I love that you are embracing a subject that you aren't as confident in. It reminds me of the first day of freshman algebra class when the teacher said he didn't want girls crying about it because we would fail because girls just aren't good at math. I didn't fail but I did hate it and felt like a failure. A couple of years later I had to take a second algebra class and was sure I'd fail. Changing your own attitude about math, using all your BEAUTIFUL enthusiasm and humor to inspire children to love math will be the best best best thing you do. And…that attitude that math is nothing more and nothing less than a super fun puzzle to solve is going to be A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!! For you! Your honesty and wisdom are sooooo inspiring!!!

As a math teacher, I have the warm and fuzzies hearing about your and your kids success with the content. When a kid gets it, it is an amazing feeling of pride. I had a kid tell me he actually had fun doing one of the assignments this week. I nearly cried 🤣
Can I get that resource? Lol. But seriously, reteaching myself geometry after being comfortable teaching math until shapes get added. I can see my students becoming more confused lately so I’m going to have to review. I know I can do it though, passed my state math exams twice to prove it. Thanks for all you do! My math teacher when I was in middle school made me become a teacher!
When I was in 9th grade, I had an amazing algebra teacher. It was a block class for kids who hadn’t done well in pre-algebra (my class had been overcrowded and rowdy to the point I couldn’t focus). My block algebra teacher used different learning methods to convey information, the class was small, and she just had such a way of explaining things. I fell in love with algebra and it became so fun for me that I wrote out algebraic formulas for a new wardrobe I was planning to create on a NYC trip my mom was taking me on. Mrs. Green gave me confidence in math where I had none, and opened a door to something I never would have considered fun or creative.
High school math teacher here. I love that you are growing to like math a little. Keep it up! The students will catch your enthusiasm. First week back, my next door teacher had Covid, so I pulled double duty helping answer questions and grading papers for her kids as well as mine. I’m thankful for a marvelous student teacher who has jumped right in with both feet!
I agree with you 100%! I was in a different school district w/ different expectations & treatment, as well as less pay, & least to say, not a good experience or treated well! Love my new school district, admin., school team, & staff! I also have to wake up at 5:00am for the start of a 7:10am day, which is challenging, but worth the reward in sooooo many other ways! I am supported, feel supported, heard, encouraged, made to feel just as important as our students & families, & a real part of a school family & culture! And, it doesn't hurt that I get paid more! The change over process was challenging, scary, stressful, & sad, & I definitely felt betrayed and hurt, but it all worked out for the best, & would never go back! I'm finally happy going to work, feel accomplished for myself & my students, & I know I am supported, appreciated, & cared about by my amazing admin, team, & all staff! Sometimes, we get put in horrible & unexpected positions & don't know what to do or whst will happen, but never give up, always have faith, & know that GOD has a plan for you & a reason for everything, even though we might not know what that is at the time! So happy for you & best of luck!❤😊
My daughter had a math teacher in 5th grade who was staunch about her students learning to find decimals through dividing the numerator by the denominator. My daughter could understand a different, but the teacher wanted the kids to learn her way. My daughter struggled. 6th grade come along and my daughter’s math teacher announced, “Hey, I want you to find the right answer and I don’t care how you find it. Plus, you may use a method that I don’t know and you can teach me!” I sent that teacher a note praising her for her openness. I loved that lady.
You look so happy! Glad to see you're back in your passion 💜. As a nurse I so totally understand. When I'm not cracking up retelling stories to people who cant believe it, I'm in my car crying I need a new profession 🙄 It's a love/hate type of career ❤☮🍷
Oh wow, Lady...you are GLOWING! So happy for you and your students. Math is a tough subject to learn, and the teachers I had were some of the most influential in my life.
So happy for you! I am retiring from 37 years of teaching math...you will find your groove and love it...school you are at and peeps you work with are all the difference!❤
I am sooo happy for you! It’s great that you have landed in a place where you are valued and supported and your love for teaching has been restored. I know those students are going to fall in love with you because they know you care about them. There is no greater joy as a teacher than when a student says ‘I get it now!’ You can see their understanding and joy on their face! Bless you! Have a wonderful rest of the year!
