The first time I watched this I wasn’t teaching, so I’m NGL. I sympathized, but thought you MUST have been exaggerating. Started teaching myself and realized… you weren’t. This video is so cathartic!!!

God Bless You! I am a special education teacher. I have been teaching for over 15 years now. I think so much stress could be alleviated by a supportive administration, but unfortunately that is almost nonexistent in education. They say there is a special education teacher shortage, but in my experience they want to save costs by hiring long term substitute teachers and keeping teachers assistants as pseudo teachers. This might sound paranoid to some, but my husband has a friend whose brother is an assistant principal and he confirmed that this is a practice his school district engages in. In fact, they lure experienced special education teachers in with hiring bonuses and then do everything in their power to get rid of them. Corruption and lack of support are rampant in the school districts, and not only do teachers suffer, but children suffer as well! I’m sorry for everything you went through!

I am 2 1/2 years too late, my dear, but GOOD ON YOU for making a choice for your own physical and mental health! I, too, have had a work situation that was not healthy. No, I wasn't a teacher, but it was also very stressful. I left work one day in a puddle of tears, and after another day or two of staying home "sick" and crying non-stop, I decided I had to choose on the side of my health and risk losing that income in the hopes of finding something better. So I do know, on some level, what you went through. I found you via Bored Teachers and you literally crack me up. I work in a school (office), and I can relate to so many of the stories you share. I'm so glad you have found something better and I do hope that you are still enjoying this better thing! Bless you, my dear, and thank you for sharing your heart.

The teachers in my district are going on strike soon and as a para professional I cannot blame them one bit I can see the things they put up with everyday in their class. No regular special Eds any more they shove them in regular classes and wonder why teachers are stressed. They don’t get paid enough for that. Kids need more discipline, proper discipline not this gentle parenting bs because it obviously doesn’t work with how disobedient these kids are now

The next generation of teachers will be these kids. They will not be successful if the administration doesn’t take care of the teachers of today.

We went from modest 2 jobs and I am now staying home. It’s tough to live on 2 modest income. We would rather suffer financially and raise our child to be better than ourselves . We plan to homeschool and utilize these teachers as tutoring professionals! These teachers will have a job with parents who appreciate their hard work 😊

I had co-workers tell the school-“it’s your problem. I am at work.” It’s not the schools responsibility to teach your children to be decent people!!!

In our district there is an incentive to NOT report any disruptive behavior! The schools with the lowest level of violence, bullying and highest attendance are given the most money. A friend’s child was jumped at school and HIS overachieving son was punished! The school said because his son dropped his backpack when he was attacked. Dropping his book bag was considered an act of cooperation in the fight 🤷🏻‍♀️ There’s no punishment for the kids who are in school disrupting the classroom and attacking others and teachers!😢

The expectations for teachers are utterly unreasonable. I retired 15 years ago and during the 'crisis', I had weekly pleas to come back. Now parents ask me to tutor/teach specific things to their children. In a few cases I do. Usually no.

And as a n Autistic ADHD student whose friend group was primarily SpEd students, that chaotic environment and a classroom that packed is also not helping their situation either. That environment is so overstimulating and a lot of times especially neurodivergent kids are gonna act out more because they’re dysregulated and it just contributes to the cycle. Our school system really needs to do better

I taught first grade last year and our whole team was getting beaten up by students in our classrooms. Stomping on our feet, punched, pushed, spit on, tackled, cussed at (stfu, B), and threatened. This is general education. You guys haven’t seen anything yet. We are talking about six and seven year olds with no consequences. I had a student throw a chair at me because I told him he wasn’t allowed to eat another students’ lunch and, I’m not kidding, my admin took him for ten minutes and he returned with a bag of chips that she said he was allowed to eat in class.

I don’t have the answers but I have some ideas!! As an early childhood educator, I’d start with smaller class sizes, prioritizing teaching social skills, and ACTUAL access to counseling services. At the schools I taught, we never had counselors who were allowed to do the job for which there were hired. They were testing coordinators, lunch monitors, hallway monitors, everything but actually helping these poor kids who desperately need someone to talk to, strategies for dealing with these huge emotions, etc etc. And we need specific consequences for specific actions EVERY TIME. You put your hands on the teacher, you go to alternative campus for a specified amount of time. Public education is a right but not under any and all circumstances. There are many rules like no phones. They can easily enforce that but they can’t enforce protecting their teachers. Make it make sense.

Sometimes counselors don't want to change the student's schedule because then, they have to think and that is more work to them, yeah, moving their finger to type in the computer.. they didn't care about teacher's really.

My heart goes out to you because I understand how challenging teaching can be. I pray for your healing and restoration because I totally get it. I was an administrator, and I had to ask secretary 1 if secretary 2 could help me with things like translation or any other secretarial duties. Secretary 1 even wrote a letter of lies about me and gave it to the principal. After meeting with the principal and secretary 1 to discuss the letter, I went to my office. Then, walked back to the principal's office for a copy of the letter. She had given it back to secretary 1. I wrote HR and well nothing was done. My blood pressure was 200 over 100. I was mentally tortured. To this day, I want even substitute, and I have a doctorate degree in education. Totally traumatized.

It wasn't a heart attack but I seriously felt I was going to pass out. I was able to text my elementary principal that I HAD to leave because I felt like I was about to lose consciousness. The only response I got was to send them to the other teacher across the parking lot. No one came to check or help. I don't think they even told the other teacher. I had to do it (thankfully I had his number!). So while just barely holding on I walked a bunch of questioning and difficult students (many who seemed to be laughing at how I was acting) across campus to the other teacher. I was finally able to sit at my desk in quiet until I at least felt (hopefully) strong enough to go home. I almost wish sometimes I had passed out.

Kids have too much rights. They dont own a damn thing so if i take something from my child because she did something wrong in school i honestly (even though i do) dont have to explain why i did what i did. KIDS KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG THEY JUST DONT CARE. My child doesnt own shit in my house. If she doesnt do whats right and is all outside being disrespectful i take what i gave fuck the dumb shit. You not about to be comfortable in my house but out terrorizing the world.

You are definitely an inspiration for me through out the years watching your videos. I’m a special education assistant teacher and it’s a small group of them but they are still a handful. You are most definitely in my prayers. God got you sis. You did the right thing. But the one that said they have them in their class and they aren’t a problem is the main one that couldn’t handle the class you had. I hate when people do that. How about be a support to your fellow teachers instead of acting like you can do better. A sign of kissing butt. And administration is a joke around America.

Agree with everything. Experienced most in addition to admin’s attempt (new school) to fire me for incompetence after 33 years of outstanding ratings, receiving special pay for test scores, and being the sped/regular Ed dual certified teacher. I was too old at 56. Constant admin evaluations, untruths told, marked down on eval because I did not waddle for the kids when I read Makeway for Ducklings. I was a wreck and having a breakdown. Ended up retiring before having enough years in my state for full retirement and of course no health insurance then. Worry over income was so stressful too. Ended up applying for SS and actually got it. Didn’t replace my income but helped. Health insurance costs a fortune!
