Louisiana inshore fishing with artificial lures.
Ridiculous Trout Action with a Jerk Bait...
South Louisiana Inshore Fishing
Fishing a Jerk Bait (Twitch Bait) for Speckled Trout can be some of the funnest fishing you have ever done, especially when the big speckled trout come out in huge numbers. I couldn't sleep so I ended up at the boat launch early and decided to go ahead and hang out at my starting spot until daylight. Of course I couldn't just sit there, so I started fishing and the big trout were already biting. No moon, no lights, just a jerk bait in the pitch black. The craziness continued through the morning. Crash course on how I use this type of lure at around the 15 min mark.
Notes Specific To This Video:
1) My location is Southeast Louisiana close to Lake Pontchartrain

Jerk Bait Rod: 6'7" Falcon Med Light
Jerk Bait: Rapala X-Rap (the smaller one)

How to fish artificial lures. Speckled trout fishing. Red drum redfish fishing. Inshore fishing. Louisiana fishing. Twitch baits. Jerk baits. Jig fishing. Fishing baitcasters. soft plastic lures
I fish artificial lures and mostly in the marshes and lakes on the east side of the Mississippi River in South Louisiana for Speckled Trout, Redfish, and Largemouth Bass. These videos are rough edited so I can show them within a few days of the trip and because I don't know how to edit videos. If you fish in the same areas I do, this might give you some idea of current conditions and fish activity. If you have a similar channel, leave me a comment so I can check it out.

South Louisiana Inshore Fishing When the Speckled Trout are biting in so many places in Louisiana, I have a hard time deciding where to fish. Usually when that happens, I find myself in familiar places, if for no other reason than nostalgia. This time it paid off. There were a lot of boats around, but it looked like a lot of fish were being caught. I started with the jerk bait just to satisfy m...

South Louisiana Inshore Fishing I didn't plan this, but it just worked out to be a double episode. I made a trip to the same shipping channel from the previous video to catch a few more with my favorite jerk baits. But, it worked out for my dad to be able to go the next day, so we made a late afternoon trip to Lake Pontchartrain and it was incredible. I did a terrible job filming the second day...

South Louisiana Inshore Fishing Back to familiar waters. Went to church Sunday morning so got off to a late start, but the afternoon bite turned out to be pretty dang good. The colder it gets, the shorter my drive gets. That's because the bigger trout move way inside this time of year. My favorite way to catch trout is with a jerk bait and we get that opportunity this time of year, but this tri...

South Louisiana Inshore Fishing I love exploring new areas and this is why. It took a few stops to find the fish, but once we did, it was insane action. The area we are fishing is a group of camps out in open water that were pretty much destroyed in hurricane Ida. The shell beds that the camps were built on made for a Speckled Trout magnet. Most of the fish were caught on a jig, but the jerk ba...

South Louisiana Inshore Fishing I couldn't resist the urge to go back to a summer hot spot to see if the Speckled Trout were doing the same thing they were doing this summer. Spoiler alert...they were. It was an extremely calm water day which brings so much of this area into play for me in my smaller boat. The tide movement was mediocre at best, which usually means you will be chasing skunks al...

Southeast Louisiana Inshore Fishing I made it back out to these platforms in my 18ft Jon boat chasing Speckled Trout with a jig. Conditions have to be right, but I learned from my last trip that it pays off. I'm sure spots like this can be duplicated in other places, but I'm not sure it could be too much better. This technique is just called "tight lining." It simply means fishing a jig without...

Southeast Louisiana Inshore Fishing Tough days are inevitable, but you have to be able to make the most of those days. I went way back in the marsh looking for Speckled Trout, and I found them with the ole "lock jaw." The way I salvaged the trip was by rotating through my lures to keep tricking them into biting. I would catch one or two and the bite would seemingly disappear until I picked up a...

Fishing Small Bayous LOADED With Trout - Pretty Much Hammered The Fish

February can be a tough month for fishing in Southeast Louisiana, but that pattern isn't holding so far this year. Small bayous in the marsh can be loaded with Speckled Trout and Redfish. Me and my son (8) found just that. Once we got warmed up, the action was through the roof. We fished artificial swimbaits on jigheads. Jar you are a trout "whisperer" . Great job as usual! What fishing rod are you using? I don't use bait casting rod so what would you recommend for spinning rod using that jerk bait?

What made you target that particular part of the rocks? Did you just drift/cast till they bit, or was there something special about that spot?
@@theirishone1339 I have history with that particular stretch and I hit the jackpot right off the bat. On a more typical trip, I hit random areas that have the smallest amount of boats and pay attention to the features of areas I catch fish and try to duplicate elsewhere. For example, if I notice I caught fish just before a point, I will hit several spots that have that same trait. However, I’ve fished this area long enough to know that if I caught fish like I did on this trip in that area, I would probably have caught them all up and down the rocks for miles. It was just a fantastic day and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one that smashed them.
Could you please stop tossing my dinner back!😂
Man what a great day. Love that weather. Great video.
Crush your barbs down on your hooks. You will notice that the trout will stay hooked up better. Problem with a jerkbait winter fishing is trout are swiping or short striking it the barbs won’t break through their lips even though they have paper mouths. It probably doesn’t make sense about crushing the barbs but from experience this has definitely helped me personally.
Thanks for the tip!

WHAT WEIGHT XRAP YOU USE
Great stuff as always. Happen to remember the water temp. And how cold do you find it can get for it to still be successful out there?
@@daltontribou3692 it was around 55. I’ve caught them into the 40’s. Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s pretty rare for it to get too cold here.
Where do you launch your boat to fish there.
Later this year, when she gets below five feet and probably after the trout are done spawning, you need to take your talent to the Mississippi River. It makes the MRGO look dumb. As always, excellent video. Lots of talent. Great fishing. Thank you for uploading.
@@LAFishBlog I will! It’s my goal to branch out more this year. Probably a little more elbow room down there too lol. All of your videos on how to find fish are very helpful and I encourage everyone to go watch if they haven’t already. Thanks Devin
@@Jar_Fishing WHAT WEIGHT XRAP YOU USE

Man your videos are amazing
@@hookmwoodfishingchannel9233 Much appreciated! Thanks for the encouragement
Hey man love the content , so a 3 foot or so diving jerk bait gets down deep enough for these trout in the winter ? Trying to dial in the trout in my area, my mind tells my when I’m in 8-12 foot of water under the boat working the rocks a 3 foot diving jerk bait isn’t enough but I assume your in similar depths and your killing it🤙🏻 need to gain some confidence in them over plastics .
@@mikewolfe2876 To be honest, I’m not sure why sometimes they are shallow and sometimes not. On this trip, they definitely were. I’m sure it has more to do with where the bait fish are hanging out more than anything. On a previous trip, the water was warmer but they were deep and I caught more on a jig in 8-12ft.
I like that stealth look when boats are passing by,lol
