- I've been to visit James Alexander Sinclair - he’s a bit posh but great friend and fine garden designer. He moved to his garden nine or ten years ago, so it's an opportunity for me to get ideas and see where I could be in a few years' time. James is a plant addict, his garden is full of unusual and really interesting specimens, most of which he can remember the names of. We go on a leisurely tour of his garden while James explains his method, rationale and love of plants. It's a beautiful garden, full of wildlife and packed with interesting ideas. I hope you enjoy this tour as much as I did!
Very entertaining video. Thanks to both of you. What a lovely garden! We have newts too.
Haha what a laugh, and learned a few things too. This is what gardening is all about.
Hello from Nova Scotia,Canada. Loved the show Joe. You and James are very funny together. Really enjoyed the garden. ❤
An absolute joy to watch this episode Joe. The bromance vibe is a 10 and the video just flows and flows with humor delight! I appreciated this.
You two are as mad as a box of frogs....... very entertaining. Only ever seen the serious side of James but he has a typically English self deprecating sense of humour so so funny. Love it. I bet the pair of you have some very funny behind the scenes stories to tell, you could do a video of you sat in a pub with a pint, though James would probably have a G-T, telling us stories, mentioning no names, with that schoolboy naughtiness you both share 😂😂😂😂
Great video👍
That was a fantastic walk through James’ stunning garden. You two should have your own TV show 😊
What a brilliant video! I’d love to see you both exploring other people’s gardens and offering your insights ❤
Talk about two go mad in a garden! Great info, great fun, hey Joe hope you've got a few more garden and gardener visits lined up.
Love the South Carolina mention! Y’all are so fun to watch together. James’ garden is lovely. ❤😊

What a brilliant garden, just full of life. Thank you.
Class, absolutely loved that thanks Joe 👍
What a joyful tour! Seems from the comments that you’re quite a hit here in the U.S. This garden lover in North Carolina certainly enjoys your channel. Thank you for sharing such a fun and informative visit.
Lovely video, entertaining as well as packed with interesting information. You two should definitely do more of these. :)
Fabulous witty badinage gentlemen and a beautiful garden to boot! Please visit James Alexander's garden again soon. Some very interesting plants 💚
Oh, WAY better than Gardener's World! I'd rather watch this any day, the cheeky informality of it and your personalities together is such a treat! What a glorious garden. I had never heard of this fellow before but I'm in love! You could make another channel where you both present gardeny stuffs together! Oh how I would love that!
He is a RHS judge of smany years standing and a well known designer but what a down to earth cheeky chappie at the same time .
Every spring the last few years, we find frog and toad eggs around our gardens in odd places. Kids swimming pool (not chlorinated), a watering can, bird bath, and puddles formed in tarps during construction. Each time the kids and I rescue the eggs, and sometimes already hatched tadpoles, and place them in buckets of rain water. We change their water every few days, by carefully scooping them up and placing in fresh rain buckets. We also place a couple of fresh, large swiss chard leaves in each bucket (they love nibbling on it and enjoy the shade they provide), and feed them aquatic frog and tadpole food from the pet store. Then as they mature and develop legs, we place a branch in the buckets for them to climb on and out. It’s so much fun watching them grow. I also place the buckets in various garden beds, where they can be hidden behind plants, and where I need some “help” from the future mature frogs. We’re currently putting in a pond and hope to have frogs and toad enjoying it next year, but if there are any problems, we’ll go back to our bucket method. Hope this helps.
This was so much fun. Thank you.
Absolutely brilliant 😂 what a treat to find this after gardening this evening. You two are such a joy to watch, having such fun.
Thanks Joe for such an Enjoyable video Lotta fun 👍.The Garden is beautiful... Gardens are the expressions of ourselves.. God Bless 🕊️
Really enjoyed watching this lovely garden and your jolly banter! Really cheered me up. 💜
Thank you Joe for a light, silly garden tour with James. Hard to believe all that garden is in just a half acre! You two pals show how great friendships thrive. Cheers from drought stricken central Virginia. XX
Brilliant! 😂
Great stuff! Can't wait to see the "little house" you're designing
Such an interesting programme good to hear James and the wonderful sanctuary he has created , what a lovely man
That was good fun and interesting. Now going to track down a Chinese oak. Thanks Joe.

