feel refreshed
I absolutely love washing my hair. I washed my hair daily and wore wash 'n gos for years and my hair was super healthy. I'm getting back to that routine!
I agree with you when it comes to products, buying products just because it says curly is not it. I honestly think it is a cash grab. I have very tightly coiled hair and it is very easy to take care of. Condition wash blowdry and cute style in less than 2 hours (it took me a while to get to this point). I wash my hair every 7 days. Washing regularly makes a massive difference. I've been toying with the idea of washing daily. Great video ❤
It’s definitely a cash grab! We the girlies are not falling for a 20-30% minimum price increase over products that have dang near the same ingredients and function as the “hair agnostic” products. No ma’am. You’re welcome and appreciate you for watching! 💕🫶🏾🤗
Anthony Dickey is the guru and he started it all! His method of washing it once a week and the other six days wetting your hair entirely and then just applying conditioner instead of shampooing is the best way for my hair…..although I wash once a week and wet condition it once a week ,I wet it daily. It works for my 4C hair. It is thriving using this method. I also use a a bond repair every 3 to 4 weeks as well as a water filter on my showehead
I have done this too, l have been washing hair faster too. It’s me sis, I did videos multiple videos of me washing hair daily. But l was washing my scalp daily my hair grew faster when it gets water and when the scalp was really clean
My mom has been saying this for years! Whenever we would go natural, she would say, wash your hair everyday it will grow. I thought this was normal until I heard from other TH-camrs that wash once a week - I thought thats crazy and wanted to do some research, which led me to your video. Wash your hair daily girls, if you know, you know!
So when I was natural three years ago, I did go through a period where I was washing my hair every three days I was in my Wash N’ Go phase where I was doing my best job at doing the wash and goes really good, and I noticed that when I would wash my hair and redo my wash and goals every three days they came out way better And my hair looked and felt nicer. The only reason why I stopped is because I saw a lot of not natural hair videos, stating that we should not be washing our hair no more than two weeks because our hair can dry out so I guess I wanted to “” follow the rules, but to be honest, washing my hair every three days while wearing a Wash N’ Go was really helping my hair.
I like seeing black women talk about their hair. Im a dude with locs and i typically wash my hair once a week and rinse it daily (spring and summer). Hair is pretty soft.
I used to do this between 2013-2015 and my hair loved it and grew so quickly. I’d shampoo & condition, and use a leave in & grease then wear a cute fro, or sometimes attempt a wash & go but that was too much work. I always made sure that I was well put together like yourself. I must admit that I succumbed to criticism & stopped doing my hair like that because I felt the pressure to fit in as at the time I was in a long-term relationship with a non-black person and a lot of black people including family were calling me white etc. It wasn’t as popular as it is now for UK black women to date interracially and because of this I switched to wearing braids/faux locs. Washing was then reduced to 2/4 times per month. I now wash & DC weekly and apply leave in and grease. I was rather young at the time and now have grown to not listen to peoples opinions about me as I know what’s best for myself and lifestyle, I’m returning to daily washing and I’m so glad that other black woman are catching on, it truly is soft life. Thank you so much for sharing.
Hair experts agree that type 4 hair needs *frequent* moisture which evidently comes from water. I think CLEANSING hair everyday is a more appropriate word than “washing”, as washing usually involves the use of foaming suds which strips hair of its natural oils. You can CLEANSE your hair everyday with water and conditioner, and weekly with a creamy non-foaming shampoo like Curlsmith Conditioning Wash.
Girl please don’t forget that a moisture and protein balance is key to healthy hair. Watch out for moisture overload, I would advise a protein treatment 1 a month or 1 twice a month if your gonna wash it so frequently ( ofcourse also depends if your low or high porosity). But I do notice a difference it looks longer and thicker. I love how your hair suits you so well and really bring out your soft femininity 🫶🏾
Thanks love! You’re gonna love my daily washing products follow up video. I mention the protein treatment I use 😊🙌🏾💕💕💕 Also I thinking with me spending more time in my hair by washing it more, I definitely embraced my femininity more bc I used to not feel as beautiful or girly with my hair like this. Eventually I snapped out of the brainwashing 😮💨
I started the Brazilian hair schedule "cronograma capilar " and they recommend to wash at least 3x/week and to use a specific type of conditioner on some days( i use the app meu cronograma capilar). I love it : soft hair , fresh scalp , tiny breakage and shedding. It takes me 40 min to 1h max to wash and style. My only issue is drying time , i started drying with my towel before styling and with blowdryer after styling so that i don't sleep with wet hair. My hairstyles are simple, mostly roll and tuck updos. I really recommend trying it before saying you can't ❤.
Thanks for sharing. I’m glad someone is talking about this. I’m an every 2-3 day wash girly and never had any issues. I washed daily when I was a bit younger and during my college days. People always looked at me like I was crazy and told me my hair won’t grow washing so often. It was mid back by that point (longer than it had ever been in my life). I’ve never understood the wash every six weeks (let alone months) trend. A clean scalp is definitely the foundation for having healthy hair. I chopped my hair off last April and wanted to maintain it short for a while but since it’s grown so much I’m starting a growth journey to see if I can get it past my longest length.
