    Watching your videos made me want to see other videos on the KATY. After doing so, your videos are probably the best out there in quality and commentary. Thank you for sharing your travels.

    Brian, Thanks for another installment. It is a bit of a ride down memory lane since I rode from west to east on the Katy. I think the section you rode here was my favorite of the entire trail. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy the whole ride but this is a fantastic stretch. Thanks again for sharing.

    Great Ride . You passed through only six days after my July 29, 2022 ride to Cincinnati. The London Ohio primative camping is awesome. I have never camped there, it is only 23 miles west of my Columbus home base but I stop there to use the restroom, a superb alternative to a porta potty. I stopped on a cold ride recently, Feb 25, 2024 when my Wahoo bike computer had displayed 14° . By the time I got there, it was 35° but my hands really needed that warm dryer. July 2022 of course that was no issue. I did ride through that construction detour too between S Lebanon and The Monkey Bar. Tough climb followed by a ride on the shoulder of OH48 with dump trucks and cars, 5:40 pm then the ride west on that sketchy near no shoulder US22 OH3 with at least one impatient driver yelling "Get the #$censored$# off the road!" despite it being the marked detour for the Little Miami Trail around the Peters Cartridge Factory closure. That is finished as of December 2023. I have not made it back. Loveland was nice, then on to Hamilton County and by Moeller High School and finally US 50 where you turn off the trail and ride the road through Mariemont. I did all of Columbus to Cincinnati between 6 am and 10 pm. Watched fireworks at Reds Stadium at 10:20 pm. Gnats and Mosquitoes were difficult on the Ohio River Trail. I had in 121 miles when I crossed the Roebling Bridge to Covington and Newport.

    I see you got to travel on the new bridge over the Missouri…I crossed in 2005 on a narrow 1930’s bridge with only 2 ten foot lanes! The new bridge opened in 2007.

    RV parks always charge so much to just pitch a tent. Oregon state Parks have hiker biker at every state park, and there is a lot of them, and they're only 8 bucks. I rode across the USA in 2012 and went thru the Ozarks. KATY trail looks awesome and flat! The Ozarks where beautiful, and I hit 60 mph on a quarter mile drop, fastest speed I hit all the way across the country.

    I’m hoping to ride the Katy Trail this fall, so thanks for the videos! I’m trying to decide about making daily camping reservations or just winging it some nights. How do you decide? I just don’t want to get caught out with nowhere to sleep at the end of a long day of riding.

    • @bikingbrian
      @bikingbrian 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We pretty much winged it except for the first night and last night in a hotel. It’s easy on the KATY if you are just camping to decide day of as long as you know where you can camp. Most of the town parks etc don’t have reservations and don’t have a limit.

    Love seeing your rides. I've been camping many of the same places, but with a 12-speed Bianchi road bike, not battery powered. Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Indiana, Of course, that was when I was younger. I struggle to think about any ebike due to weight considerations. My Bianchi with a rack weighs just 15 lbs - basically nothing compared to your setup. With a handlebar bag and panniers, it can be 35-45 lbs, which is probably what the batteries weigh. Lived in Austin for 4 yrs and my parents moved to San Antonio for about 10 yrs after I started working in Houston. Anyway, with Texas so close to Mexico, many town names are pronounced based on Spanish pronunciation. Llano === Yano, for example. Fredericksburg and New Braunfels are based on German immigrants, hence why there are breweries and wursts places. Yum! Central Texas BBQ is considered the best in the world by many people too. NC and KC and Memphis BBQ are each tasty in their own way, but there's something about the lean, sliced brisket from a central Tx BBQ joint that brings tears to my eyes. I miss it. Worked my way through University at an Austin BBQ place. My mother's BBQ was so nasty (she's from ND and didn't know better), that I didn't even try the brisket where I worked for 2 yrs. Central Texas has a beauty all its own. Took me a long time to find the mesquite and scrub beautiful. Now, it is where I want my ashes spread after I die. About 15 miles east of Austin on Hwy-71 - just put my ashes in the back of a pickup and let the road wind suck me out while going 65+ mph. Obviously, keep the cab windows closed. ;) Anyway, perhaps I'll convert to an ebike and get riding again. Where I currently live, I have to drive about 30 minutes to get to roads where it is safe to bicycle. I've ridden my bike in very busy places, but traffic around here is just scary. I miss being in the middle of nowhere Nebraska where a pickup passes every hour or so and just the farm dogs are the only real danger, not distracted drivers. A brother-in-law was biking on a rural road in NW Iowa and was hit in the head by one of those big dually pickup mirrors. He spent over a month in hospital and wasn't able to work due to brain damage for over a year. He was a tenured professor at a small college there. Completely destroyed his life because of a distracted driver. 100% an accident and the driver stopped immediately and took him to a hospital and his insurance paid all the expenses ... but not the lack of income or time spend recovering at home. Life is full of dangers.

      Wow crazy! The e-bike is nice it changes things a bit. The majority of my trips are still on a regular bike, but I enjoy going even further with the e-bike. I hear you with the bbq lol.
