    thank you very much Dave. My project is currently stopped because my motors, being small for my weight, some ninety-odd kilos, caused the destruction of the internal gear of the reducer motor. It was difficult for me to get a bigger one, I would have liked to get the motor that you installed a year ago that you recommended me for its great torque, but my desire to have something similar made me invent something with a forward and backward push ,1 motor (brake - movement acceleration) and that's as far as it goes. I wish you have a happy year

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well you in the drawing Daniel. Yeah motors are a tricky thing.. I just wish those big motors from Australia were not like $350 each.. So we gotta make due. Myself I hover around 205 pounds so making the balance point as good as i can and trying to keep weight in mind for the top frame is always a priority..

    Woot! A late xmas present! Time to sit down and watch!
    I hope you had a great holiday,.
    My current plan is to ride on your coattails ;) But seriously, your video series has been in inspiration for doing a simrig. I am planning on using your compact 3DOF setup here for my base and trying to throw a bit of my own style into it too. I already have my welder and have been practicing while I finish up my virtual pinball table build. I'm not 'good' but I think I can produce a serviceable weld! I bought my arduino uno and my motor drivers. I just had a motor get delivered today(30W 50:1 24V). It looks a little smaller than what you are using but it was only $40 and will be good for testing at least(we will see how strong it is when I get there).

    Great video. Thanks. Just completed my 3dof home build. Really pleased. Wouldn't have got it done without you buddy. Xsimulator has been an awesome source too, and I'm loving Simtools v3. So much nicer interface.
    I think the test as to whether your build has been successful is that when your friends and family have a go, they can't stop laughing out loud, infact the harder they laugh the better the job you have made of it!
    I'm looking forward to posting my project on Xsimulator soon.

    Hey Dave! I'm attempting to create almost a replica of what you're building here on this video, I already have a playseat so I'm going to use that as a base and just try and weld it to a box frame, from then on going to do just as you've done on this and previous builds using the same components and motors!
    Thanks for all your help!

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well Cris, your in the drawing! Sounds good. I wonder how much the playseat weighs.. If Things go good with this new design I may try and update the plastic race seat with a heavier one.. Although once I added the wheelbase and wheel, they seemed to weigh more than anticipated. i will pull them off later and get a weight on them.. Dave

    • @crissoto93
      @crissoto93 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DMAX_DIY the seat with it's playseat frame weigh about 45 pounds... I'm not too worried about weight since I'm only 145lbs :) but I will need to stiffen the playseat since it just uses a single tubular rail in the middle to tie the pedals/wheel base to the seat, so there might be a lot of modification. it's a Playseat Evolution for reference.

    "Simtools Pro"Hello Dave, last year I made a small 2dof to verify the operation and it turned out very well, I already had the basket with all the components to make a 2dof, only for the seat, but there were changes in the family and we are under construction house and I had to move my cave to the top floor, it is a change for the better, but I have a problem, the vibrations, now I have 7 large bodyshakers and there is a lot of vibration downstairs, so I am about to build an area with air suspension and put the cockpit up, it would be a thick board of 3x2mts on top of 6 inner tubes, and if all goes well, I'll continue with my 2Dof, thanks for everything and best regards.

    Force cooling a weld is generally a bad idea, especially using water, as it can lead to stress cracking and failure. Probably not a concern in this application, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well Dan, Your in the drawing! Yeah probably right about that. but I figured I would dissipate the heat and save the nylon gear. Each motor took about 10 min to make the tack welds. Just wish they were metal internals but they are not.. Should not have any issues now with the lever becoming disconnected with the motor shaft anyway. 🙂

    Thanks for posting this Dave, have definitely been waiting for your latest installment. My rig is loosely based on your first rig. It's quite a bit longer to mimic an F1 seating arrangement which may end up making it too heavy, but hey I'll learn something and have plenty of metal to rearrange for v2 🙂.

    SIMTOOLS PRO: I've been watching for a while. At first just seeing what it actually takes to get a basic rig going. Then after seeing how you put it so simply I knew I needed to do this too... eventually. After using a trusty G29 clamped to the desk for a few years eventually became Soon
    Finally got my toes wet with a micro pro clone, a 298 H bridge, and two 12V vibe motors for my pedals... For under $30! Then added a $15 bar-style load cell to the same board by modifying the SimHub pedal motor code. Fun when things work, eh? Haha!
    So yea! A motion rig is on deck thanks to how practical you keep things. "Look, this controls those, and that tells them where it is at all times. And don't put your finger in there!" lol, I didn't even know what an H-bridge was four months ago man, thanks srsly. Metal is gathered and parts are in mind and it sure would be nice to save another $70, heh heh.