Love your red lipstick and this response! I’m excited to see where this daily/frequent hair washing takes me. It’s important to show that we are not allergic to shampoo.
Thank you! Red lippies are my weakness lol. I've been binge watching your channel since I found you the other day and I'm loving your content. @@EvieAswiti
When i had a buzz cut and a TWA I washed daily! It was quick and easy. Once I reached a certain length i started washing weekly. Detangling gets crazy and takes too much time for everyday. But I understand if you are doing wash and gos only and first day hair is your preference it makes sense!
Right! Yeah I’ve always been a lover of wash and gos. I’m curious to see how I manage this when it gets longer. I’ll probs switch to every other day or back to twice a week. Catch me during autumn and see if I still keep this routine up! 💕🤗
@CambieSweets Thank you! My hair doesn’t tangle now in the shower. I don’t see how it can form tangles in a 24 hour period even when it gets longer unless I was using a pick comb for volume everyday
I couldn't imagine washing my hair everyday 😢. My hair is almost down to my knees, I wash every 2-3 weeks. I find that washing less and, low manipulation retains length.
@sereniyah yes! My hair was already waist length and I made the decision to go longer just so I can see if I can achieve it. Protective styles are key. I just use water and blue magic in my hair, and twist in semi mini twists. When my hair is in twists I only wash 1x a month. But when my hair is down I wash every 2-3. So basically all I do is use water and grease on my strands (not scalp).
I’m a weekly washer. Have been for over 15 years and cannot understand why we were ever told not to wash often. Love it! It’s about BSL so washing daily may be too much for me. I do agree with you…my hair is sooooo soft and moisturized that I thought I had moisture overload at first lol! Nope! It just feels amazing! This is a great video. We need to stop washing so little and learn to take care of our hair. Nothing like a gorgeous head full of healthy hair! Oh, and I’m kind of obsessed with wash day lol!
So I’m white with stick straight hair. Videos like this promoting daily washing are hard to find, for any hair type. My hair is fine but I have a lot of it. When I was a teen up until about 19 yrs old, I washed every single day. My hair was super thick and voluminous and grew SO fast. Then I got sucked into the trends of washing less frequently and my hair suffered. I get oily super fast no matter how long I “train” my scalp (scalp training has been disproven btw.) I found that the longer I’d go between washes, the more I’d have to do to my hair to keep it looking somewhat presentable. So it actually took up more time out of my day. I finally decided enough was enough so I’m back to daily washing. It’s honestly a lot easier for me. I just wash, condition, apply leave in conditioner and sometimes an oil, then just let it dry! I’m trying to grow it out past my shoulders and I know that doing this will definitely speed up the process. It’s also nice to have a good hair day every day haha 😄
Thank you for sharing! It’s so interesting that we both have the same hair routine even though we have different hair textures. It goes to show that some hair “rules” are meant to be broken and I’m happy that daily washing works for you and also for me too. Appreciate you for watching, love. 💕💗☺️
I 1st heard of this concept from the Anthony Dicky wash and go method. He says in the same way straight hairs wash daily to remove oil build up, curly coils should wash everyday to replenish moisture. I've been doing it since January with great results. My hair is your current length. It's more manageable and feels softer. Some days I'll just deep condition and rinse, most days I'll shampoo. One day this week I just rinsed with water and added no leave in or styler. It looked great, curls were totally defined! But it got a bit frizzy by the end of the day. Glad I found your channel! We need this message.
Wow never heard of him but love the concept! I add a hair oil to my scalp before bedtime once or twice a week sometimes and it makes my hair even softer and bomb after shampooing it out the next morning! So happy daily washing works amazing for you ♥️💕🙌🏾
What type hair do you have, and how long is it now after 4 years? Is it waist length? I really would like to know cause I'm considering the evidence of washing hair daily, to see if it's worth trying. 🤔
I agree with you. I wash my natural 4C often, sometimes three times a week. Yet everyone around me says that it isn't necessary. They do it biweekly or monthly. That will never work for me.
Anthony Dickie, the New York hairstylist, encourages 4c's to wash daily. I have been doing so since early this year and my hair is more pliable and well-hydrated. I tend to use cleansing conditioner instead of a sudsing shampoo.
Hi!! your video was the first one to show up after my 'daily hair wash' search. For the past month I've been washing my hair daily with shampoo + conditioner and I've never in my 29 years of life seen it this healthy. My scalp no longer itches and my hair is actually retaining length, i experience MINIMAL shedding and i can notice the growth!!!. It's amazing and I'm never going back. I alternate between Redken All Soft mega curls and Tresemme moisture rich line. NB: you have gained a new subbie!! 😊
That’s awesome! I’m so glad that daily washing also works for you! I’ve cut my hair 3x this year and my hair has grown back each time in between cuts so nice and healthy. ALL of the benefits you mentioned make me excited to hop in the shower and wet my scalp 🙂↕️ Thanks and Welcome to my channel! 💕💕💕💕💕
Every summer 🙋🏾♀️ it was the first thing I did after my big chop 😌 and I had every intention of swimming daily so I knew something was gonna give-it was gonna be the wash routine.
