    Garden looks great Cathy. I got mad bean harvests. Going in for round two soon. I plant them 2 inches appart and they do great.

    I always enjoy your music. I have been having difficulty with my green beans as well. These beetles laugh at my organic sprays. I think they use them as an aperitif 😄.

    I had the same bean mix up this year. I received a package from Baker Creek and got green and not Dragon Tongue. They were tasty.

      Wow, interesting! We should probably let them know? Yes, this variety was very good 😋

      Northstar Prepsteader I did let them know when I first started seeds at the beginning of the year. My Dragon Tongue seeds were vining and I took photos and sent it to them. They sent me another pack of seeds from a different lot#. So I did get Dragon Tongue beans that time.

    I bought Dragon Tongue beans from Baker Creek in January, before the chaos, and the seeds look just like yours. Mine did produce typical dragon tongue beans though. Your green beans look great....whatever they are!

    Hi I'm in UK first time I've grown this has happen to my beans leaves gone same. But tons of flowers and some beans growing can I pick bean and safe to eat or should I pull them up and get rid?? Don't want to get food poisoning as I'm new to gardening??

    • @northstarprepsteader
      @northstarprepsteader  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You really need to pull them for the sake of your garden, otherwise the disease will spread and ruin other crops. It won't poison you to eat them, but I still wouldn't. I definitely wouldn't can them.

  • @slightly2stoopid
    @slightly2stoopid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have some leaves yellowing and browning but the green beans themselves look great. Are they still safe to eat

    • @northstarprepsteader
      @northstarprepsteader  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The beans themselves should be OK. If the plants are just aging and dying off, those should be OK. It’s when they get signs of blight-blotchy and such- that do you want to pull the plants so you don’t infect your garden.

    I planted regular green beans and while some look just fine others have black patches on them. Is this a blight or fungus? What should I do?

    • @northstarprepsteader
      @northstarprepsteader  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they have a yellow halo around the spots, it's definitely blight. If not, it could be a fungus like anthracnose. Either way, it will spread if not dealt with. Sources of this could be too much water, handling the plants when they're wet, a potash deficiency, or infected seeds. You will need to get rid of the infected plants (pull and burn them), then make sure you crop rotate-don't plant beans there for 3 years.

    Thanks for the video! I haven't grown green beans in 20+ years. My cowpeas/purple hull black eyes are doing great even though didnt use innoculant.
    But my organic Tendergreen bush beans did ok, but where rather pale green, then got leaf spot😢. I wonder if using anti bacterial dish soap mixture would work?
    Not from Rare Seeds. Guess pig gets some greens for lunch.
    I wonder if watering them everyday is too much in Florida summer.

    That's what mine look like. I am in zone 8. It's been in the hundreds here. First time growing them and so disappointed. Can I try a shade cloth? I also had powdery mildew. 😭

    • @northstarprepsteader
      @northstarprepsteader  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you had powdery mildew, I'd pull them all and burn them. So sorry to hear that. Mix baking soda in the soil and cover it with black plastic for at least a couple weeks to kill anything that's in the soil. Try replanting after that. In your zone, you should be able to get 2 more plantings in.

    Good morning sweets. We had temps over 100 for 3 wks. My green beans got blight too. Luckily I was able to save a bag full before I had to pull them. I just thought of something, I put a few aside to dry for planting. Do you think it’ll transfer to the seed? Omgoodness, duh! Sometimes my brain is on full speed ahead (looking to the future) that I don’t think in the now! Any way, I’ll be emailing you asap. Just know you’re in my thoughts and my prayers sweet pea. ❤️😘🥰🙏🏻

    weird that your dragon tongue didn't come out?!? My guess is it happened when they were swapping from one variety to another in packaging machine. If you ever want to grow a pole bean variety of that they look just like my "Rattlesnake" pole beans. Good luck with the blight

    • @northstarprepsteader
      @northstarprepsteader  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are they getting enough water? Beans like water 😊. The intense heat we’ve had can adversely affect them too. Otherwise, maybe fertilize with a good all-around fertilizer. Fruiting difficulty can be due to low potassium. Try different things and see what works.
