Thanks my friend.. I hope to make a new series of videos pretty soon.. taking a break..
i just did parade laps during the vintage motorcycle festival in October 24 and was curious if a sim of the track existed. Definitely purchasing.

hey bro thanks for the help i build a 2dof then upgraded it to a 3dof with pitch roll and surge, also if you use the cheap potentiometer there is some static from the psu just make sure they a far apart.
Hey D Max, I'm from Germany and was looking for a DIY motion solution when I came across your video. It's the most genuine, down-to-earth, and coolest solution I've found so far. Definitely ranks at the top of the methods I'm considering. Since the video is already 3 years old, I wanted to ask if you're still active and if you could possibly offer some guidance. Wish you all the best.
God bless you man
Hi, I have a question for you. I'm building my 2-dof simulator. I'm using 24 volt windshield wiper motors and I'm using a 24 volt 25 amp computerized power supply. Is it normal that when the motor has to use more force, the power supply stops for a second? It sounds like it turns off for a second.
I have been watching your videos for a long time, made various size simulators and now want to go deeper. I'd like to control the simulator directly via an accelerometer (mpu6050). Alas it is a coding scenario which is beyond me. I thought maybe Rene might be able to assist, unless you know of anyone else who can assist?
Well that's pretty cool.. I dont know that chip but maybe post it up on the x-simulator.net forum. I'm trying to find time to control some sea flow blowers using the IBT but every time I find the 'time' to work on it.. Life happens.. So I'm on pause for now.. Go and see what those guys at x sim may have already done it.. all the best D
@@DMAX_DIY I've done it, there is some fine tuning. I want to build a south African version of the kraken.
@@DMAX_DIY I'm not familiar with sea flow blowers, which video should I watch about it, I will do it for you and send the data
@@pmbguy2212 yeah now your cookin!
Great details. Knowing to suck it up and get the 4 quart double deal is piece of mind. Especially if buying 2 sets is less than buying two individual kits. Mattress travel bag was clever. Thank you for showing the real cook time. For fabric it doesn’t look like your plastic material has any stretch. I think you want faux suede like TurnRacing did for his diy sim wheel. That’s what I’m going to use coz it seems similar to the real f1 custom foam seats you can find drivers sitting for. See this real f1 seat being made…. th-cam.com/video/yjEgSEEEhuk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=i-A4haFhGIqTOVLe
very cool.. I'm still working on the seat cover. I did get a lot of it made but still need some time to finish it up. The foam i use is very rigid, so I did put some automotive upholstery foam under the seat cover.. Thanks for sending the video. Dave
It’s acting weird because you have not tuned the PID parameters (Kp, Ki, Kd). P is power (think zero rpm high torque), I is inertia to control overshoot, D is damper to stop it ringing. Look up “Horizon 4 electronics” video called “PID demo”. Also your understanding of the PWM pulse width min max etc is wrong. You want to end up with them maxed after PID tuning.
I know this is super late but you came to the wrong conclusion. It might be the motor need upgrade, and you did get bigger motors, but might not have been needed. You didn’t tune the PID parameters. The yellow is supposed to be super close to the green. It stalled because the pid wasn’t tuned to give a huge amount of amperage when you needed the torque. I get you’re it an electrical engineer and I am, but I don’t want you giving the wrong advice out of no fault of your own, coz you can’t know what you don’t know. There are great pid educational videos with how the parameters affect what’s going on. Search for some and you’ll have a much better solution.
Esto sirve pata pley? O solo pc?
sooooooo many adverts!! great video though
How does the computer control the actuators? Is there feedback on the game built in?
good question. Thanks. I made quite a few videos which go step by step on setting up the software and hardware to control the motors. Yes, the games actually provide output for the motors and allow everything to work properly. Take a look around at some of my latest video series, which are start to finish.. Dave
@@DMAX_DIYthanks for your response. I will do that.
Hi Dave! i'm building a sim to and im wondering how well the upright arm works, i mounted the motors to low and i wont have enough travel with a level arm
I think you need to look at the upright arm as a lever.. the longer the lever the more it can lift. Short arm will not give a lot of strength. (if I'm understanding what you mean).
