TJM (The Jag Man) Down Under
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 พ.ย. 2012
If your smashed up, bashed up, broken down or just lonely, who ya gunna call, The Jag Man!
I'm no mechanic but would consider myself as DIY backyard enthusiast.
I know little about everything but not a lot about anything so dont do what I do unless you are an idiot! I have a passion for old Jaguars from Series 1 XJ's right through to X350's and always have Jaguars in my garages. My roll in this channel is to rescue old Jags before they end up in the scrap yard and get them back on the road again for someone else to cherish our motoring history. Enjoy!

1977 Jaguar XJ6,Series 2 EP6 Saved from the wreckers update! Test Drive!
I don't know why a have a fond attachment to this car? Is it because wifey called it a heap of sh*t.
Or is it that I just love a working series 2, especially in Signal Red!

Haven't times changed with the market! The last time I was considering buying an XK8, the price $20k and I thought that was cheap! The one before that was $56k! The catch is there is a hell of a lot wrong with her, it still may not be value!

I really only bought this car for the large number of parts the owner had purchased to eventually restore it, which never happened! So what does a 51 year old Jaguar that has sat outside for 17 years front up like? Let's try to start it! #barnfind #jaguarxj #restoration #classiccar #diy #jaguarxk

Hi Brett just wanted to Wish You ans Wifey A Very Happy Christmas And A Happy New Year with lots of Jag content our very best regards Andy & Sue Allen.
Hey ... brett... any recommendations for rust proofing...is there anything you do to prevent rust ...once you get a keeper...
Heaps of different products out there Are you talking about undercarriage or panels or both?
Have owned many XJ6 jaguars 3 4 door saloons and an XJC COUPE manual with overdrive a V12 XJS and my favourite my 1964 mark 2 2.4 automatic that I bought in 1977 bonnie Scotland 🏴
You've a big advantage in Oz over me in the UK, no bloody bodywork rust. The front doors on mine rotted out ages ago. Not to mention the rest. I did do the rear subframe mounts a while back they were comparatively easy compared with the front suspension ( I'm still on that) because the weather is diabolical here in December. Keeping making the vids.
Need a follow up on this one...
Coming soon!
@@tjmthejagmandownunder bought one today... XJ40 92 Model - not a spec of rust.. .. pitty your so far away Im in Brissy...
looking at one now...not running thing its the amplifier under the coil. Rest of the car is like new... see how we go... loving your youtube channel...been here for days now...more XJ40 videos?
Glad you’re enjoying the channel, mate. Stay tuned more coming up
@@tjmthejagmandownunder bought it....
Some cars just get under your skin. She want's to keep going !
Can't think of a better looking 4 door car.
Go video on fuel sender etc.
Champion
One nice car thanks for sharing
Appreciate the comment!
What great old Jag. Nice to see her running so well. Well done
There's a pretty nice 1987 S3 near me that is for sale. I'm seriously considering buying it.,
Do it!
Enjoy your practical approach, no doubt fettling old Jaguars keeps you away from the pub. Mine is a 89 daimler 4.0L most reliable i have owned and definitely underrated (xj40) however i still rate the series 3 has a more refined car. Enjoy Christmas with your family. Mike from W.A
Thanks, Mike, I’ll be enjoying a few quiet bevies over the Christmas break for sure!
NIce resurrection, love the wry smile when you head out of the driveway. NIce job Brett.
Still beautiful even with the filler. Much better than those chrome spats. Loads of character! Thanks for saving her
I agree! Thank you
Series 3 V12 on the grass looks great👌
Because of the upholstery I suspect this car is NZ assembled
That might explain the colour... for me mid-70s Signal Red is more of an an XJ-S colour. I think the appeal of this car is that the original owner was clearly very fond of it too, and it seems to want to be fixed and running again.
It's an Aussie car, but the seats have been recovered at some stage
Great to have this update. Really enjoy your videos.
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it.
Brett . I didn't think cars from down under suffered with rust . And KPH ? I also thought you were MPH in Australia . Thanks
Rust issues are not nearly severe here because we do not have salt on the roads, but remember, it is a Jaguar built in the bad days that had zero rust protection when new. We have been KPH since circa 73!
Them old jags are the best driving cars about… far better than any modern crap. I’ve a series 2 triple Su and she goes like a scalded cat. The signal red is nice colour. In my opinion she would look far better with original chrome wheels and trim
Sure! when I can afford new tyres for them
occasianaly a car touches your heart for no reason Brett and I think that's the case with this old girl she will look smart when you do the paint so I look forwarded to the next part best regards Andy Allen
I think that is the one that wife called a sh*tbox 😅
That's maybe why I like her so much, the car that is!
You're doing Gods work saving that old lady 😊
It seemed that your wife was lurking behind you in the doorway during the outro, were you in trouble or did she just want a quiet word about your Jag collection?
That's really quite funny as I didn't notice her until editing the video
It looks so nice!
A good short video is better than no video cheers 👍
Appreciate that, cheers!
I'm impressed with the work you've done on this old beauty to get her back on the road, and I feel the same way that you do about the car, since my first jag was signal red, albeit a Series 3. Here's wishing you a happy and enjoyable Xmas.
Well said!
Was going to try and post some pics of a 1973 series 1 retrieved from a shed in Leonora WA - mint perfect unrestored interior, no rust ever etc etc $1,500 - but the mechanicals were a disaster!!! Love your vids by the way :)

I worked at a Jag/Aston Martin dealership years ago. Even though the Aston was more exclusive, I always liked the XK8 more. Looking forward to seeing this one fixed up.
You’ve got good taste!
Run in the opposite direction
Nah, mate, she's a beauty. Right up my alley!😁
@tjmthejagmandownunder worth 400 for parts
Lovely motor twin and single headlights versions not sure bout that steering wheel though
Me neither, but better than the original, though
Made me all misty eyed…dead ringer for my old V12 S3. Blew a water hose under the right hand exhaust manifold and overheated. Replaces hose and gave it a crack and it was fine. These ain’t as fragile as the 6 I reckon. Only downer was the gearbox…really needed a 4 or 5sp auto
Agree maybe change the gearbox one day!
That noise could even be the Cat Converter's innerds, which is how they sound, once shaken loose.
I should know more next week
Greetings from Cairns mate, .. Well done I reckon and one heck of a lucky find all ‘round. Can’t wait to see how it all works out for you!
Thanks for the support, mate! Cairns is a pretty sweet place.
Im enjoying the entertainment✌
Thanks Jim!
Does it have a rainbow flag on the door too?
??
Not going to lie the xk8 rag top is alright. Though I much prefer to tin top. But omg your XJ is gorgeous
Me too! Beggers couldn't be choosers in this case though
I hope the limp mode is just it needs a gearbox service 🤞
Me too!
At least it was a good "aww shit"
🤣
Once this cat is up and going probably ya missis will claim it 4 herself , be a nice ride i recon
CREATE EXUBERANT
Good on you, absolute bargain so it seems.
Yep, hopefully, it stays a bargain!
If it is a loose flex plate check the crankshaft bolt holes and make sure that they are not elongated! Maybe a replacement crankshaft if that’s the case 😮
Thanks for the tip!
A really nice looking Jag. Will look forward to your next video.
A lovely little beauty.
...no mention of the plastic tensioner on that V8?...great channel...saludos from México...
I'll be sure to cover that in the next video!
Really looking forward to watching your progress on this one, it would be great to see it all sorted.
You and me both!
Purrrfect😊
Glutton for money pit punishment!
Hope not!
