Hey Catman put Amsoil 75/90 severe in that lower unit. Take it from someone who’s spent a mint on lower units it is the best grade it will deal with water in your lower unit much better if you get some in your gear case. Keep a close watch on grease level in it also Yamaha gear cases leak straight from the factory. Been running Yamahas for decades.also you won’t see anymore metal filings on your magnetic drain plug in your gear case. This has saved me a lot of money and it will for you.

I did that kind of work for 5 years and almost starved to death. The dealerships make all the money.

In the winter time if you're not using it the motor always trim it down so water will not seep into the prop and freeze

If you take a file and cleanup the edges of that prop, you will be surprised how much it will help your engine...

@catman If you plan on doing this again, You might consider getting a potato ricer to do the squeezing portion of the fat rendering.

Not sure how I missed this video but glad I found it. Great job as usual for you. I have been making my black powder lube for years with deer tallow. (don't have cattle/sheep, most of our red meat is venison) We have bees so easy to make the lube and I now add a little clove oil and cedar oil. Works great on patches, over revolver chambers, and also run a heavy patch through all my revolver bores before shooting. Rub it on the scratches you get dragging that crazy deer out of the brambles too. Saving this video to make soap after the next fat buck, which should be any day now... Thanks!

Saved this video last fall so when I got my hands on some Tallow I would make some soap. Thank you for the detailed video and links. Yesterday I made your soap and so far it seems that it will be nice. Just have to wait for the curing period or whatever the process is called to get over. Looking great. I’m sure it’ll be sweet looking when finished and everything is covered with a hatch. For a floor I think a sheet of aluminum would work well to keep weight down.

If I were a game warden, I would never ticket someone for doing a water test on a boat build. It’s obvious that you’re in the test mode.

I think the float switch should just get wired so it has constant power that way it turns on when the internal switch is activated. Why put a switch on a switch?

Biats mainly run on a grounded system. They interupt the ground not the power on the switch to cut power.

Looking good! Say .. what's the plan for flotation if you capsize it? Those benches on the alumacraft were originally sealed and acted as bouyancy. Maybe you mentioned this in a previous video and i missed it. You could probably put some pink XPS foam under the decking if you add a floor, or in sheets on the sides under the gunwales.

Lots of great ideas. But two way tape is mostly junk when you add heat from the sun and water from condensation. 3m makes some good adhesive but it is almost impossible to remove if you want it gone. Always enjoy your build videos. You're a "gitter done" kind of guy!