So happy to see you make this video! I’ve been doing this since around October and it’s a true game changer. I used to cowash daily when I first went natural and my hair was thriving, then started listening to folks say that once a week was enough. Don’t get me wrong, different people require different things but the more often I wet my hair, the better.
I am starting to wash my hair daily. I am truly amazed at how my hair is responding. I've been nature since 08 and I had no growth. Finally I feel like I can get some growth. Thanks for speaking on this.
You hit some really good points in this video. I’ve noticed especially as a teen that it’s easy to get wrapped up in wigs and laces and sometimes I often find myself feeling inadequate if I my hair isn’t “done “ I plan on opting out and rocking my twa and wearing headwraps until it gets to the desired length for me to get locs. Thank you for the insight!
When my hair was shorter I definitely did a daily wash!!! Nothing better than having a clean scalp and healthy hair, it's good hygiene too! I always get compliments on how good my hair looks and smells. Now that my hair is much longer I wash more like every other day or so.
When I was working at goodwill a few years ago, I had no choice but to wash my hair daily at one point because if I didn’t, I would just feel gross. I was working with a lot of nasty clothes that people didn’t wash very well before donating and a lot of the bins we had to sort through were full of trash. Anyway, my hair was not drying out or anything and I actually really enjoyed washing my hair so often because I felt so good and clean. I like getting my hair wet first of all…and I love the feeling of my hair when it is refreshed. Plus, it seemed to thrive off of more water. I think as black people, we assume that our hair is not supposed to be manipulated too much, however, washing your hair in my opinion is not so much of a manipulation as it is a maintenance. Find a shampoo that doesn’t strip your hair of its moisture if you are worried about that. There’s tons of product lines to choose from!
I wash my hair every 3 days. I used to wash once a week, but my hair thrives more on washing every 3 days. I make sure I only use water and conditioner, or a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. Depending on how my hair feels. Once a month, I do a clarifying shampoo. With the sulphate free shampooing, I focus on my scalp and the last 2 minutes on my hair. With the clarifying shampoo, I focus on my hair, and the last two minutes on my scalp. I can tell it works for me, because I had bleach damage, and it got worse when I washed my hair about once a week. Now that I wash it more often, the breakage is much, much less. And my hair grows faster. Probably due to a cleaner scalp.
Refer to La Toya Ebony and the Anthony Dickey Method. I started washing my hair on Sundays and Co-rinsing my hair the remainder of the week starting November 2023. The quality of my hair improved. My hair grew faster and I had less split ends and less shedding. One other point, to detangle, all I did was finger detangle.
Yep, I wash my hair every 24 - 48 hours min/max. I use a diluted black soap (raw black soap & water with a little coffee cos I like the smell) w focus on the scalp, then apply shea butter on dry hair. I wear it in mini braids that I rebraid every 3 months, easiest thing I have ever done with my hair, scalp and hair is happy *Also there's no buildup in the braids due to washing it often & not using much product
I love this, I just feel like I’m using so much product everyday - but then I thought about it, I use soap, toothpaste, shea butter, deodorant, perfume, almost all hygiene products everyday lol why not test my hair as well as I treat the rest of my body? Also, I suggest not using a harsh shampoo daily- As I Am Coconut CoWash is amazing for daily washing! Also, if you use products that are curly girl friendly, cowashing woth regular conditioner works too! I use Shea Moisture Coconut Conditioner for cowashing
Thank GOODNESS make this a thing bc I swear I quit doing hair because people would not wash their hair for months at a time it was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever experienced. Then expect me to work miracles. I wash once a week. 2 weeks max and that’s if I’m depressed as hel
This is really interesting... I've been super into the science of hair lately, and the biggest takeaway I've gotten from experts in the field and my own research is that the swelling and contracting of the hair shaft via heavy hygral saturation could potentially lead to the degradation of the cuticle. Pair this with frequent deep cleansing agents like *some* sulfates, and this could lead to a rough, "dry" tactile feeling to the hair. However, its important to note that an overwhelming majority of this research is done on straight hair. I was washing my hair frequently in the summer (every 4-6 days or so) and my hair felt...good. What I think these studies miss is that, yes, while the prolonged swelling of the hair shaft could jeopardize cuticle integrity (think of keep the hair wet for several hours), for curly/coily/and kinky hair where every bend is a weak point, *elasticity* is a very important component to hair health by increasing the tensile force required for the hair to break. Water is the only thing that can provide this, and while daily washing is not conducive to my lifestyle in particular, I'm curious to see how elasticity (water concentration in the hair cortex) and lubrication (an occlusive lipid layer sealing the cuticle i.e. oil, conditioner, butter, etc.) could increase the tensile strength of afro hair thus reducing breakage. I'm particularly interested in seeing just how much water must exist in the cortex to do this: 10%? 90%? Long winded way to say I'm very interested in how this experiment goes for you! 🥰
The reason I don't believe this study is because our hair swells day in and day out from the moisture in the air to the steam from the shower. If constantly drenching our hair in moisture was bad, why do we have to moisturize our hair so much to keep it from drying out and breaking off? Our hair thrives on water. Not enough water creates splitting like sheet rock. Now take into account how water resistant most of our (black people) hair is, yet we go for days without properly opening our cuticles by a shampoo or higher ph surfactant to cleanse and open the cuticle to allow moisture in it makes sense that our hair has to be clean to become moisturized effectively. And I usually moisturize with low ph leave in conditioner (kinky curly knot today) and seal with grease.