Hello Dave, your project is amazing, i built a plane simulator, and i will want add a motion , it's a cessna 172 cockpit, th-cam.com/video/nPAN7DrgUEI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ujkS_lRVF70rpXTQ , can you tel me , i want 2 motor, so i will need the one or two power supply 24 volts am from Québec City in Canada thank you , Daniel,
Can you told me that its work on ps?
Wow
How do you like using the Jazzy Wheelchair Gearboxes Motors?
You have mentioned in your video that one is faster without motion but one has less fun. I disagree: I am faster with my motion rig and have more fun! 😀Back in covid time I´ve discovered your channel. Short time after I build my 1st seatmover with wipermotors. Now I own a self build 5 DOF motionplatform with linear motion actuators that can lift a ton. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. Without your videos my talent would have never come to light. Thank you so much! Stay healthy and creative!
thanks for watching since COVID! Yeah I'm a bit slower but probably cause I'm getting older and practicing less.. I really appreciate the comment my friend! Dave
Hello friend, I have this problem. When I turn a potentiometer, both motors work at the same time, and if I turn the other potentiometer the same thing happens. What could it be?
that's pretty confusing for me. somehow both inputs to the arduino a0 a1 are getting the same signal perhaps. Try hooking up only one motor at a time. Connect one. and test, then disconnect it and test the other motor. I've not had that issue before. Dave
Hello friend, I have a big problem. Everything being fine in the smc3, when I move a potentiometer, the 2 motors respond at the same time... They never work individually. What could be happening?
what's the name of the piece (that goes under the seat allowing to move forward and backwards) welded to the frame
Good question. So it's called a U joint. Typically found in rear wheel drive trucks and cars. It pivots all directions. I bought mine from a 'junk yard' or 'salvage yard' where they take old cars and trucks and sell off the parts. It cost me $20 bucks US.. both ends of the driveshaft I bought have a U joint.. so I have two U joints now one for both of my motion rigs. Yeah you just gotta find a junkyard and go get a driveshaft that the U joints (universal joints) move and are not rusted solid.. Hope that helps Dave
Hey Max. All okay good old buddy?
Hello Mr. Dmax, I'm from Argentina, please excuse my English, I found your channel and my question is the following: I'm making a simulator for a Eurotruck truck, I'm doing it with two seats, a dashboard, etc. After watching your video on giving mobility to the seat, I reformulated my entire simulator to take it to that level, I got two windshield wiper motors, I already have the Arduino and the controllers for the aforementioned motors, the configuration is complicated for me, could you give me a hand for its correct configuration or a plan on how to make the connections? Thank you very much, I await your prompt response, sincerely: Jorge from Argentina
This is so cool. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Dave I think I have said this before but saying it again. I find your information so informative and have throughly enjoyed all your vids. Keep up the good work. Jeremy
Thank you !! I'll post some good stuff soon! Dave
I’m going to start building a rig this winter and boy have your videos be a huge help!
Thanks for the comment. I have been taking a break for the last few months due to work but I should be starting up a new series pretty soon. Thanks again! Dave
Hi, I’m about to start building my own motion rig soon, I was thinking of using your design but modifying some things to fit my equipment, but I can’t seem to find any files about measurements and such, is there a link to the sketches/design?
Well, I didnt really have time to make a downloadable sketch of this project. But I did take the time to show everyone with a tape measure the length of each section of steel and with an angle finder, the position of many things. I did that Live while videotaping the series. So you might have to take a few notes while watching. That's just the way I do it.. Thanks for the comments and just know that the project came out great and I have been racing it quite a bit until recently, where my work took me out of the country for the last few months.. Dave
@@DMAX_DIY Thanks for the response, unfortunately I live in Europe and we use the metric system, so most measurements wouldn't be very exact or accurate, but I will just round them up / down to the closest 10 and hope for the best. The design does look pretty good and durable, which is why I would've loved a sketch to download.
