- I'm home for a few days in between trips away, so here is a catch up of the garden in June. The plants are loving the wet, although it could be warmer. Lots of orchids are growing in the woodland and the paths I've mown in the grass are becoming more clearly defined. Most important of all, there's been good progress on the hard landscaping - so good, in fact, that it's been in the papers.
Using what you've got, planting for the pollinators, doing what you like, showing off your acting skills. I love it!
It’s not crazy paving, it’s considered paving. I love it!
Oh Joe you make me laugh out loud so much! Of course the hard landscaping is completely and utterly stunning! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love every bit of the work that has been done, especially the paving! It will be stunning once the plantings are put in to frame that lovely ramble through the garden. ❤️😊
It’s going to look mint when finished 👌👌👌👌
Hey Joe, I’m laughing out loud 🤣. People are daft ! I love what you’re doing.
HAHAHAHA! Excellent video. You make me laugh and I love it. Your paths are beautiful, your garden is beautiful and your attitude is great. Thank you for the update.
They say any news is good news, so hopefully it’ll result in you having more followers! Personally I love the mix of regular and irregular shapes.
Orchid meadow absolutely great!!
What a great big garden space to have!
Amazing surroundings and views!
Defo have inbuilt large stone as seating bench in the elliptical wall. Just lovely !!
Keep the videos coming we love ‘em.
I love your path 🎉is great , excited to see how the planting will look and the wall😊
The paving is awesome 🤩
My word Craig is a master of stonework
Reusing stone from your own site, what’s not to love about that it looks fantastic
I think the path is amazing Joe. Its the perfect balance of natural and formal. Once the plants are softening the edges it will look even better. Looking forward to seeing it finished. Some folks just have no vision- good job you have a good sense of humour! 😂
Its obvious how you are enjoying designing your new land (a bit different to small plot in London!😂) Thanks for allowing us to come along with you. I look forward to the next installment. 👍🌱🌱🌱
I really hope you do make crazy paving trendy again because I’ve got a seventies house complete with original crazy paving patio and path and it’s not often I can say I’m en vogue 😂😂 I’m loving watching the development of your garden
Hi Joe you are so right it’s your garden & you can do what you like! they are jealous they haven’t got your fantastic garden ! I love what you are doing lv Irene 😘 xx
Can we get some Joe’s country garden asmr? I.e. A quiet walk around, as we would our own gardens??
That blackbird in the background was stunning.
Hilarious! Loving it all 😊
Crazy Joe and his CRAZY PAVING… I LOVE HIM♥️♥️♥️
Brilliant paving! How I envy you your landscaper!
That’s the joy of having a garden. You can make the way that makes you happy.
Yeah!! Daily bloody Mail what do they know. Progress looking good Joe!
I absolutely love all your hard landscaping. It looks amazing! We are reusing all the stone that was in our garden too, and have so far built a circular patio out of crazy paving. I love the contrast between your crazy paving and the pavers and that it is irregular. Looking forward to following you on your journey and laughing at you tripping up more often! 😜😂
Nothing crazy about your paving. It's great. It's whimsical.
Team paving geek 🤓 here - I'm loving the updates & very invested to see progress with the oval, please consider Cannomois virgata as a backdrop behind I think that would look incredible with the stone colour, also that Cornus 🤩
Oh dear, how could anyone not like your beautiful paving? Keep up the good work, and for God’s sake, don’t quit your day job, becauce you are really good at it.
Path will look Great once planted up 👍
Pretty much all of the comments in the Mail were sticking up for you, and saying they liked it. So finally Daily Mail readers and I agree on something. You are uniting the nation with your great design Joe.
C’mon Joe, I just returned to Florida after a week in the UK and I didn’t see a spot of rain. The Cotswolds and Devon were absolutely beautiful. Anyway, it must have been a slow news day at the DM. The garden is coming along nicely and the path is starting to grow on me. I think my earlier comment was a bit more pleasant than some others.
I love the path it is a work of art on its own merit, mixing modern and traditional. Just beautiful 🥰 love it
Your crazy path.......amazing....... it would be so easy to copy and lay, but I could never make something so amazing as long as my backside faced the ground. That is why you have a cupboard full of Chelsea golds and my garden looks like "Janet and John does gardening.
I absolutely love the path ,and the elliptical seating area Joe! ❤🎉🌹
Looks fantastic Joe...I wish I had all that free stone. I've been hunting down stone from people getting rid of them all up and down my neck of the woods and hauling it in a little vehicle.
Love the updates . Its fun to see the progress Joe. More dogwoods- yes!
IT WILL BE GREAT.