I’m gonna keep it going due to my hair being so happy. I’m not sure if that study included subjects who blow dry their hair and not leave it wet for so long. I use heat in my hair after washing it so it’s usually fully dry bc I don’t wanna air dry and wait. I’ll do a follow up video on products and of course another update around the summertime to see if this really is the bomb for my hair. Being the guinea pig will be fun 😆
Girlllll I'm saying! I used to suffer from SEVERELY dry hair and I seemingly tried everything! vm Once I started washing my hair daily with a clarifying shampoo and skip the rinse-out conditioner but put a low PH leave in conditioner (Kinky Curly Knot Today) right after I get out the thr shower to close the cuticle and I seal with my blue magic hair grease, my hair did a complete transformation! I can't stop touching my hair because it stays so soft all day long! I just think certain people's hair thrives when you keep it clean especially if you have fine strands but low porosity it means it's hard to stay moisturized unless you open the cuticle with a shampoo (high ph) to allow water in but you strands are fine so they get "gunky" very very easily that stops water from permeating the hair.
omg wuuut???!!! That’s amazing. My hair is on the normal to finer side for sure. Okay, I’m gonna keep going bc I walked past a mirror yesterday out in public and I was so astonished with how good my hair looked in the sunlight. I didn’t expect so many people to have the same good experience with daily washing so I def can’t wait to do an update on daily washing in the summer! Stay tuned 🙌🏾💕
Omg, I’m Kenyan too🎉. I relate to this. I’m so glad I found you in this era of challenging myself to keep my hair out of braids. When I was in college, I’d wet my hair daily when I was in between protective styles. Looking back, it was the softest my fro had ever been.
habariiiiiii but no fr - can we normalize doing the things that our hair LOVES no matter how unpopular it is? I’m tryna get the girlies out of group think. Bc who told us that we shouldn’t be washing our hair often?
I think more than once a week if you workout consistently is definitely needed. I’m recently noticing this with my hair. Also letting hair dry before putting in buns or putting scarf on your hair
Do whatever works for you and your hair. My hair is MBL, kinky, and thick so there's no way I'm going to wash & detangle my hair everyday. Listen to your own hair.
THIS! I remember when my hair used to THRIVED I washed daily. When I started "experimenting" and did as what society told me that washing daily was unhealthy and all the BS regarding "hair training" - literally led to baldness. I have this theory that if the human body is made of 80% water, and that we're very similar to plants, shouldn't we be watering our hair daily for growth?? Anyway, ridiculous theory but I'm going to go back to washing my hair daily now.
I wash my hair every other day per my dermatologist instructions due to a scalp condition. No hair regimen is a 'one size fits all.' everybody's scalp and hair reacts differently. Some people have to go longer in between washes. I think everyone needs to do what is right for them.
Your hair looks great! I love that you mentioned freedom. I currently wash my har once a week and blow it out. This doesn't work well in the summer. I have fine hair and don't like how braids look on me. I'm excited to try out washing my hair more frequently. Going to try every other day before I jump into daily. Thanks for posting!!
Thank you!! I love daily washing and my hair loves it. I had an itch to straighten my hair but I’ll wait until late summer. The humidity is on 10 right now.
I think maybe sprays a mist of water for hydration. Maybe a a splash in the shower. Not a fool wash day. This definitely depends on the person and scalp.
The point is that if you wash often, it stops becoming a wash day and turns into a wash hour because its not a tangled mess. Most our problems with tangles are mostly because we have weeks worth of shed hair that intertwined with the hair still on your head. If you go a month without a wash, that’s a minimum of 3,000 shed strand that need to come out. Thats more work
Wait til we find out we are mermaids.🎉❤😊 When I had locs, I went through a bit of washing my hair daily and my hair thrived. Now I'm back to a big chop, this video is a great reminder. 🎉
I haven’t gotten to washing it daily but I do remember being 14-17 washing my hair almost everyday and my hair was moisturized and soft . I noticed my hair growing a lot at that time so I’m not sure why I’ve been off and on about washing my hair more frequently since then . I think I may have just gotten very lazy 😅 but I will see how it goes now that I’ve been consistent with the health of my hair .
I wash my hair 3 to 5 days. I started around February because of an itchy scalp. I was thinking that I may have a scalp problem or that my scalp was dry. I really love it.
I'm so happy to come across your video. Ive been thinking about doing this kind of experiment. Products today are much better for our hair and I think we can get away with it. As of now I'm washing my hair 2-3 times a week.