I taught ESL and ELA for over 10 years. Last year, I became the math teacher for an alternative high school. I now love math and want to do more of it!!
Oh my gosh, I love your videos so much! I was in tears listening to you talk about how the kids are realizing they can do math! I started watching you because you start each video with, “Hey best friends!” My late son called everyone his best friend. He was seven when he passed. Listening to you reminds me of him. Thank you!!
As someone who has only ever taught at one school and has to leave at the end of the year, it's so wonderful to see your enthusiasm. It gives me so much hope that I can return to the classroom some day.
I’m a retired teacher now but I can relate to your story! I went from teaching elementary to teaching middle school. I thought I was going to teach language arts and got put in a math position! My mom had taught 6th grade, so every night I would go to her house and ask her to show me how to teach the next day’s concept! But like you said, I really enjoyed it once I got the hang of it! I love hearing about your journey! Thanks for sharing! ❤
@@margybernard , I had my AIG certification in K-8. It all worked out great! I wound up loving it and could relate to my students who thought they couldn’t do it!
I am a math teacher too after being reading/ela teacher for 15 years. When I get something and the kids do too, I'm so happy. I feel you... I feel like a first yr teacher as well, new school, grade and subject
I taught kindergarten last year! I took a leap of faith when I switched schools and school districts and grade levels! I am teaching preschool again! It was the best thing I EVER did!! It such a better environment!
So glad you had a great first week! That exhaustion at the end of a full week of teaching is no joke, though. I seriously went to bed Friday night at 9. **9**! As a 7-12th grade English teacher, NOBODY would be hiring me to teach math. I'm not really even sure I could get away with teaching 3rd grade math... 😂I instituted a new policy with my English classes that 95% of our assignments will now be written by hand because I was tired of (1) cheating, and (2) students trying to play video games when they were supposed to be doing assignments. 🙄OH, the moaning and GROANING! You'd have thought I was torturing them on the rack instead of just making them write out their assignments by hand.
Hint from a fellow former struggling math student: if you find yourself not getting through to them on a concept or skilled you’ve tried all the ways you know to teach it, have students help each other and come up with the right answer, then have them show the other kids how to do it. Sometimes it takes another kid to teach a peer! Worked great for me in the 22 years I taught math with a Clothing, Textiles and Design major. One math class in college!
Oh, my goodness! I am so happy for you. Also, you are so right that seeing the lightbulb go off at long last is such a rewarding moment. I got a little emotional when you talked about it, because I feel the exact same way when the kids I tutor finally get it and can do the work independently.
So glad to see you back in the classroom! I miraculously got through three college degrees (all English) without taking a single math class. Then I decided I wanted a Biology degree and had to take two remedial classes before I could take one for credit. And then I made A's in all my chemistry classes. I can't say I enjoy math, but you're right, once you know what you're doing, it's not half bad, can even be like a puzzle that's fun to solve.
The BEST math teachers are those who found it difficult growing up!! You are more able to relate to the difficulty the student's have. I am so so glad that you have found a school family that you love. I bet you are so fun to have as a teacher. Students probably fight to get into your ckass!!! Meeting you was a major highlight of my summer last summer. I hope you continue to make videos and find more joy in your new position. This is how teaching is SUPPOSED to be. Every teacher should enjoy their students and experience the pleasure of watching their students achieve and grow in the learning process. There will always be challenges, but the rewards are limitless when you are in the right place. So happy for you!! Love you best friend!! JHoxie
So glad you found and took a chance on a BETTER (more supportive) ENVIRONMENT 🙌🏾 You are going to be so WELL ROUNDED as a teacher at the end of this because you broke out of your comfort zone and discovered skills you didn't know that you had!
I'm glad you are in a better spot to keep doing what you do. Climate and surroundings definitely help in this field. Yes it's gonna be stressful and unperfect no matter where you are but being around the right people makes all the difference!
I just want to say that you're one of the people that inspired me to start substitute teaching and looking into my teaching license. Your perspectives have been so helpful for me to navigate my way and your attitude about working with kids really helps me laugh off some of the ridiculous things that happens in our classrooms. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences! So happy you found a great school for you.