Nonsense newspapers. That path looks just great
Love following the progress of your “crazy paving” and the garden generally! I just returned home to Denmark from a wonderful holiday in Bollington, and there was a tree like yours with the beautiful white bracts. Cornus hongkongensis, Hongkong Dogwood. I NEED this tree, hope it will thrive in my danish garden.
They’re tough, need moisture at the roots tho
My hubbys a garden designer and he's loving your path as am I, we recently picked up a big load of blue slate crazy paving for free from some chap who'd lifted it from his 80s patio where, from photos of it in situ, it looked like it had seen better days, looking forward to giving it a new lease of life in our garden! That Cornus is glorious, the first time I saw one was in a garden in a pretty village near to where we live, I sent hubby, mortified, up the garden path to knock on the door to ask if we could take a cutting, 2 years on our cheekiness is paying off and the cutting is now a lovely big potted plant, nearly ready to plant out :) Keep the updates coming Joe😃
Love your controversial path! The garden is already looking lovely - so great that you are sharing your progress with us.
Hi Joe, 1970s crazy paving was usually dark grey broken up pavement slabs. Yours is lovely cream and buff stones. Love it. 😊
😂😂😂😂 so funny they have nothing better to report on.
I like it.
Criticism always stings but in this case it is unwarranted.
I love your paths through the fields. I have borders on my slope, and I use the native plants, weeds or not, either for shade as a cooling effect (it is a south facing slope and very hot) or as a green mulch that feeds the plants that I choose to be there.
No dismay here joe. Do what the hell you want!!
'It's my garden and I'll do what I like with it" Boom. Gotta love the keyboard warriors :) For what it's worth I think it looks fab and I love watching all the updates, not least as my own garden is very much a 'work in progress' !! Keep up the good work Joe, and stay your awesome self.
Love it joe 😊😅
Love the stones. Wish I had such stones one site. It’s going to be so much fun for you to plant around it. Looking forward to seeing it complete.
As another 70s/80s kid l dont see anything wrong with the path. Its quite 'arty' if anything. Can't wait to see it pointed and planted.
Most amusing! People are funny. Enjoying seeing everything come together.
I'm amazed it's caused an issue. I think it looks great and blends in nicely with the pavers giving it a splash of originality. I'd assume over time it'll soften as self seeders fill a few of the gaps, or you help them along there way to give it a naturalised rustic feel.....it is a country garden after all.
Referring back to the wall fantastic, had a 70 year old retired farmer pop round to sort a section of our fallen dry stone wall. Took him an afternoon id gave took a week and it'd look sh*t. Anyway it's now a backdrop for a little sleeper bench ideal for a morning coffee set into the border under the giant sycamore in next doors garden.
Enjoy the videos on the Channel and Instagram. Look forward to each one and the progress your making
Cheers
path looks great mate
Its lovely
Looks good to me unique and I very much like that it's reclaimed job well done.
😂😂 love the path!
I love the crazy paving. It's gorgeous!
Actually, Joe It is your garden, your vision and I look forward to watching this old garden coming back to life under your expert hand
I love ,love ,love the paving.I think its creative genius. I am looking forward to seeing it finished.
What a gorgeous project, I love watching the progress. By the way I am a crazy paving fan, perfectly planned trip.🤭👍
Beautiful cornus - perfect small trees - plenty of them here in Tokyo in spring. Hard-landscaping coming on well too. Of course it’s a bit stark before the grouting, planting etc: vision and imagination folks, please. Btw, I wouldn’t even flinch for any buzzing in the UK - not when one gets used to the Giant Japanese Hornets....that sound like a hovercraft, and rise over the hedges like an Iroquois chopper.
You have a great vision. I am amazed every time I see your videos.
Your path looks so creative! I can't wait to see the planting you'll be putting in to compliment it! Keep those creative juices flowing! Have fun gardening! That's what it's all about, right?
We have been having the opposite here in the mid Atlantic (zone zone 7/8 of the US. Went straight into summer weather. Temps in the upper 80s F with little rain 😅.
Loving it and can't wait to see how it changes once you start planting....Also ❤ your wild orchids, they look amazing.
It is good for the sense of balance to regularly walk on uneven ground!
Love your reclaimed (not crazy)paving.
I think it looks fabulous already, cant wait 2 see next months progress. ❤x
Loving the designs including the path ❤
Don’t understand why it could controversial? I think it is fantastic! I wish I had a path like that!
You keep on having fun. Your garden is a beautiful work in progress. Obviously, the "news people " don't get it. I appreciate you sharing it with us : )
Never judge a project until it's finished. I think the paths/ seating areas will look superb when softened with planting etc.