Yes I am shook with how products on the lower end and higher end have leveled up so much! I’m glad you found me too! I’ll def do an update by the summer time 😉
Looking gorgeous love! Love the necklace set. I think weekly works well for me. It’s like skin cycling the hair definitely needs break and time for the oil to fully go through the coils. But I’m happy it works for you
Thank you so much friend! As long as we wash our hair at the very least once a week our hair will really thrive and reap the benefits. I find that when my hair is straightened, the natural oils and sebum really dresses my hair up with the yummy nutrients
Water fatigue. I don't wet mine every day dont need to. Way too much hair, drying time at least 5 to 6 hours, and it retains moisture, and i have no scalp issues. Whatever works for you.😊
We really been lied to. Washing my hair more often has been a game changer. Its so much more manageable! Low key we been taught to push out wash days because we dont want to deal with our hair tbh. And as someone with thick full hair I get it. But the more you wash it the easier it becomes!
Wow! Glad to see you’ve made these changes in your routine and are seeing the benefits. Keep it up! 👍🏾 Oh and yes, we have been blatantly lied to. But what else is new?
i agree girl… if we washed our scalps more often we’d have much healthier scalps and more growth. and constant water is great. i think the hair washing once a month is a myth because i really can’t wrap my head around the itchiness or smell from unwashed hair. it literally coincides with what weve seen happening in the conforming to straight hair standards for centuries. it makes so much sense now that we’re in a period of rebirth for black hair health and acceptance. we know better.
We definitely know better in 2024. Every other ethnicity washes their hair more frequently than us and look at their hair health. Makes me wonder if this one simple step is the key to opening up us to accept our hair in its natural state bc washing it often would mean we’d be forced to see our hair un-manipulated from hair that is 24/7 365 straightened, weaved, braided down for a wig, etc.
Absolutely!!! Our hair needs moisture. Washing daily or every other day is needed for type 4 and 3 textures. For protective styles, you should wash your hair after 7 days. I co-wash every other day and use suds for build up every other week. It’s so sad about the miss information about type 3 and 4 textured hair. Also how our hair is “handled” like it’s a burden 😢. With proper knowledge type 3 and 4 textures can flourish and grow without wigs and extensions 😊
My hair is longer now so i wash my hair every 7 days . Now when I was bald and eventually grew in the phase I washed it daily . I don’t see how ppl go weeks and weeks without washing it lol that would drive me crazy
This older woman at my old job told me she washes her hair daily and I looked at her like, "what!" I'ma try that lol. My hair is growing hella fast lol.
I wash my hair with shampoo once a week BUT I rinse my hair every day with water or spray rose water on my hair every day. No oil, grease, conditioner or moisturizer and I kid you not my curly hair which I’m trying to loc loves it.
I daily co washed in college when I’d just gone natural. My hair was flourishing! How I have a health condition that caused me to lose a lot of hair so I’m about to revisit things that had my mane thriving before.
I noticed when I washed my hair once or twice a week it would shed. When I start washing my hair every day or every other day it became STRONGER!!! I use Pantene (repair and protect) shampoo and conditioner
I’m happy you see the benefits from washing daily. I’m making a video this week explaining the scientific benefits of daily hair washing for type 4 hair
@@EvieAswiti it took some time but I finally created a channel to discuss the importance of hair washing and its effect on kinky textured hair. It’s 4 part video series. Hope you enjoy!
Hey girl! You are so pretty and you look amazing with your natural hair. I'll still be extra careful about washing your hair every day because the ingredients in shampoos are formulated for scalps that are incredibly oily; if your scalp doesn't have that much build-up you can end up causing your scalp to be irritated. For some ladies this leads to hair loss or noted decreased hair density from their norm - and this often only becomes apparent after 6 months. I've also found that 4c's and even some 4a's who tight coils who become frequent washers (2-3x a week or even using an insanely strong shampoo once a week) often end up having to be dependent on styling products to maintain their coil or experience so much tangling/splits and dryness when their hair is coily that they have to blow-dry frequently if their wash and go's become non-existent. 95% of the time myself and these girls included felt that our hair was more hydrated. Hopefully you don't face those issues, but if you do then hopefully you are able to pivot.
Hey! Thank you so much you are so sweet 🥹 I appreciate the advice. I hope I don’t go down that route either. I see myself reducing the frequency from time to time bc I do go back and forth with straightening my hair. I’ll def do an update on this in the upcoming months for sure! Hope you stick around to see💕♥️
The ONLY reason we were taught to not wash our hair daily is b/c of slavery. Most of us did not live in locations where water was accessible let alone any products catered to our hair type-the solution was to use petroleum (grease), bind it up and cover it to protect from the elements. This has literally been proven. We still are using the methods of when we were oppressed and that’s why natural hair manageability has us in a negative chokehold… I have 4b hair & it got so dry I thought my hair was 4c and was just destined to be uncooperative-when really my hair was just dry & untrained. Since I’ve been daily co-washing with actual conditioner, not the “cowash” they put on a label which is really just a moisturizing shampoo- for the past 4mos my curl pattern has literally become more uniformed to type 4b, my low porosity is now NORMAL & for the 1st time I don’t have to use combs or brushes & can just finger detangle! 4c hair is not “dry” with 0 curl pattern like we’ve been told, It can be VERY moisturized & VERY manageable & the coils are most certainly there!! My hair is longer & I have no problem drying my hair even in the winter. I use 3 products (conditioner, leave in, styler) & do my wash n go all in the shower 15-20min on a slow day, shake & go! I shampoo once a week & clarify once a month. I Haven’t had braids, a wig or weave in since! If you have tighter type 4 hair and it’s long you can definitely do this! It’s not as time consuming as you think.
