Also, I was like, I'll watch your reactions to the first 4 episodes... then ended up binging the rest. I love how genuine your laughs are, and how you were honest about not being sure about the show initially. I had a similar experience, it's a slow burn, and a lot slower paced than most things I watch, but I grew to love it, and the slow pace even had me watching the OP and ED every episode instead of skipping like I normally do.

@@YayReacts I think the hype for this show is partly because it's so different from most shows, with how it handles the passage of time, and also the animation quality is really high. It's more in how the story is told rather than the story itself. Like if they took the same story and told it linearly it wouldn't be nearly as interesting as how they're doing it with parallel flashbacks and telling effectively 2 stories at the same time but weaving it together in a cohesive way, how the past influences the present, and how the present influences the way that that Frieren see and remembers the past. I was initially turned off at how blatant the fantasy tropes were, like everyone is their specific class, but as I saw the show had depth in other ways I appreciated the simplicity and leaning heavily on tropes to anchor viewers (at least those familiar with the tropes). It's kinda making the point that it's not really about the overarching story, but about the characters and their interactions, it's about the journey, not the destination, and not only telling the viewer that, but also actively demonstrating it through how the narrative unfolds. I mean there's multiple episodes about gift shopping, and they made it work without feeling like it's just a rehash, but actually something that enhances the story.
