I wanted to point out the Dragon in Korean culture was the symbol of kings. It was strictly forbidden for anyone besides the King to wear anything with the symbolism of dragon and they would be executed for treason if they broke it. The dragon in the last video is tied to the painting in the second as it symbolises rise of a king.

It should be mentioned that after that crazy T1 vs JDG teaser, Guma did in fact crush Ruler in a 2v1 (Guma was the 1 lol) and then Faker got his revenge for Ruler's 2017 play against him in a very similar fashion and in the exact same lane lol. Honestly I consider that series to be among the most legendary of Faker's career.

That was the greatest run in the history of league. Not at any moment they were favored to win against anyone except Weibo in the finals. They kept improving game per game until they peaked. They defeated teams that were considered dream teams, no weak points in their lineups and T1 just ran them over again and again. Faker went from injured to being the best midlaner at worlds and Zeus peaked at the finals and absolutely gapped the whole other team. It was such a dream to watch that happen.

Very few players (namely Faker who has been with T1 his entire career) stay with the same team their entire career. Ruler is one of those players who has changed teams a few times. Ruler won 2017 Worlds w/ Samsung Galaxy (LCK - korean team). He then went on to play with various other teams, eventually ending up with JDG (LPL - chinese team) in December of 2022 (after Worlds 2022 ended). JDG faced T1 in the semifinals of Worlds 2022 where they lost 3-1 (the year before this video, T1 eventually going on to lose to DRX in the finals) which is what's being referenced in the video as JDG & T1 once again find themselves matched up in the semifinals of Worlds 2023. So while it is a rematch of JDG vs T1 from the year before, Ruler wasn't with JDG yet in 2022 when they faced them.

is difficult even to people that are used to lol esports so, here is my advice. when u heard something like "we won last year" "since I won in 2017" u dont have to think about the whole team but the player alone. pro player career is very short so they often change teams for better oportunities. for example las time Ruler won worlds was in 2017, since then he was in GenG (korean team often #1 or #2) he went to worlds but didn't win. so in 2023 he left Geng and went to JDG (chinese team, won all except for worlds that year) and they were aiming for the golden road, here is where u are a bit confused with the years, ruler talks about 2017 bcuz that was when he last won worlds, the other members talk about last year bcuz in 2022 they faced T1 aswell (remember in 2022 Ruler was not in JDG yet) so they talk about that year especifically.

T1 from the LCK (the Korean League) played against LNG, JDG and WBG all from the LPL (Chinese League). These are not National Teams - it's more like the Champions League in Soccer, where the best teams from leagues around the World compete to be the best. Koreans play in almost every other league around the world but in the LCK there are just Koreans - that's not a rule just the standard of play is the highest and they don't need imports.

There is 4 major regions LCK (South Korea), LPL (China), LEC (Europe), LCS (North America)… Every region has different teams that compete domestically through the year for a spot to a International Events like MSI (Mid-Seasonal Invitation around April-May) and WORLDS (around October-November). Also the teasers timelines are made to generate narrative or rivalry among the players, for example Faker and Ruler played WORLDS Finals against each other on 2017 and Ruler won…

I love that you react to these, not a lot of people do but they have so much rewatchability!! So I quit league a few years ago because it made my relationship extremely toxic but I have always loved worlds, its one of my favorite things to look forward to each year for like the past 8 years. Also if you havent been bombarded yet by your comments section then you should really check out the youtuber Gbay99 for REALLY high quality league of legends esports storytelling. A lot of the time you have questions because youre going in blind, he presents his videos so even people who dont play league can understand the narratives and he really sheds a spotlight on how deep this league of legends shit gets I mean, here's one of the titles of his videos. Korea typically has 4 teams at Worlds. China also typically has 4 teams. Europe has 3 teams. North America (Canada & USA) used to have 3 teams, but this will change in 2025 with the merging of regions. The remaining teams come from smaller regions like Latin America, Southeast Asia, Oceania, etc. There are three main stages: Play-ins, Swiss, Knockout. Play-ins features 8 teams. In 2023, the top 2 teams of play-ins advance to the Swiss stage. In 2024, this was changed to the top 4 teams. Swiss stage consists of 16 teams. The top 8 teams advance to the Knockout. Knockout is an 8-team, single elimination bracket. In each match, you have to win 3 out of 5 games to advance. The winner of Knockout is crowned World Champion for the year.