@@shireads2954 are we talking about the capitols or the more isolated towns? Both have products that are mostly derived from THEIR regions that cater to their hair needs-unlike in America or Europe. Yes they have some of the big name brands there as we do here BUT they also have access to natural, organic products that actually work that we don’t because they’re region-specific. Natural is not a “thing” in most places over there so they don’t ever really have to “go natural” but more so just focus on maintaining the hair on their head.
I believe this works for her because she has short hair. If she had thicker, longer, higher density hair, it’ll be different. This works for the state she’s in, if not your hair would just be in perpetual dampness/wetness.
I washed daily in high school when relaxed because I read you shouldn’t use curling irons on dirty hair. My hair flourished while I was wearing a layered style. I grew it out and started wearing wrap/bob. It flourished then with weekly washes. After my chop in 1994, I would shampoo on day and co wash the next. I transitioned to 2strands that got moisture every day and weekly washes. My locks got washed or co washed just about daily. When I took out my locks, I would do wash n gos daily (cowash) and shampoo as needed. You are reminding me MY HAIR LOVES WATER AND BEING WASHED
There is something MAGICAL about washing my hair! Every time I wash my hair I feel sexy and brand new. I wash my hair at least ONCE a week! Twice is enough for me though but I would love to do it daily but I have a husband and a kid and I just don’t have that kinda time 😂😂😂 But congrats 🥂
I washed my hair daily when it was short. However, I didn't use a sulfate shampoo. I was told sulfates can break down the hair and can cause damage over time. My hair is waist length now, so I wash twice a week now.
I personally washed my hair 3 to 4 times a week every other day because my hair needs to be hydrated and it stays hydrated that way if not, I will have dangerous and dry, scout dry air and a lot of breakage and that is how you retain length once you style, your hair and the style was not supposed to stay like that for a weekor two weeks or a month or six weeks or whatever people are trying to go for
fyi - watch this if you have a dirty scalp. 👉 th-cam.com/video/L9L3amltGDk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jToMuFK5c6cbWZZd
I see I'm not the only one who has searched washing natural hair daily lol. I also wash my hair more than once a week. I'm trying to go for every two days but I really do like every day. I just want to share what I've benefited from washing more than once a week
Curl texture improvement (my curls have a smoother surface. Kinda like the smoothness of straight hair but coily in pattern)
Curl definition without products. I can now see my curl pattern without the need of using any curl products.
Reduced tangles, breakage and shedding (I discovered I get this when I use hair products that have a lot of heavy oils and butters).
Growth (Washing my hair more than once a week has reduced the overload of hair products.)
I stopped putting oils in my hair because I cannot stand the feeling of oily hair anymore. (I don't think my hair ever liked oil products to beginning with.)
I think this is what a lot of influencers mean by staying consistent.
I started doing it every day and I see improvement.
Yes! Aussie works the best for my 4A hair. I get the most slip and moisture. Black brands don’t work for me.
I wash my hair about every two days and when it was shorter I use to do everyday. It grew like crazy. You’re absolutely right, especially if you’re a fitness girl!
omg I forgot to mention the working out part. The way the sweat in my scalp would do a thing 🤭 I don’t want my hair to smell like sweat
My hair is growing like a weed rn can’t wait for it to thrive even more the next few months
I like to wash every 2-3 days! My scalp doesn’t dry and flake like it used to when I washed once every two weeks. And I love my hair smelling good!! Washing my hair more is almost like perfuming my hair, to me.
Yes!!! Perfumery for the hair! Butter soft vibes for the hair! 🧈
What style do you do between washes?
@@vaneziahamilton I have microlocs! But if I didn’t I’d probably have twists/twist outs
What’s your daily wash routine? Do you blow dry daily?
How did you style it when your hair was in the that short medium length when you washed it everyday?
@@marginemondestin4227I would dry it with a microfiber towel (to quickly squeeze out the water without causing friction on my hair & then I either twisted it in 2-4 twists pinned flat on my head like a headwrap underneath my wig.

"When do we get to be carefree?" hit like no other! Whether we wash daily or not: give us us free!
To freedommmmmm!!! *Nicki voice
I am definitely looking for hair freedom, like the microlocs ladies always say
Amistad!
def twice a week works best for me. detangling in less than 10mins. more frequent washing def has benefits!
Absolutely bc reducing detangling time is honestly a godsend. Perioso.
same if i don’t shampoo my hair once a week i create more work for myself. i really need to do more like 2 washes a week and my scalp is so much healthier. it’s really just laziness nowadays coz back in elementary high school etc i didn’t have a choice but to wash a lot more frequently.
Thank you for this, I’m definitely going to wash more frequently now.
YESSSS!!!!! thank you so much for making this video.
@Queen-qq7nd Yessss, our hair is not a prison. My hair is so easy. I won’t be the only girlie who will experience that. Perioso. 😌👏🏾
Anthony Dickey also advocates daily washing.
