      Thanks Michael! I am 'color challenged' (partially color blind) but the red mahogany is pleasing to my eyes. Thanks for the comment! Regards, Bill.

      Thanks! I don't like to see quality tools (or anything) just cast aside as junk. I like to rescue the ones that I can. This saw has gone to a good home where it will be used and taken care of. Best regards, Bill

    The saw came out great! Disstonian Institute has a lot of good information on Disston saws.

      Thanks MagDad! I checked there for matching medallions and that's where I came up with my estimate. Could not find a picture of this saw. Anyway, it's been saved from a rusty fate and will be used and cared for from now on. Regards, Bill.

    Very nice restoration. That old Disston crosscut saw didn't appear to have to much use after you removed the dirt and rust. The red mahogany is one of my favorite stains for antique wooden tool handles. It's looks great and cuts and cut very well.

      Thanks Ivan! It's going to get used and has already gone to a new home where it will be taken care of. Glad you commented, best regards, Bill.

    Good one Bill. I think you did a fantastic job on the saw. Lots of sanding! But worth it in the end. I've never tried the vinegar bath, always just used Evaporust. May have to give the vinegar a try.

    • @rollerbald
      @rollerbald  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks David. Evaporust is much faster and attacks only the rust. Vinegar takes longer and you have to be careful not to leave the piece in too long. I think that blade was in the vinegar for about 3 days. It's a lot cheaper though! Thanks for the comment, Bill.

    Nice job on the little saw. You made it look really good. I have used that Navel Jelly before and wasn't impressed with it. The handle looked real good , nice choice in stain. I have some old saws to restore some time in the future. I may have to borrow some Idas.

      The Navel jelly didn't do much for me either Dale. Maybe I didn't leave it on long enough, I'm not sure. Anyway the rusty saw was saved and will be put to use now. Thanks for the comment and thanks for the 'care package' I received today! Bill.

    Beautiful restoration Mr. Bill! You put in a lot of time with the sanding and it shows with the quality results you got. How do you like that Navel Jelly? I got some but haven't tried it yet.

      Hi George. Yes it was pretty time and labor intensive. The Naval Jelly works OK - not so good on pitted rust but better on surface rust. Sure appreciate the good words - thanks!
