Just random stuff that interests me. I’m a retired software developer and IT consultant. I like to take things apart and put them back together while trying not to have too many parts left over. I’m interested in vintage tool restoration, vintage electronics and pretty much anything mechanical and electrical.
Thanks for your interest!

Great cleanup, you saved a good knife, and have a usable tool!
Thanks Barry! I appreciate the view and comment! Best regards to you and come back often. Bill.
I have screwdriver that look like that! 😂 It still looks far better than what you began with. “That which we shall not speak of”. No one would know it wasn't like that under all that garbage. 😉 Well done! 👍
Thanks Joseph! That putty knife was pretty gnarly looking wasn't it ? 😁Glad you watched and commented. Best to you, Bill.
Story of my life, get something almost perfect, then I screw it up! Great video!
Hi John! Not the first time for me and won't be the last either! 😊Thanks for the view and comment, Bill.
Amazon could have delivered a new one in that time and for less than the cost of all those cleaning chemicals 😂
Hi Gregory. If you don't understand why I did this you are missing the point. It's definitely not to save money. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@rollerbald just teasing I actually watched it twice 👍🏻
@@iangregoryhome No offense taken - really glad to have your here - come back often Gregory! regards, Bill.
Have one of those putty knifes that had a broken handle and was rather rusty. Cleaned and polished the blade and made a new handle from walnut. I enjoy restoring old tools. Nice work.
I'll bet that walnut handle looks great! Thanks for the view and comment and thanks for your service in the USN. Hope you will come back often, Bill.
A great excuse for a new handle of figured walnut or cocobolo or whatever scraps you've been saving because they're too pretty to throw out. See, you intended getting rid of that boring plastic all along.
Larry, that is a great idea! That might make a good video in the future - thanks for the suggestion!
Sorry to say, you spent more on electricity to record the video than the $2.99 that the putty knife is worth! I guess if you enjoyed, great.
I'll bet you are fun to be around Dana. 😁 Thanks for watching and commenting.
Looks fantastic even after “that which we shall not speak of”! It happens to all of us, and that putty knife is still living its best life. Glad to see it has been rehabilitated and has a happy new home!
Thanks Melinda! It's almost like I heard that somewhere before! 😁Good to hear from you!
Mr Bill that little putty knife looks great. That kind of stuff happens to everyone. You'll be back to 100% before you know it and We'll all be tuning in when you put up a video for us. Take care see ya later.
Thanks George! I sure appreciate your support! This recovery is sure taking longer than I had hoped, but at least I'm on an upward trend. The Doc told me it would take a while and i believe him now! 😁
I know you made an oops but it still looks great and 100% better than it was when you started. Nicely done Mr Bill
Thanks Ivan! I figured someone else might learn from my mistake! Sure glad to hear from you again, regards, Bill.
So many people would probably toss that out when it got all covered in paint and stuff. Nice to recover something like that from being tossed. That was a little mistake and it's like a new knife ready to go now. Hope the road to recovery for you is short and smooth and we'll be sticking around for your next video. Thanks for showing us the mistake, many people would edit it. 👍🏻
Hello again Mike! I like to try to restore things that others would just toss out - it's a sickness I guess. 😁Glad you watched the video and I always appreciate your comments, regards, Bill.
Great clean up! I like it. Human beings do human things! I like you took it with humor. That work is still very impressive!!
Thanks Mark! As you know I do make mistakes sometimes! 😁
Came out great still i believe... better the handle than a knuckle...lol... amazing how hot those can get something and quick too... great job though!
Thanks Vic! I will know better next time for sure. Glad you are here and thanks for the comment!
Nice cleanup Bill. Even though you made a mistake on the handle it still looks great! Glad you’re feeling better.
Thanks Frank! Great to hear from you again and I'm glad you are here. Best to you, Bill.
The blued finish looks great!
Thanks MagDad! I thought the bluing would be appropriate for this wrench. I learned much from your channel about bluing. Thanks for the comment!