Thank you so much! I like the versatility of switching up your routine based on hair needs and hair changes. Appreciate you for watching and sharing 😊
Thinking of daily hair washing 😮 sends my stress levels up.
😂😂😂😂 my channel is supposed to be a calming sit-down-on-the-couch-and-destress channel
My scalp is too dry.
Way UP!!!!😢😢
Do what works for you man I couldn’t personally wash my hair daily bc who got time? Her hair isnt that long so maybe it’s easier for her.
Me too, now I relax every 4 months
When my hair feels dry, its time to wash it
BW definitely need to start washing their hair more frequently! But daily is crazy
Watch until the end sweets I’m a mad woman but im onto something - im laying the keys down 😂😂😂🔑💕
@@EvieAswitiI wash my hair every week. Back in the day I use to wash my hair every month.
I can’t imagine how I survived back then 😂😂😂😂
It doesn't have to be everyday.
I used to wash my hair once a month because I was told that’s how it works but now I wash it 2-3 times a month
Yesssssss when I tell you my hair was talking to me in tongues after day 5 😊🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I still get so gassed about this and I’m so happy I can put this video out to the world
Your amazing....I love washing my hair daily...
My mom gets mad at me and I don't care 😅
i absolutely love talking about our hair. you constantly bring up so many good points. if the 'traditional' methods of black hair practices had already been effective, more of us would NOT constantly rely on wigs and feel so insecure/not as beautiful without it.
once you notice this, it is really hard to go back to seeing it as normal! such a great topic
Yes, Sakura - once you see it, you can’t unsee it. Freeing yourself from the ‘black hair’ matrix is a journey!
Same, and I’m so excited because i hope this becomes more popular!
But they were effective. At least for me growing up.
I've started washing my hair more often so it's too soon to say its benefits but it just feels nice having a clean scalp after a shower makes you feel refreshed
Yep the therapy it gives is chefs kiss. Also the clean smell 🥰
I absolutely love washing my hair. I washed my hair daily and wore wash 'n gos for years and my hair was super healthy. I'm getting back to that routine!
Yay let me know how that goes!
I wash once a week, but I'm open minded. I'm listening...and you're beautiful 😍
Thank you! Give it a try for a week and see how your hair feels!
BINGO!
I love washing my hair every 2/3 days.. it’s so refreshing
My mom has been saying this for years! Whenever we would go natural, she would say, wash your hair everyday it will grow. I thought this was normal until I heard from other TH-camrs that wash once a week - I thought thats crazy and wanted to do some research, which led me to your video. Wash your hair daily girls, if you know, you know!
the girls that get it, get it!
I get it and so true
I fell for “the rules” too, but then it made me bald, which led to my 2nd big chop. This time around I’m a rebel, baby!
When I had natural hair I washed my hair daily! It made me feel clean from head to toe and my hair actually grew 😊
Love thaaaaaat 👏🏾
I like seeing black women talk about their hair. Im a dude with locs and i typically wash my hair once a week and rinse it daily (spring and summer). Hair is pretty soft.
Represent for the men! Glad to know your hair is soft and kept
This was eye opening and relatable. You’re so welcome and happy that you’re doing what works for you again. ☺️
I mention the protein treatment I use 😊🙌🏾💕💕💕
Also I thinking with me spending more time in my hair by washing it more, I definitely embraced my femininity more bc I used to not feel as beautiful or girly with my hair like this. Eventually I snapped out of the brainwashing 😮💨
Missississppi lady advocates washing hair daily or every other day and just greasing scalp and hair as a conditioner which is what I am doing.,
She says every 2-3 days.
@TaneshiaNicole Aww thank you! i love red lippies too. Especially the sheer formulas and jelly glosses 💋
@@EvieAswiti girl yessss! Keep doing what works. It’s thriving. And you’ll adjust naturally cause you know your hair better than anyone🙌🏾
@panamaniantwix2458 These are the Fendi facts! 📠
@@EvieAswitia shower brush will be your friend as your hair grows longer. I was left in disbelief at how efficiently I could detangle.
Are you a type 4 natural?
@@SH-vj2ce yes, but it's a mixture. Type 4 in the back and longer than my looser hair.
Omg, to your knees? Drop some tips 😂❤
@sereniyah also a healthy diet with fats, protein, vitamins and minerals will help a lot. I'm vegan, so my source are produce.
Love this! I'm here for it. Will go from weekly to 2x a week, then to daily (my dry high porosity hair will love it!)
Yes!!! Come back and let us know how it’s working for you ♥️♥️♥️
I’m a weekly washer.
Love this! Yes I love washing my hair. Feels like butter every time. Happy to spread the good news 🗞️
So happy daily washing works amazing for you ♥️💕🙌🏾
He also said think of your hair like a jerri curl, it’s never dry 😂 you want those nice juicy curls!

What type hair do you have, and how long is it now after 4 years? Is it waist length? I really would like to know cause I'm considering the evidence of washing hair daily, to see if it's worth trying. 🤔
Wow amazing ❤ What do you use to avoid too much friction with daily washing ? My strands ade SO fine 😢
I agree with you. I wash my natural 4C often, sometimes three times a week. Yet everyone around me says that it isn't necessary. They do it biweekly or monthly. That will never work for me.
