WOW! Bring back memories for me. My very first Jag was a 1973, XJ6 4.2 SWB in lanvender blue and it was fitted with a full length Webasto manual sliding roof. I found a zoo ticket under the backseat (removed to dry out a deep puddle of water that leaked in through the rear window seal) and it was dated in September 1973 for entry to Whipsnade Zoo in Hertfordshire, England. The car was quite rotten and unreliable but I eventually got it sorted and sold it on. What a collosal mistake that was because it was rare in that colour, wheelbase and an early example. I would buy that car in flash!
In the early 1990s my husband took me to Ian Cummins to view a XJ6 S1 MOD he wanted to buy. Next to the S1 was an immaculate original S2 SWB. As the S1 needed some minor work & my husband had plenty of work to do on our other cars & motorcycles I insisted we buy the S2. The S2 was Turquoise with Cinnamon trim. Like your car, there was no air-con or electric windows. We only sold the car a couple of years ago as we needed air-con as we got older. My husband recently bumped into the new owner who loves the car & has since fitted after market air-con. The S2 get a bad rap as being unreliable & having poor finish. Our car had some panel gaps on the boot that were not exactly right but the car never let us down & did many interstate trips towing our race bikes to meetings.
Great to see you back! Pleased you are not letting fiscal responsibility get in the way of making great videos of beautiful cars, she is really nice. Thanks for the video!
Such a lovely example… arguably the best colour for an SII and an SWB as well ! It really deserves to be driven and shown off. It’s funny you say the SWB cars look more balanced when the rear doors are shorter than the fronts… in theory the LWB later cars should look better but it wasn’t till the Pininfarina SIII arrived that everything finally clicked !
Lovely car. They had quite a range of colors/interiors in the 70’s. We had a few when I was young. The most 70’s tastic was a ‘74 XJ12L painted Sand Green with either Cinnamon or Biscuit interior …can’t remember which. It is interesting to see ROW Jags with crank windows, painted wheels, no a/c, sometimes cloth interior. USA spec cars, at least by the time the series 2 came about, were always fully decked out. I just took a look at the dealer brochure I have from 1978. It lists options for both the 6L and 12L: none
That S2 is a beauty , well sorted to and very rare being SWB, i had a dark blue 4.2 swb man/od back in the 90's with a webasto sunroof , i relunctly sold it in 2000 when the block cracked , i should of kept that 1
She looks beautiful Brett. Friend here in Tassie had a lavender one. He sold it and not sure where it ended up. Didn’t like the colour at the time but it’s one of those colours that now looks trendy and it’s grown on me. Welcome back after your big adventure. .
Great car Brett, looks beautiful and have to agree about the proportions of the SWB. I have the last Series 2 SWB assembled here in NZ, April 75. Can't see myself ever selling, these are keepers. Wifey will love it!
Brett fabulas holiday and as for the Jag who could blame you for buying it such a beauty and perfect to take to car show I think wifey will love when she see's it best regards Andy Allen.
Had an early-74 XJ6, late -73 build. SWB, BRG with tan interior. Lhd & _with_ power Windows! Even had the XJ12 chrome wheels w/ hubcaps as a bonus. Probably one of the last built before BL took over and ruined quality for some years. Unrestored runner, dailied this for some years, like 2007 to 2012. Unfortunately had to part with it for a number of practical reasons. Coolest ride I've ever had. Biggest regret of all sales 😢 Miss it badly, still shows in my dreams at times... 🌟 Congrats to bagging a fresh specimen 🎉
Nice car Brett but some unfortunate rust areas which is a shame with such a beautiful paint job. Wifey will only see the beauty in this one so you’re in the clear.
Amazing ! I was just thinking about S2 short wheelbase manual with o/drive as a retirement present to myself. a rare one ? Not sure. As you looked deeper and deeper into her blue ( lavender ) eyes I started to say to myself ...marry her ! Outstanding condition. Turn key ! Go !
Nice to see you again, Brett. I did wonder where you'd gone - orff on yer 'olidays, eh? Great pics of that. Anyhow, you're back with a bang! What an absolute beaut that lavender Series 2 is. Very glad you bought it. Here in the UK I think you'd belooking at £12k easily for such a well restored example. Wonder what you had to fork out. Look forward to seeing more of the lavender queen. Lavinia?
Dad had a 74 brg swb manual o/d. No air con manual windows. Drove it a few times on my L plates. I used to see how fast I could go before dad would notice. Almost 100mph before he noticed haha.
Nice to have you back after your bikers trip. This one is a beauty, half your luck. I can only buy over-priced wrecks that need years of work. Currently I'm fitting a new steering rack and the pump to my '73 S1 and changed all the front bushes. £1500 in parts and my own labour. One lower pivot bolt was seized in but I kept at it for 3 weeks and got it to shift with a home made press. And used my secret formula release oil. LOL acetone/tranny fluid mix. Can't wait for the next one Brett. All the best, Geoff Fae Scotland.
Well no, you don't neeeeeed this car. And worse you'll be bored with nothing more to do on it. Except the rubber seals in the fuel caps. And except other little niggles you're bound to find. And except with a vehicle of this age, there's always more you COULD do. So, OK, you won't be bored. Thanks for posting. It's not just the cars that are aging. With an extended pause, there's a part of me that wonders, is he still OK? I love your videos, especially putting to right what has gone wrong. Best wishes to you and yours.
Sounds like poorly adjusted top timing chain. That is a pommie car - no A/C and MPH speedo, which has been covered over with a cheap stencil. Windscreen wiper arms , RH arm fitted where left should be and visa versa. No engine bay cross braces fitted. Pretty good otherwise, but with those detail items wrong, who knows what else lies, or is hidden, beneath. That said, it will be one of the best surviving examples of a great car.
Thanks for the detailed observations. You could not hear any chain noise when I took the video, but you can certainly hear it now.. It’s AU delivered according to the books, I'll have to double check the numbers! I must ask him about the cross brace. The early picture shows half a one!

