Oooh i didn’t know danez smith had a new book out!!! I’m so excited for lots of these, especially sarah moss and eliza clark ❤
Hi lovely! YES, Danez Smith is one of my favourite poets. I've just read the Sarah Moss, it was wonderful x
So fab to see My Favourite coming up! What an amazing selection of books...
Thank you for sending me a copy! I'm spoilt, aren't I? 😍
Unrelated but please share which paint you used for your walls - love the colour ❤
Haha with pleasure! It's Red Earth by Farrow and Ball (though we got a local seller to mix up the colour match for us) x
Food for thought. So many books and so little time. The ever expanding tbr! Happy reading to you.
True that! Happy reading 😊
This ranking is spot on!
Been waiting for your video, your videos make happy and I love all of your recommendation videos❤
Oh that's so lovely to hear! Thank you for letting me know 😊 x
I haven't heard of any other books on your list . I'm assuming that's because I'm in the United States of America.
Oh interesting! What are the most hyped releases coming out near you?
Jackal I've been on the face can't make up my mind whether I want to read it or not.
I'll be interested to start seeing the reviews coming in soon!
Fire Exit is sitting on my desk.I haven't read it yet.
Ooh I hope we both love it! I'm starting it soon 😊
🧡🍂
Thank you for watching, lovely x

Thank you for watching, lovely!
Ordered "An Equal Music" instantly! A Suitable Boy has always intimidated me, but these feels like a slightly less daunting intro to Seth :) This was the perfect video to watch right after just watching another video entitled "why does every book feel the same now?" Thanks so much, Jasmine!
Yay! That makes me so happy, especially as I don't hear of many people reading it at all. I hope you love it - please let me know 😃
So many books and so little time. The ever growing tbr. Best wishes with what you choose to read.
I know the feelings! Thanks so much, you too ☺
Oh dear , I have to add them all to my tbr. but I'll start with Gilead. I have that top by the way , but it looks better on you 😀
Haha yay! That makes me very happy to hear. And aw thank you - it's very comfy!
I love backlisted videos! I have not read Gilead yet, but I did read Housekeeping this month by the same author. It was wonderful.
Me too! I should do more of them. Oooh, adding Housekeeping to my list!
Great video,I'm looking forward to reading som of tgese❤
Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoy whichever you pick up ☺
I still need to read Gilead!
It's a good one!!
@@JasmineReads don’t think I’ll forget this if I hate it now 😜
Great video. Thank you for the recommendations. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, a favorite of mine from the nineties. ❤📚❤️
Thank you for watching! That's a great recommendation - it's on the list ☺
What's your favourite read NOT from the past 10 years? Please give me your recs so I can add them to my list 🙌🏻
Gotta throw in Winterson’s Written on the Body 💪
Missing your videos❤
Hello! New video coming soon 👀
In relation to When Our Worlds Collided what do you mean by “a little bit on the nose with the points the author wanted to make”? Are you referring to the racism shown? Or something else?
I’ve been looking at Frank and Red but wasn’t sure but I might try the audio instead of the physical now actually! Thanks ☺️
Ahh I hope you enjoy! It's a lovely, easy listen 😊
The lead characters name in If My Words Had Wings is Tyrell not Tyrese 🫣 this book is the best book I’ve read this year also!! It should be on the high school curriculum imo! Danielle’s writing is absolute perfection
Oh of course, you're right! And yes, I totally agree - she's such a talent. I'm recommending it to everyone at the moment!
Very interested to hear about Donal Ryan's new novel - I loved The Spinning Heart so I will have to read it again and then read Heart Be At Peace!
Ohhh it was wonderful! Not my favourite Donal Ryan, but still so firmly him that of course it was beautiful 😊
Hi Jasmine, just wanted to say that I read Lily by Rose Tremain that you recommended a while back. I really enjoyed the sense of Victorian London, the sadness of Lily's experience in the foundling hospital and her nostalgia for her childhood home on the farm. Her low self-worth and loneliness were also well explored so overall it was a great read. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hello Mary! Ohh that's great to hear! Rose Tremain is brilliant, isn't she? I've still got a lot of her backlist to explore...
Tbh I find her quite hit and miss - but still can't resist reading everything that she's written! I loved her historical novels - The Colour, Music and Silence... and Restoration is one of my absolute favourite books ever - it's not perfect but it got me into reading so it has a special place in my heart <3
Hi Jasmine, Thanks for sharing, I've written down Sarah Moss's title (I've never read anything by her). If you're interested in the topics of mental health and food, I cannot recommend enough Evanna Lynch's extraordinary memoir "The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting", which is one of my all-time favourites. I've recommended it to Meonicorn (The Bookish Land) and she absolutely loved it too! It is mainly about anorexia nervosa, and Lynch broaches this subject with brio, showing how complex it all is... (I've written about it on my blog if you want to read more about it :)) Xxx
Hi Lilly! Oh that's so exciting that you'll be reading Sarah Moss for the first time. For her fiction, my faves are Ghost Wall or The Fell. Thank you for the recommendation of The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting too. I will definitely check it out - as well as your blog 😊 x
I am currently reading Kairos. While I am really enjoying it, I think it's more of a winter book than a summer one! The prose is beautiful and slow - which doesn't work as well when it's so hot out! It's made me realize seasonal reading is important to me! than I thought! So my next book is definitely going to be something much lighter - maybe an Emily Henry will do the trick.