One of my friends works on tearing down AC units so if possible I’m gonna use those sim e he said he can grab me some. Really inspiring Dave, keep it up. I really like the idea of building my own rig with 2dof or 3dof but I would go with aluminum profile something like 8020 or 6030 soit would be easier to build, modify, and adjust without welding.

    Hi, d max, some questions. How did you determine the horizontal angle of the engine, is it parallel to any structure of the rig? Why did you had to flip the motor, just because of the motor shaft? Why was this necessary?

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The horizonal angle is parallel with the frame, but it really doesn't matter, it just looks better to me to have them symmetrical. Also with flipping the motor shaft around on the right side, I did that so that I had a larger area to weld the lever arm on which would be facing outwards. It's not necessary, as I did not do that on my other rig, but it makes things a bit nicer and easier to put together. Those were excellent questions my friend!

      It may depend on where your set your clip limits but I'm not sure.. My motors never seem to 'shut off' unless I exceed the max limits.. also there is a bit of physical load which you have to account for that may push the motor beyond the clip limits (ie weight and momentum).. other than that, Maybe the power supply is clipping out? 600 watts seems like enough.. IDK .. let me know at what point it 'shuts off'.. Dave

    • @najmisafwanfpv5294
      @najmisafwanfpv5294 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DMAX_DIY thanks Dave! Yes before this i suspect power supply bcause the power led keep blinking after the motor shut off..before this i use 15amp 350 watt pwer supply..now i upgrade and the new power supply seems ok and no more blinking after motor shut off..i suspect the clip limit and maybe try to adjust this first later..and after this i want to try connect the volt and ampere meter to see how many amps/volt it pull when the motor shut off..

    How did you attached these Hall Effect Potentiometers? The link sends me to non contact potentiometers, but didnt you use some rubber tube to turn yours?

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question.. Yes they a non contact hall effect sensors. Which is ideal because You dong need to worry about physical limitations.. You still get the 180 degrees of sensing just like a wire wound but they are bettter and no EMI issues. Yes the rubber tubing attaches between the motor shaft and the hall effect pot (sensor).. works pretty good for me.

    I’m getting motion sickness in my rig in vr. I wonder if it’s because I’m missing the 3rd drift axis?
    Also how much slack do the grab pot motors have in the lever arm? I’m using Prius motors and the gear slake equates to about 5mm at the lever end.

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your in the drawing Oliver F. Thinking about your comment here, no it's not because of the TL or 3rd axis. What VR setup are you using? I have the CV1 oculus rift which uses outside in cameras.. I suggest searching x-simulator.net for some assistance with the VR. When the motors are being driven, *when power is on* I dont see any slack in the crab pot motors. however, when they are not powered on, they can be back driven (i.e moved - they do not hold position).

    • @oliverf944
      @oliverf944 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DMAX_DIY I tried minimising dead zone which didn’t help. Powered on I’ve got float. Must be in the worm gear of my motors. Although i don’t notice in action I would prefer it to be tight. Regarding motion sickness, I’m using vive pro with tracker and openvr compensation. I may have resolved it. Last night I’ve moved the tracker to a location closer to pivot location and adjusted driver position in the software. Setting location 200mm below my eye level and for what ever reason my brain is accepting it.

    • @DMAX_DIY

      @@oliverf944 I've been considering updating my VR headset bc mine is pretty old and I'm sure new and better tech has come out in the past 10 years however, I too am concerned about the tracking. I'm glad you have at least found a solution to it. I may have been lucky with the outside in tracking the CV1 had to begin with as I never had any issues, but still wonder how much better the resolution etc could be. As far as the motors go, I read through hours of forums on x-sim before selecting the crab pot motors. The only time they seem to have slack is when they are not powered or not receiving a signal from the game.

    isnt there a very cheap method of welding this type of stuff? i dont wanna buy a welder for a single project especially if trying to do this in a way were it costs as little as possible because honestly cant afford a new pc and motion sim. so im going with build a pc as cheap as possible but needs to be able to do VR and have enough usb controllers to allow for everything to be connected including vr the thing is .. im noticing is theres a specific amount of movement that feels real. and then after that its really truly not needed and doesnt really add to the immersion... would it be cheap to just do the first part of this with skate board wheels ? looks like that part would be chea-pest and the most useful info for racing atleast.

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you could build a seatmover from wood. that would be pretty inexpensive and you would get similar initial effects..
