Joe's Country Garden
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 ธ.ค. 2023
My name is Joe Swift and I am a professional garden designer. I have just moved from a terraced house in Hackney in London to a house and garden in Dorset and I love it here. I've got big plans for my garden and armed with a selfie stick and a drone I'd like to take you along on the journey, so I am going to post updates here of what I am up to. You can hear my plans, pick up gardening tips and see me get stuck in. Sorry if I don't reply to your questions and comments - there's lots to do here, but I hope you find these videos useful nonetheless. Joe
Joe's Country Garden visits James Alexander Sinclair
I've been to visit James Alexander Sinclair - he’s a bit posh but great friend and fine garden designer. He moved to his garden nine or ten years ago, so it's an opportunity for me to get ideas and see where I could be in a few years' time. James is a plant addict, his garden is full of unusual and really interesting specimens, most of which he can remember the names of. We go on a leisurely tour of his garden while James explains his method, rationale and love of plants. It's a beautiful garden, full of wildlife and packed with interesting ideas. I hope you enjoy this tour as much as I did!

Summer Update - Self Heal in the Meadow Joe's Country Garden
มุมมอง 9K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
We've had some dry weather over the past few days and I've taken the chance to enjoy the garden between various trips around the country. Out in the meadow area, there are some gorgeous swathes of self-heal, or Prunella vulgaris. Call it a weed if you like, I love it and so do the bees. This is just a short video and also one of thanks, as I now have 10 thousand subscribers, thanks to everyone ...
Roses and Connecting the Woodland to the Meadow. Joe's Country Garden June 2024
มุมมอง 12K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's been a rose-tastic June and I've been loving it. There are loads of gorgeous roses all blooming in the garden and I've been taking pics and will try and work out what they are. Meanwhile, the deer has been "helpfully" pruning off the lower branches. It can't get enough of the roses! I don't mind, and until I have veggies in, it's a garden to share with everyone. There's been a robin pickin...
Mid June catch up and I'm in the News - Joe's Country Garden 2024
มุมมอง 14K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm home for a few days in between trips away, so here is a catch up of the garden in June. The plants are loving the wet, although it could be warmer. Lots of orchids are growing in the woodland and the paths I've mown in the grass are becoming more clearly defined. Most important of all, there's been good progress on the hard landscaping - so good, in fact, that it's been in the papers.
Path update June 2024 Joes Country Garden
มุมมอง 15K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
After a brilliant week at Chelsea, it was great to come home to my garden. Lots of new plants coming through and lots of progress on the landscaping. The woodland is blooming and I'm making steps to change the alignment of the garden so that it runs parallel to the landscape beyond. That means losing the railway sleepers so that the woodland blends with the meadow, and also mowing lateral pathw...
Landscaping Update Before Chelsea - Drainage and Paving at Joe's Country Garden May 2024.
มุมมอง 12K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's the flower show season and I have been away at the Malvern Flower Show and am about to be away for Chelsea. It means I've come home to see great progress from Craig and Justin who have been working hard on the landscaping in the garden. The drainage is sorted and the paving for the paths is going down. So exciting! Anyway, I've made them a coffee or two and while I am here I am getting cre...
Wet wet wet rain stops play. Joe's Country Garden May 2024
มุมมอง 6K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
It has been really wet, so although we made a big start on the landscaping, we've had to stop. Actually, it's been really useful for us to see where we have real drainage issues that we can put right as we do the hard landscaping.
Getting started on the landscaping. Joe's Country Garden May 2024
มุมมอง 14K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
We've got really stuck in this week on the landscaping. With the help of a decent size digger and the expert skills of Craig and Justin who are great landscapers, we've taken up the paving and started excavating areas of the garden for the new path to the front door and my new seating area. Big changes and tough decisions made, but it is really exciting to have made a proper start. Let's just h...
Glorious Bluebell Wood Joe's Country Garden April 2024
มุมมอง 10K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've had a really busy week so it's been really special to be able to come home to my new garden and admire the gorgeous iridescent bluebells that are blooming in the woodland. There are camassias too, not to mention the first signs of some wild orchids. It's such a joy to have a garden like this and the perfect antidote to some of the more hectic aspects of my life.
Lifting and Dividing Perennials Joes Country Garden April 2024
มุมมอง 16K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Divide and conquer. I've been digging up and dividing perennials where the hard landscape is being changed. This is the perfect time to do this job and can save you a lot of money, creating plants for free (well with a bit of work). In this video I take a tour of the garden and make sure there is a bit less of me and bit more of the plants in shot. I'm lifting and dividing some irises and heeli...
Latest update and up the garden path Joe's Country Garden March 2024
มุมมอง 13K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
A latest update on the garden - lots is happening now its Spring. I've been marking out the new main path to the house today and I dug out the drone to show you the markings. This video explains why I am changing the path and what I am thinking about as I lay out the new version.
Time for the archway to go. Joe's Country Garden March 2024.
มุมมอง 12K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've complained about the archway in the garden for months now and finally I can take it out. I do like the basic design of how it was built but in this video I explain why it's a mistake design-wise. The archway is going to a new home and I am going to keep the plants growing up it by digging them out and heeling them in. You can see how it's all done here. Sincere apologies for the sound - I ...
Reinvigorating the climbing rose Joe's Country Garden March 2024
มุมมอง 10K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
There's a beautiful pink rose climbing up the house but it needs some remedial action. This is partly because the scaffolders are about to set up, but also because this is an ancient rose with a massive stem but also some really vigorous younger stems. I'm going to cut away the old stem and train the newer shoots up the wall and around the window. It sounds drastic but a rose as old as this is ...
Magnolia got hit by the frost. Joes Country Garden March 2024
มุมมอง 5K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
I was so excited to see the magnolia about to burst into flower, but sadly the frost got to it just the next day. That's gardening for you.
Early March walkabout Joes Country Garden
มุมมอง 11K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
The tree surgeons have been really busy in the garden and now things are really opening up. As well as bringing new views into play, all this work has really changed the flow of the garden from the broken up areas and lines that ran from the house to the boundary to a more lateral flow that is in harmony with the hills of the landscape beyond. Apologies for the noise - not just the chipper and ...

