Greetings! I'm Cathy, a woman prepsteading in Minnesota.
It can be challenging, but I grow and preserve what I am able to with limited space, time, and resources, and DIY a lot of projects. I cook, eat, and preserve a mostly paleo diet.
Through all of this, there is hope-that you can live a more self-reliant lifestyle in your later years, that prepping isn't just about rice and beans, and that you are capable of so much more than you think!
Music is also a large part of my life. Praise and worship is my genre-not only is it my heart, but it has been a spiritual staple for me as a single mom. It sustains me through challenging times…even homesteading. To separate that out or put music in a different box (or channel) is just not possible for me. Stay tuned for music videos!
Please join me, encourage me, and hope with me. (Isaiah 40:31)

So if you'de stuck to regular start intervals it might have worked?
Yes. At those temps, starting and letting it run every 4 hours makes a huge difference. It also needs to run for at least 20 minutes to recharge the battery (gets low from the cold) and get the engine oil back to normal thinness.
Do you put salt and lemon in the jars too?
I did season the juice, but because I pressure canned the jars, I did not have to add lemon.
or, just use a few nails to accomplish the exact same thing.
Nails could not only rip the netting, but be a hazard for injury. This system works really well.
@@northstarprepsteader I've used nails for this purpose for decades. They work just fine. You can also use 3M Command hooks mounted upside-down. Many ways to skin this cat. Just offering an alternative that isn't so labor intensive.
You made a giant Pringle potato chip!👍
Lol
Sometimes I will just eathe flowers, they are very delicious
Interesting!!!
What was the eighth veggie.
Tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, garlic, carrots, celery, parsley, basil
What do you use these on
Pasta, eggs, chicken, fish and more
Thanks for the video! I haven't grown green beans in 20+ years. My cowpeas/purple hull black eyes are doing great even though didnt use innoculant. But my organic Tendergreen bush beans did ok, but where rather pale green, then got leaf spot😢. I wonder if using anti bacterial dish soap mixture would work? Not from Rare Seeds. Guess pig gets some greens for lunch. I wonder if watering them everyday is too much in Florida summer.
Might be too much water, hard to say.
Thank you for showing how to care for the plants. Good video.
My pleasure
Suggestion for adding a raised bed in a lawn area. I’ve done the following many times with great results. After determining where I’m going to put the raised bed, I dig the area where the bed edges will be only to make the bed level. I then put down a couple layers of carboard with all plastic materials removed. I then fill the bed with the soil median and plant as desired. I seldom till soil as it won’t get rid of seeds. But the carboard will smother out existing plants and prevent seeds from germinating until the carboard rots away and by that time, your generally in good shape.
Great tip!
Where is the recipe? I can't seem to find it.
It’s in the notes/description below the video.
I am looking forward to making this when my garden come to an end of production for the summer.
Such a great way to use up the rest of your tomatoes. I just gave 4 quarts to my sister and she loves it!
Fantastic video! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much!
I make my tea from the whole plant, only cut the dirty root off
Awesome!
We feel your pain in Colorado as well. So many, never ending Elm seeds and buckets of hail. It's an evil never ending cycle, lol.
Agreed!!
Thanks for sharing,
You’re welcome!
What do you do with the pulp? Compost it?
Sometimes.
I tried canning my tomatoes using Himalayan salt and most of the jar lids basically exploded because of the minerals in the Himalayan salt.
Interesting…
You could also roast those tomatoes, then can them which will replace your canned tomatoes from the store. Last year, I canned 24 jars of roasted tomatoes
That’s what I do when I make sauce. I just had more than enough sauce and needed to do something different with the rest of the tomatoes.
So it’s been 3+ years since you’ve made this video. I’m glad I went looking for your videos because this was very helpful. The coffee grinder tip is perfect. I am wondering how you ended up using the green onion powder. I’m sure you found several ways to use it.
Thanks! Glad it was helpful. It’s delicious on pasta.
Hi Kathy! New subscriber here, I love your content. I’ve learned so much from your videos already! Any plans for some updated videos? Hope you’re doing well.
Thank you!. I hope to continue them. I appreciate you coming to my channel!
Can you cook green onion tops in an iron skillet with olive oil?
Yes, they will cook very quickly, so put them in at the last minute.
Well done thank you for sharing! A great way to store and save space.
