    I love watching the progress. This is gonna be sweet. I would suggest looking into something stronger than csl dd. It will most likely feel like a lateral upgrade from the csl you have. You should look into something like the alpha mini. As I'm typing this you said you were going to watch COTA F1 lol i went to the friday practice it was so cool. Happy racing.

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dang NICK! I've been 'attempting' to go to F1 COTA since it started getting rained out by the hurricanes a few years ago.. Man that must have been awesome!! Planning on next year! Yeah I'll take a look at the alpha mini.. I'm trying to keep the frame weight down.. I've been using the Elite belt drive for about 3 years in the other 3dof rig i have and just want to see what all the DD is about.. I'm really going to crank up the motors on this one and really dial it in on the channel so stay tuned.. more stuff on the way when I get a little time.. Dave

      Thanks Gavin.. yeah this 'design' is a bit different and should deliver some rock solid performance. I'm trying to keep the weight down on the upper frame so i can maximize response.. Even though the other 3DOF rig is wicked, I want this one to be better. Plus a smaller footprint should easily fit in the house Thanks for your awesome comment! Dave😁

This one should be even more responsive cause I'm paying attention to weight. less weight is always better in a race car or motion rig.. Is there a reason why the square tubing that is supporting the wheel base is at that angle? It does look a little restrictive to get in and out of the rig. It is just an observation from an old man's point of view with aching joints 😊

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's my triangle design.. I have not yet built the other 4 small supports yet. YES YES it is restrictive.. I may deal with that.. ANother guy who I know asked me about that.. on the drivers side.. I may re work it.. but not yet.. I need to see if it's a pain in the butt.. because if it is.. If mod it.. cause I'm old too.. 60+ Dave

    Csl DD with 8nm is awesome. You wont regret. It looks like you have the P1 wheel? I wanted to buy that wheel as a used one to save some money when ordering the dd base. But ive read somewhere that it isnt compatible with the csl dd anymore. Thats why i brought then the wrc wheel. I hope i am wrong and you can enjoy your setup from the first day on and dont need to wait for a new wheel. Thanks for your videos they inspire me to do se same one day. But i would try to go the route to build the frame itself with the the usually used aluminium profiles as I cannot weld. Best regards

    • @gintonic9127
      @gintonic9127 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      CSL DD is the new CSL Elite. More or less the same. The raw motor on CSL DD is probably worth 100-200$, cheap and weak. Even MiGe which is a "cheap" but proper DD is at least double in price. Also, not only power but technology is important.
      Plastic connector wheels like P1 can't handle proper torque. When connecting to Fanatec bases, the torque is reduced to 8Nm or so. To be honest, that wheel only handles about 2-4Nm.

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Dominik! I appreciate it. Hopefully this series has a hand at inspiring people to build their own stuff. Either Aluminum profile, wood or metal.. Myself. I'm building the 2023 rig from carbon fiber.. - yeah I already bought some of the 3k and gelcoat and epoxy and have never done it before so it might be a completed disaster. Thanks for your input on the CSL DD and the P1 rim. I appreciate all the info I am getting and well at some point I need to get a wheelbase for this new rig, Just thought it would be click and 'buy now' type of thing.. but not right now.. See ya next video! Dave

      @@gintonic9127 So if I did get a CSLDD the P1 rim would break off or something? would I need to get a better QR? I just gathering data.. Really want to keep within the 10# range.. I heard that simucube (irleand?) is shipping so I look at that too tonight. Dave

      I'll look into it.. Thanks! I can get whatever.. I just want the lightest and most powerful for the weight that I can get.. I cant have a 15 pounder.. I already want to rebuild the V3 pedals out of carbon * actually that weight is the most detrimental to performance* having that weight hanging way out there.. Thanks for the suggestion Dave😁

    Hey Dave can you tell me how to wire in a emergency stop switch? Or possibly do a video, thanks

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question Stanley! Yeah.. so I will including that part in an upcoming video.. but in the meantime, I have purchased a couple round 'emergency on off switches' off the internet and was not happy about them.. cause they fell apart.. I am confident on using a 30 amp DC breaker mounted on the right side of the rig just to above the shifter. So for now, If can find one (I will supply the part number and ordering info in the upcoming video) It's basically an on off breaker within reach.. It's on my 'big rig' I've used it for about 2 years and works perfect.. Dave

    This looks amazing. Side tip you should wear long sleeves and gloves. You can get UV burns kinda like sunburn from the welder which admits ultraviolet rays. Will you by chance have schematics for the frame like a google docs file?

