  • At a recent Knockhill track day there was a beautiful Porsche 911 992 GT3. Ironically it was trailered there and I drove the Caterham from home 🤣 I thought it would be a fun chase for a few laps, especially when it started to pull away from me on the straight after about 90mph…

    How refreshing it is to watch an in-car vid where the driving’s decent! Thanks. 👍🏼

    Always satisfying when you catch / pass much more expensive / capable cars in your caterham.

    Nice driving! I'm impressed at how well the Caterham holds onto the 992 on the straight for. Usually bigger power cars eat Caterhams for breakfast above 80mph.

      super light car with mega close gearing means up to about 80-90 the caterhams are brutally fast.

    I saw an unusual race at Brands Hatch (quite) a few years ago where Lotus 7/early Caterhams, with the consent of the other competitors, were allowed into a sports car race with, MGB's, Healeys, Triumps, Morgans, Jaguars, Porsches and other contemporary sports cars, This was after the Seven was banned from racing with other makes of sports cars and had to go with the current one-make racing series. The proviso was that they had to all start at the back of the grid regardless of their pre-race qualifying times. Within about 5 laps nearly all of the Seven's had got to the front of the pack, and it was very noticeable that the Sevens where cornering far faster and braking much later than the opposition. I don't think that could happen now because most current sportcars handle so much better now, but at the time it was quite a thing to see to see the dominance of Colin Chapman's philosophy of 'to go faster add lightness'.

      😂 By the way it snapped back, I’d proffer he still had PSM on and it caught the mistake. Having had a 911 and driven it with and without PSM on, I’d also say that was a big mistake to get it to act. All supposition of course! But if that was the case, you’re probably 100% right about the soiling 🤣 💩

    Id very much be curious on how bloody quick one of these would be with a small 100hp electric motor added to the rear wheels like the instant and constant torque added would make these cars insanely fast.

  • @rogerking7258
    @rogerking7258 ปีที่แล้ว

    You couldn't get a better illustration of how pointless most modern so-called "sports cars" are. Just strip out the weight, have modest power, and you can eat almost anything else for breakfast. Great driving by the way.

    • @WhiteRoseDrives
      @WhiteRoseDrives  ปีที่แล้ว

      😊 Thank you Roger. I think people have very different reasons for owning and liking the cars they do, it's all subjective, isn't it. However, if one enjoys driving for the act of it, of understanding what a car is telling you, and what you can tell it, then weight is one's enemy. And modern cars are all way too big and way too heavy, which totally destroys that 'conversation' with the car. Having driven all sorts of fast cars myself, I can't find anything to trump a Caterham for the sheer enjoyment one can have 😄Plus as you say, with a moderately powerful Caterham and a few bends, there's little to compete. Spending 150k won't solve the problem of too much weight…

      Seriously ! Caterham r400 quicker than a properly driven gt3, even on a twisty Knockhill ?😂

    • @WhiteRoseDrives
      @WhiteRoseDrives  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mickeymouse7741 R400 401hp/tonne GT3 350hp/tonne. The weight means later braking and faster corning. With a proper pilot (not me 🤣) the R400 will easily outpace a 911 GT3.

      @@WhiteRoseDrives afraid lap times don’t back up your stats.
      Short tracks like Knockhill flatter Caterham’s ( I know I own one) but modern Porsches really are serious in the proper hands.

    • @WhiteRoseDrives
      @WhiteRoseDrives  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used to own a 911, I’m familiar with them 😊 Aerodynamics don’t favour a Cat after about 100mph, but otherwise on a twisty circuit a 2.0L Caterham is going to beat a GT3. Hunt around for Jethro Bovingdon comparing the equivalent Lamborghini vs the 420r (spoiler: Cat wins. Bov is a skilled driver). The weight of modern cars has got silly, and weight is the enemy of handling.