I am a plant lover myself so this was really a garden for my taste.
Absolutely loved this! So interesting, informative, inspiring and funny! Xx
Another American viewer here - from New York State (not city!). I pronounce it root, not rowt! Not all of us mispronounce words! 😂 Loved this entertaining garden tour. Thanks so much!
I approve of James’s composting. I too have three bays & combined two of mine into one. So I’m currently reaping the reward for decay. I’ve reloaded my wheelbarrow for the 15th time ready for tomorrow & there’s still heaps left.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a joyous double act! Lovely garden too.
❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
this was fun. you made me smile. your thankful garden lover Kristin from germany
Thanks for the tour of your friend's garden. Lovely. And what's not to love when someone is "a bit posh"....one of my favorite characters ever is the posh mom on The Catherine Tate show--"I'm going to be honest with you (talking to her children)....Mommy almost ran out of extra-virgin olive oil...."
An enjoyable tour of James garden. Looked like the two of you were having alot of fun. From a garden lover ❤
Brilliant, bit like a comedy due, james certainly made for TV
Great session., loved it. I love your show always. I'm watching from New Zealand. Janice
Michigan here Joe! What a fun tour of a very pretty garden.🥰
Thank you gents, I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Fabulous interaction between you two friends, thoroughly enjoyed this. Thankyou.
Never realised Jimmy was soo funny
This is a total delight! You two are the most brilliant show-offs and it’s lovely to see your friendship 😊 Loads of great info shared too - thank you both ❤
Lovely garden. There are several types of persimmon. Some are more astringent than others. But like apples, good ones are lovely, bad ones are hard or pappy. Tend to sucker a lot. Green tree frogs love them here in Japan with their big shiny leaves. Stunning when the leaves fall and the tiny arboreal pumpkins dot the branches.
Thank you for sharing. I love a garden visit, fab garden showed what you can do but not so perfect as to intimidate. A bit of information and a few giggles. One of the best, entertaining😁 garden tours I have had the pleasure to watch, have you thought about a season?
What a lively humorous double act. Please do more like this . Shame that so few have "liked" to help spread the knowledge.
Loved this soooo much
I wonder if Monty is watching this as well. 🐸🦎🌳
" It's not a big garden, it's quite small "! Oh James, you really don't know Joes audience! What a great video guys, thanks so much
👏
Great video, love the banter between you both
One of the very best gardening programs I have seen - excellent
Dzieki. Bardzo sympatyczne i pocieszajace. Pozdrawiam Beata
What fun!😊
We also have lot's of news that eT our tadpoles so we rescue the tadpoles putting them in a separate container until they hatch and grow to be reasonably large enough to have a chance against the newts then they go back😊
Beautiful and very majestic garden
False ashoka
Loved this tour 😊 thanks for taking the time to walk us through Joe and James. Was that a golden rain tree? And what was the name of the bamboo James got from great dixter? I’d love a garden that size one day.
How fabulous, loved the surprise 💚
The Joe&James Gnome Show is born..... Thanks for sharing your real garden, bindweed and washing.... brilliant❤
That flew by! Thanks for the tour of the beautiful garden. Hilarious, too.

Love the video very much!!! lovely garden and lovely guys!!!😁😁😁
Beautiful garden and you two together are comedy gold ❤️
Lovely garden, really enjoyed looking around, great video.
I loved that Joe and thanks Alex ❤
That bamboo at 7:00 is magnificent and so tightly clumping. The only bamboo I can think of that is as compact at the base as that is fargesia angustissima, but I wonder what it actually is because whatever 'good money' was paid, it was clearly a steal
Ha, ha! Loved the David Bellamy appearance. Good belly laugh.
I think your Oak is Quercus Myrsinifolia
This really was fun, thank you!
Great video having a nosey round JS garden. 👍
Wonderful garden tour!
40 minutes! Better put the kettle on! 💞💞🙌
Wonderfully entertaining and informative. Hope you both got down off that roof without mishap.
The pond is fabulous because the wildlife are private, ie undisturbed
1oo per cent entertaining 😂❤
No mow May is a waste of time. All the good things that happen such as the insects laying eggs ets, is destroyed in June. You may as well not bother. The best thing you can do is have a designated area to leave if possible. You can make it look tidy by simply having a neat path through it.
Speaking of quercus and prunus....have any list been made of native trees/shrubs with the highest insect values? Dr. Tallamy in the US/Can is among the leaders in assessing keystone values.
Great video you made me smile
You 2 are hilarious!
Ask James where he bought his teeth from, they are magnificent 😁😁Best garden video I've ever seen. I'd love to spend an hour or 2 with him, he's as mad as a basket of frogs, you could come along too Joe. Thanks you 2 daft buggers.
He said Harrods
love it ❤❤❤
Live with the Newts and get some ducks (Indian runners or Welsh Harlequins) , look ornamental, lay your breakfast egg and will help control your slugs but not destroy your garden.
6mins in, A talking bush ha ha 😂