How long is your hair?

So happy to see you make this video! I’ve been doing this since around October and it’s a true game changer. I used to cowash daily when I first went natural and my hair was thriving, then started listening to folks say that once a week was enough. Don’t get me wrong, different people require different things but the more often I wet my hair, the better.
Yep watering my hair like a plant feels so refreshing
I am starting to wash my hair daily. I am truly amazed at how my hair is responding. I've been nature since 08 and I had no growth. Finally I feel like I can get some growth. Thanks for speaking on this.
Oh wow this is truly so amazing to read. You’re so welcome and keep it up!!!
You’re so welcome! Happy you have this level of agency as a teen. I’m excited for you and your journey, love. 💕🫶🏾♥️
When my hair was shorter I definitely did a daily wash!!! Nothing better than having a clean scalp and healthy hair, it's good hygiene too! I always get compliments on how good my hair looks and smells. Now that my hair is much longer I wash more like every other day or so.
I love the hair compliments I get now with the smell and how it looks!
Thank you for sharing your story. If people tried it, then they would see the difference
@@EvieAswiti Agreed 👍🏾
Yeah! My hair dresser this week told me that my ends were the best they’ve ever looked
Yep, I wash my hair every 24 - 48 hours min/max. I use a diluted black soap (raw black soap & water with a little coffee cos I like the smell) w focus on the scalp, then apply shea butter on dry hair. I wear it in mini braids that I rebraid every 3 months, easiest thing I have ever done with my hair, scalp and hair is happy
*Also there's no buildup in the braids due to washing it often & not using much product
I’ve been washing my hair every single day and have experienced little to no breakage . It’s definitely a game changer.
love that!
@@EvieAswiti I’m looking forward to it! Love the energy you bring in your videos!
@abcisme Aww I appreciate that thank you so much! I’m still laughing at my 40 days and 40 nights girl math 🤭😂
Girlllll I'm saying! I used to suffer from SEVERELY dry hair and I seemingly tried everything! vm
Once I started washing my hair daily with a clarifying shampoo and skip the rinse-out conditioner but put a low PH leave in conditioner (Kinky Curly Knot Today) right after I get out the thr shower to close the cuticle and I seal with my blue magic hair grease, my hair did a complete transformation!

Super beneficial for the fine hair girlies!
Lol. You are a smart woman. I grew my hair on a 1€ shampoo. Black women are always exploited with all these labels and it won’t be me.
Exactly like I’m tired of being played in my face 🙃 Thank you love
I think more than once a week if you workout consistently is definitely needed. I’m recently noticing this with my hair. Also letting hair dry before putting in buns or putting scarf on your hair
Good for you girl I’m with it and will be making the change
Thanks hun
@@eriacrea Love love love this. Please update me bc I can’t go back now.
Exactly. The only to treat dehydrated hair is with more water just like the rest of the body lies hydration
I wash my hair every other day per my dermatologist instructions due to a scalp condition. No hair regimen is a 'one size fits all.' everybody's scalp and hair reacts differently. Some people have to go longer in between washes. I think everyone needs to do what is right for them.
For sure. As long as the girlies have agency, I am happy 😊
I did this exact same thing when I cut my locs off in July and after about 4 days, my curls were starting to pop again. My hair loved it!
I will have to do this in the summer. Thanks for the information.
Yay! Please come back and give an update 😊
Thats more work
Wait til we find out we are mermaids.🎉❤😊
When I had locs, I went through a bit of washing my hair daily and my hair thrived. Now I'm back to a big chop, this video is a great reminder.

Thank you so much friend! As long as we wash our hair at the very least once a week our hair will really thrive and reap the benefits. I find that when my hair is straightened, the natural oils and sebum really dresses my hair up with the yummy nutrients

@@EvieAswiti Yes, heat dries it out bad.
Keep it up! 👍🏾
Oh and yes, we have been blatantly lied to.
In the summer I wash my hair daily but winter I wash every two-three days. My hair does grow quickly …it’s so healthy
It does grow hair quickly. I’ve cut my hair 3 times this year and it’s grown back each time!

@@kinkyhairchemistrylove your channel I have been recommending it to a lot of people
We still are using the methods of when we were oppressed and that’s why natural hair manageability has us in a negative chokehold…
I have 4b hair & it got so dry I thought my hair was 4c and was just destined to be uncooperative-when really my hair was just dry & untrained.
What are they doing in Africa where they weren't enslaved?
Thanks hun. It’s such a time to be alive with a clean scalp and hair. Love that for you. 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
once a week is what works for me but we definitely need to be washing out hair more than once a month
Totally agree. Absolutely
I washed my hair daily when it was short. However, I didn't use a sulfate shampoo. I was told sulfates can break down the hair and can cause damage over time. My hair is waist length now, so I wash twice a week now.
How long did it take you to get to waist length ?

I personally washed my hair 3 to 4 times a week every other day because my hair needs to be hydrated and it stays hydrated that way if not, I will have dangerous and dry, scout dry air and a lot of breakage and that is how you retain length once you style, your hair and the style was not supposed to stay like that for a weekor two weeks or a month or six weeks or whatever people are trying to go for