Thank you
I posted the name of your video because I had so much interest when I posted my results. You’ll likely get lots of traffic because of it. Thank you for your great video! Congratulations!
Awesome! Thank you 😊
will miss you!
Same!
Roach, yes. Thank God almighty, I learned that the flying kind (yes, huge, noisy when flying) are not the kind that infest a house. A wood roach, google said. I heard it before I saw it. Could not figure out what t.a.h. was in my house. 😳🤯😱
I shudder….
poem, yes. Snow, maybe as a little kid. Sand, not completely.
Lol, you’re so great!
tried paint and primer, meh. Now I have primer tinted to match paint. 1 coat primer, 2 coats paint, at least. Hadn't heard about the gray primer over red or pink paint. sounds like a plan.
Thanks! Yes, gray under red top coat very important.
I am really sorry to see you go. I understand fully your loaded plate. I truly wish you happiness and productivity. Please know you will be missed a great dear. I love your humor and will miss Sven and Oley...they are so funny and love your accent for them. I may not always make the lives but watch after. I have learned so many great things from you. Take care.
Thank you so much ☺️
I'll miss your live shows, tho I never could watch them because of poor reception here. Thanks for all you've you've shared with us. The laughter and the tears. I hope to see some videos about your greenhouse over the next few months. Good luck to you. God bless!🤗❤️🙏
Thank you!!
It would be fun if you could do video once in while. You are always so fun. I have been watching silent. I haven't been able to catch a live and haven't made comments. I wanted to let you know how much you are appreciated, Your light-hearted laughter brightens people's days. I love how you have shared your wisdom and insight and have encouraged others. I will be praying for you and Lord bless you in all that he has you do. You're going to be missed I'm going to miss the weekly visit with Cathy and all that you share. The weather by you oh my! I will be praying that God puts in your pathway. Someone that you can teach and pass that batton, That they can carry on the work of the Lord So that those ministries can still keep going. I agree with what you're saying.Things are so different oh my. Worship is so different. And I have heard a lot of places are having a hard time for people to step up and Beadle's hands and feet for Jesus for his work in ministry. I will be praying it all works out, You have. carried a busy load. Hugs and love to you, my friend. You have to take of you ❤
Thanks Vonnie. I hope to get on once in a while.
I missed you Cathy, and so bummed out. We're just coming online after 2 days without power and had a lot of errands to do now that we're online. Terrible timing!
Missed you too!
Please adopt me!!!
Lol!
This looks absolutely delicious. Oh, when cranberries come back in.
Yep!!
Looks delicious!!
It is!
4/20... lol
CO2 is plant food not pollution!
You’ve got that right!
How about healthy Jaggery instead of white sugar?
I’ve not heard of that!
Jaggery is like molasses. It’s sugar without all the chemicals and preservatives
Jaggery is a sweetener that is made from sugarcane; it is also known as unrefined sugar, which is prepared without the separation of molasses and crystals and is mostly produced in India and Africa. You can get it it in any Indian grocery stores
Really great recipe and easy-to-follow video. I'm gonna give this one a try.
Awesome! Thank you 😊
You are exactly right. When cutting the tops you do allow not only water, but bugs and bacteria to get inside the onions. I have found worms inside broken leaves in the garden before. But it is a great idea to save and use the green tops.
Thank you! Nice to have someone affirm my observations.
Dont throw put your peels! You can deep fry them, season them, and top them with mozza, pop them in the oven long enough to melt the cheese, and dip them in sour cream. Its great!
That sounds amazing!!
@@northstarprepsteader they're pretty good. Used to snack on those at the sports bar when I was young. Now it drives me nuts to see people toss em. They'll last in the fridge fresh for a few days if you keep them in water
Thank you for explaining the milk situation to me 4 videos to try and find that out.
Any time!
Hi. It's me, Sunny (of the formerly SunnyPreps channel). I just got starlink. I wanted to try watching live but had company. Catching the replay. Hopefully see you next week.
Yay for Starlink! Missed you tonight but hopefully another week :)
What food is best for strawberries Thanks i ‘m a beginner
I think you mean fertilizer? Early in the season they need lots of nitrogen to boost the plants as much as possible, so use an NPK fertilizer. However, do not do it in the spring, but in the fall-once a year.
@@northstarprepsteader Thanks very much