Thanks! From Joe: You know I’ve been watching your tutorials and the time that you spend on your video and teaching is outstanding and very personal to your viewers. Looking from the time line that 26:24 some people just like to Troll, just because of envious and jealousy for the amount of intelligence you have and patience. These type of people usually don’t amount to nothing just a paper weight in their life. I’m new to your channel, instantly subscribed. Love the amount of knowledge you share. I just had to buy you a coffee man. Cheers Dave from Joe
just wondering in one of your videos you check gear ratio on motor and said it was 18 to 1, why did you need to know the gear ratio? I ask because on my sim, My motors start in the middle and go up and down, My motors over rotate on top and bottom.
A short answer is: I had purchased some 50:1 motors and they were great.. another buddy of mine purchased some 25:1 from the same mfg and he thought they did not have a lot of torque. So I decided to check these "unknown" motors to see what they were. Basically for one revolution of the crank, the motor would spin 18 times. So on my 50:1 motors (on my other rig) the motor would spin 50 x for every time the crank would move one revolution.. Although the crank doesnt move an entire revolution on a sim rig, the more times the motor can turn the better.. So if the crank moves 1/2 of a rotation on your sim rig (which is pretty good) you would get a lot more motor rotations out of a higher number.. I hope that makes sense..
Hey buddy I’m following every step of this rig. Thank you so much for taking the time to show this, I’m a plumber and have been for 24 years and i have a small performance transmission shop I run from my at home shop and would much rather build my own sim rig than to buy something and I’ve been fabricating for over 20 years and your details on this design makes this a breeze to follow so again thank you so much for sharing and helping
I hope that my videos help you out.. It's not terribly complex but it does take a little while to make one.. Thanks for your comment and all the best! I did make a couple series on this topic Dave
Hey curious how loud the motors are when your racing. I couldn't find a much in your vids
Also I got a heavier sim. Those motors gonna be strong enough or should I build out of aluminum
you cant hear the motors at all
does it vibrate like a real car?
Excellent tutorial! These types of tutorials are absolutley the best thing about TH-cam. Great job man!
Thank you.. i'm taking a break but i'll be back pretty soon
@@DMAX_DIY enjoy the time off!
I just finished my motion simulator after 9 months of work. If it wasn't for your detailled videos, I would not have been able to make it. Will email you a video. Many many thanks!
Is there a different potentiometer I can use from Amazon or eBay?
huge thanks from China! we will build one for our game~
i followed the instructions but i dont know why it crashed and wont boot.. maybe im stupid
What about using a heart effect instead of potentiometers?
DMAX your the best man! Thank you soo much for shairing your knowledge and project details thats soo important for sim comunty to have that type of examples. Wish you best
I love your sim rig however there is one thing that bothers me about it . I feel the rig would look better if you removed the bungie cords and mounted your harness to the back frame of your chair. You could still maintain the tightness needed to stay safe in your rig better. You do you but I feel the bungie cords are not safe for a motor controled contraption such as a 3dof sim rig.
Thats the old rig.. i did disassemble it and built a new one with a front push.. take a look at this video.. (actually still working on the seat) th-cam.com/video/UXS45Z2GHMk/w-d-xo.html
Your build series is really helpful. I'm gearing up to do a build following your guides, please are the CAD diagrams shown in the videos available to download ? They'll be a great reference. Thanks.
Recently discovered the channel and I’m very appreciative of your work- thank you for taking the time to share with us
Regarding aluminum connectors where I can find these? Your videos are very informative I learned a lot.
Sir your videos are great I wish you get more and more views and subscribers I do have a question and I can't find the answer anywhere Recently I was intrested to buy a used rig with seats and steering wheel so I got a deal very cheap and after I got to know it's a D-box first gen with 3 actuators and a control module but after few research I got to know I need a dongle to connect it with the PC (D-BOX KAI 1P controller) and its quite expensive I really wants to know is there anything I can do to bypass it or use the actuators with some other hardware or like any hacks ?
A boys dream, love the explanation simple and easy to understand... other channels just show building with expensive kits.. btw the ost type music kept my attention😂😊.
