Nice video and good work. However as a professional pilot of more than 20 years, I am sick of some ATC who think it is okay to start a conversation about parking and taxi routes as the aircraft is decelerating at relatively high speed on the runway. Honestly it can wait at least until taxi speed, if not runway vacated. Very common in America.

Hi, I'm on a very similar journey as yours, got my PPL and IFR in my C182T with Nxi so that it would match the TBM's. Now I'm about to get the TBM. In the last video, you say I'm going to keep a few kts extra for the wind. Everything I read says not to add any speed, even for gust (sort of the opposite of what we are trained to do in trainers). Has your view changed on this since your first solo 3 years ago? Love your videos. Thanks so much for sharing them

I ruled out TBM when Steveo had a $90,000 annual, then went to leave Daher and had a defective prop governor. He had to take it straight back to Daher, he never said what that cost on top of the outrageous annual. As far as being AOG that's the new reality in these days of "supply chain shortages". I've had to have parts made because there just weren't any available, in a couple of cases the parts had been discontinued. An updated part was being make, but not as a replacement part, only for new engine manufacture. These manufacturers don't seem to care about you unless you want to buy a brand new aircraft.

TBM is a lot easier to land in crosswind and turbulent conditions than most of the previous 9 or 10 aircraft I've owned and operated. The only thing unnerving about the TBM is just how slow you can and are supposed to get it on short final. Once you nail the correct speed on final your landings are short, smooth and nothing short of awesome. Just make sure to keep that nose up on flare and all will be good.

Interesting review of both aircraft though I fear you miss many salient points. For me the big one being the 12 will operate from unpaved runways with great short field capability allowing it to operate virtually out of anywhere, it is much more versatile in this regard and far more comfortable with a considerably larger cabin, it requires far less compromises with its vastly superior full fuel payload, you do not have to balance passengers for either range or landing performance anything like as often. The cabin configuration possibilities are endless with typical hot and cold refreshments, it burns around the same fuel, is around 16% slower but carries almost a third more full fuel payload. It has far better landing characteristics over the slippery TBM, and it is vastly superior in handling turbulence and moderate chop

There was a sad double fatal accident in Milwaukee years ago KMWC. The father brought his daughter from out east to look over the local college. There was a quartering 7kt wind and on a failed roll out and prop strike they tried a go around. The TBM 700 stalled on down wind and the flames prevent the fire dept. from getting in close.

A Q about "activating vectors to final". Is that necessary since you were already in heading mode and then changing to 'Vloc' and pressing 'nav' should intercept? (sometimes ATC vectors planes inside the FAF then 'activating vectors to final' creates issues.) ps do you still have the TBM & are you ever going to do more vids for us??... thank you.

Interesting to see that even an advanced turbine airplane can be sidelined by mere winter. Having winds, minimums, runway conditions, having to get hotels... this is the stuff of GA. "If you have time to spare, travel by air." It's just like flying a little Cessna. Only you can do longer distances. But it's not like a jet, where you're pretty much always going to get there without surprise overnights. Very instructive. Nice video!

The TBM is hard to land but once you master it I think it's amazing and really hones your stick and rudder (and trim) skills. The key / trick is putting in full pitch up trim on 1/4 mile final. It makes the flare extremely easy and eliminates the fear of a prop strike. I came from flying a premier 1 and gen 2 Cirri where you tend to land much flatter to prevent the opposite (tail-strikes). Once you master the TBM though, you can land just about anything.

The pro/owner pilot distinction (disregarding the dual pilot factor) is a very interesting topic you've raised here. It seems to me there are two aspects. First is standards and recurrent training. I would expect owners to be interested and capable of the exact same thing as pro pilots. Including actual currency. (Because that's what I always strived for in my PPL days. Currency? Shit - I wanted to fly every day! And to pro standards. I'd have my CFII and ATP, like a lot of my friends, including P.G. who you mentioned, if I hadn't had to quit for major medical issues.) But I realize that there are probably (many?) owners who have enough money to buy a turboprop and yet not be that way. A little scary. But besides the competency factor, there is the owner v. pro psychology. I would hope at that level of experience, the decision making would be the same. Perhaps the owner would be even more conservative about flying F&F. (Unlike the massive amount of idiocy I've witnessed in low-time PPL. Even moneyed ones like JFK Jr.) Well one can hope, I suppose. Money <> Smart. But you'd think they'd at least be scared. Oh well. Neither the SafeHome button nor a ballistic parachute will save you from going below MDA... Well anyway, cool video! Thanks for the channel! PS. My lottery fleet would be a PC-24 and a Lake amphibian. And some kind of helicopter - those are too fun.

You are in luck if you desire to obtain a tail wheel endorsement. Two of the best tail wheel instructor (CFI’s) are at KSFF (Felts Field) in Spokane. Pemberton & Sons Aviation-Addison and son Jay have thousands of hours in various tail wheel airplanes and are amazing instructors and people. A bonus is Addison has restored numerous antique tail wheel airplanes (Stearman 450 PT-17 & Speedmail; Beechcraft Staggerwing; Waco EQC-6; and only Boeing Model 40 flying to name a few). You won’t be disappointed!

Nice thoughts and mainly true. One more big issue on the Pilatus is the flushing toilet? A great item to longer flights. And the better comfort on longer flights. The HALO System in the TBM 940 is awesome and makes it at least there safer to families in case of an pilot’s issue. On the Pilatus you can not get this even for money. The Garmin 3000 would be more professional and practical in the Pilatus. Older Pilatus with the Garmin 750 are very awesome.

I would recommend testing the O2 mask by actually pressing the push to test (red knob at the bottom of the mask that also can be turned and locked for EMER mode) instead of inflating the harnesses. Puts less wear and tear on the harnesses. Also, as others have mentioned, don't abuse the master warning and caution buttons. Also you might want to rethink starting with the Avionics and AP trims ON. The manufacturer checklist does start with them off, and SIMCOM teaches that method (the "single screen" start" using the PFD reversionary mode.) I agree that the 2 screen start is easier, and less "lame" but I have heard of people having avionics issues when starting this way.

I fly the Honeywell system, and there are things about it that annoy me every single day. It is ridiculously cumbersome and unintuitive, with way too many steps required to accomplish routine tasks, such as testing GPWS, for one small example. I find it tragic that Pilatus went with that over anything Garmin, and would never choose that package for my personal aircraft.

You should make a video on how you started your business and what it costs to own the tbm. I think a lot of people don't appreciate the complexity of owning a plane and operating a business at the same time
