RETRObution is all about nostalgia. Whether it be going back to old games I have never played or seeing if my favourite games from my childhood still hold up today, if you want to talk about old consoles and games then sit back and enjoy RETRObution.

My opinion on the rewind feature is use it whatever you want/need. Game design was not great at the time and very limited to the limitations. It was not made to not frustrate the player it was made to be functional (sometimes barely). As a 31 years old gamer, I play the games to have fun and not get annoyed by design flaws so rewind is fair game and a welcome feature to me.
Nice video man! Grew up playing this on ps1 with my brother and we never made it pass level 1. In co-op your lives are shared, so it is super easy to get a game over. Completed the game when I got a bit older and did find it quite satisfying when you get the combat/blocking down. Agree with your take though. I wouldn't say the game is very good 😂
That Iron Slugger kill was insane lol
This game sucked when it came out. What are they thinking charging 20 bucks for this. They even asked me to pre order it. I thought I was having an acid flashback. I rather have Obi Wan from XBOX remastered.
I love the first game so much and played the 2nd yesterday for the first time. And oh boy… what a bad game! Boring levels and enemies in comparison to the first one but the most annoying part are the bosses and dumb fights (iron slugger). I am happy that there is the rewind function, otherwise I would have deleted this game.
American comedy is the best
I own and played both games on the original PS1, two of my fav games of the PS1 era and really we all missing a 3rd game, and yeah the 2nd game took the difficulty kinda overboard on some levels, still has it's charm. I love after beating both games to play with cheats and mess around XD
Subbed!!
I love the first game and the remake was fantastic

Another Ressurection brother! Welcome aboard
Is that what the MediEvil community call themselves?
@RETRObutionofficial nah. We are just the Medievil Community.
Replaying both the original and 2 made me realize how much more refined and fun the PSP Remake was. It had more charm, better gameplay and a way better flow. I didnt however like the mood of the game compared to 1 and 2 that definitely had a wad darker atmosphere. Thats were the PS4 Remake wins me over more then the PSP one. I would love them to make a Remake of 2 were they hopefully refine some elements and fix certain issues.
Cathrdral Spires and The Descent absolutely have the same charm as the first one. BTW Medievil went from fantastical dark medieval ages to victorian england first, Miyazaki was second! Even all the lovecraftian stuff will fit this transition
It would be a perfect fit
I loved 1 and 2. Ressurection to me was a slap in the face to the original. I loved the Remake they made a few years ago.
Also i used the rewind feature, because I remember the frustrations I had especially at the cathedral. The platforming on and off the chandeliers was very touchy.
Platforming isn't this games strong suit lol
MediEvil, American McGee's Alice, Parasite Eve... frickin' sequel degradation.
my opinion on the replay feature is, be careful. because you are essentially deciding what is and isint the challenge the developers intended for you, which will change your gameplay experience. though id agree that iron slugger is way a bit unfair becuase of its difficulty, even if you know whats going on (and its a gameplay mechanic that comes out of nowhere so you wouldnt without a guide)
Yeah I can see myself falling into using it a bit too much. Going forward I might use it as a way to cutout bullshit old checkpoint systems and things like that
@@RETRObutionofficialold medievil fan here! Don't really know what the rewind thing is but due to the context of your conversation here, it seems to be similar to a save feature. If you want my opinion, you should use it. As much as I like the series, it's a product of it's time and a lot of the times unfair because of gameplay limitations. Use any way you can to continue the adventure I say!
For the most part I agree, but if someone is having trouble with the challenge the developer intended, be that because the challenge itself is BS or whatever other reason, I don't mind having rewinds or save states or what have you around to mitigate it. It's essentially an accessibility feature people can opt in or out of.
We need medievil 2 remake and a brand new medievil 3!
I'd love to see it but I can't see it happening sadly
@@Milosh-o3k yeah but ever seen I noticed astro bot being nominated awarded makes me hope for little bit for a medievil 2 remake
A remake is a must not for completion but to fix all thw flaws! I mean why not?
7:02 Best way i found to deal with these head crab enemies when they aren't attached, is to throw your Axe. Always kills them one shot 👌🏻
Thanks for the tip. It'll come in handy IF I go back for the platinum
@RETRObutionofficial No worries! I got the platinum myself, so I defo recommend going for it. It was great fun! :)
The first one was my favorite PS1 game as a kid. It's cool to see somebody touch the second one that I never really played
Do you have a PS4/5?
@RETRObutionofficial no, I moved to PC eventually and then grabbed an Xbox later for Sports games
Out of the versions I played (GC, PS2, og PC, HD PC, and Quest 2), I'd have to say my favorite one is the Quest 2. I love the HD PC, but man... VR is truly special. I enjoyed not having to open the inventory so much. This meant staying in the action a lot more often. The worst version for me was the og PC. It crashed way too much. Btw, og regenerators > remake regenerators. I was actually disappointed in how they looked and how they were introduced in the remake.
