Freaking Love It Bro!! Taking the kids fishing is the best feeling in the world and even more so when they slay the fish like your sone did. God bless and keep on keeping it real.
Great vid. I am not amazed that Destin can catch fish…..I am amazed that he can do it with a baitcaster!! He has a great teacher. I have 70 year old friends that still can’t get the hang of a baitcaster. Maybe Destin can make a video to show them how it’s done?
Been a good year. A lot of the patterns I have from previous years have gone out the window this year. That drought we had this summer did some weird things.
Awesome fishing,Jar.Been wanting to check out few local spots(live in Mandeville)and NShore spots that I have NOT fished in quite some time ought to have some fine reds, specks, possibly a flounder or two awaiting a Lunker City Shaker tossed their way, always fun with the next generation of fishers with us.Took grandson last year to one of my favorite spots and dat lil fella nabbed 22 in red, thought he was snagged at first. We celebrated his 7th birthday just yesterday and he got tons of fine gifts but best was nice Ugly Stik and Shimano spinning reel combo plus nice tackle box-took him last week to paddle-only spot but we swung and MISSED-dat why dey calls it fishing NOT shopping!!Nice video,as always!!
Sounds like a great setup for your grandson! We gotta teach them to have fun on every trip because we all know they don’t bite like this every trip. Hope you and the little man get to make another trip together soon.
Nothing better than sharing a fishing adventure with your son! Thanks for putting these videos together for us. Question: what effect do you think the high and extended time the salinity has been up in the marsh will have on fishing? Will the lack of grass hurt the spawn results this summer? Will the grass come back quickly/slowly? Shrimp were so plentiful the trout haven't schooled up on the trestles yet. We saw birds diving on shrimp in the ICW a couple of weeks ago; looks like that's over with now. Do you think that your success is due to the greater shrimp population now still down further near Hopedale?
In the short term, the bass population has certainly been impacted (at least compared to previous years), but the Trout and Redfish bite has been phenomenal. You are right about the shrimp. From late summer through the fall, the shrimp were everywhere. Really don’t have any idea what the long term impacts are, but I feel optimistic. My uneducated guess is that the grass comes back quickly when the water temps come back up.
Great video JAR! You won’t be fishing alone anymore. He will be waiting in the truck on you next time. Your little man looked like a natural. Great job on teaching him.
Great video Jar. Would you say at this time of year the fishing is better further east of Hopedale Marina or West? I have only fished the Hopedale area a couple of times so not that familiar with all the areas. Fished Stump Lagoon and caught a crab trap in my prop. No damage, but it got my attention. Fished another time in the Lake Robin area, did well. Both trips were during the spring and dealing with lots of wind. Any suggestions for now until Spring is appreciated. Congrats to your son on a great fishing trip and doing great with a baitcaster.
I can’t say which direction is best because I’ve only scratched the surface on what’s out there. I usually go east or south but anywhere I can find the right feature is fair game in my book. Here lately, small deep bayous in the marsh have been holding a lot of trout. The exact depth doesn’t seem to be as important as the depth relative to what is surrounding. As long as it’s deeper than surrounding ponds and channels, it’s drawing fish right now. Hope that helps
Destin, that is awesome bro!!!! So glad you brought your Dad on a trip. So when do you think you’ll be taking over his TH-cam channel? Well I guess you could let him keep it a few more months…
lol. He was so fired up after the trip, he knocked the cobwebs off his reel and started fishing in the pond behind the house again. I think the bug bit him.
Man I agree with TimJohns comment below!!!… ‘you should definitely get a million views for this!!’. So good! Well done and congrats on the day and the teaching and sharing with your Son. That kid’s gonna dominate those bayous for decades!! Haha. Great video and thanks for sharing. All the best ahead.
I’m on the West Coast and we have Corvina in a few places, which is closely related to sea trout. I wish we had them in the numbers you have the trout. Is this Louisiana… I’m new to your channel? Also, What is the name of the swimbaits you’re using? I’d like to see if they work on our Corvina? Thanks.
I don’t run a fish finder so I’m just guessing, but I would say 4-8ft. The key is having a nice drop off on at least one side of the bayou and deep relative to the surrounding stuff. I could be wrong, but that’s the story I’ve painted in my mind.
Thanks. Way south of there. Launched in Hopedale. I have to stay away from Bienvenue or that jerk bait pole will jump into my hand and I’ll burn the whole morning chasing that one big trout lol.
More kids need to experience this. Small experiences leave huge impacts.
Looks like you got a life long fishing partner !!! Bless you for taking this young’n with you !!!!
What it’s all about. Teaching the next generation and having a fishin partner !
You guys smacked them good, you have a great partner Jar, Congrats !!!

Sweet! This is southeast Louisiana close to Lake Pontchartrain. The swim baits we used in this video are called “Matrix Shad.” Thanks for watching

Wow! Now doubling up on them!)) This is great , your son has the touch like dad. What depth of water are in the bayous u are finding them?
