Many years ago my husband took me to look at a XJ6 S1 manual O/D that he intended buying. Sitting beside the S1 was an immaculate, original condition S2 SWB auto in Turquoise with Cinnamon leather. We both prefer manuals but ended up buying the S2. Despite the poor reputation S2s have for reliability, that S2 was a delight to drive & completely reliable. We did many enjoyable interstate runs with the S2 pulling the trailer with our race bikes. We sold the S2 a year or so ago to finance the purchase of a XKR & X300. We recently met the new owners & they love the S2. We still believe the SWB S2 is the best looking XJ sedan.
I personally prefer to look of the front of the S2 but that is just my preference. I love the toggle switches lined up on the dash I the S1 better though. Both are quite gorgeous though.
I love them old jags coming down the rd you see and know its a beautiful stylish jag , these days if you didnt see that perfectic badge in the grill you'll think its a Chinese or Korean car 😂 lost the unique styling and sole 😢
You've got the patience of a saint. I'm an aging 90s straight 6 Jag owner of many. I had a couple of series 2's in my youth. Such lovely cars. I agree re the LED lights in the yellow car. I'm a traditionalist. They are already too beautiful to mess with.
Enjoyed the episode. My Dad had his first Jag a XJ6 4.2 Series 2 in 1980 and then a series 3 again 4.2. followed by a couple of XJ40s I've loved Jags ever since and now I'm thinking I might look for a series 1 or 2 as a future project to go with my XK 😊
I love these old series Jags. My favourite is the series one. I had one in the 70's and I loved the traditioal dashboard and was very diaspointed when they changed it for the series 2.
Great job Brett...getting a lovely 4.2 engine back to life . Nothing beats these mechanical carburettor engine. The fuel tanks, hideously expensive post covid if buying new, are always a problem . Best to take a 2 liter container , hung off the bonnet when opened, tubed into the carburettors directly ie bypassing the fuel tanks altogether , to get clean fuel into the carbs. A gravity fed drip like this is plenty for the carbs to run as the system is All low pressure. All of offcourse to see the engine run temporarily withoit gunking up cleaned carbs.
hi Peter yes i was going to do that but ill get fuel from the tanks, throw a couple of filters in there. there is not much shit in the left tank, should be good. thanks for your support
Well done sounds great. By the way I bought the battery charger and the wiring diagram book. The book is fantastic. Thank you for the recommendation. I'm working on a series 3 xj6.
Those carbs look to me like they're off an earlier model (no AED either). Just a thought mate. Also you might get better compression figures once the motor has warmed up. Also, open the carb butterflies when doing the check. Great video, always look forward to your work. Pete in Canberra.

It's nice to have a few female viewers
I have a S1, but agree the S2 SWB is a great looking car.
Love the S1 and S2 never so keen on the S3 nail breaking door handles and rubber bumpers

I like most classic cars! The jag is no exception. Glad to see you’re getting it going again instead of going to the wreckers!
Beauty.
Great update today, amazing how smoothe it ran . Look forward to the next instalment.

The smile of satisfaction when that engine started. Well done mate

You might have a bargain there Brett. Looking positive. You really know these cars. Top job.
Thanks Pete

Great work Brett. I admire your skills and wish I had that much knowledge and mechanical aptitude. Regards Edward
I think it wants to run again ! Hopefully a simple, rewarding refresh !
Keep the videos coming, Brett. I do enjoy them :)

That's great. John will pass that on to Topdon. I love Bradley's book too
You have done your bit for the environment. Well done 😂

Yes, they are HD8's from a series 1. Would have Strombergs originally. Watch episode 1
Comp test the last couple of cylinders with a fresh battery or jump leads, surprisingly I have seen that make a big difference.
Will do
I have an XJ-S and long for an S2 XJ to park next to it.
Hello 👋 brett it was nice when you got it started sounds good 👍.
Thanks David
🎵on the road again🎶🎵🎼
Hey there, Brett.
You got your cyclinders mixed up. Cyc 1 is at the bulkhead and cyc 6 is at the front of the engine
Yes, you are correct, especially if I was timing it!😁
@@tjmthejagmandownunder great job tho. Best driving car ever made in my opinion
Its £500 for two new tanks i would just replace and have done with it .
If it was a full resto sure, but it's a lot of work to replace the tanks. It won't be necessary and trying to save money. 😁
She is right! Lol
😔
Ya wife was right, all jags are a waste of car space.
Gee thanks!
Don't bother to try and give any reasons for that stupid comment, will you. It might tax your apology for a brain too much.
