  • When I was learning to fly a TBM, I always wanted a video that would show very carefully every single thing I had to do to start the airplane and get off the ground. I counted the steps, and there are 54 of them. Here they are:

Wow please take it easy on those master caution switches.

Great video. Would have have been even more interesting if a very short explanation accompanied each check, for those of us who do not have a pilots license (yet)! 😁

I am considering move from 22T to TP or VLJ and appreciate your videos.

Nice video. Very detailed. At 14:14----"Yaw Dampener" vs Yaw Damper. Cute !

Citation max calls it that too. Don’t want to get damp!

Generally most turbine aircraft have a long pre-flight checklist before start, after start it is normally short for every section...
Pushing so many times on the MASTER WARNING CAUTION only increases wear on the switches...normally just wait a second observe the CAS MSGS and pushing it once should do it...

Yeah - something I'll work on. Thanks!

I would recommend testing the O2 mask by actually pressing the push to test (red knob at the bottom of the mask that also can be turned and locked for EMER mode) instead of inflating the harnesses. Puts less wear and tear on the harnesses. Also, as others have mentioned, don't abuse the master warning and caution buttons. Also you might want to rethink starting with the Avionics and AP trims ON. The manufacturer checklist does start with them off, and SIMCOM teaches that method (the "single screen" start" using the PFD reversionary mode.) I agree that the 2 screen start is easier, and less "lame" but I have heard of people having avionics issues when starting this way.

When you put her into high idle, is that simply unfeathering the prop?

How often do you change tires?
    300 hrs? 350?

Not sure if you are still monitoring this video but ...
Is the time you presented in the video to go through the 54 steps equivalent to real time when preparing for a flight (excluding getting the plane out of the hangar and fueling)?

Great video! When putting the prop sleeve on the exhaust, how long after landing do you usually have to wait in warm weather? I would think a long time? Thanks again and look.forwrad to yiur next video.

After 5 minutes stacks are cool enough to put the covers on, and I've never really had to wait to do so. The covers are made of heat resistant material and won't melt.

How long does it take to be ready for a take off when you are not slowing down to explain your steps?

Depends on whether I’m at a controlled field or uncontrolled. At my home airport, KPUW, it only takes 4-5 min.

Great Video! Please cage your backup AI. I know you have lots of redundancy with G1000 but would be bad if you did loose everything!