"I'm not proud of what's about to come out of my mouth.... like'n math...!" You just CRACKED ME UP!! And yes, school is school, kids are kids, but WOW when kids learn - there is no joy like it! BLESSINGS to you and the kids!
I'm so glad you took time to take care of yourself. You bring smiles to so many people. I love following you and I'm so happy you're back in the classroom with the rest of us.
I’m a retired speech pathologist and love to hear your trials and joys. Everyone in any type of educational role can relate to your ups and downs. Congratulations for making a healthy move of districts and a mental shift. Too better mental health. Woo hoo. You rock
Welcome back to the classroom. I think it is wonderful that you made the decision to go back. I love your enthusiasm. The students need role models like you in their lives! All the best!
Glad to hear your 1st week went well I am teaching biology this year and creating lessons daily and sometimes it can be overwhelming for switching from 13 years of chemistry to biology). . Thank you for your honesty and sharing the teary moments . Look forward to hearing how week 2 goes
I understand the first year teacher feeling. I started over in a new school new district that requires me to get up at 5am as well and I am teaching a subject I've never taught as well! But I love it! God showed out with this assignment! 🙏
Can I just say that I love how straight up you are. I went from math to reading. It’s not easy to switch your brain. I’m starting to like this reading (library classes)thing though as it allows for more creativity. I cannot wait for your next video. They are just like we are having a conversation.
Some of the best teachers are the ones that have to teach a subject that they are not the strongest or most familiar with teaching. These teachers work harder to give the best to their students. These are also the teachers that have high expectations, because they are working hard too. There is nothing better than working with people like this!!!!
Lol I am also an English teacher who once taught math. I had tons of the same comments from my kids and LOVED those moments where they realized they could actually do math. Kids have been told forever that math is hard and they are bad at it, but it's totally learnable for all kids. It takes the grace you mentioned though.
I just watched your videos on why you quit teaching. It was heartbreaking. I was sad for all of the teachers, like yourself, that had to walk away from the classroom. I could tell you were a great teacher. I am so glad you are back at school!!
I feel you on the early mornings! I get up at 5 am as well and our school starts at 7:10, too. No human needs to be sitting in class at 7 in the morning. Way too early!!!
Education needs you, but also if they do ya dirty, mental health above all else. So grateful you found a place you can thrive in, that appreciates you! ❤
I left teaching last year too. I had been dealing with a lot of difficulties during the school year especially at the end. I got a completely different job and I thought for sure I would never ever go back. Well time marched on and I am back in teaching as a substitute for now. I am happier to be at a different school (it’s not perfect) cause you said it perfectly teaching is teaching. But I’m glad to be back and hopefully will be having my own classroom when I feel prepared to fully take on the responsibilities. Right now enjoying subbing
Retired math teacher here. 34 years 6, 7, 8 th grade math/ Algebra. I miss it. I love math! Wish I could help you. I understand middle school taking them to lunch. I did that for many many years. I get that. Craziness. Pick up is terrible too. Enjoy your weekend.
So, so happy you are back in the classroom! It made me so sad when you left because you are a gift to the children! I left the profession as well, but I miss the kids. Thinking about going back too!
You seem so happy to be back with the kids. I still have a few weeks before I get back into the classroom. I miss my kids. I've always said I love teaching, except for the adults I have to deal with. 😂😂

Congratulations!! You deserve a good school. I love my math block.. especially this one girl who has a pattern of whining that she doesn’t get it after 2 minutes of me teaching and 10 minutes later saying “oooooooh!! This is so easy!” That’s what I live for.

"I'm not proud of what's about to come out of my mouth.... like'n math...!" You just CRACKED ME UP!! And yes, school is school, kids are kids, but WOW when kids learn - there is no joy like it! BLESSINGS to you and the kids!
Oh my gosh I AM SO HAPPY PLEASE YOU SEEM LIKE SUCH AN AWEOSME TEACHER BUT PLEASE KEEP DOING WHAT YOU LOVE
I'm so glad you took time to take care of yourself. You bring smiles to so many people. I love following you and I'm so happy you're back in the classroom with the rest of us.
They are lucky to have you! I’m glad you are teaching because you are 100% doing what you are meant to do.