It's the only version of the original I have never touched. I've dabbled in the others and I wouldn't be surprised if the Quest version was my favourite if I played it
@@RETRObutionofficial Do whatever you can to play it. You won't regret it.
To be honest back in 2019 i never heard of medievil before until i watch Caddius review of medievil 1.
Yeah it's hard to find any real numbers but the series didn't sell too well
@RETRObutionofficial that's a shame because I actually enjoyed the remake so I was hoping for a remake of medievil 2 but seeing it didnt sell well makes me sad to it because this game had so much potential in the 90s but now becoming forgotten which is not cool at all because other games that had some potential that is the same move like sonic or Mario or any other PlayStation franchises but becoming more experimental and I love that part of it and I missed it where games were experimental with new ideas and concepts instead of making video games just as movies like God of war Ragnarok or the last of us
Even though there are some independent video games from people that play video games, sometimes I don't feel like it's not the same to me (I'm sorry if I'm off topic)
Sometimes i get back to watch that review just to hear him say DEMENTED
It's dated as sin, but Resistance FOM is really endearing. Its aesthetics, goofy guns, bonkers plots, and unique setting consistently made me wanna revisut it for nearly 19 years.
There is something there, but there's too much crap covering it lol
@RETRObutionofficial i dunno ifcit was intnetional but the couch co-op mode mitigates a decent amount of crap with combat. E.g. the bullet sponge enemies in the last third of the game
I’ve played epic Mickey multiple times on the WII. I love this game to death. Currently playing the remake only a few hours in. I’d consider this game a good remake. This, RE2 and both Destroy all humans remakes are the best remakes I’ve played.
I'm glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for such a thorough, insightful review! I look forward to watching more of your videos. I'm currently replaying the game on PS2 and you've summed up a lot of the problems that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Coming to Size Matters after beating R&C 1 was kinda rough - even if I do still love the melodramatic story, the creativity put into the environments, and the Ratchet and Clank series overall. I've not engaged with the rest of the R&C fanbase since I, understandably, was introduced to this series at 9 years old (I'm now in my mid twenties). Seeing the other comments here is therefore a little window into the fanbase. The people complaining about your "skill issues" and personally defending the game are hilarious since you can both like something and still acknowledge it's awful from a design standpoint. On the other hand, the people who are still nostalgic and excited for this game are really wholesome. I know I'm just as biased as everyone else because I like the art, music, and characters more than the gameplay. I got to see how my brother and I responded to the game at different ages. That's an interesting angle for game development since I feel like most video games are aimed at adults and don't consider developmental limitations. My brother - who has always been a skilled gamer - could not beat the final boss at 11. I beat the game years later at 16 and now, as I replay it at 24, I can see why clunky controls and low margins for error really incentivize ditching the game. Nevertheless, the innovator in me wants to come up with strategies to get around all of this since I beat the original Legend of Zelda twice and that was punishing, yay :^D
ive tried so many times to get into this franchise. i love hard 2d momentum platformers but i couldnt get into dk... and im 30
I've heard the same thing from a few people. What do you think is the reason?>
@RETRObutionofficial well with tf is was .mostly enemy placement and level design. Game felt too cheap like many deaths weren't my fault. It was more frustrating hard than challenging.. plus the way the characters controlled there was literally no reason to use dk or cranky..dk had always been slow, stiff, heavy, awkward etc..i get he can go faster if you time your rolls but unlike sonic whwre momentum is a reward for playing enoigh to know the levels, since tou canr afford to take hits it feels more like "git gud" mentality. Like te game had arcade mentality
decent video, but you are wearing out the phrase pixel perfect.
DK country is goated. I’m a ‘91 baby. It was one of the first games I ever played ❤️
There's nothing more special than our first gaming memories. Mine was Majora's Mask
That's a unique Trinitron, I don't think I've seen one like that before.
I'm holding it for my friend since I have a bit of extra space. It's so cool, looks amazing and it's in really good condition. The only problem is that it weighs 49kg (so like 110lbs if you're American) and moving it was an absolute pain in the ass lol. Thanks for watching :)
@@RETRObutionofficial Thanks for the conversion lol. I managed to find a 36" Trinitron with it's original stand right before Covid for $50. It weighs an absolute ton lol. I'm pretty sure I messed up my back a little even with some help.
DK1 is good, but DK 2 is where its at. I loved that game. (DK3 doesn't exist )
To act as if it not exists is to imply that it is not worth playing That's a bit harsh to DKC3 while not the best of the bunch (badum tss) it is a quality platformer that was a deserving send off for the series on the SNES. I think I like DKC 3 a bit more than the Wii version of DKC R mostly due to the waggle controls.