MSI is basically spring version of worlds, but much harder to win than worlds since there is a double elimination bracket

LPL = Chinese League LCK = Korean League LEC = European League LAN = Latin America North League LAS = Latin America South League CBLOL = Brazilean League There are some other leagues I dont recall right now but this is a bit of info on the leagues that play at worlds. MSI is Mid-Season Invitational tournament where the winners of the summer split tournament of the major leagues play including a wildcard drawn from an invitational tournament contianing the minor regions, it is like a mini Worlds event, this is why it is always mentioned. The Worlds tournment is structured on 2 Phases and then Quarters, Semis and Finals. Phase 1: Play-In there are teams playing for a spot to play in Phase 2 which is the Group Stage Phase Phase 2: Groups, Teams compete for the first 2 spots within their group pool decided by points that are awarded for winning games, this spots from all 4 groups makes the 8 teams for the Quarter Finals where they go in a bracket style tournament (Quarters, Semis, Finals) all the way up to declaring the World Champion.

Tbh, the documentary "T1 : The journey for glory" made by lol esport is good, but nothing amazing. Its still a good piece, but the documentary made by Phil Choi (and sponsored by RedBull) "T1 rose together" is just on such another level. So the professional scene works like this : There are multiple regions who have their own leagues: the LCK = Korean League, LPL = Chinese League, LEC = European League, LCS = North American League. Multiple teams in these leagues face off against each other through multiple splits (like the Summer Split and the Spring Split), and a regional champion is crowned for each Split. This is why there are multiple teams (like football clubs really) in the same region. At the end of the year, the top 3/top 4 best teams per region go to the Worlds Championship, including other teams from minor regions like Japan, Taiwan, South America etc. who only send 1 team per small region. During the JDG Teaser, 2016 and 2017 was being mentioned because that was the time where Faker and Ruler faced each other in the Grand Finals of in Worlds on both years. Where 2016 Faker and T1 was victorious, and in 2017 Ruler finally overthrew Faker and T1. Then 2022 was mentioned because T1 and JDG (in 2022) faced each other and T1 defeated them in semi finals in Worlds(This was before Ruler joined JDG). In 2023 369 (the Toplaner of JDG) said T1 and JDG were fated to go against each other in the Worlds 2024 Semi-Finals because they wanted revenge from 2022. 2023 Regions (Major Regions only) LCK - Korea - 4 Teams LPL - China - 4 Teams LEC - Europe - I think 2 Teams LCS - USA and Canada - 2 Teams Note: after Worlds 2024, LCS has been renamed to LTA. and new Major Region has been annouced LCP for Asia-Pacific countries. In terms of players going into other teams, it's just like the nba. Players can sign anywhere they want as long as they have no external issues (like visa, etc.) After winning the 2017 worlds championship against Faker, Ruler wasn't able to win again. But he did not stop playing. After 2022 he joined JDG in 2023 and helped the Chinese team win all throughout the year and only lost to that 1 best of 5 game against T1. To your question if teams need to win 3 games: Yes, from quarterfinals onwards, the series becomes a Best of 5 format, which means the first team to win 3 games wins the series. WBG Didn't win in 2022, the finals teaser let it's viewers know that WBG has Champions from previous years in their current roster(2023 roster). TheShy won in 2018 in a different team, and Crisp won in 2019 also in a different team. In terms of the subtitles, each country (or Region) have their own dedicated teams from Riot that streams the tournament in their own language. For example during the 2023 Finals, you can hear in the video "T1: The Journey For Glory" Korean casters casting the tournament which is separate to the English Casters. Korean and China have been dominating the e-sport scenes for the longest, so they have 4 seeds each to send to the World Championship, compared to North America and Europe that usually have 3 each (where usually only 1 team of those six manages to advance to quaterfinals). So we can often see chinese and korean teams playing against each other and advancing through group or swiss stages, and barely even seeing a team from NA o Europe there.

MSI is like a mini worlds of sorts, it's a smaller international tournament that happens usually after the spring split of all the regions. But unlike worlds where the major regions get to send the top 3-4, they get to send the top 2. And winning MSI guarantees automatically qualifies you for worlds as long as you make playoffs in the summer split, and gives your region an extra team seeding for worlds.
