Working jerk baits and twitch baits this time of year is something I look forward to every year and this trip we did just that. Some of the techniques that result in bites can be so subtle. In this video we discuss some of those and we end up on a pile of Speckled Trout while we were at it. Of course for all my fellow Bass lovers out there, I had to make a couple stops on the way back to the marina to see if they wanted to be nice to me too. I didn't know where I wanted to fish, so I had a couple hours late Tuesday afternoon to run to Bayou B to see if there were fish biting and I caught enough to get my hopes up and come back Wednesday morning. Glad I did.

Jar-Pala 😂. I’ll be the first to admit luck has a whole lot to do with days like these. I’ve had my fair share of struggling days out there for sure. Just gotta be hard headed enough to keep going.

I fished trout on the other side of the state on that same day. I fished in deeper water around platforms like you and right around lunchtime the bite got crazy, I believe major feeding time was then.

Thanks Mark. I used to take the Bass for granted until this year. It’s great to see them coming back. Your video catching Bass in Hopedale a few weeks ago got me fired up to go chase them again.

Nice, one of the best investments I've made for my boat is a trolling motor with spot lock. I had that version previously, glad it's gone.
When mine finally bites the dust (probably not far off) I might get the spot lock.

Always trying to find a pattern. If I catch more than one on a certain type of feature, I try to duplicate it. By feature I mean something like a point or maybe a dip or something like that. I’m also trying different ways of working the lure for a pattern. On this day, the pause was key. Other days it might be focusing on a certain cadence or maybe just a change of lures. You never know what the fish are going to be doing on any particular day.

Windfinder shows weather and tide, but I also look at the NOAA buoy for Shell Beach area. The screenshot I showed toward the beginning is from that buoy.
Most of my trout over there this year seem smaller than usual
There have been a few really nice ones, but on average I wouldn’t disagree.