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      never thought about that.. usually I try to wear long sleeves.. but you are probably right.. Dang.. PPE.. I will try and make a dimension doc or something when it's working. probably the end of the next series.. I figure YT will be around for a while so I have a bit of time to 'tweak' it if needed.. but it looks ok so far.. I tired to make the dimensions visible in the series but I realize not everyone has time to watch or take notes on all of it.. Good point and thanks for you comment.. DD wheels:
    Nobody asked me, but I think your content is inspiring, so I don't want you to get a crappy wheel.
    Summary:
    1) Fanatec CSL DD:
    If you have a CSL ELite (I have one), don't get a CSL DD (Power Pack), it's not worth it. Cheaper version without Power Pack is just crap as DD wheel. Fanatec wheels with plastic Quick Release will NOT work properly with DD. Forget that option.
    2) Fanatec DD1/DD2:
    If you love fanatec eco system AND have/want a lot of good wheels from Fanatec, then it makes sense. Pedals are irrelevant to DD choice. Also if you can get DD1/DD2 cheap, worth considering. In US, probably not. I'm in Germany, so it's around the corner and I still don't want it. FFB is good but not the best. Quick Release is crap and main reason to avoid it. Connection wheel/base not firm enough, results in loss of FFB fidelity. Best Quick Release systems are: Simgear QR1 Quick release and Simucube 2 Quick Release. Still, this is probably the second best choice overall, good resell value. And Fanatec is default choice in games.
    1) Moza, Simagic, and other weird stuff I can't remember. Many based on simucube with their own weird beta software and weird own ecosystem.
    It might be all fine, but weird unknown ecosystem. If the price is right, maybe, but you're drawing yourself into unknown dark corner. Those that are based on simucube are at least somewhat standard and will fit any wheel. I think Moza requires their own weird wheels, not good, which is all part of the price.
    4) Accuforce
    Valid choice if you're in US/America region (cheaper). Average but solid FFB for a DD. People notice in blind tests that it's inferiour, still way better than CSL DD. The unique part and the only real reason to get it is that you can use custom FFB based on telemetry, if you're into making your own FFB. I think the problem is still that the fidelity of the motor is not the best (in comparison to DD1, Simucube 2 or a great DIY motor)
    5) custom DIY / origional simucube
    A lot choices, but tinkering required. With good motors (Lenzer, Kollmorgen) might be worth it. Software might be dated, which is also important. Probably not the best choice nowadays. I wanted to go that route, maybe some day.
    1) Simucube 2
    This is the base with the best FFB, in all my research and testing, and I own Pro version. Sport version is a real downgrade in everything (slower is the most critical factor, not weaker), I don't recommend it. I also have access to Ultimate version which is better, but probably not noticable (I could compare it closely one day). Great Quick release with no wobble or movement. Not the cheapest but worth it for a proper simulation as yours. Also, there is trust in the company and ecosystem, improvement based on original simucube which is still great. The only "negative" point is that it's not default as Fanatec as for now.
    If you'd ask me, for what you have and do, I'd say get a Simucube 2 Pro (it's worth it), or DD1 (if you're into Fanatec). Other stuff is kind of risky and inferior.

      Oh WOW!! Now that's a fantastic comment and great advice.. Thank you for all of it. I printed out the comment so I can read through it a few times today. Still have not ordered a wheelbase yet but man, I really appreciate the insight.. Hard to tell unless someone like you has tested a bunch of different bases. Thanks again! Dang! Great! Dave

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok.. so here is my 'thought' process. You might appreciate it too.. after comparing weight of all those wheelbases, The big boys come in at like 20#.. I am designing this rig (and the 6DOFcarbon rig next year) to take advantage of power to weight so the weight of components is a big consideration. There are two DD options which only weight 10#.. simucube or the CSL DD. What I am thinking of doing is for this project getting the CSL DD. BUT, in a different series in 2023 doing an OSW build using the Midge motor so I can actually get a Simicube 20nm at 10 pounds.. That's my thought process. I would be a good 'series' build if I can pull it off.. I'm researching on xsimulator.net right now and collecting the 'data' etc I need for the OSW build.. *a bit daunting software wise* but I'm a newby, so I study up a bit.. What u think? Dave

    • @gintonic9127
      @gintonic9127 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DMAX_DIY Seems like you'd have many of those complete rigs. Are you selling those or are you collecting them? Is weight difference that big in comparison to total weight (I guess 5-10%)? CSL DD without Power Pack (reduced Nm) might be weaker/worse than CSL Elite. With Power Pack it might be not much better than CSL Elite. OSW is fun for tinkering, but end result depends on the motor, controller, encoder, software etc.

    • @gintonic9127
      @gintonic9127 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gintonic9127 I'm just having fun.. i like building stuff. So with this newer rig, I really wanted to keep the weight down. i actually have carbon fiber to rework the top frame if i like the way it turns out in metal first. actually could not find a csl dd this week. so still without for now. the actual worst thing is the pedal set. the v3's weight is way out on the end. i'm posting another video tonight. mostly done.. Thanks for all your thoughts on this.. i dindnt realize it would be difficult to find one to purchase.. I have seen quite a few DD1's on the market. but still not sure on the weight.. dave

    Thanks Dave! I love your channel. Your videos inspired me to build a sim rig of for myself over the last couple months and I have a question I'm hoping you can help with. When testing my rig using SMC3, the motors move faster in one direction vs the opposite. The difference varies between motors even. One moter moves faster clockwise, one counter. I posted a video of the issue, if you have any ideas feedback I would appreciate it. Keep on building! Thanks! th-cam.com/video/lbaYWlXDIS0/w-d-xo.html
