TBM 850 G1000 - TOTAL Gear Failure In Flight

  • On a flight home, we experienced complete gear failure on approach, and had to execute an emergency gear extension and pump the gear down. The sequence begins at 21:10 in the video.

    I love the videos that pilots take the time to make and share. I don't understand the many finger pointers as they sit in their know it all chairs. Interesting that they never post videos of their flights. Unfortunately it seems that you need to have a fairly thick skin to share your experience, despite the fact that you post a disclaimer. Thanks for posting. Keep it up.

    I really enjoy your videos... they're so authentic. I'm guessing from what your wife said in the videos that this was the first flight after your annual. Any time we had our plane worked on or after its annual i would always have one of the pro pilots that we knew fly with me.lol Love the A&P guys....but im just sayin'.

    Just a super job handling this "emergency" situation. Having the family abroad only added to the stress for you, I'm sure. But you handled it so well, as good as any pro pilot, aviate first, no rushing required, follow the procedure, and you turned it into a "non event". Well done.

    Just started watching your videos and I think they are great. You do explain things a lot but I don’t find it obnoxious at all, keep up the great work!!!! As far as the “Yaw Damper” issue, in aviation if it is a mechanical device it is a “ dampener” like an APU Starter Dampener, but since Yaw Damper is an electrical device with servos and such, it is called a Yaw Damper. It is commonly mispronounced so you are in good company.

    3:46: Yaw DAMPENER? Always thought it was a Yaw DAMPER !! LOL. Great video, Great teamwork and a happy resolution to the emergency. Looking forward to the next video explaining what the issue was.....

      Yeah - I must have started saying that a few years ago, and now can’t stop. You are right - It is the “Yaw Damper” not the “Yaw Dampener”.

      @@onetaco772 I chuckle when I hear you say that.....Sometimes habits are hard to break. For all his years, my dad always referred to U-Haul as "U-Haul It" I grew up thinking that was the name. Great video's. Love the channel.

    Hehe, ok english is not my native language but actually I think you still got it wrong. As far as my understanding goes it is called "yaw damper" because it DAMPS the yaw (not DAMPENS). The verb also is NOT "to dampen" but "to damp". But let me say that I really appreciate your positive reaction and willingness to do things right instead of telling people to just fuck off and leave you alone which has become standard.

    For what it is worth, Steveo almost always calls it "Yaw Dampener", I am lazy I call it "Yaw Damp".

    The systems will cope with the imbalance. However, the performance will be effected negatively.
    I like how you talk your viewers trough while pressing buttons.
    Could be sharper, but who cares. Anybody not liking this should just leave or STFU ;-)
    Should have sequenced your emergency better. Imagine being on final and hard IMC ! Go Around, AP on, Missed approach, holding in order to deal with your problem... ;-)
    Very much enjoy your vids and would love to fly a TBM :-)

    He is pumping WAY TOO FAST!!! Also, I would have used 50% Tq, and he could have gone into "orbit mode" with his G1000.
