OMG, I just did the same thing with a Woolfolk sweater that took me 9 months to finish! I wore it once, decided it was too big and tried to shrink it. Turned out the same as yours. Doll size and weighed about 10 pounds! I’ve been too embarrassed to tell anyone I was so silly!

I love watching your podcast and seeing all your amazing knits. However I think I heard one of you say "Sophie's choice" related to picking one of two luxurious yarns. I remember the book and movie with that title related to a very serious choice that no one would want make. Please be mindful of those who would offended by such as off-handed use of that expression.

I love the Belfair sweater. Looks very similar to the Korshavn sweater I knit last year. My favorite sweater ever! Have tons of fun at Rhinebeck. I just came back from Shetland Wool Week and I knew I wouldn't be able to come to Rhinebeck and not buy anything. So I'm going to live vicariously by admiring all the things my friends bring back!

Do you find the lambs pride too itchy? I used it for the carbeth sweater and couldn’t wear it!

Purl soho yarns are definitely not good to spin in the machine they felt. I have tried good wool and linen quill they both felted like that poor Felix that is very sad now

Beautiful knits all around, but, Kim, I had to laugh but also groan with your shrunk sweater!! :) I have some Lettlopi my son brought me from Iceland, but I haven't knit with it because it is rather scratchy. I am envious of you all being so close to RhinebecK!! I'm on the West coast and we just don't have the fiber festivals you have. I did go to Flock the first year, but Seattle is a haul from the Bay Area of CA, as is the southern CA fiber fest. Have fun and share all your adventures on your next podcast!!

Yes I fix things. Lately some of my knits, done in the round, have been too big. So I gritted my teeth, literally, and sewed up each side and under the arm on the sewing machine. Then I cut off the excess seam allowance. So happy.

I felted a test knit sweater using my wool setting and my machine got stuck in the spin setting. I think it was due to being out of balance from the weight of the water in the wool yarn. I never got to wear the sweater. Over $100 dollars worth of yarn. 😢Let me know what you decide to do with your sweater. I don’t have the heart to toss it out.

My washing machine has a wool setting and I use it all the time for my hand knits.

I now take the time to fix the completed knits. In the past, too many were just not worn due to long/short arm or body length. I just wait until I am in the right mood and tackle it. So much happier after the effort!

hello from a new viewer, who actually LIVES in Iceland (although formerly from the US), so glad to hear of Kim's upcoming trip! you were trying to remember the name of Hélène Magnusson who does the knitting-and-hiking trips -- and there are some great yarn shops in Iceland, in addition to the Handknitters Assn. stores in Rvk. if you have any questions a local (-ish -- I don't actually live in the city, but up in the Westfjords) might be able to help with, feel free to send me a note.

I don't know where I've been, but I have never seen two at a time sleeves for a sweater! If you know of a link to a video tutorial on that, please share. Hope you all have a great time at Rhinebeck!

I highly recommend using a Panda spin dryer. (There may be other brands that would work). It just spins ALL the water out of my knits. It takes a few minutes, and drains into a tub or bowl placed under the spout, and my stuff comes out barely damp. I gently lay flat to dry, and in a day they are perfect. Best $ I’ve spent on a laundry aid. I bought the Panda dryer/spinner after I felted a fully mohair long cardigan sweater my late mother had knit - in the same way yours was ruined. It ended up doll sized. - I feel your pain.

Very much enjoying your podcast. Discovered it through Needles at the Ready. Love all the projects. I am knitting a bottom up sweater (Phaedra) at the moment and did a provisional cast on so I can go back at the end to do the hem the correct length. The designer says she did it bottom up for the extra structure it gives with a three needle bind off at the shoulders. I too have ended up with a tiny felted sweater, courtesy of my husband misunderstanding why I had rested it on the outside of the wicker basket and not in the laundry bag. Horrified when I discovered it. There is a possibility he did it on purpose to avoid future laundry duty!

Why can’t you use a provisional cast on for bottom up sweaters? I use one and add the ribbing after the garment has been blocked.

I find revising my knits to be almost as gratifying as winning at yarn chicken. Enjoy Iceland! I was there with my family at the beginning of June. The food is fantastic. I did find the yarn to be a bit overpriced most places. My favourite store was the Handknitters Association, which has a few locations in Reykjavik. But it’s mostly Icelandic yarn there, so it might not fit the bill. I never did find a regular yarn store with all kinds of yarn. I am interested to see if the tourism numbers dwindle at all after so many got to experience the northern lights at home this year. I live in a place where they occur regularly (just a couple of hours north of the US/Canada border), so I always get a bit of a giggle when people travel so far to see them. Canadian tourism advertising really needs to step up the game I think! 😊

I’d turn your Felix sweater into a backpack. One of those sling backpacks and just get a leather handle and attach it. Wouldn’t take much to sew it and make it happen.

I think my friend and I have all the same time slots as you on Friday at all the various events. I promise I won’t stalk you 😆
