Great driving and footage. I’m a regular there but depending on the TDO, it can get a little oversubscribed. I’ve done 4 this year with Javelin and the amount of incidents and red flags is quite concerning. I’m back in August but with a different TDO who limit the amount of entries, so fingers crossed I get more track time and less idiots.

I copied this exactly, works a charm, thank you! How do you run permanent power to the camera though? Do you run a USB cable out the 12v round to the camera? I didn’t notice a power in on the media mod, is it the mini usb in? Love your videos sir

Hi …. Really late to the party … I have just bought an R400, and now I’m worrying about noise restrictions on track days …. I’ve bought a baffle device, but still not sure …. What exhaust do you run to beat the noise restrictions ?

Hi not too sure how clued up you are about this but ive done the coding for my F20 M140i and for some reason whenever im starting the car up it says “battery discharge whilst station” is it possible ive got wrong somewhere with the coding? It works perfectly as well

How’s the Caterham wing coming along?

The distance from the vanishing point to the driver does not change based on the speed the driver is travelling at. So, the technique cannot tell you how fast to take a bend. It just tells you to slow down as you approach it and speed up as you leave it.

I was taught something very similar to this about 20 years ago, it was described to me as looking into the furthest corner and you can see the speed in this way. Also it gives you great road position

the ideal speed is the limit of grip

Slow down into a curve/blind area. Speed up coming out of a curve/blind area. One hopes one doesn't need to say "go slow enough to stop if need be."

i think it really sucks that of all the things in this world that are not scientific and predictable enough so as to facilitate its process, driving had to be one of them. people are so unpredictable everywhere, and no one learns in the same way, and we can barely agree on what constitutes the "right" way to drive. it is discouraging

Better still….just do what the signs on the road tell you to do? IE..white lines in the middle of the road, warning signs on poles, arrow warning sign on bends etc etc. so many people ignore these signs or don’t even know what they mean.

You look like you're driving way too fast for country roads. I pity the wildlife, they haven't got a chance.

Since you decided to disable comments on the previous video, I'm writing here. I think I understand, but also I need an animation cause the arrows and lines made in microsoft paint were a tad confusing. Also doesn't the speed depend on how well you car can turn and road surface? Ps Please don't turn off comments just because of some hate, having comments really ads to a video and I'm sure I would've understood it better with help from others.

Can you still get this if you don’t have lane departure?

Hi, first time I'd seen a video of yours, and wanted to query something relating to driving to the vanishing point, but unfortunately couldn't request directly on the video you placed. Being a motorcyclist and car driver, I'm keen to learn, even after 30 years plus of driving. Does the vanishing point technique also include the 2 second rule techniques? To gauge the distance from the bend, or how do you gauge the distance and speed, especially if you are new to driving.. just thought I'd ask. Thanks

I think you doing a good job fir people who do not have great drivingskills! However...Nowadays everything can be a called a "technique" I suppose. In my feeling I just do that automatically and have always done. Never thought about it being a technique or something that other people might not do. As I am already very different from the rest, I am glad I am made aware of one more thing how others look at things. So thank you!

No, the limit point is the clear area, so if there is a vehicle ahead, that becomes your limit point. Develop your own safety assessment and don't rely on what you heard somebody say. Every driver is an idiot, and every journey is a lesson.

This is a good approach but should be coupled with managing your speed to being able to stop in whatever visible space remains, which you were not doing.

First I freaked out because he was driving on the “wrong” side of the road. Second the method is very nicely explained, but my question is why? The turn of the road is in front of you so there are no options to do anything else. It is no secret. But I am only a causal driver, driving to slow probably, so I don’t see the magic. Sorry.

Interesting technique, but I have a question: in all the bends, the limit point will come towards you at any speed, even at very slow speeds, right? This doesn't necessarily mean you are going too fast.

I actually saw that video before and found thast technique a bit confusing. This is so much simpler

Pretty neat. I think I've been doing that naturally without really thinking about it (in both my car and motorcycle)... But it's very interesting to have it explained in detail and to be made consciously aware of it. Well done!

I am a retired precision driver and am a bit dismayed at using just your technique. You cannot judge a curve's safe encountering speed just by seeing how far away it is. What about good traction vs poor traction? What about that barely perceptible dip in the road just as you enter the curve? I caught a tow truck driver (here in Canada) dripping dish soap in the curve near my home. You know what he was waiting for. When I am driving, I have to know where my car's wheels' traction threshold is in my current driving conditions. That changes as it begins to rain. Driving in snow, it changes suddenly when the highway lane is clear but there is a small pile of slush between one lane and the next. The physics will shock you when your tires encounter that small pile of slush. How fast can you change your vector as you drive? How hard can you take a turn? How hard can you brake from x mph to y mph? When braking hard, what does it feel like when the brakes begin to fade due to heat? And what can you do about it should you fall into that mistake? Then, there are thousands of other things you need to take into consideration when traveling faster than you can walk. Traffic to your right? Left? Do you think someone will soon be trying to pass? Is oncoming traffic limiting your fudge factor in the turn? All these are some of the reasons that AI will never be able to out "drive" a seasoned professional. We know too much compared to the AI just looking at things as simplistically as you have just demonstrated.

Great for finding max safe speed to negotiate a bend but if you cant see around bend you must be able to stop within the distance you see to be clear. So you max speed will be governed by this and may well be much slower than just using limit point.

Okay, I watched that. I have no idea what the heck you were on about, so if that is supposed to be simple, I won't bother with the complex version.

Unfortunately, in urban highway driving, 'vanishing point' techniques is often useless, as the blind turns and lack of shoulders, elevation changes and overpasses, make it almost impossible to plan on what's going to happen ahead. The best we can do, is watch traffic several vehicles ahead, and judge what to do by what's happening to them. Motorcycles, always assume that you are invisible, and that if a vehicle near you MIGHT turn into you, that they will. So you will always be out of the way if they do, indeed, turn into where you might be. Another, was to avoid driving in the rain whenever possible, especially driving in the rain AT NIGHT. Because if you go down on the freeway at night, you'd better be up and running 65mph in the right direction or you're going to get run over. Last for bikers, never ride the center of the lane, or in designated truck/bus lanes, because even dripping diesel fuel will make your lane slippery. so much more, but that's enough for here.

I’d ask myself could I brake in time if there was a deer in the bend or a group of cyclists recovering a toppled comrade.