My university lecturer said that orchids are rare nationally but common locally (ie where the conditions are right they thrive). I guess you need to get the mowing right but you’ll not have a problem with them thriving. Exciting to see the latest changes… loving the new hard landscaping 😊
Thought that was a very good video. So interesting to see a garden designer bringing a design to life. And all the different camera shots to illustrate what you were talking about made it clear. Beautiful orchids. Cornus Miss Satomi is lovely, if you don't know her. Don't give up your day job indeed - keep it up up for all our viewing pleasure. Daily Mail providing the tragic comedy as ever.
Looks wonderful Joe. Thank you for the update and a good laugh 😊
Send Craig here please! I warn him my rocks are bush rocks though. Rather more difficult to knit together. It’s all shaping up really well & those orchids are a treasure.
Love your dry season of humour.
Oh God! Cracking me up by the end. Blow raspberries at the naysayers. 😂 Or strawberries 🍓
You crack me up Joe.....just like your paving🤣but seriously, have people nothing better to do! I personally think it's stunning,I love the transition between the natural stone&brick,in fact, I'm stealing your idea(on a smaller scale), so bring on the glitter ball &flares!! Loving the updates, there's been some serious amount of work done at chéz Swift👏🏼
You're crazy if the Daily Mail is your news source 🍻
It’s fantastic! Who cares if some twits don’t like it ? Jealousy brings the meanies in folks.
Fab!
Love all the paving. Great start.
Lovely video love the progress.. First a garden is a personal creativity and art and craftsmanship.. Love the stone work the walkway and walls its beautiful..Its a work in progress..When you done and the planting is in its going to be brilliant. You have a nice Property so much potential and your grass meadow is looking good...In my garden I use what ever is on site and around me and my garden is coming into maturity its gorgeous..When you start planting around the walkway its going to come together nicely.. Thanks 👍
Love it all ❤
The idiots complaining winding you up are mad I’d love to have a garden like this.👌👌👌👌🫡
Hello Joe your hard work is paying off I love your path why don’t these moaners give u a chance to complete the job it’s Maxine 83Yrs young still gardening and loving how much you look like your lovely father makes me smile love this garden Joe thanku for showing us warts and all ❤
Thanks Maxine!
Don’t listen to any of the negative. This is your space. Do what you want. You are the “client” and the client is always right. 😉
Beautiful. Also, you’re hilarious.
Trust me, you'll be copied at Chelsea flower show next year. I love the path its fab
Evening Joe 👋 those orchids are looking beautiful. It's all coming together now and it's like you say, crazy paving has been around for donkeys years. Reminds me of those beautifully manicured front gardens of the 50/60s. By the way that new wall will be crying out for Erigeron karvinskianus....Yas? 💚👌
Looks great! The pathway aesthetic isn't my particular cup of tea, but I'm very excited to see it transformed with overlapping plants in a year's time! Love the mowing experiments in the meadow.
What do newspapers know about garden designn? Clearly not much! Your work is looking awesome! Look forward to each new video.
Good for you Joe it’s looking fab and the amazing Craig… gawd such stupid negative comments and news x
Yay a new episode! Was really looking forward my next fix! Didn’t fail to deliver. I would personally prefer to listen to an expert talk about garden design than amateurs without vision.
Joe, loving the channel. Never mind the nonsense. As my daughter tells me YOU DO YOU MUM....😂😂😂
Its your garden and you do what you love ,keep your videos coming thanks
I didn't like the paving at first, but it grew on me. The lads have done a wonderful job getting the stone to match up on the crazy part. Now I love it, gonna be great when it's finished, hope I'm still around to see it.
Joe and so you should be very pleased with the hard landscaping. It’s not my style choice but it is your garden and furthermore it is all reclaimed so what is not to like? With your skills and knowledge to plant it up to soften the hard edges the alleged trip hazards 😂 will be even harder to spot 😂😂😂
Well, I’m not ‘dismayed’ Joe..I love it ❤
It never ceases to amaze me, the rudeness of people! It’s your garden, and it’s no one’s business what you do with it! People should stop being so rude and offering opinion that’s not been asked for!
Some "judge" to see if they'd like a similar idea in that space or their garden, others go straight for judging people.. Now judging a path (as we all do, including designers) doesn't sound so bad, ey? Plus we didn't suck up.. It just isn't our taste is all. Stay giggling and keep gardening. Love you living your dream, Joe! Path and all..
Thanks- but if I put it out on TH-cam I guess I’m fair game!
I love your paving!! Haters gonna hate but take no notice as you say it’s your garden do what you want ❤❤❤❤
It's your garden, do what you like, who would want to be judged by the court of public opinion. I have every faith it will be beyond stunning and if not sublime. Keep the faith.
The "media" is insane the world over. Nothing cures tripping or nausea as fast a a glass of cold prosecco. Enjoy your garden!