This one is an absolutely beautiful car.
What a little beauty! Wouldn't mind that myself 🥰
Greetings from New Zealand, we used to build these cars here back in the day and still many survive.
Yes, I know and also in South Africa, but not here!
Love it! Great to see some vids coming through. Missed them!
Great car Brett, looks beautiful and have to agree about the proportions of the SWB. I have the last Series 2 SWB assembled here in NZ, April 75. Can't see myself ever selling, these are keepers. Wifey will love it!
Congratulations, what a beautiful find!
Good on ya Brett, it's worth every penny.
SWB was the basis for the XJC coupe - nice!
Nice one....difficult to say no to that beauty....wonderful example..deffo a keeper ❤
A nice addition to the fleet for use in dry weather
Brett fabulas holiday and as for the Jag who could blame you for buying it such a beauty and perfect to take to car show I think wifey will love when she see's it best regards Andy Allen.
Lovely car Brett.. Love the colour.
Looks like a ripper! Well done Brett!

She is a beauty! That color! Gorgeous. Love your videos: always upsets the wife as I want to go buy an old Jag afterward 😂
🤣

I have afull manual conversion sitting under the house. Know you have got me thinking!👌
@tjmthejagmandownunder maybe add another carburettor and some tame extractors in addition to the manual conversion ?
Nice to see you again, Brett. I did wonder where you'd gone - orff on yer 'olidays, eh? Great pics of that. Anyhow, you're back with a bang! What an absolute beaut that lavender Series 2 is. There's a hint early in the video of the price!
@@tjmthejagmandownunder: Got it! Can't believe it. By UK standards he's almost giving it away. Glad you got an absolute bargain there.
An absolute ripper..Congrats 🎉
Dad had a 74 brg swb manual o/d. No air con manual windows. Drove it a few times on my L plates. I used to see how fast I could go before dad would notice. Almost 100mph before he noticed haha.
This one looks really nice! Just wondering why someone would do such an expensive restoration and sell it this price afterward?
He had health problems! It was supposed to be a keeper
Defo a nice job and a great buy. I would!
Nice old girl, has kept her dignity over the years😂
Welcome back TJM
That is a nice car.

I love the acetone transmission fluid bit!
Good to hear from. You Geoff
Just had a couple of weeks in Scotland. What a beautiful part of the world!
Oh man thats a very tidy series 2 luv it , what a find an absolute glamour
SWB series 2 Jag ,perfect to restore and drive
Extra, you will be enjoying the The jag long after you recover from the beating you get. All is good
lol
I'd buy it in a heartbeat
An absolute stunner... how much did this beauty set you back?
Good decision. Sure beats late at night after a couple bottles of wine sight unseen onFB mktplce.
If you don't buy it I will! Looks like some one has put a lot $ and love into this Jag.
Lovely car, just needs the coach line.
I'm thinking the same

Really appreciated Leon!
Well, thats one nice little Jag. Sorry big Jag 😊
Buy🍀
Usually, if something is ridiculously cheap it comes with a catch...
Lets see next week! I do feel a bit guilty though!
Is it just the camera, or my eyes, but the paint on the "wings" appears to be a shade lighter than the doors.
Correct!! It will need painting
The engine compartment looks amazing
Are the lower rear panels still in primer?
No, but there is a colour difference where he welded a patch. I'll take her to my guy to blend the paint
No rust hmm theres a rust hole in the rear left hand rear guard underneath 🤔 but a beautiful car tho 🍻
Yes, I saw that in the video
Will have a closer look when I pick her up. Looks like a little surface rust, not too worried!
How much did you tell the wife you paid?
She controls the bank account! 😁
Sounds like poorly adjusted top timing chain.

Nonsense.