I have been there and done that, and i do have a respect for the felt wheels now. You got it to shine and look good. You did a good job.
Thanks Dale! This was a lesson I won't forget! 😁
I've cooked plastic handles while trying to polish them too. Your before and after is still excellent!
Thanks MagDad! Lesson learned. We all learn from experience!
Though it may be unappealing I like a larger than standard handle in my 8 oz ball peen
Thanks for watching the video and commenting John! I appreciate it and hope you will come back often. Regards, Bill.
I love old tool like this one. And I like when somebody is addicted as me. Nice work, Bill. 👍🏻
Great to hear from you again! Thanks for the watch and comment. I enjoy your channel very much! regards, Bill.
Bill, sorry to hear about your struggle with gravity! I hope you heal up soon. Glad that recliner is comfortable, cause being uncomfortable in my recliner would just suck! Get well soon. Oh, the wrench came out great, love the waxed finish.
Thanks David! I'm gradually getting better, was able to walk a little yesterday without walker or cane. I liked the way the handle looked without any stain, so just hit it with some wax. I sure appreciate you being here and commenting! Bill.
Sorry to hear about your fall. I hope you fell better soon. I enjoyed the clean-up it turned out great, thanks for sharing your expertise Bill
Thank you Michael! I am sure glad to hear from you again. The fall could have been a lot worse. Mrs. rollerbald fell around 20 months ago and spent 2 weeks in the hospital with surgery on a broken hip. Falling is no longer allowed at our house. 😁 All the best to you, Bill.
Beautiful restoration Bill I've never seen a Chuck like that on a drill that old.
Thanks Michael! Yes, you don't see many of those collet type drill chucks any more. I had to figure out exactly how it worked after removing it. Once you tighten down the collet you use the allen bolt or a screwdriver slot on the other side to lock it in place. Glad you liked the video! Bill.
Fantastic Mr. Bill! I knew you were the guy for that wrench! I love the way it came out well used and loved. That's not an easy finish to achieve. I'm not an i told you so kind of guy but i told you "Those under ground kick boxing matches were gonna catch up with you" 😉. Take care and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
HaHa! Thanks for the comment and for the wrench George! No more kickboxing for me, but I refuse to give up running marathons.😁
DUDEZILLA, getting old suuuuuuuuucks! I tell the kids at work that your mind STILL thinks you're 18 BUT your body is screaming hell no you're NOT!!
Isn't that the truth Andy! Stay safe, Bill.
Sorry to hear about your mishap. Hopefully you will fully recover so you can continue to make the great videos we all enjoy watching Mr Bill. The old Coes wrench turned out great. Nicely done
I plan to keep on keeping on Ivan! I sure appreciate your support, Bill.
Sorry to hear you lost your bounce I haven't tried it yet but my bounce probably isn't any good either. Take care of your self and keep the videos comming. You did a good job on the wrench. Giong with the blueing is a good choice. It looks great. Watch your step.
Thanks Dale. I'm ordinarily pretty sure footed, but there is a first time for everything. I like the bluing also. Thanks!
Sorry to hear about your mishap. I hope you make a full recovery. I know how you feel I’m a senior citizen like you and I fell twice in the last few months and hurt my shoulder and I’m still in a lot of pain. The wrench looks real nice. Love your channel and your sense of humor!
Thanks Frank, it is always good to hear from you and I really appreciate your support! Best regards, Bill.
Sorry to hear about your leg. Nice video.
Thanks beerdrinker! I wasn't even drinking beer when that happened!😁Best to you, Bill.
Great video! That metal bluing is beautiful. Well done project. Muscle and tendon injuries are the pits… ask me how I know! I’m looking forward to more future projects and tool saves soon!!
Thanks Mark! Stay tuned, more to come!
Just the right amount of clean up. Very nicely done! Hope you heal fast, thanks for sharing
@@91Z50 Thank you for the comment! Regards, Bill.