It is so nice to see you so happy. I am loving that you found a place that's right for you.
Glad to hear your 1st week went well I am teaching biology this year and creating lessons daily and sometimes it can be overwhelming for switching from 13 years of chemistry to biology). . Thank you for your honesty and sharing the teary moments . Look forward to hearing how week 2 goes
I am so glad you found a new school!!!!!!! You are a treasure. We all need super teachers like you!!!!
So great to see you happy with your new job! I know you're a blessing to the children you teach.
I understand the first year teacher feeling. I started over in a new school new district that requires me to get up at 5am as well and I am teaching a subject I've never taught as well! But I love it! God showed out with this assignment! 🙏
This is my favorite video you have ever made!! I'm so happy for you!! Good admin+happy teachers=learning excellence!!
Lol! I love teaching math and seeing the lightbulbs go off when the concepts make sense to the students. ❤
Bonjour! Happy to see you teaching again. We all learn and grow at different paces. One ❤️
Your excitement is so great! You got this girlfriend!
Congratulations on your new job and I hope this year and next year is very successful
Congrats! So happy for you. Very much success in the years to come.
Sending hugs! I’m glad to see you smiling.
Can I just say that I love how straight up you are. I went from math to reading. It’s not easy to switch your brain. I’m starting to like this reading (library classes)thing though as it allows for more creativity. I cannot wait for your next video. They are just like we are having a conversation.
So good of that other teacher to make sure you didn’t bring home your work 👍🏽
Some of the best teachers are the ones that have to teach a subject that they are not the strongest or most familiar with teaching.
I thank God that you found a good environment for yourself. You have been delivered.
Education needs you, but also if they do ya dirty, mental health above all else. So grateful you found a place you can thrive in, that appreciates you! ❤
I'm so glad you came back to teaching I hope that this time it works out for you!
Happy you’re in a better place. You deserve it and the kids are lucky to have you
I love the colors on the board behind you.😁
I LOVE that you like Math! So happy for you! And there’s a Tristan in every class! 34 years teaching here. Best to you!
Glad you're back teaching. You're the best!
Math is a beautiful language! It’s all around us ❤ I’m so happy you’re growing to enjoy it 🎉
I can see and feel your joy!!! You have given me hope. Maybe I need to find a school environment that makes me smile like you.
MYOB, Susan! 🤣🤣🤣 Love that you found the right fit!!! ❤️
I am glad you are back and enjoy teaching. Kids no doubt realize you put forth the effort and don't tell them they can't learn math. 👏 Bravo.
I understand how you feel. I love it coming to my class every morning.
I wish I -- my kids -- my grandkids had you for a teacher!! 😁😍😁😍
You are so brave and amazing. As an English teacher, I honestly admire you for this.
When I was a child going to middle school and all that fun stuff if I had the right teacher for teaching me the right stuff I learned so much better! I remember having different math teachers and learning so much differently each time.
Congratulations!! You deserve a good school. I love my math block.. especially this one girl who has a pattern of whining that she doesn’t get it after 2 minutes of me teaching and 10 minutes later saying “oooooooh!! This is so easy!” That’s what I live for.
Glad to see you back in the classroom. Happy you’ve found a building with stag and admin that are supportive. ❤️💫✨
I found that teaching a subject that is a challenge for me makes me a better teacher. I’m so concerned that I’m not good enough to teach it that I miss nothing to teach them. Every single step! :)
I'm glad you're having fun teaching again!
You made me smile! I taught 3 yr olds and that light bulb moment is just the best! You keep going, letting that math grow on you (ew! I prefer English.) So very proud. 💜😊
Celebrating you and your opportunities....loving seeing you back in the saddle.
You have me in my feelings, so happy for you!! I'm also praying I find the school I belong in. I still don't feel accepted by my department and PLC, but have so many teachers from other parts of the school check in with me often!
Super proud of you for getting back up and making the best life and being an amazing teacher for the kiddos. You are amazing! All the best for the school year.
I am so glad you found a new school!!!!!!! You are a treasure. We all need super teachers like you!!!!
So happy you are teaching again! Love your stories and videos!