Ooh interesting! I may bear Kairos in mind for my tbr later this year then 😊 I love a seasonal read - any excuse to embrace the seasons just makes me happy!
SO happy to hear the Lombardo is great. Have had my eye on it for a few weeks but for some reason I was resistant until I got some social proof that my instincts were correct 😂 Thanks, Jasmine! Loved the update
Hi Rick 😊 Ahhh it was so great! I think I even preferred it to her debut (though I now need to reread that to really see...). Hope you enjoy it when you pick it up x
So pleased you enjoyed If My Words Had Wings - Danielle is such a star!
Isn't she?! My favourite YA writer at the moment, hands down x
this month i fell in love with Abby Jimenez's writing. Highly recommend Part of Your World and Yours, Truly. beautiful romances.
Oooh she sounds right up my street! A couple of her audiobooks seem to be available on my library audio app, so I will get reserving 😍
Clean sounds so interesting! The best books I read this year are Three souls by Janie Chang, Nightwatching by Tracy Sierra and Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough.
Thank you so much for the recommendations! Behind Her Eyes is on my library audiobook app, so I may give it a listen at some point soon 😊
I continue to read at a snail's pace but I have several things on the go at the moment including the new Holly Jackson book, a few poetry collections, and Nobody Told Me by Hollie McNish.
Oh I LOVE Holly McNish! I haven't read Nobody Told Me yet - I must pick it up soon!
I like nonfiction but I just don't seem to read too much of it. I did read Educated by Tara Westover some time ago though and that was quite an intriguing story.
I often feel the same way! A couple of months will go by sometimes and I realise I haven't read any ... Yes to Educated! Tara Westover is brilliant 😊
Hi Jasmine, I really wished you could read "Triste tigre" ("Sad tiger") by French author Neige Sinno about incest. It is such an important, crucial topic, yet not talked about enough! It led me to listening to Charlotte Pudlowski's podcast "Ou peut-être une nuit", adapted into a book too ("Or maybe one night", after a song by Barbara I think). "Triste tigre" has won many prizes in France, I hope it'll get translated!! It's very intelligent, full of references (incl. to Nabokov's "Lolita") and very interesting reflections on justice, art, literature, etc. I have written an article about it on my blog but it's in French... It's both autobiographical and literary, very honest and full of nuances... It raises many, many questions and shows the consequences of incest on the victims - not to forget that there are direct victims, but some people around are also involved, who may have suffered, be complicit, etc. "Triste tigre" also shows that incest is a systemic issue, not just something happenning in one or two families, not just a miscellaneous news item. It also shows the weight of silence, the terrible mechanisms at play, both for individuals and on a societal level... An article, which I haven't read, has been published on BookBlast about "Sad tiger", written by Georgia de Chamberet. According to a "sondage" (poll/survey?) by Ipsos for Face à l'inceste (4 and 5/11/2020), 1 in 10 French people say they are victims of incest. I still have to look into the numbers in the UK - G. de Chamberet mentions it at the end of her article. In France, Camille Kouchner's "The Familia Grande: A Memoir" (available in English) has contributed to more and more people speaking more openly about incest, I think. I haven't read it, but in it, she accused her stepfather of having sexually abused her twin brother - her stepfather was a high-profile person, as you can read in the Guardian's article "High-profile French political scientist accused of sexually abusing stepson" by Kim Willsher. Apparently Olivier Duhamel, the stepfather, has admitted having sexually abused his stepson, as written by Micheal Fitzpatrick in his article "Rape, sexual violence charges dropped against French academic, media figure" for RFI. (I have quickly read these articles, please do more research, etc., if you want more accurate information, as always/with everything!) I'm sure there are other very interesting references on this topic in English too, do you know of any? I also recommend Vanessa Springora's memoir "Consent", which also caused a stir in France - TW sexual abuse of a teenage girl, it may be worth looking up for other potential TW if needed... (I use "cause a stir" in a non-pejorative way, it helped get things moving, I think.) Xxx
Hi Lilly! Oh wow, Triste Tigre sounds really interesting. I'll be interested to see if it is translated, at some point. I haven't read any non-fiction on the topic on the topic incest specifically, myself. I love a memoir, so I'll definitely check out Consent! x
@@JasmineReads If you enjoy memoirs, "Consent" and "The Familia Grande" (which I haven't read) could be of interest to you, indeed! Don't hesitate to let us know if you read anything on incest too, this is such an important topic, I'd gladly get your recommendations :) I found interesting that parallels could, in my opinion, be drawn between "Consent" and "Letter from an Unkown Woman" by Stefan Zweig. From what I can remember, both deal with a powerful and charismatic man exerting a destructive fascination over a young woman - who isn't their sole victim, btw... The "stories" (one real, one fictional) are very different of course, and the parallels are limited, but still, I thought there was a little something there! Xxx