Looks a lot better Bill. And yea, bouncing is reserved for the young! Stay safe and mend quickly. Maybe a Q&A video while ya mend. Lots of interaction, minimal running!!!
Thanks hiker! Feeling a little better, just going to take time. The docs say that recovery from this type of injury takes months not weeks. Yuck. Thanks for being here!
Very wise to add the ground wire. Those old drills were not double insulated and if the hot side shorted to the metal then you had a great handle on 120 volts . Now tools are double insulated . Not only did you do a great job on the restoration but you made it more safe too!
Hi Richard! Yes the grounded plug was necessary for sure. I watched a @ScoutCrafter video where he did a similar drill and I grounded it to handle of the case the way he did. Thanks for the comment!
Beautiful job Bill!
Thanks MagDad! I appreciate the view and comment!
Victory indeed! All cleaned up it looks like a piece of art. Really cool cleanup!
Thanks Melinda! It did clean up nicely! Thanks for the comment.
I NEVER cared what they all said, You DO NOT do 'shotty' work! The drill is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (yeah I had to 'GOOGLE' Mary Poppins to make sure I spelled it right!!!
HaHa! Thanks for sticking up for me Andy - I need all the support I can get! Good to hear from you!
Fantastic Mr. Bill! Careful with that Ozone you might find a bunch of tool restorers in your shop. That's like a scent trail. 😅. Take Buddy! See ya soon.
HaHa! You are probably right about the scent trail! 🤣I appreciate the comment George!
Very nice Mr Bill!
Thank you Ivan - always great to hear from you! Regards, Bill.
Excellent work! Thanks for the breakdown and step process. What a beautiful tool. Loved the Robert Duvall clip! 😄👍
Thanks Joseph! Sometimes I just can't help myself with the clips! 😁 Regards, Bill.
Great video Bill, came out awesome!
Thank you David! I like the way it shined up - it was a rewarding project.
All I can say is WOW! You did a great job giving that drill a new life. 👍
Thanks Frank! I sure appreciate the comment. Best to you, Bill.
And the bearings still sound OK! They don't make 'em like that, anymore. Must really be satisfying. Congrats!
Thanks Larry! I may open it up and put some more fresh grease in it, but honestly it will not be used much. It is a nice old drill for sure. Thanks for being here, Bill.
Great work buddy
Hey shedmanx! good to hear from you again! Best, Bill.
Very nice video.
Thanks beerdrinker! Appreciate the view and comment, Bill.
That style was so futuristic back when, still looks great. Nice work Bill!
Thanks Hiker! Glad you liked it - think that style still looks great also.
Beautiful job on that classic drill! It’s a piece of art now. 😃👍
Thanks John! I'm really glad you watched the video and commented! Best regards, Bill.
Love the ratchet the best . Nice job!
I agree Harvey - the ratchet is my favorite also. It's in with my 'user' tools now. I think it came out pretty well for the shape it was in. Thanks for commenting. Bill
Great tool haul !
Thanks Harvey! Glad to see you here! Best, Bill.
Beautiful workmanship!😎👍
Thanks Harvey! I'm sure glad you watched and commented! Glad to have you here and hope you will come back often. Best regards, Bill
Great job Bill! Chuck was lovin' all of the Flitz polishing!
Thanks MagDad! Flitz is my go to polish for shiny metal and hard plastic now. I have tried others, but so far Flitz works best. Thanks for showing me the way!
I rhrived im drafting/architecture classes back when. My dad always said, "Son. It's all gonna be computers soon" Wish i had listened!!
Your Dad was right! I am reminded of Mark Twain's quote “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.” 😁 I know that was true in my case for sure! Thanks for being here hiker! Best to you, Bill.
Amazing to find one of those! That is certainly a jackpot find! Reminds me of my old drafting classes. The magic 8 ball always knows what’s best!! Haha!
Hi Mark! Sometimes the magic 8 ball requires some supervision. 😁