Happy New gardening Year! Are you going to post any more videos of your garden? Love to see how it is shaping up. Thanks!
On tenterhooks here Joe, waiting for an update on your year's progress.
What a fun video! I imagine you have been busy with all the things. Hoping you'll be able to post more of your garden videos when you're able: )
When the planting is in and the edges softened and a bit of ageing on the path that is going to look magnificent 👏
Bloody brilliant, Joe... Can't get enough of you two. My wife came across your channel the other day, and we've been binge watching all the videos about your new garden. I hope that all is well, and maybe you can come back with more videos... Cheers!
Such a pity this channel seems to have closed down - was really enjoying seeing how Joe was progressing with his new garden. Hope nothing untoward has happened.
Like everyone else, my wife and I are hoping you suddenly appear again with an update on your gardening exploits. Thank you.

Are we getting an end of year update Joe ?
It is native here in America too, and was used by the Cherokee and other tribes for its medicinal properties. A real keeper and pretty too!
Lovely 💝

Has summer's bounty and jobs for clients kept you too busy to post videos of your own garden's progress? The winter through spring and early summer videos had me hooked to the channel. I miss them (I bet others do as well) and look forward to more in the future. Cheers!

Oh Joe, I love all the delight and fun you bring in your videos. I learn so much about gardening while I'm laughing and smiling. I find I'm more open to possibility of all things living. So thank you from a gardener in the USA.

Is ‘Charlie’ Charles Quest Ritson?
Here I am watching Joe Swift on TH-cam while his Dad is on the tv in the background in Keeping Up Appearences😊
I'm not a garden lover, I'm here for the old bloke! :)))
How’s the laid hedge doing… cheers Dorset Hedgelayer
I wonder if Monty is watching this as well. 🐸🦎🌳
Absolutely brilliant enjoyed this so much.. Gorgeous garden love the way James is about those pesky weeds ❤
The tree with red petioles around 31:00 is probably Tetracentron sinense var. himalense.
Very entertaining video. Thanks to both of you. What a lovely garden! We have newts too.
great tour. thanks for the video. Enjoyed in the ac on a hot day in USA.
wonderful friends cheers
This was great fun, thank you Joe and James. Beautiful garden.
Speaking of quercus and prunus....have any list been made of native trees/shrubs with the highest insect values? Dr. Tallamy in the US/Can is among the leaders in assessing keystone values.
No mow May is a waste of time. All the good things that happen such as the insects laying eggs ets, is destroyed in June. You may as well not bother. The best thing you can do is have a designated area to leave if possible. You can make it look tidy by simply having a neat path through it.
Brilliant, bit like a comedy due, james certainly made for TV
Love the South Carolina mention! Y’all are so fun to watch together. James’ garden is lovely. ❤😊
An absolute joy to watch this episode Joe. The bromance vibe is a 10 and the video just flows and flows with humor delight! I appreciated this.
It's so exciting watching you reclaim/document your land, Joe!