You need to play DKC2 and 3, they’re better than the original in my opinion, and Returns too to be honest, only Tropical Freeze is at their level. These games have a certain language, a way they do things that was a lot more common back in the day, once you play enough games of that era it sort of clicks with you, you start predicting what the game is gonna throw at you and thus become way easier.
Yeah I get you on the language of games. Just take a Souls like for example, first playthrough you'll get caught out by enemies hiding behind things, but then you learn to look around every corner. I think this DKC video could've been done a lot better so I'll probably do a part 2 at some point in the future and cover the other games. Thanks for watching :)
I might be the only one but I never thought Donkey Kong country games were hard. I 100%/101%/102%/103%'d every single one minus the speedruns
3d Platformers all the way bro, I just cant get into 2d at least for modern games. I like 2d prior to the GameCube era but modern world, 2.5d is the way to go. Just not at full price that's weird
I have no problem paying full price for a platformer, if it's a great game, it's a great game.
My friend and I beat all 3 original games on the switch together, to say we have a love hate relationship with the series isnt even scratching the surface
I get that, there's a few platformers that I have a love/hate relationship with
“trying” that’s crazy
I really tried
I slightly prefer 2D platformers over 3D... but that's probably only because I'm a Classic Sonic fanboy
What's your favourite Sonic game?
@@RETRObutionofficial Probably Sonic 3&K followed by Sonic 1, then Sonic 2. Yes I know I'm a weirdo lol, but all those games are gems to me
Donkey kong has awesome atmosphere, music and characters. Also they much harder than mario games so this series is for the pro gamers
This is the first vid from your channel ive stumbled upon and its crazy you dont have 1k subs yet, keep up this quality and the consistent uploads and im sure youll blow up
Thanks so much :) I'm so close to 1k so fiungers crossed I'll get there soon
Firstly, I really enjoyed the video. Keep up the good work you've earned a sub from me :D I understand why some may not be too into the DK series comparing it to other traditional platformers, but I think the biggest issue for most is getting used to the weight of DK and definitely that damn mine cart! I think most people find it so much easier sticking with diddy for the majority with his faster and lighter feeling movement. It is definitely a more precise and less forgiving series compared to a mario that said you said you enjoyed the crash games, and I have your DK issue, but with crash :P......so maybe just diffrent strokes?
Yeah I'd say Crash is the DKC of 3D platformers. I actually really dislike Crash 1 but I love the rest of them (even the non-Naughty Dog ones). I even noticed a massive difference in the movement between DKC and DKCR. The first game is way snappier, it's like they added more weight to DK in DKCR
My Irish brother 🫡 The Wii version will always be the best!
donkey is my favorite nintendo charecter i played country ad i use DK in smash and mario what really strikes me is the music donkeykong country but most if not the entire DK series has the best music i fall aslep to it bro
Absolutely amazing music. Who is your favourite side character?
@RETRObutionofficial gotta be king k rool best worst character
Just played through the DK Country Trilogy on NSO myself to get ready for DK Country Returns (have Tropical Freeze on Switch, also had a blast) but in my case to keep myself from going crazy I utilized the rewind feature. This made the experience SO MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE. It can be argued that its not "true to form" or whatever, but its a convenience that lets me better appreciate these older titles. Was glad to see you gave them a try as well!
One day I will force myself to beat one, I have to. But today was not that day. Thanks for watching Bungle :)
Either I'm really lucky or you're really unlucky but my original, 20 year old, very heavily used ps2 controller still works fine today.
Maybe some other people could comment on the state of their PS2 controllers so we could see. I'd wager that I'm the unlucky one lol. Thanks for the comment
This may be stupid but I love this game and its one of my top 3
Nothing stupid about it, it's a great game
Gotta play silent hill next it’s wholesome I swear
I have videos about SH2 PS2 and the remake on the channel
I said it a while back....RE4R just doesn't do it...
I loooove the remake, I prefer it over the original
cry more
The original release on the GC was the best, every single other port was ported from the PS2 version which had cut graphics, cut on screen enemy count, and weapons deal more damage at the max level
Proof?
@@clouds-rb9xt By now pretty much everything is well known You can look for it. Google is your best friend here XD But he's somewhat correct. If I recall correctly, PS3 version does not have the NGC prerendered cutscenes as the horrible PS2 port.
Interesting, I guess the Wii version was my first exposure to the game so I didn't notice it
The Wii version of RE4 is so good. But if you want something similar to it but wanna have Wii style controls. RE4HD PC with a controller that has gyro. Doesn’t matter if it’s a steam controller, Wii U pro controller, switch pro, ps4 or dual sense. Just go onto the steam community presets and find one that works for you
I have played three different versions of RE4 and the Wii version is my favorite.
I used to agree… but the quest VR version has my heart now
I don't own a quest so I haven't been able to try it out. If it's anything like the PSVR2 version of RE4R then I'd totally believe that it's the best version. Thanks for watching
Re4 and remake are 2 diffrent games and are both outstanding
I agree, they do different things and I love both of them
